  • One of the most interesting Wyze products, the Wyze Socket allows you to have a V3 camera power port, smart light bulb controller, and multi-device lighting network all in one compact, super easy to install product. Easily paired with additional sockets, they create a small combined smart lighting network that you can control together from the app, Wyze Switch, or other rules. Detecting motion? You can have all three lights turn on around your home at the same time.

    Nice Vid, Thx for going beyond the basic's. Got mine from Wyze in March of 2023 for $10+ (lucky me).
    My 1st test is to see what is setting off my basement Wyze motion detector (V2). Which the triggers my Wyze Home Monitoring Sys. I will be using the new Wyze OG flood light Cam.
    Thx again for the detailed explaination

    what do you think about those bulb sockets to power outlet thingys? I have a remote area in my warehouse that only has a light switch and a light bulb, but I wanted to set up some things over there and bought one of those lightbulb to 2 prong power adapter thingys.

    I didn't read the details very carefully when I recently purchased my new v3Pan cam and socket. It turns out, the socket is not controllable with the very new v3PanCam.

    NOTE: You must use the power cord that comes with the socket for this product to work. I just installed several with my current cameras and neglected to change the power cables and the sockets did not show up. Switched to the included new cables and bam, good to go.

      Can you guys suggest a cable that works? I’m perplexed that the cable supplied in the box doesn’t work, but another cable does (supplies power) but no cables i tried so far let me turn off the light. I guess I’ll unscrew the bulb. Not really a smart light. definitely dumb.

      Ok, update, I got it to work! How? 80 grit sandpaper. They forget to mention in the manual that you might need to do some sanding to get the cables to mate correctly. lol. oh china….

    I have a Porch light that has bult in outlet. The problem with it is that when I turn off the light there is no power to the outlets. The light is sold at the Home Depot called "Mission Style Black with Bronze Highlight Outdoor Wall Lantern with Built-In Electrical Outlet" Do you know if this socket will still have power when I turn off the light switch?

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the outlet has to stay on for electricity to flow. You can control smart features though with a Wyze switch, the app, or their scheduler. I hope that helps.

    am I out of luck for using a lamp socket in the day? Should I cover my photocells somehow?
    So, I have the lamp socket in a dusk-til-dawn fixture. I didn’t realize I couldn’t “turn off” the feature of my hard-wired fixture. Now I can only connect to my cameras and light control at night. Is there a way to troubleshoot this without getting a new fixture?

    It is crucial to be aware that Wyze cameras exclusively operate on a 2.4GHz frequency, which can pose difficulties for individuals unaware of this requirement or whose routers do not offer that option.

    Can you try setting this up with a Wyze Outdoor Cam and let us know the results? I know the website says it is not compatible but has it been tried?

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the reason they say it isn’t compatible is that the camera is the network interface to the sockets and has to be on all the time to work. Even when the socket bulb is off the camera has power via usb. The cam outdoor goes to sleep to save battery when there is no motion so they probably never coded the app support for it.
      I recently got the V3 Pro to run with the socket, but the app only lets you set it up and not directly control it right now.

  • @khalid.y

    Nice review and cool setup!
    Do you know if the sockets can communicate peer to peer or does each socket have to have a direct connection to the wifi router? My front door light is just barely within wifi range, so I suspect the two light just a bit farther out flanking the garage (which are on a brick wall) might just be out of reliable wifi range. I can’t really justify a wifi extender just for those two lights, but if the sockets help I’d install them.
    Thanks!

    • @TheNetGuy
      @TheNetGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. I know one socket and one v3 camera can control three light so my guess is low energy Bluetooth or private 900mhz band between them. May try one closest to your Wi-Fi and the rest further away. 👍

      @@robadair7227 how many switches control the lights? As long as you are replacing a single switches the number of lights it turns on usually doesn’t matter (I have 26 ceiling lights on 3 switches). You’ll also want to see if you have green/bare, black and white wires in the switch box.

    I love Wyze products but this one is one of Wyze's not so well thought out products. It sucks that this socket can ONLY be use with Wyze cam V3. According to customer service reps, you can't use Wyze cam v2, can't use Wyze outdoor v2, can't use Wyze pan cam, etc. ONLY CAM V3. Sucks.

    Ok lets make this clear. You must connect at least one cam to a socket to make it work. Other wyze, no pun intended, the sockets by them selfs are worth less. You cannot use the socket by them selfs to turn on/off lights. Not too Wyze!
