This really was a very good match. Watching it again it was much closer than I originally thought. Tye did a better job, especially towards the end, of controlling the mat space; but Meregali had more "near takedowns" and forced scrambles on/off the ground.
Oss 🔥🔥
I was surprised that Tye didn't turn into him trying to hook a leg or come on top. He turned away which opened the choke it seemed. Strange to see from a darce specialist.
@@Grandroborox he cant, the entire time, Nicholas hugs the leg, which prevents leg hook and Tye from turning his body, the posturing from Nicholas is enough for survival breathing (neck straighten, trapped shoulder push, elbow push, and lie on his back on top of opponent's body should be enough to create air space ), Tye can not risk more energy wasted squeezing, he could gas out if he keep on squeezing . from my experience, the key of countering the Darce is not escaping but surviving
Darce is a weak sub against bigger Guys, it’s not like a arm bar where 100% of body is against a elbow joint… meragali just needs to splay the shoulder and fight the sprawl…. It’s not like arm bar where your entire body is fighting the neck …. It’s like trying to darce dean lister it’s not gonna happen
The most underrated match of the entire tournament. David vs Goliath I love Tye he always fights-up in competition. Tye is the man to beat Gordon Ryan. Promise.
Quick reminder: Meregali had never competed in no gi until roughly 7 months before this fight. Bonkers. Danaher stated that in an interview. He says Meregali met him on early 2022 and said he wanted to be the champion both at the ADCC and BJJ World Championship. Danaher then told him “Sure, let’s work things out for you to compete at high level at the ADCC from 2024 onward.” To what Meregali replied: “Nope, we are going to fight for both titles this year.” (2022) Danaher told he was absolutely impressed by Meregali’s mindset and work-ethic.

Every jiu jitsu competitor NEEDS to learn a sweep single. A wrestling takedown that i have used to great success because it leads to very little risk and can be set up from so many different angles.
I love sweep singles, but it's not the best move for MMA or BJJ. With out shoes, it becomes much harder to hold on to. Especially in these long grueling matches, there is so much sweat running down the leg, it's very hard to hold on to. When I wrestled, sweep single was my go to move. In MMA and BJJ, I moved to double legs and traditional head inside single legs.
he did this match with two blown knees and within 45 mins of two exhausting matches with Pedro and Pena. I don't think he beats Gordon at this point in his career but just adding context. He looked fantastic here against Nicholas, the sub was razor close, and the match could've gone either way.
yeah i also think he needs to put on another 30 pounds of muscle at least before having a chance against Gordon. But not everybody wants to go that road.
The had more submission attempts than meregali. I’m a big meregali fan but tye was the one going for the kill. Kade and tye don’t play for points they got the kill. Tell I’m lying!!!!1
Were the commentators paid for every time they said “Tye Ruotolo”? Only reluctantly said Meregali. God forbid they should actually say something about technique or tactics.
I came to this match with fresh perspective, only knew Ruotolos name but watching silhouettes and body language, I could tell Nicholas was going to win after the Uchi Mata. Just a longer, stronger guy who earned it. Crowd , commentator and clout bias should not factor into the decisions, and it takes nothing away from just how good Tye is; I just knew Nicholas was the better man, this day
Also love how so many of you throw out the road accusation so easily and baselessly. Belfort aside, has Ryan ever been tested or failed a test?? He's hardly the only grappler who is jacked like that. He's hardly the only ATHLETE to be jacked like that.
I think sub attempts should score higher on the judges cards to be fair, tye was never really in danger in this match, but that darce could easily have hit
Seriously I get that it’s an absolute division but size has to be factored in during razed close decisions like this. He shot more shots just couldn’t finish with the size disparity
The best thing about the video is clearly seeing that the narrator is rooting for the American, but is constantly frustrated when Menegalli lands takedowns or goes for Tye's back. hahahahaha I am happy. Get used to it, you are not the center of the world.
“ Action packed “ they say. Love it when the kids these day say the Gi is dead cause it’s so boring : then in the same breath point to matches consisting of 20 mins of non-stop neck slapping and hard disengaging . Still pretty decent match - if you are able to scroll past the long stretches of neck slapping.
Pegou um oponente à altura, e estava visivelmente mais forte e mais alto. Mesmo assim não conseguiu parecer fácil 😂 ainda diz q bate com facilidade do mica
I love Jiu Jitsu, but as someone who can wrestle I don’t like how these matches begin. No outside shot fakes/level changes or the grip fighting and especially counters still need growth.
In ADCC you only get takedown points, if your opponent lands in any kind of guard, or you get any pin with at least 50% of his back on the mat. You can see in this match, that both comppetitiors are very aware of this rule and go to turtle everytime they are taken down.
I am dissapointed by all the noise over heard since this match of "tye getting robbed" or "tye should have won" tye didn't stop running until overtime. He should have been penalized for stalling a minute in. He ran off the mat to stop takedowns and such like what three times? You can't just count on being the aggressive person in overtime.
@JSL they're still forcing a reset by escaping to the limit of the boundaries instead of aceeding position. Nitpick it all you want its the same strategy, even if it's technicality within the ruleset

I don't know how you watch this and don't see the immediate problem? Jiujitsu guys have no game on the feet. Not only cant they get and keep each other down, but they are lumbering around like fucking Frankenstein leaving everything open all the time. The takedown opportunities are all over the place, but they have terrible wrestling fundamentals so they can't see them. At one point the announcer says "meregali is difficult to approach he is always reaching..." That is not good. That is exactly an opening that anyone with good wrestling can use. The state of takedowns in jiujitsu is disgraceful.
