    I'm amazed that the organisers of a marathon would allow such a young child to run, 14+ seems reasonable if you can prove the child is capable. As for running at night it should be safe for anyone, unfortunately the reality is it's not.

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It is surprising he was allowed to enter the race at all. The organisers have also received a heavy amount of back lash but have stated that they thought the family would run the distance regardless and wanted to ensure the boy had water and medical attention on hand. Very true, the reality of running at night is sadly far less glamorous than the advert depicted.

      @@runningchannel Rainier hiked the Appalachian Trail (~2200 miles) with his family a when he was 3 or 4, although he was carried most of the way. His 5 school aged siblings were were along for the trip. About half way through, they took a few days off to the trail to run a marathon... that's just their lifestyle. They regularly catch flack for their family activities, but if the saying 'the family that plays together stays together' it true, then they're not doing so bad. I suspect Rainier has been running since he learned to walk.

    The child was forced to WALK he did NOT run the marathon. He cried most of the way, according to runners who passed the family. The father is a well -known TH-camr who makes a living off exploiting his family.

    Shame you aren't doing the series of Anna doing the multi day UltraX event. I really enjoyed the last one in the Azores. It helped me get out of the running slump and get my head into a great place to train for my ultras. I watch that series and the Allie Bailey South Downs Way video all the time when I think I cant do it. Love this TRC show! Love the Dread Mill Quations!

    I am lucky, i live in a rural area and really enjoy night running, i run in semi urban areas too at night but as much as it pains me to say, i dont think i would run alone at night in a city, as for a six year old running or at least covering 26 miles, well he could not really give free consent, to me it is co ercive and abusive , imo. Did enjoy this and do hope you continue to recover Rick,

    At sea level-train in the heat. Studies show the effects of training in the heat is comparable to altitude. This means, though, setting your hydration and nutrition ahead and monitoring your heart rate.
    This is why Joshua Cheptogai (sp.?) has an advantage: trains in altitude with heat.

    Not sure that parents allowing anyone close to that age to run a marathon should be lauded. It should be condemned, it is to the kid's long term detriment. Adults are essentially selfish.

    So - if I get sore achilles after a 1km walk (when I've previously been running 10km regularly without problems), is that a sign that the shoes might be knackered?
    My shoes have only 4mm drop, and I'm wondering if the foam is compressed, giving me negative drop.

      The organisation and manpower needed to run big events like the Vitality 10,000 is enormous There were comfortably over 13,000 runners congregating around Buckingham Palace before the kick-off, and they all had needs of some sort. Not least WCs and a safe place to stash their belongings.
      Whatever, I coughed up the £37 and had a fabulous day. I was lucky, I had a good friend in Chelsea who could put me up on the previous night. Heaven knows what a hotel would have cost me?

    They are promoting unrealistic and unachievable body standards. This is dangerous for our children. I'd rather see marathoners weighing a more realistic weight of say 220 lbs, and running reasonable times of 9 to 10 minutes a mile. This channel is is disgusting.
