@@danielstephenaguilos9346 welp, lets do some math. The imperium is about 1 or so million stars under its control. The cicadrix melidictum (i cant talk latin, but if ya never heard of it, imagine the buttcrack of terror tearing and splitting the galaxy in half.) Is MANY lightyears wide with thick points and narrow points. This has also seperated half the galaxy from the astronomican, meaning that ships cant travel between systems in the dark imperium and corruption taints quicker. So a third of the imperium is lost, give or take a fifth.
In the Black Legion, there exists those who were always there. Among these, were Malthus. Malthus had been in command of his Battleship since the Heresy. Countless times had he been cornered, only to escape. Countless times he had faced Orks, Eldar, the upstart Tau and many more foes. Entire races had been extinguished by him. But no enemy was more hated than the Imperium. During the Siege of Terra itself, he's ship, a gift from the Warmaster, had spilled death unto the loyalist fleet. Yet, like every other of the traitors back then, they'd been forced to flee. He had tried to hold out. To create some place for at least some of the traitorus forces to rally, so they might continue their attack. It didn't work. And thus started his obsession. His obsession to find some way to crack the spine of the Imperial fleets over his knee. Battle after battle, war after war. All was merely an opportunity to test new strategies and modify old ones. He served Abaddon, as the new Warmaster allowed him this freedom. And so it had gone for millennia. Malthus' knowledge had grown. He dominated space, seeding fear where he went. Until Spire. During the 12th Black Crusade, Malthus had lured in a battlegroup of Imperial warships. It had been a simple task really. Something akin to a sport than actual warfare. Or so he thought. The battlegroup he thought he had lured, had in reality been a distraction. Malthus' ship barely made it out of Spire's trap. And so it continued. Spire outperforming him at every turn. Until the retreat was finally called. Malthus' ancient ship was barely recognizable. Many dark worshippers on it took its survival as a sign from their dark gods. Malthus saw only luck. Luck had allowed him to survive this Spire. When the 13th Black Crusade smashed into Cadia, Malthus brought all of his knowledge to bear. His ship, now writhing and twisting with demonic flesh, spewed blood covered hooks before eating those ships who came to close. Malthus himself had become a part of the ship, feeling every point of it at once. He was the ship and it was him. There was no difference anymore. When Cadia fell, Malthus ancient face twisted into a grin as millions of tons of metal twisted to allow his fang covered maw to show his glee to those ships who still sought escape. In the Black Legion, there exists those who were always there. Among these, were Malthus. Malthus had been one with his ship since the 12th Black Crusade. Countless times he'd seen death in the eye and laughed. Countless times he'd felt entire ships crushed in his maw. Entire battlegroups had been eaten. No enemy was more hated than the Imperium. But when Spire's voice rang throughout Cadia, the ship that could not die, could not be defeated, could not be stopped, let out a scream. A scream of fear...
Spire was after the planet killer after the battle of 12th crusade ending. His return after cadia was nuked was unexpected because the warp was suddenly contained, allowing spire ship to return to normal space for the brief moment of stability the emperor beacon allowed them to forcefully get out of warp and into real space. They thought spire was too busy trying to find the planet killer through the warp, which had managed to escape his hands of destruction. Spire found where they operated their base at the edge of the emperor network, but his return to relay this intel was not possible due to the forces of chaos siege of cadia to destroy the pylons. The pylons were activated, which could be detected everywhere in the emperor network. However, the network failsafe when warp energy were being contained/dropping forcing an emergency exit to all ships in warp not located near where eye of terror/cadia to return to real space as safety within warp was lost due to loss of energy the warp provides. They were never expecting the necron pylons to free spire from the warp that trapped him. His transmission must of shocked them after cadia was nuked because they knew he had intel to where they came from to allow a force to enter the eye of terror without getting lost in warp. Imperial forces were forced to flee due to holding survivors from that planet they had to escape with.
I like how when you play any other race narrator tells how shitty situation really is while when playing as Imperium you hear literally imperial propaganda xd
Pretty sure the canon gothic war was won by killing the Planet Killer with volley after volley of torpedoes from Lunars. Which incidentally is exactly what I did in the campaign last time. The Luna class is not to be underestimated, it's the solid backbone of any good fleet.

@@waryeer2553 What's ironically funny about that is that later in the campaign you have to choose between two in-fighting groups of space marines and the only context that we have to go on is that one of them has oddly outdated friend or foe id coeds.
@@infinitestateautomaton1842 Encryption codes must be changed on a regular basis or you might as well not be using any at all. 10,000 years is more than enough time for the enemies of the Emperor to decrypt Imperial transmissions. They aren't made to be everlasting; it's just a disposable random combination of symbols that is supposed to be exchanged just often enough to minimise or completely eliminate the enemy's chance of ever achieving a full decryption.

THIS ISN'T OVER!" You almost can't believe it, a war hero from the past whose tactics were used as a basis for teaching you in school, missing for centuries suddenly showing up. "Captain, we have repaired the warp engine and the Astropath reports that the storm has cleared. What are your orders?" -"Make way to 1.5.4-5.5.4."
Crewman: "Admiral, we've been lost in the Warp for 800 years, Cadia has been destroyed by Abaddon the Despoiler, the Imperium is in chaos and Chaos is invading everything" Spire: "Oh no. Anyway"

You know...Warhammer 40K is the "battle for survival". All the atrocities the Empire commits are necessary so the human race can even survive. But I just realized...this is a question of perspective. If you turn around the perspective: The universe has to throw literally everything it has against humanity to not get conquered by it. But even together, the armadas of Chaos, the hordes of Orks, the Eldar, re-awakened Necrons and even the Tau and Tyranids are barely enough to contain the Empire of Men. @Andrew Gray did the 13th actually destroy a THIRD of the MOTHERFUCKING IMPERIUM? that overbloated, huge ass empire? I thought they just got cadia
Glorious

@@infinitestateautomaton1842 Encryption codes must be changed on a regular basis or you might as well not be using any at all. 10,000 years is more than enough time for the enemies of the Emperor to decrypt Imperial transmissions.
