    Hello guys, always love your show. As you mentioned running in the Winter in Canada does get tricky. But it’s still worth it, even in the cold or snow. Anna I think that you would be awesome at the 4-4-48 challenge! 👍

    I am a Canadian follower and love the channel. Winter running where I live (Hamilton, Ontario) can be tricky in the Winter. Aside from the sub zero temperatures we also have the added challenge of ice/black ice and a lot of snow. In warmer months I run on trails which can be very difficult in the winter. Winter running often consists of roads and hills. I love night-time winter running especially after or during a snow falls. It's quiet and you seldom see anyone aside from fellow runners or dog walkers. I am currently training for the oldest road race on the continent called Around the Bay here on Hamilton. It takes place in March and will be my longest run ever once I complete it. I would love it if you could highlight this amazing event on the channel for all to see.

      Do it! I'm thinking of doing it for my 31st birthday in June. Getting in ultramarathon shape now, so pretty confident I can finish. Yikes, your conversation does make me realize it will be hot....
      My question about logistics: Do you have to start at the top of every fourth hour (0, 4, 8, 12, 16...) ? Or, Can I start at midnight, then sleep until 6 or 7 AM and run the next 4 miles between 7 and 8, then the third set sometime between 8 and 12. I want my sleep!

    • @danmunnery6951
      @danmunnery6951 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Taylor Layton Unfortunately, it's every 4 hours, on the hour! So expect to only get 2 and a half to 3 hours of sleep max 😴 Good luck though if you do attempt the challenge 👍🏼

    Living in the upper Midwest, USA, we don't have a choice but to run in below zero weather this time of year. The key is to wear good socks, ski gloves, fleece leggings, layers, a good jacket lined with fleece or fur, a buff that covers the mouth, nose and neck, a warm hat and a pair of ski goggles. _No exposed skin_ . Otherwise, breathing in the crisp air is refreshing! Not recommended for those with exercise induced asthma. Cold weather can be a trigger. You all aren't wearing hats outside over there. How cold does it get in the UK?

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for all the great insight and advice for running in cold weather! It gets to about -4 here in the south of the UK, but colder in the North and Scotland

  • @captainharrr

    I am a French-Canadian follower and love the channel. Winter running can be tricky in the Winter (I am from Quebec City). Of course the sub zero temperatures (in Quebec City the average temperature is -25C during winter) and the ice are added challenges. But there are also a lot of bright sides! The "crunchy" sound of snow when I run is a personal favorite.
    Personally, I find running in the snow to be an amazing workout. It improved my running technique by forcing me to put my foot down flat so I didn't slip (I tended to put my heel first). Also, because the snow makes me lose a lot of grip and propulsion, running during spring and summer feels unbelievably light and fast! It's a delightful contrast!
    **As English is not my native language, please excuse any grammatical errors** :)

    I ran the 4×4×48 challenge during the August bank holiday last year as part of my training for the London marathon in October and to add to my fundraising target. I raised £900 of the minimum £2k within the 48 hour period, and on the 1st day had a to finish a job hanging oak doors for a customer (I'm a carpenter) between the legs so it was done by the deadline. Go Anna!! You should attempt it this year!!

    I do 3 runs a week (2 of them at 4 miles (6.5KM) with a tempo and interval) the 3rd run is my long run at 8 miles (13km) -- I think you need the LONG run to surpass the mileage of your shortest runs -- no matter how fast you do the shorter ones --- just my opinion

    Nice to see the Arahi get a look in, they’re often ignored by other TH-camrs but I’ve been wearing them for almost two years (went through three pairs of the 4 and on my second pair of the 5) and they’ve been fantastic for me. I suffer with plantar fasciitis, and also over pronate, and the Arahi have enough cushion that I can run daily without pain, and also the stability to keep patella femoral pain syndrome away. I love them, and haven’t found any other trainer that ticks every box like these do.

    January and February can get pretty cold here in my part of the US. I like to set myself a challenge that I call “Outrun the Temperature” where you run more miles than what the temperature is at the start. Last Saturday I managed to run 8 miles when the temperature was 7F (-13.8C). Great way to get you out there running when you really don't want to.

At the 1996 Olympics he winners of the 100m and 200m both set world records. NIce to actually see you out on a run. Anna, definately go for it. I done the 4x4x48 last year. Incredibly hard but very much worth it. Grab the other presenters to help you with your overnight runs. The midnight and 4am runs are the hardest. Sleep when you can, eat sensibly. Don't run too fast, slow it down and conserve energy. A big mistake is to run fast to get it over with and have more recovery time. It works the other way

    I have created my own challenge for 2022. It is to run a half marathon every month. 1 down, 11 to go!

    For these kinds of questions it's always helpful to consider the extremes.
    Does running a marathon have the same effect on you as running 100 meters a day for 422 consecutive days?

    It looks like the lace tying is slightly wrong, which is a common mistake. You can tell because it looks like the lace is sitting naturally front to back, but it should be left to right. As well as not looking as nice, the knot is weaker and more prone to untying.
    The runners knot part of the lace tying is fine (aka heel lock), but apparently most people learnt to tie shoe laces wrong.
    To fix, either swap the left over right of the initial basic knot, or tie the loops in the opposite direction. Easy to say, but hard to do it you've done it your whole life the other way around. There are many TH-cam videos on this.

    • @runningchannel

      Good question Wendy! It's all very individual and depends a lot on the length of your run. It's always a good idea to drink water before you head off though. How long are you planning on running for?

      After for me, simply because I'm already uncoordinated enough! 😆 My fondest race memories involve margaritas at the finish, and one race where there was a whiskey tasting tent at the finish. We ALL became whiskey fans that day! 😆 Dozens of people sunning themselves in the grass after, giggling... Edit... oh wait, WATER!? 🤣 😂

    Great video as ever. Would love to hear about drop. Does bigger drop protect ankles and is a lower drop better for knees/hips? I ask as I have just moved from the adrenaline GTS to the guide 14 and there is a 4mm drop difference.

    Love TRC!! I do an Ultra every year that consists of trying to do the most amount of miles you can run/walk in 24 hours. It’s a lot of fun here, my personal best was 67 miles (and it about killed me 🤣) So maybe TRC could do it as a contest between the group? Who can log the most miles in 24 hours??? 😎

    I am wondering how I could find the “proposed workout” feature anywhere else to work with my Apple Watch…

    I did a running streak of 3k for over 100 days, but eventually got injured... right now i'm extra cautious if I ever think about going more than 6 days a week... 7th day can always be extra strength and stretching if I really want to feel productive.
    that being said, sometimes I want to do it again... maybe I just need more base and more discipline to make the runs SLOW.

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      3k for 100 days is very impressive! Stretching and pacing yourself are both very important when taking on that much consistent running. What made you want to run that much to begin with?

    • @taylorlayton4508
      @taylorlayton4508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@runningchannel Looking back, I'm not really sure... I had caught the bug, run a few marathons and wanted to run them faster... and a streak seemed like a kind of fun idea.
      I think it was probably the overall mileage (up to 115km a week) more than the streak that injured me... I was not at all ready for that type of training load. 10% rule only works to a point, IMO.

    I live in upstate New York and I've been trying to start running again with the new year. Temperatures are not much better in NYS than in Canada - the average temperature from my last 3 runs is -2 F (-19 C). I might be insane, but I'm still running, so I guess it wasn't that bad.
