    I often relapse using meth, whenever I start using again my wife praises me for being so great around the house by doing my part of the chores and listening to her. So I get stuck in a loop of trying to regulate usage then it becomes a habit then my wife finds out and screams at me then doesn't understand why I used in the first place and all while hating myself that I'm using in the first place.

      ADHD Management Thanks! I am a huge DBZ fan. Yeah, I’m pretty sure alcohol is the most common form of self-medication, not only amongst us with ADHD, but even the general population.

    As someone who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, my past is all making sense now. My partner used to ask me if I so morally believe taking drugs is wrong and it isn't who I am, why I did it. I really didn't have an answer. Now I see it was due to ADHD impulsivity and dopamine seeking. I would not think in the moment and fell into the habits of caffeine, smoking, alcohol and cocaine. I feel diagnoses can be so important as now I have insight into why I behaved the way I did, I can now learn from it and reduce chances of being in that position again. ADHD is never an excuse per say but having awareness of it is life changing. Thanks for the great video!

      also the moderation of substance use. I found with myself, with alcohol for example, I could go months without drinking it but the moment I would I went overboard. At the end of the night as others went home, I would get a sinking feeling that it would have to stop. Ooh and followed by days of low feelings.

    Twelve step groups are absolutely worth investigating.
    They work a whole lot better than sitting at home, waiting for a flash of divine inspiration that never materialises.
    The worst thing that's going to happen after a meeting, is no worse than what was going to happen anyway.
    Just keep showing up.
    There's no secret to it.

    When I was 16 or 17 it began with sleeping tablets, then later progressed to codeine and then I became a huge binge drinker and smoker for a number of years. It later moved onto weed and then my biggest vice which is benzos. I was addicted for 10 years, cycling through some tough times in life which exacerbated the usage and turned into a living nightmare. I had withdrawals, I was so incredible unwell. I was miserable and I was buying them illegally and in huge amounts, I put myself into debt because of my addiction. I am finally getting an assessment for ADHD in a month, due to my friends who have ADHD saying that they think I have it and a strong family history of it, with my sister just being diagnosed at 30. I'm looking forward to seeing if this self medication has a reason and to finally, at 29 years old, live a life worth living and one that I am proud of.

    For me if I go out and drink 8 times our of 10 I end up on a huge binge..That takes me days to recover from and I'm filled with self regret etc and my life is unmanageable and then to combat the binge ill work out at the gym obsessively all week and eat well etc..And then sooner or later the cycle returns..Over and over and over..

    • @Sevisija
      @Sevisija 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel you man, I have had the same cycle and am still not out of it. Since I am on meds the cravings are less intens but I do have to work out to get rid of the excess energy. Also now I still have this logic that a party without drinking is not fun. These old habits and thought patterns need to go. It does get better with age when you get to know yourself. Moderate drinking just doesnt seem a option for someone with ADHD. Its always everything or nothing. Stay strong mate you will find a way out of that dirty little circle, i'm sure.

    I’ve daily’d 2x 10mg adderall, smoked ~6 times a day, drank coffee, smoked weed, and drank alcohol for years. I’m only 25 but this feels like a one way ticket to heart disease, which my grandpa (I believe he was adhd) died from and it was not pretty. I know I need to change now to save myself. Caffeine seems like the low hanging fruit and I’ve reduced that to just drinking tea which seems reasonable. I think it’s time for the smokes and alcohol, I think I’ll use weed to get through the hard part then hopefully reduce that too.

    Substance abuse runs in my family. I started smoking cigarettes, had my first alcoholic drink and smoked marijuana all at age 13. I started drinking coffee at 10. I am now 36, I dont drink alcohol and never had an issue with it. But I do have a nicotine and coffee addiction. I still smoke weed but I'm not dependent on it.

    When I heard that one, I understood (if I didn't already) why I went to NA (and other fellowships too) meetings as well.

    No doubt it's alcohol for me and it's ruining my life the feeling I get when I drink it my wife just don't understand well she does but she doesn't like it. I live in the UK and it's a 2-year waiting this to get an assessment for ADHD I just paid £1,700 to go private I get tested in February hopefully medication can change my life. Thanks for the information you just gained the subscriber👍. Quick question when I get my medication will it stop my desire for drinking? Oh and I'm 39 years old 🙈.

    • @journeytowellness7096
      @journeytowellness7096  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey my friend! I’m glad you’re working tomorrow getting the help you need. I can imagine it’s extremely difficult to admit alcohol is a problem in your life, so good on you for recognizing it, but more importantly, taking the steps to win that battle. If and when you do get some form of ADHD medication, I wouldn’t expect it to stop your desire for drinking. However, it should help you in other aspects of daily living. When it comes to quitting any kind of substance, my understanding is that a support group, such as Alcohol Anonymous (AA) is the best place to start. It may be a challenging journey, but one well worth taking. Good luck, I wish you the best!
