+Chronosaurus particularly why prime was actually fucking good even though they did the first person shooter with it. or why super metroid is definitivly the best with fusion being just as good, if not a little annoying with the whole ai was based of off her commander from which is now other m type story.
@@Vivid_Sky23 you would think he could do this at the point he's at. Maybe hes just so caught up in GG that he doesnt think about his old work anymore.
@@Vivid_Sky23 I never thought of this...he could even have fully animated scenes rather than the partial stuff he does in sequelitis! Remember when he used to do that?!
Guys, at no point did he say the game is bad. He said the exact opposite. Like, the exact opposite. 'Please don't think this is a bad game or a bad sequel.' He's criticizing a single aspect. Even the description says he likes it. He's just sayin'. Just sayin'. I dunno why people hop on every excuse given to be mad.
***** Okay, I'll give you that. But be honest, Arin wasn't talking about desperation, he was talking about use of items as a standard of gameplay. I used all the OTHER major items in most of these titles. Arin can say what he wants about their redundancy, but you can't whip in two directions at once; you CAN throw an item, turn around and deal with the other threat. =3
TymeTwyster Last the thing is: you can use the items, but you don't really have to, the game isn't forcing you into using them... or what he's saying, why use item, when you can just _whippikah_ - like, you know, you watched the video... The items are there (for the consistency, I guess - means they were in the previous games, so why throw them away in this one), but they are not important anymore... Sure, if you're good (throw knife one way whip the other way, as you said). So, the sumary is... the items don't even need to be in this game, but they're still there, for some reason or another... I don't know where I'm going with this, it's getting late and I'm little hazy at this point... but don't take it like I'm trying to make excuses for Arin's opinion or whatever... I'm just sayin' _cheers_
youtube has fundamentally changed for the worse, in that content like this takes time and effort and will simply get buried under shitty reaction videos and a mountain of other lets play channels. it's for the best when it comes to how he's moved on.
@@alleras46 i mean moreso the animation present; all the popular story time animators (odd1sout, jaiden) have full teams dedicated to getting videos out, and they still take months. im sure arin could have such a team to help him, but itd greatly slow down his other projects (game grumps, 10mph, touring, hell even smaller stuff like shuffle master)
The sub-weapons weren't the only things not changed to reflect the new game engine; the enemies from 1 & 3 that were brought back also received no update and therefore got REALLY easy to dispatch.
If you watched the video properly you'd have learned that the video addressed MECHANICS that messed up the game... ...reusing enemies doesn't cause a game to break or take away from the re-playability like making other items worthless and leaving the player with all the tools he'll need from level 1 does. Imagine if all you need in Link To The Past was Link's sword to reach Ganon and not having to go through the trouble of getting the 3 pendents to unlock Ganon's chamber...
darkwiz666 Except that's not quite true. The game is about how they changed several base mechanics in a favorable way, but none of the other mechanics or aspects of the game changed with it. This can include the enemies. In fact, he spends a lot of time talking specifically about enemies and how their interaction with subweapons and the whip was pretty much equal. The idea that they could have changed enemies so that the whip wasn't as effective against them could have also fixed problems he addressed.
darkwiz666 That is not the same at all. The pendants weren't items you could use in the game like the items you got in Castlevania. They are more like achievements representing that you have went through a level and killed a boss. Taking the pendants out of LttP compared to Castlevania would be more like taking away three entire levels with bosses (just so you could fight a certain later boss faster? What the fu...) A more correct example would be if LttP had your sword compensate for all the jobs of those usable special items (bow, the magical rods, boomerang, inter-dimensional mirror etc.) yet still had those items in the game ... HOLY F**K THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.
Not just the old enemies, even the new ones fared poorly. Mostly thanks to the eight directional whipping. In fact I recently played through the game without whipping up, down or diagonal at all except where absolutely necessary to proceed in the game (which was seriously only like two spots late in the game). It REALLY felt like the stages had originally been designed to be played like that, not with the omni-whip. It even got pretty challenging near the end. Not as hard as 1 or 3, but no longer felt like Super Kirby-vania IV. I'm convinced the multi-directional whipping was added in to the game near the end of it's development.
+TheSilentStorm Yeah, and he mostly gets good feed back on all of his critiques. It's probably from his reputation though. I criticized Fallout 3 and almost got lynched.
+TheSilentStorm Honestly I just think it's his hipster california lifestyle that drives him to feel the need to criticize universally loved things. He puts a lot of effort into these and I agree with a lot of it but it kind of just seems like he's doing it just for the sake of shitting on something, that in his bias opinion, isn't worth all the praise that it gets.
Shmandalf I get that vibe from him too. A lot of people just hate on loved things to either get attention, or just because they feel compelled to be different.
asddsdsssd I mean don't get me wrong I think he's a pretty cool guy, but I'm not sure he's doing sequelitis just to be a game critic. He critiques games from his own bias while masquerading under the illusion of objectivity.
I'd love to see him make a Symphony of the Night sequelitis, as well as that fabled Zelda sequelitis he's mentioned before. Seriously, even if he just made that Zelda sequelitis and nothing else, I'd be satisfied.
96NekoChan people begged for a new sequelitis. now they got their sequelities. poof. they regret that arin shows the mess inside that overrated game.it isnt bad but it had flaws.
+The Helmaroc King i would agree but metroid did the one thing developers of the 3d transition were afraid of. it changed the way you played to fit its new world. its still a metroid, but its different, and that was brilliant.
***** This specific Sequelitis video is one of the good ones, the ones where Arin actually has good points and is... well... right. The problem is his behavior towards games he sucks at, particularly in Game Grumps. If he sucks at a game, he calls it absolute garbage. And as of very recently in the Game Grumps OOT Playthrough, He is again hating on the game. (reference: Fire and Water temple episodes.) Why? because he clearly sucks at OOT. I'm not here to say that's the ONLY reason however, but it is more than likely the governing factor behind his "opinions". I have no faith he would give Metroid Prime justice against the side scroller Metroids.
That wouldn't be favorable for Metroid Prime. It's a far less fluid game than Super Metroid and it's also less intuitively designed. It's by no means a less than stellar game, but compared to Super Metroid it's rather slow and the controls are often quite awkward. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Super Metroid is the better game. I just don't think there'd be much that Arin could say that isn't immediately obvious after playing both. Metroid vs Super Metroid however would be a far more interesting sequelitis because the two games are essentially the same concept excecuted a decade apart, with hugely different levels of quality. Both are set on the same planet, feature the same basic controls, and share many enemy types. I think this comparison is far more fair to both games and also far more interesting to analyse. It's amazing how many things Metroid botches that Super Metroid perfects. Neither game is bad but one is vastly better and for a myriad of reasons that aren't immediately obvious. Just my thoughts.
While I agree that a sequel shouldn't be weighted down by traditions set in the previous games, you of all people should know how batshit insane people get and how many temper tantrums they throw when you change or critique something they enjoyed.
ChickenPika Dude! I was just about to say that, but on the other hand if they did take it out and everyone went insane, 20 years later they would appreciate the change
ChickenPika The way i understand, he is saying it should be a game from a completely new franchise, like RE4 should have been, but they chose to keep the name to enhance sales.
+ChickenPika True that. If they were to make a zelda w/o a hookshot for exemple the kiddies would lose their shit, yet the the other hand they complain that zelda games are always the same, you just cant win.
+ChickenPika True that. If they were to make a zelda w/o a hookshot for exemple the kiddies would lose their shit, yet the the other hand they complain that zelda games are always the same, you just cant win.
That "SKELETON SNAKE DRAGON HEADS FROM THE WALL" bit is just a perfect example the pure genius and feel of Sequelitis. He's SO incredible at making entertaining commentary video content, and his creative style is so aesthetic to watch and listen to that it's impossible not to want more. Thank you for making this kind of content, Arin. If you ever read this, I hope you know people seriously do realize how just incredibly good at making videos you are, and you bring something so unique to the world of animation, quality, humor, and most of all creativity that one can rarely find anywhere else. I don't mean to offer you any external validity, if something like that has turned into a crutch-like destruction mechanism for you like it has for other content creators, but being on the receiving end of your content is such an incredibly fun roller-coaster to be on, and I hope enough people have communicated that to you that you've gotten the message. I wish you could experience it from everyone else' perspective at least once. And I hope you have had as much fun creating this stuff as people are having from watching it. I can't imagine someone more deserving of it. I wish you all the continued success this universe has to offer.
8 directional movement was a big deal as a tech demo thing in early SNES. From seeing that one demo reel for the beta Super Castlevania, I'm certain that the diagonal whipping was added very late
God. Nobody seems to get the point of this video. He isn't complaining about the whip controls. In a way, he is actually complimenting them. He was disappointed that the developers didn't utilize the whip controls to add more interesting challenges and mechanics. Instead they just kept the items even though they were renders useless by the more accessible whip controls. I agree. It's a good game but they needed to change the level design and game mechanics to accommodate the different whip controls. As Arin said in his Zelda sequelitis, "If the formula doesn't work, you change the formula."
+Sachiel Otaku English is a bizarre language. Some words are pronounced differently but are spelled the same. Like though and rough. Its just how it works.
I remember him saying that it took him so long to make these because he animated them, I wouldn't mind if it was just a voice over from him over gameplay without the animations if that made them come out earlier. I also wouldn't mind if he bothered to actually make more of these (and finally finish MGA 3).
Castlevania 4's weapons are useful. Just not in the first few levels. They wanted to make the game a little easier in the beginning for newbies. But go on to the next few levels and you'll see. Just look at the Game Grumps episode of this game. Danny and Arin got stuck and if they used everything they had they could have made it past enemies easier.
till this day I will never understand why Arin sidelined Castlevania 3, it was such a good game with a lot of replay value, great ost, a fine level of difficulty and the other 3 playable characters brought such a fresh feeling to the gameplay.
Man, coming back to this gem of a series and hearing Arin’s analysis of these games is so cool. But, when I look in the comment section and read all the endless droves of comments from just… THE most butt hurt people. Even if it isn’t the main reason, I can’t blame Arin for not making any more. Shame on all of ya.
I would love to see a sequelitis on Dark souls and Bloodborne. Because even though they have similar objectives, they both have two entirely different styles, strategies, and ways to play them. I would just like to see your opinions on them. And before anyone leaves a comment in a frustrated tone like "Why would he even do that, what's the point?", I'm just letting you guys know ahead of time, that I don't care.
This was basically the only Castlevania game that lets you do that (aside from Harmony of Despair which came out years later). WIth the way he puts it, maybe that's why they went back to letting you just whip in 2 directions? That or it was just easy to program the player that way. But there's games like X68000 and Bloodlines that still lets you whip diagonally. Then again X68000 you can only do it while jumping (and only downwards) and Bloodlines the only directions is diagonally left or right.
Another thing he covered, which I feel is true, is the reach. Bloodlines goes back to one's character being a somewhat small blip, so the additional weapons will always make up some difference one way or the other... but they were a bit less well-implemented than prior entries. Like the game under scrutiny here, it wasn't bad at all, it merely had a few missteps in design; in Bloodlines' case, I actually think it was trying to be a little too different... like Simon's Quest, but to a far lesser degree.
I dunno about really. Bioshock Infinite wasn't really trying to be the same as the other two games. It WAS trying to be different, and added things you could do acordingly! Like using the hook to get around and position yourself in battle and adding tears to open, to give yourself an advantage! If you really wanna say the same thing about a Bioshock game, say it about the second game..
Hate to show up to a four year old comment and reply, but Bioshock Infinite only carries the Bioshock title to indicate it's in the same multiverse as the original. Comparing Bioshock to Infinite is like comparing Link to the Past and Hyrule Warriors: they both have similar structure and contribute to the same multiverse, but they really have nothing in common, even down to the genre.
Jimmy William Rondo of Blood (getting to play the real version via Castlevania Dracula Chronicles on the PSP) was perhaps a better evolution of the original Castlevania. Except for Maria. I really don't know what to think of her addition. I really love the heck out of Castlevania 4, as it was the first of them I beat legitimately without cheats or help. (And the replays do get tougher, adding more enemies and having more damage get taken off.) On the other hand I have still not beaten Castlevania 3 without save-states. (Leaving one before the Dracula battle, not between forms.) I have not played a Castlevania game yet which I utterly despised, or went "this is terrible", except for Simon's Quest . . . where my words were more "this needed to be left to cook a little longer, because it's so half-baked". I even really enjoyed Lament of Innocence. Of course I have about seven I've not played: Castlevania 64 (N64), Circle of the Moon (GBA), Harmony of Dissonance (GBA), Castlevania: Belmont's Revenge (GB), Castlevania Legends (GB), Order of Ecclesia (DS), and Harmony of Despair.

01:50 - The whip is *INTENDED* to be the strongest weapon. It *IS* _the main weapon_ of the Belmont Family, the legendary whip Vampire Killer. It's not by chance that the other weapons are called _sub-weapons._ So yeah, you can finish the game without using any sub-weapons at all because the Vampire Killer is awesome. That said, it does *NOT* mean that the sub-weapons are useless, as some say. It's just that _some_ sub-weapons are better than others, like the Boomerang/Cross. And with the exception of the Clock (which can freeze time, making it easier to deal with certain enemies who dance around the screen), all the sub-weapons can be powered-up with the items "II" (called "Double Shot") and "III" ("Triple Shot"), making them much more powerful. The Boomerang boosted with the "III" item is awesome against bosses. You can throw 3 Boomerangs, where which one can hit twice while you're whipping the boss.
Dear Arin thank you for making sequilitis this series makes me happy and makes me think about things I never would have so keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for this series
As much as I hate to admit it, Arin is right. After playing the NES trilogy, and then playing Super, it felt just a tad more...repetitive compared to the originals. The motions of swinging your whip over and over are going to wear on you because there's no reason not to use it over the items, and stopping to whip the candles feels that much more unnecessary and boring. It overall feels slower-paced and less intense compared to the originals because of this. At the same time though, it makes up for everything with the AWESOME controls and amazing atmosphere. Every room has its own uniqueness to it, and it constantly feels like you're on an epic quest. And god, there's just so much polish. That moment after you defeat Death and the creepy intro music plays, and the torches light up as you walk literally made me go "oh shit" my first time playing. Similarly when you get Dracula to a quarter of his health and Simon's Theme starts playing it made me go "FUCK YEAH!"
It's NOT at all "Slower paced" AT ALL, it's FAST-PACED because of how much easier things are, and stopping to whip the candles is FAR from "bOrIng" at all.
@@Clangokkuner because it all depends on HOW it’s done and HOW the flow of getting items are portrayed in game if you can get them all seamlessly ingame as it FAR from “bOrInG rEPEITIVE gaRbaGe” in THIS context when the flow isn’t broken down from when you have to get all the items pretty easily which the game is all about!
Belmont Ziimon The conversation would likely be about the minor differences that change each game. It's a little too simplistic to just pare it down to that. Breeding alone could provide a whole episode of Sequelitis.
Belmont Ziimon for a casual player yeah there are minor differences but if you get into battling and the competitive side there can be HUGEEEEEE diffrences.
SC4 Changed everything? I could say the same thing about SotN and the other Metroidvanias. That game changed everything about Castlevania, and not in a way that worked for all fans. SotN took everything about adventuring through a terrifying castle, and relying on your, skills, limited weapons and brain, and replaced it with going over-powered conqueror of the castle with a huge arsenal of weapons. That game is a far bigger criminal if you ask me.
TheShepherd82 True. But SotN was the game that brought all the billions of weapons and magic spells into the series, plus they went back to linear with C3 because it didn't pay off very well. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate SotN or exploration in Castlevania. I just think it took away some things I loved in the series.
that's correct, just wanted to make that clear.but who cares mr assholraptor here knows better in anyway ;-) his first castlevania 1+2 review was "harder" than this one.
TheShepherd82 Yeah. 3:35, I believe he is displeased because the game isn't as painfully difficult as the other games. Which isn't something that determine a game's quality.
TheShepherd82 I get you don't like it but what right do you have to aggravate all his fans by posting slander on his page and besides his opinion is valid and he gave reasons, if you truly have that much of a problem with it please do one yourself and prove his is utter trash until then don't go spouting off about how "everybody else" does better reviews and try to promote them on someone else's video, I'm not saying youtube is family friendly but still maintain a little respect for someone who took time out of his life to put his opinion up and if you are gonna insult his stuff keep it to one post and stop trying to get your friends (or your idol/role models) channel more views, adding a name was unnecessary and makes you look like a trolling faker, something the internet doesn't need more off, thank you.
this is my largest problem with bioshock infinite, the fact it was a bioshock made it have things like "big daddies" in the form of the patriots and the "plasmisds" in the form of vigors, there could have been more potential if the team was given the freedom to go nuts with ideas
well quantifying potential is hard, but having to abide by specific characteristics does lessen the creative freedom of the studio and the minds that are developing the game, simply to chase the fame and fortune of a past greatness
Merick Its the same place as rapture but a different universe..constants and variables man..the big daddies and plasmids were constants and the vigor was the variable. I have no problems with infinit. I appreatiated it not as a sequal prequal or what ever it is but the fact its a game that I enjoyed playing. I dont waist my time looking at faults I just enjoy the game for what it is..something to play.
i dont look at it as "something to play" its a peace of art, one to be admired but one with flaws like anything else, i like understanding why i experience something in a game rather than just bumbling through it as a community if we idly let something stagnate simple because its just "something to play" than that medium wont grow with us to enhance our experiences and interactions, both in game and around the community, just look at DarkSouls as a small example
The sub weapons in this game are mainly for the bosses, which can be defeated much faster and easier with the right one, especially if coupled with a III-tablet.
I miss the days when you used to make this kind of original content. I remember when I got to meet you it was awesome. 2020 and I think I’ve lost all hope.
This is my favorite Castlevania game because of its atmosphere and presentation, along with its near-perfect controls. While I'll agree that the secondary weapons probably should have been thought out a bit more (but not pointless; I like the throwing knife for long-distance attacks against the dragon-head boss and Frankenstein, the stopwatch for those annoying skeleton snakes on the walls, the holy water for stationary enemies, the axe for.... ok I never used the axe, and the cross for pretty much everything else the whip's not as good for) the control scheme was really smooth and it made plowing through the levels with well-timed attacks very rewarding. Back to the atmosphere, this game more than any other really displays the horror aspect of the series. (Brief sidenote here: I didn't grow up playing NES, so I don't have an inherent love for the 8-bit graphics, and most of the games look muddy and gross which makes it harder for me to get enthralled by them. However, the horror genre actually relies on gross aesthetics which in turn makes me more invested in them.) Utilizing the enhanced graphical power, it put a lot of attention to detail, from the rotting trees & plants in Stage 2 to the haphazard construction of the Clockwork Mansion to the way the dark hallway leading up to Dracula is lit up by the candles as you walk by them, and so on. This kind of stuff is really cool and I'd like to see more of it. Not to mention the stellar soundtrack; the Dracula fight here is my favorite of the series because of how menacing & foreboding it is, and for how the last quarter Simon's theme kicks in to show how much stronger you've become (the first stage is set up to make you feel like a badass; by the time you've got Dracula backed into a corner you actually ARE a badass). While I still like Castlevania 1 & 3 for their challenge and later stuff like Aria of Sorrow for its exploration, Super Castlevania is still the quintessential Castlevania experience.
It's interesting to see how Arin didn't give a fuck about Castlevania 3 even though it's often times regarded as the best NES-Castlevania. I wonder how he rates Castlevania 3 in comparison to Castlevania 1 now that he actually played it.
yeah but Game Grumps (and I guess now Starbomb) is practically a full time job for him now. he might be just super busy or busy and also lazy (he did admit to laziness being a reason for lack of videos in the A Link to the Past grump series when he talked about Zelda Sequelitis) but it doesn't seem like we'll be getting another video anytime too soon. I'm not complaining, but I also wouldn't complain if we got Zelda Sequelitis or awesome whatever.
If the sub items in the original were so important than why even have the whip? The only thing the whip was good for was destroying candles to get more ammunition for the sub items, if there were no candles the whip would be completely vestigial.
To not waste them. The whip is designed to take down small little enemies so you can get hearts that fuel your sub weapon, so when you fight the boss you can throw and Axe to hit the bat that is out of reach, or toss a cross boomerang to hit the main enemy twice and take out a few of the small things building up. They didn't have the technology to make it to where you can have 8 weapons switch between them on the fly. He talks about it in the first Sequelitis.
This made me realize how tired i am from cute perfect avatars from youtubers. Something about these raw exaggerated expressions and borderline disgusting faces feel incredibly refreshing.
I love the onslaught of negativity and hate on Arin's video after the Zelda sequelitis. Lmao you guys are pathetic. Do you feel better about yourself now that you've "gotten him back" after he critiqued your favorite game?
I actually did agree with all his points! It actually changed my perspective of the games in these videos forever... and yes he did offend me a little but I just shook it of and understood it. Arin knows what he's talking and I respect that.
Blaaz101 dude have you played ocarina? i absolutely felt like that game was fantastic but a lot of his points were right eyeballs on walls are not puzzles and neither is looking around for a diamond to whack those are just door opening tricks. every enemy has a waiting period like seriously every fucking one like its not even quantifiable to say thats a bad point cuz its fucking true they were never hard it was only imaginary hard because it took up your time. the items in modern zelda games make the game so fucking predictable its not even funny like gee i got a bow lemme guess a boss fight where i gotta use a bow like even zelda games AFTER ocarina did it and that was his point that ocarina kept things relatively the same for the sake of consistency i mean he says that SHOULDN'T be done in this video and yet you critique him on saying that about zelda because? while you may be right about him seeming like he is just flat out fully complaining he isn't completely wrong and i think your opinion blinds you just a little bit i mean the spinning spike pucks come on dude thats just fucked up design how the fuck am i going to avoid something i can't even see becasue the camera angle does not allow for me to see it and yeah sure its the nature of 3d games but he did say that for this game the formula needed to deviate from what they thought a zelda game should be and yeah sometimes the older ones may have been confusing but at least when you found things it was exciting like literally NO minibosses are in any of the newer zelda games when they were in link to the past like why is there almost no exploring in ocarina except for when you collect all the heart pieces and hell you don't even need to get the ice arrows like something they could have designed a dungeon around or something but you literally don't even need to do the mini dungeon to get them and considering how its the ONLY mini dungeon in the game (you could say the well is one but it really isn't since you need to go in there anyways) now the cinematics are a little nitpicky but i can see why he nitpicks them. not a lot of people remember the part where the opening cutscene tells you about links mother...well i wondered about that but nothing was even said about her like not even by the great deku tree which has reason not to tell you but the way they start the story doesn't really fit the world much in that regard and come on what happened to the hylians like they pretty much legitimately all died so technically you failed that quest but the game will never address it (aside from the light temple guardian) they just tell you to stop ganon in this timeline but where is the impending doom like you literally are just like "oh fuck" when you go outside but the game does nothing to make you feel like you failed because technically you actually did like some of them moved to kakariko but not every single person the old lady who wanted her dog back totally died and look there are side missions but really and truly very little and really only memorable for either how frustrating they are or how good some of them made you feel but your actions are never truly affecting the world like in majoras mask which i feel they did a better jobs on the sidequests in but in a game where i am adventuring and supposed to be excited its kinda hard not to wonder about some of the things that are just never said and yeah i love this game i have played it like a million times but the game never addresses actual things that happen in the world like what happened to the shiekas literally they are all dead (except for that lady in the village) and then shiek comes along?...what? and like if the game does its dungeons so well how come everyone hates the water temple for being stupid as fuck (its actually my favorite temple for many reasons but i can't deny that people find this the most annoying and confusing dungeon and it really was) like the game doesn't suck by a longshot but his opinions are pretty valid it does take a long time to travel by song in the game mainly because of the cutscenes the owl was annoying and really never a staple character i mean hell you find him like 3 times as young link and literally never see him again unless you are on the top of death mountain and thats fine but the characters ARE boring and forgettable and detached from what you are doing like yeah the sages are people you MIGHT care about but their delivery and overall the interaction with them feels extremely short and sure they care about you but in the long run does anyone really care about them aside from maybe impa i mean saria even seemed like she had a crush on link but its never addressed its like they want me to know and yeah i do know but make interaction with them meaningful don't make it like "oh now i gotta talk to zelda to move the story along" and like basically it has all these one trick pony elements that people accept as a fully fledged story and amazing game and it might be but it does have its flaws
i mean his complaining about the chests was a little nitbicky but he is right about the items being more important than the quests to find the item or the quests to find the dungeons i mean hell i love skyward sword i love the combat its so fun to swing my sword around and shit but its literally gonna stop and wait for you to do some stupid story task or look for a diamond to whack to open a door or guess what shoot another eyeball and it is a predictable time consuming mess like fighting the imprisoned 3 times?...i understand WHY we have to fight him but even i was frustrated by that boss and i knew he was gonna be a little frustrating but it feels like lazy design when we need to fight ANY boss multiple times it becomes this kind of "Oh great this guy again" moment that you just want to be over like remember in metroid other m when you had to fight that one boss like 6 times yeah that shit sucks but see in metroid prime 3 you had to fight ridley twice and it wasn't a moment where you were like "ugh not again" you were like "HOLY SHIT HE HAS ARMOR NOW" and even the fight was different and thats the thing it its the same boss thats fine but the WAY you fight them should change i mean if its coming up multiple times why do i need to do the same thing EVERY time hit the toes then attack the head EVERY SINGLE TIME and how you do it does change because of the items but it still does not change that the tactic to fight him is the same
I never really hear you talk about Dracula’s Curse. Castlevania III was an awesome game. I feel like with everything you mentioned in the first Castlevania Sequelitis video the 3rd game grants you a lot of what you desire. They took the 1st and improved it by giving you multiple paths, various characters to give you new challenges and different takes on the game. You should really do a Sequelitis video on the 3rd game is basically what my long winded-ass is getting at. Btw, love your videos! Game Grumps too!
Game Grumps is easier to produce and gets more views than Sequelitis. If products that take more work and intelligence to make are superior to cheaply made mass-produced products (If you don't think they are, then this argument isn't meant for you), then why does Arin get more success with a cheaper product?
Market saturation. He may get a smaller view count per video, but he can make more of them (and produce them in less time and effort) and thus the smaller view count is amplified with each video. GG has a consistent output level, unlike Ego. Also GG allows him to experiment more with less blowback sooooooooooooooooooo yeaah! also good question :D
I understand what you're saying, but I personally dropped game grumps. BEFORE John left. The quality was wildly inconsistent and watching them fail over and over got old. Worse yet, they would give it their all with old/shit games, but half ass it when it came to fan requests like rogue squadron and Diddy kongs quest.
This might be a little late, but youtube rewards people who shovels out long content more rapidly than short inconsistent content. It doesn't matter whether if it's cheap or not, as long as it gets consistent ad revenue, youtube doesn't care. It's just how Google runs this bitch.
His Zelda sequelitis is a youtube video version of half-life 3. I can wait, but please try and release it before the end of the century. :) I'd like to see it before I die.
I do have to disagree with you on this one.. Castlevania IV fixed all the problems that you had to endure in the first one. A stiff controll over Simon. But in the fourth you have full controll over Simon, and now the challange comes from the enemies and the game, rather than losing all the time from enemies pushing you over gaps. And as for the weapons, the weapons are only crucial for the bosses, the rest of the time you only need the whip. Plus you could be sufficent with the wip in the first game.
Even the bosses don't need to be hurt with weapons. The weapons just made it easier, especially in yhe case of Death. But it is definitely possible to beat every boss in the game with just the whip.
I want the sequelitis for Megaman Zero how is it better and how it is worst than the Megaman X series and maybe even add Megaman ZX since it us more of the same but different.
Animating a full length 19 minute cartoon+ 36 hour work Getting the gameplay of really hard old gamez! 8 to 9 hour work Doing GG every day and making commercialz for GG. 4 hour 10 minute work. ARIN TAKE YOUR FUCKIN TIME!
People defend him, but I really don't think he fully grasps the point of this. With increased control, it's more the fault of the player and less on cheap design that the player dies. Remember all those 1-hit KOs from knockback from the first 3 Castlevania games? Greatly reduced. Remember how horrible stairs were in the first 3 games? Now you can actually do something about it, so you can't complain about cheap design. Super Castlevania IV cut down the bs moments significantly. Items were still very much useful. Hell, several boss fights would be nightmares without them.
Pan Z It's funny that you think he doesn't "fully grasp the point of this" when really you're the one who doesn't get it. From 3:42 on is where he really makes his point, so I recommend you watch from there. Basically what he's saying is that the developers put the items in Castlevania 4 because they were in the previous games. However they didn't realize that with the new format, items were more or less obsolete. This is a problem because the game could have been so much more than it is if they just didn't care so much about making it the same as the first/third one. The increased control absolutely reduces the number of bs moments, and he's not saying that's bad. He's just saying that this increased control gave the game a lot more potential for new and innovative mechanics and the developers failed to capitalize on that.
Stuart Smith He seems disgruntled over the new control scheme early on in the video. And the items do, greatly, help. He didn't show moments where items significantly aided Simon since that wouldn't prove his point.
Pan Z No...you're still missing the point. He's not really talking about the items, he's talking about the game's missed potential. The developers made drastic changes to the control scheme in such a way that the game became less compatible with the old format (items), and yet they still decided to include them for tradition's sake. What they should have done was expand upon the changes they made, not limit the game for consistency.
Stuart Smith The whole point of the game was to use the original games formula, but greatly improve things on a fundamental basis, such as level design, AI, enemy design, level variation, graphics, control, bosses, and music. They did succeed. He was pointing out how the items didn't change, even some of the basic gameplay mechanics did, rendering them essentially useless. Minor problem: the items still come in handy.
CV4 is the best cvania ever. period. with sub-weapons or not. this video says that it could have been better. yes, maybe it could have been faster imo. well, we can only close our eyes and dream of the possibilities..! ^^
I remember about 10 years ago I went into a used book store ( they sell used games, too) and bought a snes just to play cv4. The button for the sub-weapons didn’t work, and I was too lazy to switch it to another button. I had no problem beating the game, and I still enjoyed the hell out of it. On a side note: I think cv 3 is a close second. I think they were released months apart, oddly enough. I always wanted a cv that took the best elements of 2, 3, and 4. The rpg elements and towns of 2, ( I actually liked it, though there were some really frustrating aspects to it), the multiple paths and different characters of 3, and the crisp gameplay of 4. To me, that would be just perfect.
Castlevania 3, so rudely ignored in this video is a great example of how to sequel. It takes all the mechanics that work in the first game and adds something new. One crucial element. REPLAY VALUE! Alternate paths, multiple endings, four playable characters. But everything about that first game, the tight controls and clever level design, resource management and knowing which weapon (and now which partner) to bring for each area. It's good. Better than the original, honestly. Great game.
Yeah the multiple directional whip kinda makes sub weapons useless but I think that makes it better because the sub weapons are there if you WANT to use them. I can't tell you how many times in CV1 and CV3 I would lose a sub weapon I needed and stood basically no chance against a boss. In CV4 I like that the sub weapons are just there if you want it. It takes the frustration out of losing a sub weapons you might need for a certain boss
Agreed. I think the issue is that the game fails to take full advantage of Simon's new abilities. Could have added more hidden stuff, made the swinging hooks more of an option to get around like in the Treasure Room, more hidden rooms. The weapons are more useful if you try playing the second quest. BTW, Cross is totally busted in this game...
+Nate etaN But the older games were frustrating for the wrong reasons. Losing an item because you picked up another item? Garbage. Play Monster Hunter. That's a game series that does frustrating Correctly.
i think the adventure playthrough did enough... and the mere existence of rise of lyric. it's becoming grating to just see "oh wow sonic fucking sucks" around every corner. like what if a game you liked now suddenly had an awful reputation? Then a internet celebrity comes a round and his opinions make the backlash even more abundant? it would kinda be a little disheartening.
Biddybalboa never meant that. i have criticized sonic , and even poked fun at it. But it's different with Arin. he's made it very clear he just doesn't like sonic, which in it of itself is fine. But Arin is famous, and when a famous person says or does something, about something. Even of his fans have zero knowledge of it, they'll hope along for the ride. so really all that came from it was people deciding "sonic was never good" just because the grumps said so
I use the cross to defeat Dracula in this game... oh, no one cares? Okay. Anyway, he's right about the mechanics of the game, but let's be serious--this game measured simply on its own merit is freaking amazing. It's fun as hell, whether or not we believe it lives up to all the idealistic conventions of what is supposed to make a "sequel." Arin's points are all valid, but they certainly don't diminish from the excellence that is Super Castlevania IV.
Phvrvoh Phonk alright then, how old is Simon in SC4? if it was the same simon(which it is) then he'd be well over 100 years old. so no, its a remake, dont deny it
I didn't like Super Castlevania IV as much as the others 2D linear castlevania, and the reason for that is that I aways thought that it was too easy, but this video made it very clear why it was too easy. I think that Rondo of Blood is the definitive classic castlevania.
i agree rondo of blood is definitely the best classic type of castlevania, a terrific soundtrack, less bullshit to put up with, the challenge scales with how the player gets better with the control, fun to play and if someone comments that its not good because its a bit easy then have you even played the game? the game is difficult but in a hard and fair manner, if you think that difficulty should be based on bullshit like in the first 3 castlevania games then go play megaman & bass on the super nintendo then you'll retract that statement and agree with me. although I think that the best castlevania games ever made would have to be the metroivania ones which really kicked off a new era in the castlevania universe with a bang using castlevania symphony of the night which is one of the best games I have ever played
shadowshinobi06 wow the SNES version? that thing is fucking bullshit incarnate, that game is 100% inferior to the original rondo of blood and can go fuck itself
shadowshinobi06 It is still inferior (not 100%, since it can hold its own as a game when not compared to Rondo- which makes Dracula X look very inferior when compared to Rondo). Rondo had remixed music to add a familiarity feeling as well as adding it's own catchy tunes. Graphics don't make the game, but Rondo still had amazing graphics and had a way better level design not centered around bullshit (Rondo also had immense detail put into the moving backgrounds and it's still ones [the semi-still backgrounds are in levels that are enclosed rooms like the dungeon and the clock tower]). Rondo was on the PCE-Super CD, meaning it had way more colors and way more capabilities. Rondo had anime style yes, but at least it added it's art style throughout the game (Dracula X only had some pictures of the art... but neither art direction is good compared to Ayami Kojima's art- which was in the Dracula X Chronicles: the Rondo of Blood in polygons). Dracula X is filled with platforming bullshit and unfair spearguard placement (not only making it challenging, but an overall giant pile of bullshit deaths). Rondo had less bullshit, but still had a hefty amount of difficulty (making death more of the player's fault instead of the bullshit- it causes less frustration and adds more enjoyability when playing long term). The best part of Rondo of Blood is that it had great replayability with its non-linear gameplay and cool secrets (Dracula X could be beaten in one playthrough if you had the patience of remembering levels. But then there isn't as much fun to be had replaying Dracula X than to replay Rondo). And Maria is basically the easy mode of Rondo; she's not required to be played but she is an extremely overpowered glass cannon of awesomeness. :)
These videos by Arin are freaking gold and really helps me understand game design better than my college classes did. I regret not having seen these before. It seems like I missed out on a ton of awesome shit. We really need more of these! Every game dev should watch them! There isn't anything like it nowadays. And yeah, man. Having a Castlevania just based around using your starter weapon would be way nice, without the need of items just to fill in empty space that was not supposed to be filled in anyway.
C'mon Arin. It doesn't make you use the subweapons. You can't say it's bad game design to include them anyway. It's redundant, yes, if you wanna stick with the whip the whole time, but it's not a negative. The controls are better, the graphics are better, this whole game is superior. I will say that having the subweapons be necessary would have been conducive to a more wholly fulfilling game, but having them in doesn't hurt it. You're always puritanical when it comes to game franchises, though. Sequelitis as a series is nothing but yellow journalism, and that's fine because it's an opinion-driven show. Still entertaining as fuck, even if I disagree with some of the things said.
Ok, why is nobody saying Arin needs to make a game? He's got all these great (or not great) ideas, i say he needs to get his ass on designing a 2d adventure something. He's got a great head on his shoulders, lets see if he (and some other dudes) could do any better
We really need more Sequelitis.

'Please don't think this is a bad game or a bad sequel.'
He's criticizing a single aspect. Even the description says he likes it. He's just sayin'. Just sayin'. I dunno why people hop on every excuse given to be mad.
Yeah the main problem with people on the internet is that they always have to misinterpret what people say.
It is because he showed how flawed Ocarina of Time is.
You ROCK for understanding his true intentions ^^
TheBrazilRules you know, OoT isn't a bad game either, like arin said, it just doesnt follow what he thinks is the true nature of zelda games.
Deathpunch4477
It is not a bad game. Just a bad Zelda.
"Be honest, how many of you threw the knife!?"
Truthfully, I never used the knife. In ANY Castlevania game.
*****
Okay, I'll give you that.
I'm just sayin'
_cheers_

youtube has fundamentally changed for the worse, in that content like this takes time and effort and will simply get buried under shitty reaction videos and a mountain of other lets play channels. it's for the best when it comes to how he's moved on.
content like this just isn’t feasibly sustainable on youtube anymore 🤷♀️
Seeing the replies here makes me wanna do a fan-sequelitis, tbh
@@MixxC Not true, what about all the video essays on games, TV and movies? That's all long form analysis content
The idea that they could have changed enemies so that the whip wasn't as effective against them could have also fixed problems he addressed.
darkwiz666
That is not the same at all.
What the fu...)
A more correct example would be if LttP had your sword compensate for all the jobs of those usable special items (bow, the magical rods, boomerang, inter-dimensional mirror etc.) yet still had those items in the game ...
I'm convinced the multi-directional whipping was added in to the game near the end of it's development.
mash587 I was about to write a comment just about that but then I pressed "read more".

I like how Egoraptor isn't afraid to criticize games like Ocarina of Time and CV4 that everyone loves and the flaws are rarely pointed out.
+TheSilentStorm it shouldnt feel like hes just critsizing games because theyre popular
I rewatched all of these at least 5 times. I really love this series, I wish he could make more of them...

Do Super Metroid vs. Metroid Prime
+The Helmaroc King i would agree but metroid did the one thing developers of the 3d transition were afraid of. it changed the way you played to fit its new world. its still a metroid, but its different, and that was brilliant.
We don't need his "opinion" on a good game he likely sucks ass at. LTTP vs OOT was bad enough.
(reference: Fire and Water temple episodes.)
Why? because he clearly sucks at OOT. I'm not here to say that's the ONLY reason however, but it is more than likely the governing factor behind his "opinions".
I have no faith he would give Metroid Prime justice against the side scroller Metroids.
super vs fusion

Thank you for making this kind of content, Arin. YES, he should. The 2D Sonic games vs. the 3D Sonic games. I would love to see him rip on how bad THAT transition is.
robokou He considers 2D sonic games bad too.
I disagree
I wish Arin would spend more time on his content. I miss things like this.

Glad to see this channet back up and running and seeing more sequelitis episodes. Was worried that we wouldnt see these again. Keep up the good shit
Love the "Wipikah!" at 2:31.
Just realized that the same thing could be said about Bioshock Infinite
I dunno about really. Bioshock Infinite wasn't really trying to be the same as the other two games. It WAS trying to be different, and added things you could do acordingly! Like using the hook to get around and position yourself in battle and adding tears to open, to give yourself an advantage!
If you really wanna say the same thing about a Bioshock game, say it about the second game..
Funny. Extra Credits did an episode on that called "In Service to the Brand."
Meda And also the exact opposite of donkey Kong returns
LOL
"The game wants you to clearly use axes to defeat these monsters, but..... WHIP IT GOOD"
Skeleton Snake Dragon Heads from the wall made me spit my drink out. Thank you for the years of laughter.
This is why Rondo of Blood is the best Classicvania game
Rondo of Blood (or Dracula X or WHATEVER) is a good game, but personally my favorite is Super Castlevania 4.
(And the replays do get tougher, adding more enemies and having more damage get taken off.)
On the other hand I have still not beaten Castlevania 3 without save-states. (Leaving one before the Dracula battle, not between forms.)
I have not played a Castlevania game yet which I utterly despised, or went "this is terrible", except for Simon's Quest . . . where my words were more "this needed to be left to cook a little longer, because it's so half-baked".

Jimmy William but the levels are so boring. Where's the alternate paths?
Someone's watching too much anime I presume.
@@meandtheboyz4675 Who?
Remember when Arin said he wanted to do another one? I remember.
So does Pepperidge Farm
@@Gadget-Walkmenwait how is stopping just to grind items not repetitive boring garbage?
@@Clangokkuner because it all depends on HOW it’s done and HOW the flow of getting items are portrayed in game if you can get them all seamlessly ingame as it FAR from “bOrInG rEPEITIVE gaRbaGe” in THIS context when the flow isn’t broken down from when you have to get all the items pretty easily which the game is all about!
0:12 oh the good ol days
do a Sequilitis on the pokemon games
here it is... Same game, different characters, then megaevolutions.
You betchya.
ugh. just just just. ugh.
Belmont Ziimon
The conversation would likely be about the minor differences that change each game. It's a little too simplistic to just pare it down to that. Breeding alone could provide a whole episode of Sequelitis.
Belmont Ziimon for a casual player yeah there are minor differences but if you get into battling and the competitive side there can be HUGEEEEEE diffrences.
Aaron these videos always make me laugh, every single time! Keep up the great work and don't listen to all the jerks who hate on you!
But before that Simon's Quest was the first Change into Metroidvania ways.
TheShepherd82
True.
TheShepherd82
Yeah.
What gives it so much potential? The setting?
well quantifying potential is hard, but having to abide by specific characteristics does lessen the creative freedom of the studio and the minds that are developing the game, simply to chase the fame and fortune of a past greatness
Merick Its the same place as rapture but a different universe..constants and variables man..the big daddies and plasmids were constants and the vigor was the variable. I have no problems with infinit. I appreatiated it not as a sequal prequal or what ever it is but the fact its a game that I enjoyed playing. I dont waist my time looking at faults I just enjoy the game for what it is..something to play.
i dont look at it as "something to play" its a peace of art, one to be admired but one with flaws like anything else, i like understanding why i experience something in a game rather than just bumbling through it
as a community if we idly let something stagnate simple because its just "something to play" than that medium wont grow with us to enhance our experiences and interactions, both in game and around the community, just look at DarkSouls as a small example
2:45 Slays me every time I watch this vid.
The sub weapons in this game are mainly for the bosses, which can be defeated much faster and easier with the right one, especially if coupled with a III-tablet.
I miss the days when you used to make this kind of original content. I remember when I got to meet you it was awesome. 2020 and I think I’ve lost all hope.
parasocial relationship
Why is this only 5 min long? I want more.
@Tom Ffrench Keep in mind that Super Castlevania IV was released less than 1 year after the release of the SNES.
2:05 but you could always whip while ducking... and most times you’re whipping straight
It's interesting to see how Arin didn't give a fuck about Castlevania 3 even though it's often times regarded as the best NES-Castlevania. I wonder how he rates Castlevania 3 in comparison to Castlevania 1 now that he actually played it.
+Daniel Hunter yeah I never understood why
+megajay 12 It's because he never played it as a kid so he didn't have an opinion on it. He has a playthrough of it on Game Grumps.
So, uh.... didn't he say he was gonna make a Zelda sequelitis?
Shhhhhhhhh.
In all honesty though... I wish he would at least update us about it.
yeah but Game Grumps (and I guess now Starbomb) is practically a full time job for him now. he might be just super busy or busy and also lazy (he did admit to laziness being a reason for lack of videos in the A Link to the Past grump series when he talked about Zelda Sequelitis) but it doesn't seem like we'll be getting another video anytime too soon.
Also dude...? You are absolutely hilarious xD I love the random noises u make and I lost it when u made fun of the skyward sword character xDDD
This made me realize how tired i am from cute perfect avatars from youtubers. Something about these raw exaggerated expressions and borderline disgusting faces feel incredibly refreshing.
Arin, how long have you been making the zelda episode?
2 years? Get it out
I love the onslaught of negativity and hate on Arin's video after the Zelda sequelitis.
Blaaz101 dude have you played ocarina? i absolutely felt like that game was fantastic but a lot of his points were right eyeballs on walls are not puzzles and neither is looking around for a diamond to whack those are just door opening tricks. every enemy has a waiting period like seriously every fucking one like its not even quantifiable to say thats a bad point cuz its fucking true they were never hard it was only imaginary hard because it took up your time. the items in modern zelda games make the game so fucking predictable its not even funny like gee i got a bow lemme guess a boss fight where i gotta use a bow like even zelda games AFTER ocarina did it and that was his point that ocarina kept things relatively the same for the sake of consistency i mean he says that SHOULDN'T be done in this video and yet you critique him on saying that about zelda because? while you may be right about him seeming like he is just flat out fully complaining he isn't completely wrong and i think your opinion blinds you just a little bit i mean the spinning spike pucks come on dude thats just fucked up design how the fuck am i going to avoid something i can't even see becasue the camera angle does not allow for me to see it and yeah sure its the nature of 3d games but he did say that for this game the formula needed to deviate from what they thought a zelda game should be and yeah sometimes the older ones may have been confusing but at least when you found things it was exciting like literally NO minibosses are in any of the newer zelda games when they were in link to the past like why is there almost no exploring in ocarina except for when you collect all the heart pieces and hell you don't even need to get the ice arrows like something they could have designed a dungeon around or something but you literally don't even need to do the mini dungeon to get them and considering how its the ONLY mini dungeon in the game (you could say the well is one but it really isn't since you need to go in there anyways) now the cinematics are a little nitpicky but i can see why he nitpicks them. not a lot of people remember the part where the opening cutscene tells you about links mother...well i wondered about that but nothing was even said about her like not even by the great deku tree which has reason not to tell you but the way they start the story doesn't really fit the world much in that regard and come on what happened to the hylians like they pretty much legitimately all died so technically you failed that quest but the game will never address it (aside from the light temple guardian) they just tell you to stop ganon in this timeline but where is the impending doom like you literally are just like "oh fuck" when you go outside but the game does nothing to make you feel like you failed because technically you actually did like some of them moved to kakariko but not every single person the old lady who wanted her dog back totally died and look there are side missions but really and truly very little and really only memorable for either how frustrating they are or how good some of them made you feel but your actions are never truly affecting the world like in majoras mask which i feel they did a better jobs on the sidequests in but in a game where i am adventuring and supposed to be excited its kinda hard not to wonder about some of the things that are just never said and yeah i love this game i have played it like a million times but the game never addresses actual things that happen in the world like what happened to the shiekas literally they are all dead (except for that lady in the village) and then shiek comes along?...what? and like if the game does its dungeons so well how come everyone hates the water temple for being stupid as fuck (its actually my favorite temple for many reasons but i can't deny that people find this the most annoying and confusing dungeon and it really was) like the game doesn't suck by a longshot but his opinions are pretty valid it does take a long time to travel by song in the game mainly because of the cutscenes the owl was annoying and really never a staple character i mean hell you find him like 3 times as young link and literally never see him again unless you are on the top of death mountain and thats fine but the characters ARE boring and forgettable and detached from what you are doing like yeah the sages are people you MIGHT care about but their delivery and overall the interaction with them feels extremely short and sure they care about you but in the long run does anyone really care about them aside from maybe impa i mean saria even seemed like she had a crush on link but its never addressed its like they want me to know and yeah i do know but make interaction with them meaningful don't make it like "oh now i gotta talk to zelda to move the story along" and like basically it has all these one trick pony elements that people accept as a fully fledged story and amazing game and it might be but it does have its flaws
derpaholicus whistles Well said!
i mean his complaining about the chests was a little nitbicky but he is right about the items being more important than the quests to find the item or the quests to find the dungeons i mean hell i love skyward sword i love the combat its so fun to swing my sword around and shit but its literally gonna stop and wait for you to do some stupid story task or look for a diamond to whack to open a door or guess what shoot another eyeball and it is a predictable time consuming mess like fighting the imprisoned 3 times?...i understand WHY we have to fight him but even i was frustrated by that boss and i knew he was gonna be a little frustrating but it feels like lazy design when we need to fight ANY boss multiple times it becomes this kind of "Oh great this guy again" moment that you just want to be over like remember in metroid other m when you had to fight that one boss like 6 times yeah that shit sucks but see in metroid prime 3 you had to fight ridley twice and it wasn't a moment where you were like "ugh not again" you were like "HOLY SHIT HE HAS ARMOR NOW" and even the fight was different and thats the thing it its the same boss thats fine but the WAY you fight them should change i mean if its coming up multiple times why do i need to do the same thing EVERY time hit the toes then attack the head EVERY SINGLE TIME and how you do it does change because of the items but it still does not change that the tactic to fight him is the same
Jan Ri. FullMetal Dragneel oh and thank you sir/madam
Does someone even remember Castlevania III?
I really liked it because it's the first appearance of Alucard.
dudes castlevania III was the best out of the series
Meh. It's just okay. It was really hard.
Vartholome I've never even seen a physical copy in my life.

LOL yeah
You shit?
Amazing videos. Ever since I found Arin's video's he had my respect, easily one of favorite TH-camrs.
Oh fuck, I can't believe it's been two years since this went up!
TheMuffinMan626 Fair enough. I wish there was a way he could be rewarded for the quality if his work so he could feel more encouraged to do it.
Ryan Sweeney too bad animation works pays little
His Zelda sequelitis is a youtube video version of half-life 3. I can wait, but please try and release it before the end of the century. :) I'd like to see it before I die.
This is actually an excellent video with excellent criticism. *claps applaudingly*
Too be fair; no one ever used the knife in Castlevania 1 either.
so true
Exactly in fact i couldnt even rech that level that game sucks hard!!
Jong Won Teves What are you talking about?
BelatedGamer hehehe LOL no seriously i never got there
It helped me a lot personally
Super Castlevania 4 is by far the best and my favorite castlevania game.
This was great. Your critiques are so refreshing!
Could Egoraptor just please make a Super Mario Kart vs Mario Kart 64 sequelitis?
Time for a video game analogy!
'SMK is to no BS... as SM64 is to BS'
(BS also stands for Blue Shell btw)
I want the sequelitis for Megaman Zero how is it better and how it is worst than the Megaman X series and maybe even add Megaman ZX since it us more of the same but different.
Animating a full length 19 minute cartoon+ 36 hour work Getting the gameplay of really hard old gamez! 8 to 9 hour work Doing GG every day and making commercialz for GG. 4 hour 10 minute work. ARIN TAKE YOUR FUCKIN TIME!
Please make more of these. I love them so damn much man
People defend him, but I really don't think he fully grasps the point of this.
Pan Z I give up. You still don't understand his argument and I don't know how else to explain it, so unless you figure it out I'm done.
I want my Zelda Sequelitis!
The frustration is why its so satisfying when you get it right. Easier does not equal better.
+Nate etaN Agreed. And you get frustrated when you mess up.
+Nate etaN But the older games were frustrating for the wrong reasons. Losing an item because you picked up another item? Garbage. Play Monster Hunter. That's a game series that does frustrating Correctly.
Crono I agree. Shame after all these games they still can't make a perfect hitbox tho.
Just tear sonic to shreds and then you can do whatever bro, but do bring us the sonic sequelitus.
i think the adventure playthrough did enough... and the mere existence of rise of lyric. it's becoming grating to just see "oh wow sonic fucking sucks" around every corner.
like what if a game you liked now suddenly had an awful reputation? Then a internet celebrity comes a round and his opinions make the backlash even more abundant? it would kinda be a little disheartening.
Dylan Trent just because you like something doesn't mean it can do no wrong
Biddybalboa never meant that. i have criticized sonic , and even poked fun at it. But it's different with Arin. he's made it very clear he just doesn't like sonic, which in it of itself is fine. But Arin is famous, and when a famous person says or does something, about something. Even of his fans have zero knowledge of it, they'll hope along for the ride.
so really all that came from it was people deciding "sonic was never good" just because the grumps said so
Ok, does anyone else think some Nintendo employee watched this video and decided to use it to make that new Chibi Robo game for the 3DS?
I constantly return to this video and channel because I LOVE sequelitus and I miss new ones
I use the cross to defeat Dracula in this game... oh, no one cares? Okay. Anyway, he's right about the mechanics of the game, but let's be serious--this game measured simply on its own merit is freaking amazing. It's fun as hell, whether or not we believe it lives up to all the idealistic conventions of what is supposed to make a "sequel." Arin's points are all valid, but they certainly don't diminish from the excellence that is Super Castlevania IV.
super castlevania 4 is a remake of the first game...
Zyad48 - The Warrior of Evil Nah, I don't believe that. It's more of a sequel that's paying homage to the first with lots of fan-service.
I think that Rondo of Blood is the definitive classic castlevania.
hahahahahaha thats hilarious.
no the third one is
i agree rondo of blood is definitely the best classic type of castlevania, a terrific soundtrack, less bullshit to put up with, the challenge scales with how the player gets better with the control, fun to play and if someone comments that its not good because its a bit easy then have you even played the game? the game is difficult but in a hard and fair manner, if you think that difficulty should be based on bullshit like in the first 3 castlevania games then go play megaman & bass on the super nintendo then you'll retract that statement and agree with me. although I think that the best castlevania games ever made would have to be the metroivania ones which really kicked off a new era in the castlevania universe with a bang using castlevania symphony of the night which is one of the best games I have ever played
shadowshinobi06 wow the SNES version? that thing is fucking bullshit incarnate, that game is 100% inferior to the original rondo of blood and can go fuck itself
shadowshinobi06 It is still inferior (not 100%, since it can hold its own as a game when not compared to Rondo- which makes Dracula X look very inferior when compared to Rondo).
"These videos by Arin are freaking gold and really helps me understand game design better than my college classes did"
Are you fucking high?
@@goukeban6197well 3 out of the 4 ones are really well done
I saw this video the day it came out 8 years ago.
And I only noticed this now...

Did he just say MAYtuh when describing meta???
I dont think he was saying having the items makes it worse. He was lamenting the unrealized potential to do creative new things with the items
Yeah, lots of people go buster only for Mega Man, so I don't see the issue with having a more powerful whip. Subweapons are that..."secondary".
He never said it was a bad game.
next sequelitis is going to be zelda
but...when is it coming?
sorry but idont now en is coming i only now next sequelitis is gonig yo be zelda and if u dont belive me search on youtube sequelitis in progres zelda
Jack Baznia 2017
relly how
In 2020?
Ok, why is nobody saying Arin needs to make a game? He's got all these great (or not great) ideas, i say he needs to get his ass on designing a 2d adventure something. He's got a great head on his shoulders, lets see if he (and some other dudes) could do any better
Well there was that whole nasty business with The Tester that was utter bullshit.
Are you serious or are you just a angry fanboy using the lamest excuse in the book. Cus if you are serious thats a good idea
Because being a good critic doesn't mean you can build and program a game...
