    Cameron didn't just want the alien derelict to look different. He needed a reason to explain why the warning beacon was no longer transmitting, otherwise the colonists would have discovered it immediately.
    So the ship was shown to have been severely damaged by volcanic activity, although this was only shown in the director's cut.

      In the game Alien isolation, another salvage team finds the ship. They don't want no one else to find their salvage so they turned off the beacon. In the heavy metal comic book Adaptation version Dallas turns off the beacon.

    Thanks. I like the theory that the people David killed on LV-223 were another "test" species, and not the actual Engineer Civilization. What do you think?

    • @jotr.9786
      @jotr.9786 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't see the point of the engineers they don't fit the world of alien, and by that I mean you can clearly see that they are not created by the same person who created alien. They're to humanoid, also the alien queen just made the whole aspect less alien, as referencing to insects to much with which we are familiar and introduced and old familiar concept instead of something alien and new.

    • @maxumuskohany6580
      @maxumuskohany6580 หลายเดือนก่อน

      David never Killed the engineers, nor was the sub species ever on Lv 223 either. Lv 223 was only a test site or production site for the black goo. He was supposed to fly to engineers home world but found another product of the engineers the “ sub species” somewhere else. Probably because it wouldn’t make sense that the engineers would ever let a space ship of mass destruction ever come close to one of their systems

However ,I still enjoyed them for the simple fact that as long as Ridley is making them they will always be entertaining & id rather have something then nothing! Engineers is the way to go moving forward & David is an awesome addition , ridley needs to get the next film out , remaining engineers target David !

    They are after the alien so badly yet they have access to all the goo a stone's throw away. Shrinks the universe a bit being so close, that's because in Prometheus it was meant to be lv426 and they decided to make it lv223.

    I was thinking about this. The Prometheus mission never found the beacon emanating from the derelict on LV-426 even the fact LV-223 is orbiting Calpamos, too. The only answer that came to my mind is the derelict wasn't there. Probably the pilot was infected by the creature many many years ago (maybe thousands of years) while the ship was travelling across the space and by chance it crashed on LV-426 AFTER what we watched on Prometheus. We watched on Alien that it was a huge hole close to the pilot's chair made by acid. I think this hole was provoked by the pilot's last effort on killing the creature he was gestating (remember engineers are quite resilient and hard bodied). This could explain why the Nostromo crew never found the fully developed xenomorph dormant and waiting for a prey. Also, that acid penetrated the derelict's hull so the whole atmosphere was lost in space drying off the pilot's corpse and made it to look fossilised and not rotten.

    It occured to me that both moons orbited the same planet also. But with Dr. Shaw having visited various planets looking for the engineers home planet, I think that the moon should be elsewhere. That both moons orbit a ringed planet may have been chosen by the engineers because of an attraction for ringed worlds, or some other reason .

      @John Norris - edited: tl;dr - LV-223 was not habitable at all.
      Do you remember Special Order 937?
      "Priority one
      "Insure return of organism for analysis.
      "All other considerations secondary.
      "Crew expendable."
      Let's ignore the fact that Ridley Scott stupidly claimed that LV-223 was orbiting the same planet as LV-426, that this was retroactively shoehorned into existing canon and that none of this makes any sense at all. At least recognize the potency of Special Order 937 and Ash's determination to steer the crew into accomplishing his goals of securing the xenomorph. "All other considerations secondary," would pretty much imply that Ash, with MOTHER's help, would shepherd the crew into making sure that all of their attentions were focused on that beacon on LV-426, and that they were going to land on that planetoid, come hell or high water. I don't think that it's a stretch to say that Ash and MOTHER already knew that the beacon was, in fact, a warning. Let's also remember that LV-223 was ***NOT INHABITABLE***. The crew of the Prometheus was never seen outside of their environment suits until they were inside of the "temple." Remember that line about the carbon dioxide being at 3.8%, much higher than Earth's CO2 being at 0.039%, and how that scientist said that it would be like breathing through an exhaust pipe? There was nothing remarkable about LV-223 that would have distracted the crew from Special Order 937. Details of Prometheus's failure would either have been purposefully obfuscated so that Weyland-Yutani could take their time with a more comprehensive exploration later on and not worry about corporate competition, or people just kind of forgot that Peter Weyland died on LV-223.

    And also ships travelling that distance in very less time ?
    Warp drive like technology ?
    By simple calculations , LV-426 is 181.44 billion kilometres away from Earth.... Almost 2 percent the distance of a Light Year....

      In the alien covenant novel its said that the engineers created a similar alien already. All David did was use a Human, instead of an engineer, it turns out, Humans have a unique reaction with the goo and we get the xenos like in the later movies. Its hinted in the movies...kinda, in a short film ridley put out called "the crossing", David mentions learning from the engineers from their "computers" on the derelict. I bet, he learns of the "process" here as well.

    There is some written error about the size of LV 426, based on the movie Prometheus and the late script by the revised version revealed that LV 426 is not a tiny planetoid that has 1200 km diameters(Lamber reports it in the first movie before the crew approaches it), actually a gas giant and similar to our earth in size, some speculation suggest that LV 426 size is even closer to 120K km diameters, closes to the Jupiter in our solar star system.

      He created his own version of what they had with the gold goo in the beginning of the movie with the black goo. They were running out of the original blood of the deacon, the original alien (the gold goo) and when they ran out they created the black goo ( a synthetic version of the gold goo)
      The gold goo creates life, the black creates death. David wanted to prove he could created an advanced form of life and used the black goo and engineered his own version of the life forms

    Acheron? Calpamos? I noticed Ridley Scott uses a lot of religious mythology for his ALIEN movies. "Covenant", like a written contract or agreement, but between who in this case?. Planet named after "purgatory place where souls travel". "Prometheus" - rebellious and audacious thief of God's knowledge. It's all Greek/Christian mythology. So what do the Aliens themselves represent then? If Ripley plays the Christ-like savior? What are the aliens themselves? We also see the personification of Judas throughout the ALIEN universe. Where a person or android betrays the group. Ash in the first Alien. Burke in the second. David represents the son of Abraham, whom commits adultery and sleeps with his friend's wife. This part might hurt some folks, and i say it with caution...
    The aliens themselves could represent the Jews that went after Christ. Look carefully at the movies. They were relentless, hungry, determined. Think "Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson. She dies at the end of part 3, like Jesus. A Heroic death. Then in part 4-like the Bible usually claims-Ripley/Jesus is resurrected and she once again comes back to cleanse our sins.

    Hello Sci-Fi Explained guy!
    at 2:10 we see the original Geiger Space Jocky seated in / fused to his pilot contraption where he supposedly becomes one with the juggernaut space ship. Cool and original idea and one that is perhaps amonst the best in the Sci-Fi genre.
    How can any one say that these Space Jocky species are the same as the so-called 'enginners' ? In the opening scene inside the derilect, we see the landing party parctically dwarfed next to the pilot (I know they used kids in space suits to get this practical effect). That Space Jocky looks no where near like what the Prometheus engineer looks like, The head, face, neck, the elephentine trunk and the dimension of the entire body make this creature about 2-3 times as massive as a human!
    What a pitty R.Scott had to ruin the magic of this original story line with that stuff which lacks originality, coherence or imaggination.

      And by the way genius, any moron could tell the difference between a"fossilized" and non-fossilized object. You don't have to be a "scientist". I learned about fossilized wood in grade school. Pick up a piece of fossilized wood sometime, you can easily tell it's actually a rock.

      And more to the point, the "Space Jockey" would become mummified not fossilized. Fossilization happens in a completely different manner. An abandoned Juggernaut and its contents could only become fossilized under very different circumstances. But either way, the original Alien movie does not match up with the current Ridley Scott prequels. Pity.

    I love parts of the Alien Universe, mainly around Alien, Alien Isolation, a bit of Aliens and a bit of Prometheus.
    Prometheus, however, and especially Covenant have created issues though and completely drifted away from the Alien story with the creator nonsense.
    Why not stick to the theme and tell the story from a Weyland Yutani perspective or make a story about the Space-Jockey? They could have gone much deeper into the topic fo Alien and what made it so successful. I dont even understand the monetary motivations. Surely there are enough people who would get hyped for something a bit closer to the original.
    For the moon itself, I like that Isolation picks up on it. Isolation as a movie would have been great. But probably that's just me though.

    • @RikerLovesWorf
      @RikerLovesWorf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      riquelmeone Agreed. The whole plot line the Prometheus set up and Covenant followed up on is trash. It was so much cooler and creepier when the space jockey was a mystery and the aliens were an unknown entity. Hell, I’d argue the extended universe before the black goo storyline was cooler when it was a total mystery where the aliens came from.

      I'm afraid the term biomechanical is actually nonsense it seems.
      Just because it looks like metal, or a device, or even bones, it doesn't mean that it's biomechanical. It's mechanical when it got actual mechanical parts which even humans have plenty of.
      It's more like insectoid in the movies. And metal insectoid in the arts. Because of its exo skeleton like structure. Maybe there is even a better term. Because when people think of insectoid they think of antennas and fly eyes instead of a hive minded two mouthed extra terrestrial super predator with extreme acidic blood.

      Actually, the individual stars in that binary star system are known as Zeta 1 Reticuli (ζ1 Ret) and Zeta 2 Reticuli (ζ2 Ret). In real life, Zeta 2 Reticuli has a pancake-shaped debris disc orbiting it instead of planets. The distance between Zeta 1 and Zeta 2 are around 3,700 AU (AU = astronomical unit; a single AU is 149,597,870,700 meters - the distance between the Earth and the Sun.) So, yes, it was factually accurate for Lambert to have reported, "I found it, just short of Zeta2 Reticuli. We haven't reached the Outer Rim yet."

    Why didn't the company send the nostromo to lv233. I was disappointed with prometheus, modern science doesn't support the idea of a creator. I wish the jockey was andvanced A.I part organic, Searching the galaxy for any signs of life to add it to the genome of the xenomorph DNA sequence. It visited earth in the distant past collected human specimens dissolved them and added their DNA to the black goo. How else would a facehugger be compatible with humans, just the right size to fit a human head and all. When it all went wrong it evacuated our system at speed and somehow ended up on LV 426. The jockey, sent out by some ancient and powerful civilisation to create the perfect organism containing every sentient life in the galaxy's genetic coding. Once compleat it would return with its valuable cargo. The civilisation would then create a race of xenomorphs, powerful and diverse. they would unleash them on their enemies in an all mighty civil war that's been raging around the galactic core for millennia.

    I wish Ridley Scott would explain once and for all what was his idea behind theses terrible movies...
    For me, all that “Prometheus” mess looks like his revenge to the franchise... Him stating: “Alien” wasn’t meant to have sequels at all!
    Unexpectedly there appeared some idiots claiming that “Prometheus” was great. So asked by profit motivated company to make another one, he went classical “hold my beer” and spawned even worse “Alien: Covenant”.
    This is the only logical explanation for why these movies were filmed at all.

  • @MichaelAnderson-ir7hz
    @MichaelAnderson-ir7hz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ash describes LV-426 as "...deep cold...way below the line..." Black goo does not move moons, or the planets they orbit, farther from their host star. Don't care what some author fantasizes. The derelict crashed, mostly like because a chest-burster killed the pilot. Planet for experiments? Hard to imagine how that would work. {smh}

    • @scifiexplained
      @scifiexplained  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what???? who said goo moved anything? only said that the prequel films list lv-426 as a test site for the substance. Works just fine, don't know what is so confusing?

    • @MichaelAnderson-ir7hz
      @MichaelAnderson-ir7hz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LV-426 is deep cold, receives little solar radiation, suffers high winds, has an atmosphere that is ostensibly toxic, and has a high rotational speed. Probably should be tide-locked to its host planet. Whatever.
      These factors impair scientists. You would need beefier equipment. Risks to the health of your own kind would be very high. Little to no impact was obvious to the facehuggers.
      It would make more sense to use a sterile planet or moon as a test site. More solar radiation is a power source. Higher gravity doesn't require silly movement tricks such as the astronaut hop. No wind means grit insinuates itself into equipment less aggressively. It should present itself as at least as tough a barrier to spreading anything escaping from a lab.
      So, if one wished to use LV-426 as a test site, it makes more sense only if LV-426 were closer to its host star. Aliens is a fun movie, but screws the pooch here. No amount of atmosphere engineering will take a frozen moon and transform it into one that people can walk around on the surface without vacc suits.

Alien Covenant teased xenomorphs being self-aware, especially through David's interaction with the neomorph, and therefore it makes sense for the sequel to complete this journey.
