What’s amazing about Street Fighter 4 3DS is that if you disable the 3D in the game’s settings, it will boost the frame rate to 60FPS instead of the 30FPS that it runs out of the box. That makes the game even MORE impressive of a launch title.

Rayman 3D (and many other ubi titles) had awfully loud audio. If you used the 3DS' own speakers, you had to reduce the ingame audio settings down to 10-15% or it sounded like it was about to blow out the speakers.
Bust a Move, Pilot Wings and Street Fighter 4 especially gave you a LOT of playtime on the 3DS. Street Fighter 3D is probably one of the best beginner fighting games ever - it got me into fighting games since I sucked at button inputs.
Oh my, I remember waiting outside an EB Games for this one to drop with like maybe four other people and just kinda being disappointed deep down, but also loving the 3DS and all of the new features. I was also one of the few at my school who had one so I got many questions about it. I think the launch games I got were Pilotwings, Street Fighter, and Nintendogs. Although I remember spending much more time playing with the AR Cards, Face Raiders, and Streetpass Games. My city had a Streetpass meetup group too, and I remember the viral videos of the massive AR Cards as people learned that the bigger the card, the bigger the models, as well as learning that the card doesn't actually need to be in color for it to work. I eventually made my own massive B&W AR Card on foamcore, before getting the Club Nintendo one. Something about that period is very nostalgic to me, with the sense of discovery and wonder, as well as being young enough to be wowed by the features of it all. Streetpass is probably what I miss most, and while it didn't work the way Nintendo probably wanted since the 3DS wasn't as big as the DS, it brought people together.
You talking about Asphalt 3D basically mirrored my experience perfectly with Smuggler's Run. Launch game for the PS2, I didn't have much money so I ended up picking it up, it's a racing game that is...vaguely passable? I think it's probably better than Asphalt 3D at least, but it wasn't exactly winning any awards. I still busted it out every now and then just to have some variety in games I played.
I literally just got a 3ds end of last year and I’m starting to play through its immense library. Starting with soulsilver, platinum, and black 😬 I heard the Pokémon ds games are some of the best so I thought I would start there! (I know those are ds games, but I missed them)
I got SF4 3D on release day because I was into the console version at that time. It was a fine... I replayed that game so much since I was not interested with any other 3DS game, so at that time I was either replaying SF4 3D for months, or I was fiddling around with the MP3 player/AR Cards for the hundredth time. To make the 3DS launch even sadder for me, I was the only kid in my class to get it. Literally the only kid, that's how expensive and unpopular this thing was in 2011. I loved my 3DS either way, it was a futuristic version of the DSi that continued my love for Nintendo's portables.
He was kind of down on them, and I didnt play these at launch but I later went back to Samurai Warriors Chronicles, and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars and both of those are pretty good games. Samurai Warriors is a lot more of a classic warriors experience, and like he said it is slower, but its also a little harder and more about map control than objectives which is something I really liked about it. Shadow Wars felt cheap from a presentation standpoint, but I thought it had good map design, and interesting unit types. It was something I really enjoyed. Both of these arent amazing by any means, but they hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you for shouting out revelations on the 3ds for how amazing it is. I consider it the unofficial sequel to code Veronica. It’s crazy how good it looks on the hardware. It was one of the first games I bought when I finally was able to afford a 3ds and I was disappointed that every other game I got was nowhere near it lol.
When I got my 3dsXL on launch day (notice the XL), I had enough money for Dinosaurs3D or Monkey ball. Me and my brother reasoned monkey ball would be better, as we recognized the brand (we didn't know anything else), but my father butted in saying that Dinosaurs would probably be more impressive in 3D than a cartoon monkey in a ball. We got Dinosaurs 3D that day, and according to my activity log, I played it for 11 hours. Without looking it up, all I remember was that it is extremely basic, like a version of punch-out where the opponents only ever do 3 things and you need to do the right out of 3 options. Also, you can fight a secret enemy called "Broko-Lee", a martial arts knowing vegetable.
I remember getting the 3DS at launch. I had saved up all of the money I had saved mowing lawns from the previous summer in anticipation. I was too young to be disappointed with the launch, but got a ton of mileage out of Asphalt 3D. I’m glad I have the Ambassador Program to forever cement my first major financial “investment.”
Honestly it feels like there's enough content to this for it to have been basically been a Scot the Woz episode, but I'm sure you have a bunch of other concepts for main channel videos
having owned an original 3ds since launch… yeah the games that came out at launch were pretty subpar. i played steeldiver for all of just like 30 minutes to an hour before i got bored of it, i honestly think my dad got it for himself more than me (?)
I remember it was the April 5th (2011) and I was like the first person in my area to get the 3ds. It was in the shiny blue colour and I still have it to this day. Although I was only 8 at the time, my Nan helped me and my sister buy it along with two games. Those ended up being rabids travel in time and Nintendogs. It’s crazy to me that was 12 years ago now but the system still holds up and will always be a favourite.
I bought the 3ds on release. It's hard to look back and see how limited the options were with how successful it was after. I remember just waiting for something to play. People were recommending pilot wings and steel diver. Ocarina of time was the first game I remember thinking justified my purchase.
Pilotwings is unironically one of my fav 3DS games. Very chill time. Should’ve been bundled like Wii sports considering the launch price and lack of launch features. Plus it had one of the best 3D effects on the 3DS in general
He really didn’t mention the local multiplayer in steeldiver? My best memories of the 3Ds are with that. A little strategy game with combat it was a fun cat and mouse mode thing.
The 3DS was my first console that was completely mine (the Wii was the family’s) so it will always have a special place in my heart (even if it was 2016 3 years before it was discontinued and got in a car accident picking up my grandpa on my 7th birthday)
Sorry I messed up the accident was on my 6th birthday those 2 were just kinda a blur to me because aside from the obvious there basically the same things
I bought the 3DS in Cosmo Black on launch. My late grandpa took me and four of my friends to GameStop. Then we all went to the Steak n Shake next door for lunch. We passed the 3DS around, and my 75 year old grandpa got to experience real 3D for the first time. His smile was so big. The 3DS was absolutely awful at launch. I started playing it more when the XL came out, but now that my grandpa is gone, that day is one of my happiest gaming memories.
I don’t quite get the criticism of Pilotwings Resort. It was a solid 20-30 hours or so to get through all of the missions with 3 stars, then open up the extra missions, then 100% the scavenger hunt stuff on the free fly mode. I can see myself coming back again to try to get perfect scores on the missions. I thought that was basically what Pilotwings was always about-getting good scores on the missions.
I still remember when this came out. Gamestop had a deal where you could trade in your dsi for like 50 bucks off. I later learned you could transfer dsi games to the 3ds and was real sad cause I lost the ones I bought.
Every single time I see Dillon's Dead Heat Breakers on Scott's 3DS menu I'm like "Just cover the entire series." Heck I want scott to cover a ton of 3DS series of games, maybe the PSVita in the future to.
I remember getting my 3DS at my local store’s midnight launch. I picked up Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Nintendogs + Cats. I ended up winning a raffle so I got my 3DS for free. I also picked up Ridge Racer afterwards because it was cheap and there was time to kill until Zelda came out lol. Street Fighter was really fun.
Extremely critical but still a wonderful video about the launch titles of my second favorite system of all time. You gave SFIV it's deserved props, and name dropped KH at the end so I'm a happy camper. ;] GANBARE scott!
I like when Scott has to repeat himself, he doesn't just brush off topics and say "I've already covered this in a video, so I will not be talking about it here. Let's move on." Something like Asphalt 3D he's talked about it before so he could very easily just be lazy and not talking about it, but I'm glad he reiterates his points and talks about it again because not everyone has heard him talk about it before or they don't remember everything.
i had no clue until this day that Bust a Move was the original version of those color match games where you launch orbs at other orbs, when i had previously thought it must be a dance game because of the title. i was REALLY confused that they put it on the 3ds until that was cleared up lol
It's funny you mentioned Steel Diver feeling like a side mode or minigame because the two 3DS Sonic BOOM games did exactly that, you've got these yellow terminals Tails can hack, and the hacking minigame is a BLATANT Steel Diver knock off, but using button and stick controls instead of the touch screen. So at least that's one thing Sonic BOOM Shattered Crystal did right...
I really like the New 2DS XL, personally. It's lightweight and much more comfortable to use. The speaker placement really is the only downgrade that comes to mind, though you could use headphones to remedy that.
Technically, for me, the best 3DS launch title was Ocarina of Time 3D. Does that count? RIP 3DS eShop, and by proxy, the 3DS. You were so much fun, and Animal Crossing is still my most played game, followed by Smash.
I was an early adopter! I got my 3DS in May 2011 when I traded in my DS lite and something like 10 games to GameStop to get the price knocked down. I loved it as a 10 year old - there was something so intriguing about the built-in software that kept me going until I got my first 3DS game, OoT 3D - which also became the first game I ever beat. I was also super excited to get the 10 NES and 10 GBA games in August when they announced the price cut.
Out of all of the launch titles I've only played Asphalt 3D, Pilotwings, Street fighter 4, and Super Monkey Ball 3D. 9 year old me would've gave each of them a 100/100
The night it launched, my Best Buy had a special event. They had models there with 3DS consoles wired to them that you could demo (I kid you not- they were attached to the women with wires). They had wheel spins and skill games you could play to try to win free 3DS games and Best Buy gift cards. I won the Ghost Recon game, and my friend won a $50 BBY gift card. I still have the 3DS drawstring backpack they gave us.
Ah, the 3DS launch. Good times. Still have my original model, even though I'm not the collecting type. This was weirdly enough, my main introduction to Street Fighter, and now, I'm a Fighting Game guy. I was also super enamored with the included AR cards.
It's funny how this and the Vita hit a lot of the same notes with the launches. Asphalt, Ridge Racer, Super Monkey Ball, Dynasty Warriors, a Rayman port...
Despite the objective quality and retrospective narrative, I really enjoyed my time with the 3DS from day 1 and still look back on it fondly. Spent lots of time playing Ridge Racer and messing around with the AR etc. Don't recall feeling desperate for the big games to come out, I seem to remember Pokemon Black and White taking over my life for a good while
I remember not being interested in any of the 3DS games at launch. Just nothing appealed to me at the time, so I didn't bother getting a 3DS until games I was more interested in were released.
Rayman DS is actually Rayman 2 on N64... the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 (Rayman Revolution) are only available on those platforms actually and are different and unique in their own ways, my 2 favourite versions personally 🤷♂️ I'd probably say the Dreamcast one but I never had a Dreamcast and the 3DS Port of it has its slew of issues unfortunately 😞
I got the 3DS on day 1, and it was HORRIBLE. The price cut hurt a TON, but at least the Ambassador Program helped...a little...? Hard as hell to transfer to a new system, though. o7 Rest in peace, 3DS.
Honestly, the ghost recon game is pretty good if you're really looking for an XCOM styled game. Especially since at the time there was really a lack of that style of game. Is it great? No but honestly it's not a bad game by any stretch and worth a look if you enjoy that genre. Julian Gallop was one of the people on the project even.
Street Fighter IV 3D was my first game for the 3DS. It was a game I had dreamed of being portable, and Nintendo made it happen, thanks Capcom. The 3D in this game is one of my favorites, it even had a 3d fighting mode.
I got a 3DS at launch but didn't get any launch games. I just played Pokemon White on it. I imagine some people were doing the same. I only got Street Fighter 3D wayyy later when it was on sale or something. EDIT: I'd love an extended version of this episode going over lesser known stuff that came out in the first year. Shinobi 3D is criminally overlooked, and you have fairly solid stuff like Dead or Alive. EDIT2: I think Scott is pretty fair to Steel Diver here. Makes me interested in picking it up if I can find bargain bin prices again.
I got the 3DS at launch, my parents reserved the console for me as a late birthday present, so we picked it up after school along with Lego Star Wars. I think I played the built-in games way more than I did Lego Star Wars to be honest.
This was when I started getting annoyed by Reggie. He was doing his job and I understood that, but his emphasis on “launch window” extending from March through June was pushing it when the system launched with nothing of value. The biggest launch games were actually Pokémon Black and White 2 on the DS and Okamiden, which was a pretty impressive DS game. They were better than the actual 3DS offerings at launch (besides, debatably, Street Fighter IV)
What’s amazing about Street Fighter 4 3DS is that if you disable the 3D in the game’s settings, it will boost the frame rate to 60FPS instead of the 30FPS that it runs out of the box.
That makes the game even MORE impressive of a launch title.
Same with DOA
This is the first time i hear of a graphics setting in a 3DS game
I wanna know which Capcom staff member sold their soul to make their games look and run THAT good on a 3DS
So, hypothetically, the game is competitively viable.
Frames are really important in fighting games does that not change the game completely when you mess with the FPS?
It’s weird to finally see the 3ds era come to an official end. I’m only 20 but growing up on the 3ds and Ds family of consoles makes me feel old.

Not sure why but just seeing the cover of these launch games gave a lot of nostalgia
Ocarina of time was the first game I remember thinking justified my purchase.
love the super monkey ball music in the background
>shows and talks about Bust A Move on 3DS
>plays Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack music in the background
This just makes me regret bringing my 3DS in a Uber car since I lost it
Pilotwings is unironically one of my fav 3DS games. Very chill time. Should’ve been bundled like Wii sports considering the launch price and lack of launch features. Plus it had one of the best 3D effects on the 3DS in general
I've been loving your seccond channel as well as the influx of 3DS content
He really didn’t mention the local multiplayer in steeldiver? My best memories of the 3Ds are with that. A little strategy game with combat it was a fun cat and mouse mode thing.
The 3DS was my first console that was completely mine (the Wii was the family’s) so it will always have a special place in my heart (even if it was 2016 3 years before it was discontinued and got in a car accident picking up my grandpa on my 7th birthday)
Sorry I messed up the accident was on my 6th birthday those 2 were just kinda a blur to me because aside from the obvious there basically the same things
i never would've thought there would be a bust-a-move game with such little content
Every single time I see Dillon's Dead Heat Breakers on Scott's 3DS menu I'm like "Just cover the entire series."
Heck I want scott to cover a ton of 3DS series of games, maybe the PSVita in the future to.
Today is actually the 12th anniversary of when my first 3DS arrived in the mail from Amazon, which I got for $200, so this is good timing
Nice to see the regular videos are back
This video feels like a normal scott the woz video without the funny edit jokes. I like it and want more of this
Extremely critical but still a wonderful video about the launch titles of my second favorite system of all time. You gave SFIV it's deserved props, and name dropped KH at the end so I'm a happy camper. ;] GANBARE scott!
Finally he returns
If you want a good dino game play Fossil Fighters Champions on DS. Still one of my favorite original DS games.
This probably should have been a full Scott The Woz episode.
Oh boy a perfect scott stash video to gawk at unrelated pokemon 3ds stuff
I love that era of pokemon
I shed a tear thinking about the nintendo eshop
Out of all of the launch titles I've only played Asphalt 3D, Pilotwings, Street fighter 4, and Super Monkey Ball 3D. 9 year old me would've gave each of them a 100/100
The night it launched, my Best Buy had a special event. They had models there with 3DS consoles wired to them that you could demo (I kid you not- they were attached to the women with wires). They had wheel spins and skill games you could play to try to win free 3DS games and Best Buy gift cards. I won the Ghost Recon game, and my friend won a $50 BBY gift card. I still have the 3DS drawstring backpack they gave us.
i just realized that this was new video
Ah, the 3DS launch. Good times. Still have my original model, even though I'm not the collecting type. This was weirdly enough, my main introduction to Street Fighter, and now, I'm a Fighting Game guy. I was also super enamored with the included AR cards.
Rest in peace 3DS E-Shop, you will be missed old friend 😢 🙏
I bought mine for full price for my birthday in June & two months later the prices dropped… (Atleast I got those ambassador games tho)
“It’s stashing time “
- Scott the Woz
RIP the EShop 🙏 time to pirate
Street fighter 4 for the 3ds still blows my mind till this day its a damn technical achievement for capcom
I think a few launch titles had that lithograph cover. I remember seeing street fighter at a GameStop with a pretty cool one
Welcome Back Scott!
I would love to see this for other systems. Maybe not every other system, because it might be too much for some systems, but it would be cool
my 3ds brings a tears to my eyes.
Our man is back
I got to be a steeldivers enjoyer at launch
9:57 Scott! How could you?! You are the man who gives the BIGGEST damn about Madden 08 being a masterpiece and Madden 09 not.
This is one of my favourite Scott’s Stash videos
Damn this takes me back to the midnight launch
I got the 3DS at launch, my parents reserved the console for me as a late birthday present, so we picked it up after school along with Lego Star Wars.
I think I played the built-in games way more than I did Lego Star Wars to be honest.
Scott, I literally JUST picked up Pilotwings Resort a few hours ago, stop reading my noggin
4:56 nope even further back
The only launch title I had was steel diver, but I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid.
