This is one of the worse designed boss in ds3, I think. It's difficult, but in a bad way. The first phase invisibility just gives player too little information to learn the attack pattern. It's natural for players to kite away from an invis enemy. One needs to have the mindset of not-win, to get close and learn how the invis attack works. If you look up online how the invisibility attack works, then it's also a super easy fight. Bad design. The second phase can be kited indefinitely very easily... so there is no challenge fundamentally, it's just a time grinder... bad design. The third phase is okay... It's also not that great because the trick is pretty much constantly back pedaling until you see an opening. In contrast to, for instance, the nameless king fight where you need to constant dodge in close range (better design). The third phase is also annoying because the second phase is such a time grinder, so learning the attack pattern of the third phase is also just a time grinder
Friede's best line is from after opening the entrance to Father Ariandel's room but before actually going down there - she says the exact same lines, only with a slower, more dire, "this is your final warning" kind of emphasis.
And the fact that you can summon him unembered says to me that the devs REALLY wanted you to summon him. Makes sense, seeing as Gael pulled you into the Painted World to begin with.

This is a boss that can punish melee builds, I tried dozens of time beating her with quality build using Lothric Great & Straight Swords and no luck. Someone said the Hollowslayer Greatsword worked well on her. I was able to beat her 2nd try with that and Gael phantom's help. Gael was finally able to last the whole fight, we got Friede trapped against the wall and gang-banged her with stunlocks. May have been luck, because Gael is usually dead before 3rd fight, but Hollowslayer seemed to work.
I killed her in 2nd try with melee build and its my first souls game, you Just have to attack her and dont ler her attack you thats all there is to it, those people on video Just flee all the time and get their ass kicked.
In her third phase the trick is not to wait for her combo to end but rather to attack during the short pause between her combos(like the nameless king 3rd phase fredia tends to pause between her combos).Thats because as soon as one combo ends she tends to immediately chain another one but during the short gap between her combos there is a small opening for quick attacks.
Did they actually summon Gael as help in this fight?! I, as a veteran Dark Souls player take offense! If you aren't playing the game based on these arbitrary rules that I have in my head, you clearly aren't playing the right way! I mean, sure, summoning help in what is essentially a single player game won't affect me at all, but my perceived superiority in this one aspect of my life is all I have!
A lot of people probably just feel like it takes away from the experience, and is pretty cheap on this specific boss since you can stun-lock her to death. I recognize that some people just aren't that good at the game and getting their ass handed to them isn't fun for them, which is why people play games in the first place.
Taliesin I know it was obvious sarcasm, nice gag though. I like to summon Gael because it feels right to help him on his quest, especially after the ringed city came out.
I didn't rely on audio cues for the first phase, I started noticing that she either jumps over you or she runs sideways. By the shape of the "snow" cloud lifted by her feet when she leaps from the spot she became invisible in, you can determine where she went. Also, if she leaps/runs to a piece of furniture in the scene, she destroys it, that gives her away immediately.
She does it during her last form, it does massive amounts of damage. Like I'm fairly certain its the strongest grab in the game. Personally I think Midir has the coolest grab though.
****BLOODBORNE SPOILER ALERT**** The only phrase more chilling than "Tonight, Gehrman Joins The Hunt", was "When The Ashes Are Two, A Flame Alighteth. Thou art Ash, and Fire Befits Thee of Course"
Man, after that "impossible" third phase, I thought the game is BS for the first time. Had to play DS1, GOW, HZD, and Spiderman to know I still got it. 1 year after the 3rd phase revelation to me, I finally defeat her. Thank you Gael.
I love how Dark Souls connects its lore, I never knew Friede was Yuria’s eldest sister, and that she was one of the three founders of the Sable Church of Londor, along with their sister Liliane, this is something you get to find out only if you have 8 dark sigils before reaching Friede (she calls you Lord of Londor), and later visiting Yuria after having encountered Friede: Yuria will say something about you carrying a familiar sweet scent, and will warn you about her; later when you have Friede’s soul, Yuria comments about you carrying her sister’s soul, and asks you to do Friede a favour and usurp the flame in her name, since Yuria considers Friede would be honoured to serve such a cause.
Its funny because friede is one of the few bosses that you want to be aggressive as possible against, as she can be easily stunlocked and even knocked over. First phase almost every attack can be avoided by dodging towards her, second you just need to rush the big guy, and third is the only one needing more caution
A good boss fight is one that you learn from and beat from learning it. She's a great example, especially that first phase. She's devastating if you don't understand what's going on, x100 when she literally vanishes and jumps away lol
I have to say, this fight is by and large my favorite fight of the series. Its difficult, its visually amazing, its got that surprise factor for each time you get to a new phase. Its just plain amazing, and god damn if I didn't scream for joy when I beat her after like 20 deaths.
I'm surprised nobody flipped their lid about Friede basically popping an ember for phase 2, honestly. My mate and I lost our shit when we saw the crackly fire texture on her. Phase 3 was even more hysterical considering one of us hadn't played Bloodborne.
If any one is reading this and is still in that fight, I got a little piece of advise for you. On 1rst phase you can take advantange at her invisibility skill, you need to shoot her with a crossbow, you can do it with one hand while staying defensive and the arrows stay on her for a while, when she dessapears, the arrows won't, you will be able to see the arrows and therefore know where she is, she usually makes a jump and then starts charging for the attack. While charging you can give her up to 3 light attacks or 1 charged heavy attack. Thats what I did.
Oh man !!such a good display of the levels of grief to extreme pleasure that this fight envokes not mention the thousands of near death heart attacks it caused as well. Awesome vid
just the beginning of phase two alone is awesome. The way the music just escalates. the inferno of fire and ice, the intensity of the 2 on 1... and you're just so relieved and proud when you beat the two. And then Friede gets back up. And the music kicks in again. My dude. I never shat my pants like this in any souls game, and that's saying a lot

Sound it out loud and then ask yourself if it needs to be a or an. From what I can tell, it is fine just the way it is. o:
Preach, hahah.
Don't get offended man. Beside, summoning Gael only make this boss fight harder since Gael basically does nothing but increasing the boss' health. Lol
Some people in here have trouble detecting sarcasm.
10:55 "Woman! you literally blocked me from rolling away!" team work right there
I've fought Friede at least 7 times, and I have never seen that grab attack at 13:00 before.
That's fucking sick
She does it during her last form, it does massive amounts of damage. Like I'm fairly certain its the strongest grab in the game.
Personally I think Midir has the coolest grab though.
+Dogf ish I've probably never seen it because I usually just stun lock the shit out of her in that last form.
And yeah, Midirs grab is fucking badass.
dancer grap seems stronger or maybe equal to this
Midir's is stronger. At least on NG+.
I was down about a quarter of my health on a 1550 HP character.
The grab caught me and I died.
****BLOODBORNE SPOILER ALERT****
The only phrase more chilling than "Tonight, Gehrman Joins The Hunt", was "When The Ashes Are Two, A Flame Alighteth. Thou art Ash, and Fire Befits Thee of Course"
HAND IT OVER, THAT THING, YOUR "GAEL'S PHRASES"
"Curse the fiends, their children too, and their children, forever, true."
@@Filianore__ A call to the bloodless wherever they be
i just came here to see their reaction on the third phase, it blew my mind the first time i play the game
"YES! . . . wait, what?"
2 Years late, but yep, I simple gave up on that try, I was completely fucked.
1st phase wasn't bad but second phase took me so many attempts I was so happy when I finally did it only to be greeted by the third...
Man, after that "impossible" third phase, I thought the game is BS for the first time. Had to play DS1, GOW, HZD, and Spiderman to know I still got it.
1 year after the 3rd phase revelation to me, I finally defeat her.
Thank you Gael.
@@dantemiles689 Funny as I had the most trouble with phase 1, in phase 2 you go ham on the father while trying to dodge Friede's frost attacks.
12:13 when you are so surprised about the boss having a third phase that you turn into Shaggy
I love how Dark Souls connects its lore, I never knew Friede was Yuria’s eldest sister, and that she was one of the three founders of the Sable Church of Londor, along with their sister Liliane, this is something you get to find out only if you have 8 dark sigils before reaching Friede (she calls you Lord of Londor), and later visiting Yuria after having encountered Friede:
Yuria will say something about you carrying a familiar sweet scent, and will warn you about her; later when you have Friede’s soul, Yuria comments about you carrying her sister’s soul, and asks you to do Friede a favour and usurp the flame in her name, since Yuria considers Friede would be honoured to serve such a cause.
BANKAI: BLACK FLAMES
"A black Getsuga?!"
XSoul93 Lol. That brings back memories man..
BANKAI: *KOKUENRYŪ* (It means Black Flame Dragon to those who are wondering)
"So I'll show ya... HOW I USE THIS BANKAI!!"
bankai burako furamu
13:44 Most awesome boss atack on Dark Souls series ever.
Undead117 pretty avg imo
Pretty edgy tbh, can see how some would appreciate.
Freja's laser is pretty damn cool imo.
Or Aldia's moveset and animations.
I'd have to say it's a close second to Gael's summersault-crossbow attack
Undead117 yes, in Souls games grab attacks always kook clumsy, but this one is so smooth, it looks like an anime xD
you mean this 11:54
Loved this fight so much. Especially when you, as the player, go "Wait . . .there's a THIRD phase?!? NOOOOOO!!!"
*fighting freide for the first time
"ok so I roll through her attack and then hit he-"
Friede:I'M FAST AS FUK
Demon Prince, Halflight, Midir and Gael are next, I'm assuming. Can't wait.
Ville Lepoaho me too :b
Midir & Gael are the definite highlights, let's see their struggles, muahahaha...
i can agree with that, but there´s 1 difference the EPICNESS of Gaels Boss Fight Theme
They’re probs gonna fight a player, not halflife
17:17 for hearing a man loosing his sanity
*DEMON*
*PRINCE*
*WAITING*
*ROOM*
SLAVE
KNIGHT
GAEL
WAITING
ROOM
Михаил Пашковский Pretty sure that the demon prince is the next one
I know, but someday.....
Midir: HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
botarc I cannot wait for their reaction of Midir going full IMMAH FIRIN' MAH LIZA!!!!!
I love the fact that everyone is only annoyed by Father Ariandel, but are absolutely terrified of Friede.
12:19 Dude got so scared he turned into Shaggy from Scooby-Doo
176 pulse
Yea, checks out
Warren Graham lol
Why should it be fake?
Hoaller why would someone fake that? have you even played this boss? and a heart rate of 177 isnt lethal or anything, its fucking high though
I also would be interested in how you want to fake it.
to stupid for a Name it is fake nothing is being checked on her pulse or connected to her pulse
'Remember Bloodborne? Yes? Well, have that, but with like three phases.'
>blocking sister friede
then roll into her at the end of her combos? blocking will make your stamina bar disappear instantly unless you're a tank
Late but ye, shes basically parry the boss again. The double team is easy to cheese since the big chunggus is weak to everything
And have those 3 phases separated by themselves, instead of 3 phases in one healthbar like Slave Knight Gael or Lady Maria.
Friede is actually Rukia with Ichigo hidden under the skirt.
kyuusei19 this is the comment that gave me enlightenment
Lady Priscilla, the First Hunter of the Astral Clocktower & Smough
Sums up the whole fight
Blackflame Friede is the coolest fucking dark souls boss ever. Her particle effects on her jump attack are just *mwah* amazing
I have to say, this fight is by and large my favorite fight of the series. Its difficult, its visually amazing, its got that surprise factor for each time you get to a new phase. Its just plain amazing, and god damn if I didn't scream for joy when I beat her after like 20 deaths.
Nathan Roberts I guess you haven’t fought Gael yet then will the flaming cape backflipping constantly being on your toes and THE FUCKING LIGHTNING
i had fought gael already, and yes it is an awesome fight. but i still stand by my opinion of friede being the cooler fight.
literally. -xdfp
Just 20? That's how many times it took for me reach phase 3.
20 times? I've died like 1000 and still haven't finnished that piece of trash boss
"Are you one of the daughters of chaos?"
Says to a GUY on SNOWY place
Damn that Gab lady is so chill I gotta check out her entire play-through now! Thanks for this OP!
Friede is literally a bloodborne boss trapped in a dark souls game
I know this might be an old video now. BUT GOD DAMN. Those transitions between the different streamers is so damn good.
Lady Maria looks different here, what happened?
hlep me It’s her COOLER more awesome cousin, Friede.
I think Maria as a boss is way HOTTER than Friede.
hlep me Lady Maria watched Frozen thats what happened.
She went up against soul of cinder and he burnt her ass so she fled to ariandel
Ryze rework?
This is so well edited, props.
I don’t know why but the guy who commented the accent really made me laugh so much
Special mention goes to two best friends play when freide goes for her throat cut they all freak out over how cool it is.
I'm surprised nobody flipped their lid about Friede basically popping an ember for phase 2, honestly. My mate and I lost our shit when we saw the crackly fire texture on her. Phase 3 was even more hysterical considering one of us hadn't played Bloodborne.
“Aggressive, aggression, too much aggression” Lmao
"she turn invisible, how do you gonna fight that?"
by getting gud
its amazing dark souls, took me 70 tries to down the first, boss because I'm an idiot. but I just kept wanting to do it even though I was doing so bad
I know this comment is 4 months old, but how far have you progressed?
Not worth it all dlc
If any one is reading this and is still in that fight, I got a little piece of advise for you. On 1rst phase you can take advantange at her invisibility skill, you need to shoot her with a crossbow, you can do it with one hand while staying defensive and the arrows stay on her for a while, when she dessapears, the arrows won't, you will be able to see the arrows and therefore know where she is, she usually makes a jump and then starts charging for the attack. While charging you can give her up to 3 light attacks or 1 charged heavy attack. Thats what I did.
Xqc reaction to this was peak
"Return from where you came from look at me i'm a hipster" 💀
I only died in phase 1 and 2 maybe once. It was the 3rd phase that fucked me up with this fight.
''Please don't give me a tough lady''
...Little did she know...
The guy: "Ohhh she has 3 fases, so that's why she was easy"
Same guy dying over and over and using Gael to kill her.
You don't deserve it, ashen one.
His the kind of guy who points down even if he ran out of estus
I feel like it's fine to summon Gael for this fight, seeing as it's the only phantom that can be summoned without the use of an ember.
Oh man !!such a good display of the levels of grief to extreme pleasure that this fight envokes not mention the thousands of near death heart attacks it caused as well. Awesome vid
I really can’t believe my dumb ass beat her with 16 vigor.
I beat her on my first try ... a few days after giving up after 20 attempts
Should've put Bricky's reaction to the third phase. He was really mad at that lmao
Yesss finally here that's great!!!
I was wondering what kind of reaction they would have ? Your profile picture kind of fits what your saying to a degreee..
Everybody gangsta till u out of estus and the boss has more dialouge left
just the beginning of phase two alone is awesome. The way the music just escalates. the inferno of fire and ice, the intensity of the 2 on 1... and you're just so relieved and proud when you beat the two. And then Friede gets back up. And the music kicks in again. My dude. I never shat my pants like this in any souls game, and that's saying a lot
2:11 Don't give me tough lady
Fromsoft: alright, I'll make it triple
12:19 sounded like shaggy
Sister “this isn’t even my final form” friedè
Miyazaki be like: "You hate both Lady Maria and Laurence? Here, fight both of them at the same time"
The boss that made me ragequit for first time in a dark souls
