"Geelong will miss finals due to the loss of Selwood" - would have been a great call this time last year.
I don't understand why Geelong fall in so many peoples eyes, they had the second most amount of injuries of any team last year and when they did have a full team they blew teams out of the water. They have had 2 years of outstanding players come into the club and they have a very easy draw this year. How Geelong fall from in Buckley's eyes is insane, i think top 4 might be a stretch with how well Collingwood, Carlton and Brisbane are going, but top 8 is surely a lock in.
Yeah good call, much as I’d like to see Geelong down the bottom for at least a year or two rebuild as most other teams are forced to do, Geelong somehow seem immune to needing rebuilds down the bottom of the ladder . Frankly i’d be surprised if they miss the 8.
Not a cats fan, but gotta respect the players, coach, and org for their reliable track record of making finals.

Cornes praising Sydney and their coach ("maybe the best in the league" you just said?)for going all in on mills and backing him as captain when your clearly were one of the few saying he should be reprimanded and it was such unprofessional behaviour to injure himself the way he did on mad Monday. Did I miss something?
Longmire's record speaks for itself. He's a gun and has been for a long time but I'll admit the Mills "sole captaincy" decision is a strange one. Remember though, the players have a huge say on who is going to captain the team.

I live in Perth so not sure about some previous years but a good mate and I go to lunch bar and skim the back pages of the paper waiting for food and have got to the point of just taking the piss out of the Harley Reid stuff now. We are sporting fans not just footy fans and the 30 times is not an exaggeration. This being when there's been a whole Aussie summer of cricket, the Australian Open tennis come and gone, basketball, A-League + the US sports. The hype and narrow view of the WA media is an embarrassment. A Swans fan, so enjoyed Bucks' kind words here but would love to see Harley have a good season..

Agree with Bucks on Geelong but everyone seems to forget that its not Collingwood or these big clubs that ever have to play down there or why Geelong have bigger 'advantages' over anyone else. Eddie and Bucks would probably get lost trying to get down there if they ever had to. In 500 games as player and coach probably never went to the ground. Agree with rest of his analysis here though. Mate is a keen Cats fan and noticed it all looked too happy and not ruthless like start of 2022. A lot of older guys satisfied with that flag now. For as great of a player and media work he does, Danger seems to chilled and jovial a character to be a ruthless multiple winning captain. Ive got Sydney in 5th and Geelong 12th in my pre season prediction

Every season there are teams that exceed expectations and there are teams that drop. Every tram has their time in the sun, weather it’s a brief moment or a 15 yr dynasty. BUT THE SUN ALWAYS SETS. Doesn’t mean there won’t be another sunrise, it just means it’s the end of an era.

I did laugh that Bucks refused to say Maxwell and Malthouse haha. Not many people talk about it, but the winning combination from the last two decades is a good coach and a great captain at half back to see the whole field.

I think we have been spoilt recently with Daicos and Sheezel. So it makes sense that there is hype there.
Nathan Buckley described the West Coast Eagles right now as tragic and yes there's some truth to it. But I'd reserve the word tragic for the Bulldogs 62 year flag drought, or Fremantle without a premiership, Carlton 2002-2022 or Essendon and the 2013 supplements scandal.

I reckon so. Swans fan and was so pleased we got this trade done. Grundy was a flop at Melbourne as he couldnt play as a forward. Not sure if it was stubborn attitude or too proud to change, possibly both player and club a bit at fault. But doesnt matter for this trade, he will be # 1 starting ruck for us and given the comfort. Tom Hickey was a great clubman but felt he was certainly coming to the end and never really recovered from the 2022 GF. Was a liability for a lot of last year. This is a great trade. I have to probably concede he's played his very best level at Collingwood but if he can get to 80% of that it will be a boost for our exciting mids this year. Anything better than that will be a bonus. Cant wait to see how he goes!!

I don't disagree with the comments regarding the Sydney Swans but to my mind the side that's really going to have a huge year is the Baggers. It's not what I want to see but the reality is that a lot things happen in footy that you might not like.

I believe even Bucks will get a shock as to just how much Grundy along with Adams is going to catapult Sydney. It’s not just Grundy‘s ability, but it’s like putting an important part in an engine. The part itself isn’t the be all and end all, but it makes the engine function at its best.
As Buckley said, it also allows the “terrorists,” (Gulden, Warner, and yes I think Sheldrick and others) to run amok. Letting Parker off the leash is important as he can be a serious forward threat and kick goals. Then if Logan McDonald fires up due to the lack of Buddy, I think it’s all over rover. 🦢🦢🦢
