Happy New Year @Jamel_AKA_Jamal I'm glad you decided to trust all of us who suggested this performance and give it a listen/look. It's awesome to see Janis singing with someone who can match her intensity.
@@WhiteCamry I think he did a pretty good job vocally. Janis was supposedly shocked at how good Tom was, dismissed him because of his image but it was a different story when she sang with him, she had no idea Tom could scream.
What I love most about this is that they are both clearly having the time of their lives. Tom seems so psyched to be performing with Janis, and she is just loving getting to sing with him.
Tom Jones gave Janis Joplin what she always needed; a great backing band. Joplin worked best with equally talented people. Big Brother, while solid, weren’t on her level. This band is hot, dead in her zone. And Tom complements and pushes her to new levels. She gave her all on this. Her gratitude radiates.
When Janis left Big Brother she burnt many bridges. Even the entertainment media we're less than supportive. It wasn't exactly a win-win for Janis, but she endured, well, at least until her most untimely repose.

Happy New Year to you and yours........and everyone who watches. "May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door." Peace💖💖💖💖💖
You don't usually see this kind of charged spirit onstage between two vocalists very often, usually performers give off "we were forced to be together" vibes and they stick to their own separate part. But here Janis is being her effervescent self, filling in all the silence while Tom tries so hard to follow her lead. She's really showing him how it's done! It's great to see them both having a blast. Janis even started grinding on the dance floor with him! The energy between them is wonderful.
80 year old Tom, sang live on a New Years eve programme earlier tonight, here in the UK.His stamina knows no bounds. Back in 99, he made an album of cover songs with other guest artists, called Reload. Worth a listen even if you don't react to it. A happy New Year to yourself, your good lady and all watching 🎉
Tom is often called the British Elvis (And the two were good friends) - he was a real sex symbol back in the day and had a string of big hits. Tom and Janis together... well, you could run the National Grid off their combined energy. If you want to hear more of Tom, try "It's not unusual".
Tom jammed with a lot of peeps. Even though he was more commercial and pop sounding, he was well respected. There is footage on TH-cam of Tom sitting in with Crosby-Still-Nash and even Jefferson Airplane.
Wow, I never saw that performance, that's fantastic! Janis and Tom Jones -- a revelation. Janis, though, she was something. And Jamel, that reaction ranks in my top 10 of your reactions -- maybe top 5. So. Much. Fun.
I saw Janis on August 23, 1968 (it was Friday night, Oh Yea!). It was at the Singer Bowl, left over from The 1964-65 World's Fair at Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, N.Y.C. (You don't forget things like this, children!). She showed out that night, after being proceeded by The Soft Machine, and The Chambers Brothers ! She had the whole crowd in her hand, and she worked it, Big Time! By the way, when she left the stage she was followed by THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE!!!
My favorite outfit to wear back in the day was purple bell bottoms a poncho with bright yellow and orange flowers with a turtleneck pullover under it. Shag haircut and a BIG peace sign on a chain you could knock somebody out with around my neck. 💖💖💖💖 ✌

Janis Joplin had the gift of radiating Pure Joy when she sang.
Mighta been the only time she felt that kind of joy! With a little help from her friend.

Tom and Janis, how could it get any better lol.
I don't think it can.
With jimi hendrix
MAYBE Tom and Aretha.
@@xianshep Tom and Aretha did a song. Tom wasn’t at his best.
Exactly the only thing that would make it better would be having Jimi Hendrix play guitar with them
I never would have thought I'd ever see Tom Jones being the one who was trying to keep up. That Janis had some pipes.
He almost looked intimidated by her, and certainly couldn't match her musical "soul"
The song was in the female key. Had TJ been singing it alone, it would have been a few octaves lower to suit the male voice.
