Josef Chen’s style is beautiful and inspiring. That said, the decision is probably right because of the 1.5 successful takedowns by Tye. The rest of the match was probably a draw. Chen had incredible guard retention and beautiful entries, and inverted very well out of the estima lock. Ruotolo had incredible pressure and balance and managed to spin out and almost invert Chen’s attempts to enter the legs. Both men attacked and defended beautifully from their respective positions. A great technical bjj match won ironically by a blast double takedown.

@@MrCmon113 I disagree with the generalization. Guard player can be much more offensive and threatening than the top player. Top player controls the distance and can stall by refusing to engage (this match is not the case of course).

I don't get the comments here saying "Joseph should've won".
Each of them had one moderately threatening sub attemt.
Tye had a takedown, a back take attempt and was slightly more aggressive overall.
Yes it's a close one, but Tye clearly is the winner.
Just because everybody wants to see the prodigy win, doesn't mean he's always better.

    • @SHERMA.
      @SHERMA. หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      dude please stop with this
like lets take a step back here before we get into this debate
for a start, its absolutely fair to say that tyes takedown essentially "won" him this match *as nothing else substantial really happened*
after the takedown happened we saw tye get ever more frustrated as the minutes went by as he struggled to pass jozefs guard (if you disagree with this i suggest you watch him resort to face smothering a few times)
now that we have essentially agree'd he won from the takedown lets look at the entire situation
jozef has CGI for life changing money in 30days (45days since fight) the ONE place your not going to defend a takedown attempt is in an elevated boxing ring
keep defending the takedown? = getting singled or doubled and driven into and through ropes, 5ft down and onto concrete
any intelligent grappler would concede the takedown and live to fight another day
      so yea..
all you tye fans btw can go watch his post-fight interview and watch how completely disappointed and upset he was with his performance.
what we saw was a defeated tye who noticed his extravagant spazzy and active style doesnt and will not work vs technical composed and prepared players life jozef... a worrying conclusion to come too 45 days before 1million$

@@SHERMA. you are as biased as they come. you focused on all the bad things that happened to Tye in this match but fail to name evven one for Chen. Do you think Chen was frustrated that he couldn't out wit Tye and that he couldn't even come close to doing anything relevant from his guard except for one insignificant sub attempt? What conclusions did Chen draw from this battle before the 1 mil tournament? Tye took Chen down and was in perma attack whilst Chen failed everything he tried. Tye > Chen, have fun coping.

This is where I see the limit in pure grappling. With striking, the position that Tye was in, he be at huge advantage to hit and open up the game. But not in pure grappling. The Ruotolo want that respect and legacy to their name and that’s why, I believe, they are making their way to mma. MMA is the meta hand to hand combat sport. As of now, the Khabib’s line of mma grappling proving to be one of the most efficient, not the most effective. Garry Tonon too, is trying to prove bjj grappling in mma. Sadly though, highly doubt that Gordon Ryan will ever make his mma transition. He know his strengths and short coming too well as per John Danaher
