    • @autogefuehl

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex or Desertex or Miriam). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) %. So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette, even in ventilated options.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/yG3z7m6UqNg/w-d-xo.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

Nice looking vehicles but what have they done with their brand logo and the name? From a few metres away, it looks like the Audi rings have fallen off, and on closer inspection you have a flat 2D thin grey line denoting the rings. As for the e-tron name on the side, black gloss text on a black gloss background! It's almost as if they don't want to be associated with the vehicle, and is something you'd see in TV programmes where they cover the brand logo.

I've got those camera mirrors and absolutely don't like them. Not only are there quality issues (I've had to to have them replaced 3 times because of condensation, which means you can't see anything anymore, carwash tears pieces off the mirror), but they're just not as good as regular mirrors. Less real estate to show you what's going on, after 3 years the looking a little more down position is still awkward and at nights it's more difficult to soo anything than regular mirrors.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. They can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even from plant-based materials (like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum). Or the Polestar 3 e.g. is using pine oil. And even if you still create a leatherette seat the classic way with petroleum base without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is very little in comparison to how much oil is used for other car parts or how much oil is burned for fuel or heating. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en). So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
      Another interesting article is here:

That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the priority use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down or even murdered on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?

Original e-tron is such a nice car! This update seems to fix many of the drawbacks.
Looks ok (needs dark/black "grille" though), unlike it's german rivals.
Looking forward to comparisions to the Polestar 3 and the EX90 (very carefully selected reveal date by Audi btw...)

They changed the name and added a light bar to the front. Interior looks the exact same. I would call this a facelift at best. Expected a big change after 5 years but aside from the battery and better economy you are esentially buying the same car as 5 years ago.

Ok, Audi has shown the new Q8 e-tron, or should we just say the updated e-tron, seriously, why not call it the Q6 e-tron (yes, I know there's a 3-row Q6 for Chinese market and an upcoming Q6 e-tron that looks about the size of a Q5)

I think Audi have really shot themselves in the foot with their EV naming structure.
While Mercedes and BMW have a a simple prefix to attach to all their previous names (EQ/i respectively), Audi are stuck with this awkward E-tron word.
Having an E-tron and E-tron GT implies they are very similar cars, when they couldn't be more different. Then they have the Q4 which is only an E-tron. And now they're sticking it onto their regular ICE names?

Best review of Audi Q8 e-tron. I just wished they changed to a single screen. I passed on the original e-tron as I did not like the split screens. I liked seeing all wheels available and agree the black wheels are the ones to get. No one else has shown the lighting carpet and the blinking light for someone on the road. Thank you for your review. Well done.

I like recycled materials in cars. But considering 5-10% of cowhide is already thrown into landfill it also makes sense to use whatever waster materials are available rather than throw it away.
