    thanks for pointing out in the beginning of the video on the wattage limitations of the socket. that is certainly a dealbreaker for many applications such as using an existing floodlight. it saved me from putting it on my list for certain use cases. it was too good to be true and while the functionality is great, it can create an unsightly clutter with all the wire management if it can’t be done cleanly. the strong appeal is the price point.

    • @TechYourLife1
      @TechYourLife1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was surprised on that one too! Glad it saves you in this case. I think the floodlight would have overwhelmed the camera view anyways from what I'm seeing on mine

      i mean with led bulbs, 30 watts allows an insanely bright bulb, what exactly are you doing illuminating the moon?

  • @dnoland77
    @dnoland77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Beautiful concept. Wyze needs to make this work with a v2 and up the wattage to a standard 60 watts. I noticed Brians lamp fixture was frosted but all mine are clear. I prefer the look of a clear incandescent in a clear fixture. Yes, I know that they are starting to make more led filament bulbs but that market is not quite mature yet and I already have a stash of about 400 incandescents. Hard to beat 59 cents a bulb.

    • @TechYourLife1
      @TechYourLife1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah and that would be a 59 cent bulb forever!

    So one of the problems I have with their lamp solution socket is that in most cases porch lights within arms reach for you and a potential thief...the cable that Wyze provides is so short it that it forces you to mount the camera at about the same height as the porch light so a thief could just cover their face and go up and snatch the camera off the wall. Yes you could buy a longer cable but any off-the-shelf USB cable connections will not fit into the lamp socket's USB connection because of the special sized usb connector required by the lamp socket for water proofing. So to extend the cable length you'd have to purchase a special connector to attach the short cable provided to your extension cable and then you have to figure out how to make that connection point water proof. IMO Wyze should provide (even if they sell i as an add on) the connector and the water proofing mechanism for that connector (maybe a heat shrink wrap). It would literally cost them no more than a couple of dollars (if that) to provide a solution to extend the cable (i.e., USB-to-USB connector and the waterproofing shrink wrapping). It's all about providing solutions....customers don't want to have research, try out potential solutions and purchase individual components to solve their issues...most people don't have time to do that. This was enough of a barrier to me that I decided to go with another vendor camera (ReoLink Argus Pro 3 with solar panel). No having to figure out how to run cables to a power socket, no need to worry about researching and then jury rigging a water proof cable solution so that I could place the camera out of reach and where I wanted to. It's a lost sale for Wyze. It's nice that Wyze provides a lamp socket product but someone forgot to think this through.

    • @myNEONCITY
      @myNEONCITY ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad you found a solution that works for you, but your whole comment is way too nitpicky. No other company offers a solution like this, but you feel the need to complain. Most security cameras can be easily ripped off by anyone, but they’ll be recorded doing so. Not much point to that tbh.

    I want to point out something that some don't know. If you already have a v3 and installing a lamp socket, you need to use the supplied usb cable that comes with the lamp socket in order to have function of the light features. You can use the existing v3 usb cable but for some reason it will not allow you to use the light features on the lamp socket.

    Since the switch powers the bulb, I assume we have to leave the switch on, but I don't want my light to be on 24/7. If using a regular led bulb in the socket, would I be able to turn the light on and off without shutting off the camera?

    • @NOMASAIM

      No. Switch has to be on. You could set a rule to turn light on with motion and from sunset to sunrise, but with power switch off neither lighting routines or camera will work.

    To all, do not “over tighten” the bulb in the socket. If you do happen to securely insert the bulb in the light socket bad things may happen. The light socket will “break” and physically dislodge from the fixture itself, and when you unscrew your bulb, the socket will stay connected to your bulb and be removed from the housing.
