Brilliant video Nathan👌 especially useful for those who are starting pipe smoking and want to dabble in the joy of pure Virginia tobacco. Both Capstan's are classics that deliver the finest smoking experience of top class Virginia leaf. In regards to flake Vs ready rubbed, my theory is that if you fold the flake and pack your pipe then the flake form is preferred but if you anyway shred the flake then ready rubbed is preferred as more oxygen is incorporated into the smoke & brings out the finer flavours of the leaf. I always recommend new pipe smokers to try the ready rubbed until they master the art of the whole flake packing method. Ok that is my 2 cents worth opinion. Have a nice Sunday the weather tomorrow seems to be spring like 12C 👍 Speak soon
Thanks Gary. Your theory is spot on & very useful👍 as for the weather we had today a lovely sunny day hopefully tomorrow will be the same. Enjoy your Sunday as well.
Really nicely done review. I prefer the Blue, richer and more mouth feel. Great all day smoke. Keep up the great reviews. Have you tried JF Germains Brown flake. That would make a nice review. 👍
@HernetheHunter121. Thanks. As for the Germains Brown flake unfortunately it is mostly out of stock but i managed to acquire another special Germains for my last video of 2024 to be published next week.
Good Morning 😊 Beauty of a Pipe 😍 Informative and Educational Video 💯 Appreciate The Reviews 👍🏼 The Comparison on The Blends are Most Interesting 👏🏼 Have a Wonderful Sunday and Happy Smoking Moments 🌬💨💨 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Hello Nathan. Thanks for sharing your comparison. Both are solid blends. I also have many more of the blue. I have been cellaring these for years. They age wonderfully!!! Be well.
What a treat Nathan a double review of my favourite Virginia brand. I love them both & i agree the Blue is wee richer. Like another favourite of mine the St. Bruno I prefer them both ready rubbed it seems to smoke better, i guess i am in the that camp who claim the ready rubbed smokes better 😁 That said whichever type of cut one prefers the Capstan rains king in the straight Virginia realm. Regards. Daniel & Beth
Thanks Daniel. Indeed I can understand both views on flake vs ready rubbed. What I always say try both cuts and decide what appeals to you most or both. Take care my friend & regards to Beth.
Excellent review Nathan. The Capstan blue is my favourite straight Virginia. I have smoked the flake and the ready rubbed very similar to the Haymaker which is also a lovely rich blend. I will have to buy the Capstan gold to now 😊happy smokes Martin
I wasn’t really a fan of the Gold Flake. I really love the Blue Flake though! I’m actually aging an unopened can of the Blue Flake. My goal is to open it after 10 years of aging.
Great video. I have tried the capstone blue. Thought it was ok. HH pure virginia I thought was a little better. But love orlik golden sliced and mac baren navy flake
Nice review. To be honest Capstan blue is a nice tobacco but if i have to choose i go for MacBaren Virginia #1 at this moment my favorite. A little sweet and later in de bowl the honeytaste. Capstan blue... My first smell tomatoketchup a little overwelming... My plan was to sm9ke a bowl Blue... But it wil be an Amphora Full also a MacBaren made tobacco
Thanks. Yes the HH Virginia is also top quality that I will share my thoughts in upcoming videos. That ketchup smell that some talk about for some reason never registered with my sense of smell😊 in any case we are lucky that nowadays everyone can find a favourite Virginia which ever brand.
@TheVapingPiper Yesterday evening i tried Capstan Blue again... By folding the flake... What a difference in taste!!! And a cooler pipe. I had to light the pipe much more. Normally when the flake is rubbed i let it rest for 10-15 minutes. I did not yesterday. I smoked the pipe and enjoyed Capstan Blue.
Hi Nathan. Where did you get the nice white round labels to put on the jars? Are they removable? I'd love to buy some for my jars. I'm now using a small square sticky note.
I purchased them from Amazon. It is round stickers 50mm it comes in a roll of 500. At the time I paid £12.99. It sticks well and can be removed easily without tearing. A permanent pen marker is ideal to write on
I was smiling when I read your comment😊 hot air ha?! Taste is so personal & can be so different to different people. Hot air to one and to another packed with tasty nuances. I wonder if using a filter would improve things🤔
Interesting...I enjoy both Gold & Blue, exceptionally good. Cellared deep on both of these along with another you have reviewed 😉Folding flakes is my preferred packing method...more intense flavour, longer lasting and a cooler smoke imo. Nathan, that cedar note you mention - I certainly detect in some of the more darker richer leaf blends, especially mid-bowl onwards. I've never tried Mac Baren's HH PV....but other less known pure Virginia's that I have enjoyed and would recommend are Bjarne's flake de luxe, Patriot and Skippers Flake by DTM and Pfeifen Timm's (no name) Gold. They are all similar in many ways but all have detectable subtle differences within the spectrum of the genre. I'm clearly a Virginia junkie😃 Have a lovely weekend.
Thanks Mark for your detailed comment & suggestions that I always pay close attention to😊 good to know that you also experienced that cedar note with some Virginia leaf that i defected with blue. I liked your description of you being a Virginia junky😃 I can wholeheartedly claim I am a general pipe tobacco junky Virginia blends including. I once used the expression a Tobccooholic😂 take care Mark.
@thevapingpiper I’m Filming a scene Soon where one of the Characters Will be smoking a Pipe I Humbly would like Your Opinion on Which Tobacco has the Most Smoke Output, like Thick Dense Maduro’Esc Smoke. Thank you Very Much in Advance

Wow great review will try them both. Enjoying some Lane BLWB in my crown and from your comments I will be trying both. Happy piping
Thanks Michael. Looking forward to hear your feedback. Enjoy your blend mentioned😊
Enjoying this one. Love the rusticated pipe Nathan
Thanks Richard.

Thank you Martin. Both the Blue & Gold are excellent examples of best quality Virginia leaf. Would love to hear your opinion when you do try the Gold.
Enjoyed the review. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks
Agree with you 100% on buying the flake, ssems to hold flavor longer and is always perfect moisture content. St least for me!
Thanks John. So do I prefer flake but the age old argument of flake Vs ready rubbed rages on😊Have a relaxing weekend
I wasn’t really a fan of the Gold Flake. I really love the Blue Flake though! I’m actually aging an unopened can of the Blue Flake. My goal is to open it after 10 years of aging.
@GrognardPiper. My opinion is that life is too short to wait 10 years to smoke a particular blend😊 That said, I wish you long & healthy life.
@ until then I still get a tin of it every summer. I just wanted to get a good age one that tin to see how it compares.
Great video. I have tried the capstone blue. Thought it was ok. HH pure virginia I thought was a little better. But love orlik golden sliced and mac baren navy flake
Thanks Mike. I too enjoy the HH pure Virginia but I find the HH can cause tongue bite to some more than the Capstan. Did you experience the same.

@TheVapingPiper Thanks so much for the reply. Going to order some today.
By the way, after you reviewed Luxury bulls-eye flake, I ordered some and boy is it good.
@@bogbel1enjoy
I think the yellow one is just hot air more or less. The blue is slightly better, but not much.
I was smiling when I read your comment😊 hot air ha?! Taste is so personal & can be so different to different people. Hot air to one and to another packed with tasty nuances. I wonder if using a filter would improve things🤔
@TheVapingPiper correct. I'm not a big Mac Baren fan overall. The Navy Flake is ok but the rest are just junk imho.
Well, luckily for us that we all can find a blend we enjoy😊

What do you think about STG buying mac Baren and stopping production? They will shut down their American productions forever.
