Thanks, Glynn, for this post, it answers most of my questions about plugs and twists straight away. It's especially good to come across this video because earlier today I ordered from GQ a chunk of one of the featured tobaccos, Sam Gawith's Full Virginia Plug. Great service & much appreciated :-)
Thanks for watching, I no longer own GQ Tobaccos, but I'm delighted you found the video informative. Glad Sam (new owner, really great guy) is still making customers happy (which is the best part of the job).
Sadly I'm out of the industry, dont want to rehash the same comments over & over but I'm also no longer active in the community. I had to cut back on videos when I started GQ as I started having kids at the same time, so I just couldn't fit it all in. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it
@@richardcranium9887 no I was closing down 4 years but another tobacconist was about to start building a site. So I sold them the rights to the name and all my remaining stocks.
Very valuable information and much appreciated. I'm just beginning my journey into the plugs and roll cakes and this vid really makes my mouth water. I'm currently smoking through a tin of Comoy's Cask No. 7 Single Coin Sliced, and I'm just lovin' it!
It's a shame not to see you Glynn. You were a key contributor to TH-cam. Seeing reviews would be well received by a lot of people, if you were to do short reviews of new tobaccos available on GQ. I get your last comment but people like to see your take on things and there have been so many new releases in the last 2 years. Pls come back!!!!!
Nice to see you, Glynn! Very good and informative vid. I love plugs but have not had a twist in very long time. Generally they are too strong for me. Wish there were more crumble cakes around! Take care. Emil
Ah good to hear from you. Family is utmost important :-). I have placed a small order with your site just yesterday. Nothing big just cleaning stuff. However I have my eye on a pipe and come pay day should hopefully place my order for my second pipe. :-))) can't wait. I look forward to your next video. And all the best to you and your family Sir. Jason
Great video my man. Only thing is the volume is a bit low. I could make out most of what you where saying but I know I missed some info. It was good seeing you again. Take care
Boy do I want to take a trip to England! Here in the US we have so few real/proper tobacconists, and they're spread-out over hundreds upon hundreds of square miles. When I finally make it across the pond I'll have to pay this shop a visit! I know this video's a bit old in internet years but it's hardly outdated.
You guys have it much better over there - more selection and lower prices. There are maybe three or four half-decent brick and mortar tobacconists in the whole of London, but their prices are ridiculous when compared with online prices in the US.
UK - same as Glynn, he no longer blends tobacco, new regulations closed almost all independent blenders. Glynn quit the industry. Cost is triple the price here
When you make a plug or twist, what ratio do you use? 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, 80/20 ? I combined #400 Newminster, with #8 jL Peretti. They compliment each other.
Glynn, great video. It was fascinating seeing all the different types of tobaccos and the different cutting blends. Please keep these videos coming! You mentioned that plugs and flakes age differently. Could you elaborate? I love SG Balkan flake, and I've seen that you have Balkan plug. (The only person who has it I believe) I had wanted to order but the UK prices are considerably higher than simply buying the flake format. What would the potential benefit of the plug format be?
The main difference in the aging is a plug has less surface area, so holds the moisture/oils in tighter. I tried glp jackknife plug & rr with a few years and the plug was richer and smoother. It's the same with flakes & plugs. As for prices, yeah I hear your pain on that one. We cry when looking on American sites :p
GQ, I'm trying to learn how to caller bulk pipe tobacco, and understand that mason jars are best in doing so...but is it really necessary to create an airtight seal on the jar. I saw a video where someone put a jar with tobacco in the microwave for only 10 seconds, (just to warm it up and bring out a tad of moisture) and then screw the lid on to get it to seal, with the popping center seal tight. Can doing this ruin the weed? Is this necessary, or shoulD I just fill the jar and screw in the lid? What is the best way to cellar bulk weed?
It's so sad that I can't order from you to Germany. I mean we have the Samuel Gawith line here but G&H has so much more Ropes, Plugs and Flakes to offer, would really like to try some of them. But thank you for the Video, it's very informative.

Ineed! I love Plugs, especially SG VA or St. James. I like to try to cut them as thin as possible, so a ribbon is made. I also use a nylon piece of cutting board on top of the plug, as well as the typical under the plug. With the smallest amount of tobacco protruding from the two boards, I use a nice cleaver style knife and hold it at about 45 degrees at the beginning of the cut so, the blade's side is contacting both the top and bottom cutting board edges. Then I start a slice and it goes through the baccy very easily. I think the thinner cut makes for a more flavorful bowl. Do you sell those GQ Tobacco Coffee Cups in your store? I want one!
Where can I find some full Virginia plug? I looked at the 3 big dealers and nothing, please help. Thanks for the channel, I wish you still blended and I could receive your blends.
Mark Wesley hi due to the changes in registration rules, I don't think you will now. small batch, custom stuff needs registering which costs & has admin time attached. one of the main reasons I've had to close. basically ruined me
