In Perth it seems the sizzle is served on a roll, in Melbourne it is only a slice of white bread. Same $3.50 price and I suspect slightly shorter sausage too, matching diagonal length of bread slice plus a little over. As for charities, the organisation for charity changes each day and week. Supported are all community, local sports clubs, scouts, help groups and so. Bunnings provide the sausage sizzle facility, tents, grills etc. I am not sure if Bunnings assist with supplies, though I have noted as the sizzle runs low on bread, people running the sizzle have dashed to nearest supermarket for a number of additional loaves of sliced bread. Also experienced that towards end of day, they have run out of tomato sauce on occasion. The ' Sausage Sizzle ' makes visiting Bunnings a worthwhile stop on weekend days, even when not really needing to shop there.
It's because WA is home of Bunnings and the sausage sizzle..it was always a bun here and then when bunnings expanded east, they gave you the cheaper version. Condolences 😅
Some idiot slipped on onions from a sausage at Bunnings and tried to sue them. So, they decided to put the onions on first as a safety measure. You just couldn't make this stuff up 😂
Many people don't know that Bunnings provides the BBQs, tables, gazebo etc and all the charities have to bring is the food and the volunteers. It is a wonderful initiative that has been going for at least 30 years, which is when I was involved raising funds for my son's local scout group. Bunnings themselves have also organised their own Sausage Sizzles, manned by their own staff, to support the SES (State Emergency Service) and the RFS (Rural Fire Service) during recent Bush Fires and Floods. When that happened with queues were at least 50 to 100 people long. Supporting charities when you visit Bunnings is a national institution and source of pride. Note....When you have a Sausage sizzle, wrap a serviette around the bottom so the onions don't fall out. BBQ sauce and Mustard is also a great combination.
I was going to say it must be a Westralian thing, but it's been a while since I had a Bunnings sausage inabun. I might have to go and check it out and find out where the onions go. Yeah mustard and tomato sauce, and 'bin doing that for as long as I can remember (and that's quite a while 'coz I'm older than you are Lee). I've actually manned the BBQ on a few of those, for school P&C fundraisers mostly. Bunnings supply the annex, the BBQs and the gas. The fundraisers do the sausages, bread, onions, sauces, and donate their time to run it. You have to book with Bunnings to get the facilities and they are usually booked out well in advance. Every weekend, both days, every week of the year, all different charities. Bunnings murdered the suburban family owned hardware store, but the sausage sizzle is iconically Aussie, and a lot of community groups and clubs would be worse off without the fund raising. The UK is missing out.
I was wondering if you'd get to a Bunnings and have a sausage. Bit of an Aussie institution, but most Bunnings don't do full sized hot dogs like you had. It usually just a beef snag folded in a piece of white bread with onions (on the bottom! - controversial, I don't know if my local Bunnings got that memo yet, but I haven't been to Bunnings in years) and about a $1 last time I went, so that would have changed I'm sure. The proceeds are always for a local charity or kids sports of some type. You get to wear yourself out wandering the endless isles of hardware and homewares and recharge yourself on the way out with a cheap and tasty snack that supports a worthy cause. You're suppossed to eat the onions not drop them on the ground Lee. I'm with you on the mustard and sauce combo. It's the future indeed! I picked that lady as a Kiwi straight away. It amazes me how many Kiwis are in Perth. I don't know how they deal with the heat. You don't know British Paints? Rolf Harris (ugh🥺) used to be their spokesperson. 4:20 Bunnings didn’t TRY to open in the UK they did open in the UK. They bought out Homebase and rebranded their existing stores. One of the first Bunnings stores was near me. I really liked it and we went regularly. They had lots of quirky products that you don’t normally see, presumably imported from Aus. Did not partake of the sausages though. They had insane levels of staff, you couldn’t find a place in the store where there weren’t multiple staff in eyeshot. I wasn’t surprised they struggled financially. Less staff and less money spent on doing up the stores and they might have made it. The store reverted back to being a Homebase again after they pulled out

11:46 Yes, Bunnings pretty much like B&Q in the UK or Lowes Home Improvement & The Home Depot stores in the US/Canada ... Great episode today ❗ Enjoyed that 👀👍❗
It is NOT an unwritten law to put onions on the bottom. Onions ALWAYS went on top, with tomato sauce and/or mustard. In NSW we call them Sausage Sangas (sandwiches). They are NOT hotdogs. They are a single slice of white bread, butter optional, a BEEF sausage, optionally topped with grilled onions, tomato sauce (NOT ketchup), and/or mustard (I prefer English mustard not that American crap). The only reason onions are on the bottom now is because a few modern imbeciles who can't watch where they walk, slipped on some dropped onions. Of course, in the modern world, everybody needs to be wrapped up in cotton wool because they can't take any personal responsibility for their own actions and the nanny state has to implement stupid laws to protect these babies.
@@debshipard1664 Bunnings is owned by Westraders, they bought Homebase in 2016 for £340 million. They sold it in 2018 to 'Turnaround spacialist' Hilco for a nominal £1 after making losses for the 2 years they owned it.

Onions first........ such a little thing but if it stops one person falling and potentially having a life changing injury, it's worth it. I know of someone who fell due to an untied shoelace - broke his hip, 6 months in hospital and rehab, never quite the same after the accident. I HATE the nanny state mentality but a little common sense is always welcome. I'm surprised the sausage sizzle hasn't taken off around the world! It's such a nice community thing.
It was the untied shoelace from his own shoes that somehow got caught up as he was moving about. Such a silly little thing but with major consequences. You can't prevent every accident and you'll go nuts trying but a bit of common sense and awareness never goes astray.@@davidnorton5887

MISTER MACMASTER! Lee what a bloody character the lady is 😂😂😂😂 health and safety don't slip on the onions 😮😮😮😮strange old world!!! Hot dogs looked mmmmmm 😋😋❤
Its not all about health and safety! The amount of spilt/dropped fried onions on a Sunday used to stink the front out and attract flies and with the lack of rain and in the heat they dry and stain the paving outside! Health &Safety is a great tool to use to implement somewhat unnecessary rules, Had them in bread a few years ago when they were a $1 but been in Hotdog buns for quite some time at Perth stores, since they went from $2 to $3.50 The bun might make them seem better value?
Someone did try to sue them for slipping on onion but I agree, there's less onion to step on on ground and less flies to attract. Was major headline on news when the rule was bought in, might be just the West that it's a rule but not sure it's totally abided by these days.
Hi Lee, just for the record, a sausage sizzle has always been a sausage sandwich between 2 slices of bread, not bread rolls. Wouldn't be the same otherwise. Just been to my local Bunnings here in Sydney and pleased to report that they still serve sausages and onions in bread - they hadn't heard of the bread roll thing, so that must be a Perth thing. They also said onions on the bottom was a 'Facebook Furphy'. Said if you hold a sausage sandwich in the palm of your hand and turn it over, the onions will be on the bottom anyway. So, it's not an Australia-wide thing at all. 😊
It's just us West Aussie who are classier and have bread rolls, we don't do stingy slices of bread here. Some places even do buttered buns! West is best!
Also the onion on the bottom is a rule here in the West, was major headline on the news when it happened, very controversial!! Apparently it's due to some trying to sue them from slipping on onions, plus there's less onion dropped inside and outside on ground/floors to step on, less flies to attract.
Wrong. Bunnings sausage sizzle is from WA and was originally in a bun ..when bunnings eventually expanded to the east coast you were given an inferior version..the traditional bun stays in WA and is the superior version..imagine thinking a slice of cheap white bread is better 😂
You should gone to Big W for Bluey books and more variety....Bunnings also has bluey themed things....sausage sizzle is a Aussie icon at Bunnings and goes to support local charity....you should come south of the river Ellenbrook way north lol love your videos thanks for highlighting Perth WA been awesome videos
WA looks like they do sausage sizzles a bit flasher than the rest of Australia (and NZ too), all the ones I've ever been to just have a slice of buttered white bread- I would far prefer a hot dog bun though! I definitely always go with the mustard and tomato sauce as well as onions, can't beat that combo IMHO.
Yes. WA had bunnings before the east coast and the sausage sizzle was already a tradition in WA with the bun ..when they expanded to the east they just gave you a slice of bread where as in WA it would of upset the locals so they left it as it should be 😊
Sausage sizzles were done by sporting groups as a way to make money long before Bunnings got involved. My junior footy club did one outside a Alco hardware store in 1971 to raise money.
LOL! "There’s no such thing as a thumbs down…” 🤣 Anyway; three things! Suddenly I felt like travelling with you would be a blast! Second, if you, for whatever reason, wanted to go to my hometown there’s now a few new restaurants here in Larvik🇳🇴. And third: that onions in the bottom sausage looked so good that I had to eat!!
Back when I still had my Greyhound the onions and mustard had to go at one end of the hotdog; sharing was kind of compulsory and hotdog stalls were the first place she'd head to at fairs and other outdoor events 🙂Apparently onions are unsuitable for dogs...
We only get bread slices on the east coast so rolls are a new thing to us. The pet thing in Bunnings is starting to become a problem, let's just say, you wouldn't take your dog, unless it was a working dog, down the aisles of Sainsbury's or Morrisons.
Nothing strange about taking your cat out for a walk! There's a chap in London, I forget his name, who takes his cat around on his bicycle, with him. He's on the tube.
You seem to have come across a very Boujee sausage sizzle at that bunnings. You got long bread rolls. Normally, a sausage sizzle would be your sausage & onion on a slice of sandwich bread
Nope. Perth is home of Bunnings and the sausage sizzle..you get ripped off over there sorry to say .it was always in a bun here long before Bunnings expanded east
A Hot Dog is American, an Aussie Sausage is different, we have Beef sausages from butchers, not highly processed like a Hot Dog Sausage. It's a classic Aussie BBQ staple!!
Burnings was here to take over home base now both businesses gone…loads of stock left for the skip..My wife’s cousin in Sydney’s ..her daughter works for the bluey production team for BBC Australia..

Massive place with load of automation, 110 acre site, 1,000,000 sq foot warehouse all to move a packet of screws (plus othet stuff) Always have ketchup and mustard, hangover from Costco's £1.50p hot dog and unlimited drinks, and its a big bigger than yours!!
You're missing the point about the Sausage Sizzles. They are for helping different charities. 😀 Australians are a generous lot and they always love the chance to have a Sausage Sizzle for brekky while helping out a mate at the same time. 😀 It doesn't hurt that they collected their DIY supplies for the weekend at the same time either. Thanks for giving us a good idea of what the big B&Q warehouse is like. 😀 I used to work as a researcher for the building and construction industry so I found it interesting. 😀

Perth invented the sausage sizzle. Bunnings is from Perth..it's blasphemy to have it in bread like that ...Bunnings was in Perth long before the rest of Australia . Our way is correct thank you very much 😅
There not Hot Dogs. Hot Dogs are an American thing with highly processed sausages. Our Aussie Sausage Sizzle is a Beef Sausage, usual from a butcher or as Butchers call them 'Steak in a Case'. Its a classic Aussie BBQ staple. Us West Aussies are classy and have ours in a bun where the rest of Oz is cheap and has theirs in a slice of bread.

Tomato Sauce here in Australia is terrible, and when I moved here from Canada, I brought with me my Heinz Ketchup with me all the way. Agreed with American mustard and they should also put out the American Relish or what you Aussie's call gerkin shit.

They had insane levels of staff, you couldn’t find a place in the store where there weren’t multiple staff in eyeshot. I wasn’t surprised they struggled financially. Less staff and less money spent on doing up the stores and they might have made it. The store reverted back to being a Homebase again after they pulled out
enjoyed the video Lee, the sausage sizzle looked so delicious😊😊
Rolls? Aren't the sausages normally in bread.
Depends on who is doing the sizzle.
Not in Perth always rolls. Eastern states do bread - cheapskates 😂
Rolls are bread
Us West Aussies are classier and have ours in a Roll, we don't do slices of bread, the rest of Oz is stingy having a slice of bread. West is best!! Some places you can even get a buttered roll, thats next level!
Never heard of sausage rolls?!!
Bunnings sausage sizzle is certainly an institution! and an opportunity for local 'not for profit' groups to raise funds... Your videos are so much fun 😀
11:46 Yes, Bunnings pretty much like B&Q in the UK or Lowes Home Improvement & The Home Depot stores in the US/Canada ... Great episode today ❗ Enjoyed that 👀👍❗
Except prices are higher in Australia & New Zealand
Great video Lee just wondering why when you have something in your hand you walk around with it sticking out in front of you 👏👏👍👍
Am sure Geoff would have something to say about your American mustard sauce lol 😂
This series in oz has been just brilliant- good luck to you Lee on your next journey 😊
Paul and Deb's are awesome! More shops should be pet friendly, huge market!
£45 for one tin of paint.
I would say that's expensive.😂🇬🇧
Paint is expensive in the UK now as well.
Paints a rip off over here
@@nickgolding5786 I pay no more than £20 for a tin of emulsion / paint , whatever That is $38. (Northeast of England.) 🏴
If I remember correctly Bunnings 'bought out' Homebase for £1 and failed.
I woudn't be surprised if Wesfarmers the owner of Bunnings just kept the name Home base. Correct me if Bunnings isn't owned by Wesfarmers .
@@debshipard1664 Bunnings is owned by Westraders, they bought Homebase in 2016 for £340 million. They sold it in 2018 to 'Turnaround spacialist' Hilco for a nominal £1 after making losses for the 2 years they owned it.
Don't want to slip on onions it would bring tears to your eyes
Remember.. WA is home of Bunnings and the sausage sizzle..our version in a bun is the traditional version..when the east coast eventually got bunnings, they got ripped off with the slice of bread ..as we say...WEST IS BEST 😅
🤦♀️ you went to the most expensive book shop to buy those Bluey books. If you had gone to Kmart you would have got twice the no. of books for same price.
Did you check out the sandpaper while you were there? I hear the Aussies have developed some quite imaginative uses for it. 🏏😉
Only in South Africa!🤠
Yea, and their a bunch of cry babies@@davidbrown9015
Onions first........ such a little thing but if it stops one person falling and potentially having a life changing injury, it's worth it. I know of someone who fell due to an untied shoelace - broke his hip, 6 months in hospital and rehab, never quite the same after the accident. I HATE the nanny state mentality but a little common sense is always welcome. I'm surprised the sausage sizzle hasn't taken off around the world! It's such a nice community thing.
Who left the untied shoe lace on the floor?
It was the untied shoelace from his own shoes that somehow got caught up as he was moving about. Such a silly little thing but with major consequences. You can't prevent every accident and you'll go nuts trying but a bit of common sense and awareness never goes astray.@@davidnorton5887
Good Evening lee, Paul and the Gorgeous Debs. The Sausage Sizzler, The perfect Hot Dog with Onions on the Bottom for the Silly health safety Buerocratic Red Tape i reckon. You just have to take your time eating your Beautiful Large Sausage Sizzler. Helen, was such a Lovely person and what a Great idea to Involved the Less Fortunate young people getting into Work. What a Superb Charity to Help people and give them a much Better and Brighter Future. B&Q, do have some Competition now with this Hardware Store biting at there heels i would think. You are a very Kind and thoughtful person Lee, those Bluey Books looked really Lovely. It Will never be Thumbs down for your video's Lee. Always Thumbs Up from me for You lee. Thank you my Friend. 😃😃😃😃😃🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Going out for breakfast
There is nothing better than a snag (sausage) from bunnings on a weekend.
A Bluey episode called "Hammerbarn" is all about a trip to Bunnings.
Worth travelling to Australia for a Bunnings sausage sizzle.
They did the same thing with the potential dangers of babies food, yup they did a rusk assessment
Been a great series pal enjoyed watching them 👍
Bunnings bought UK Homebase in 2016 - and then sold if at a huge loss in 2018 - having flopped disastrously. Not a lot of people know that! 😀
Tried to take on B&Q. Ended up surrendering and sold the UK part of the business for the princely sum of
£1
yay same music as on your benidorm blog most recently where u are walking down the strip after just arriving :)
MISTER MACMASTER! Lee what a bloody character the lady is 😂😂😂😂 health and safety don't slip on the onions 😮😮😮😮strange old world!!! Hot dogs looked mmmmmm 😋😋❤
Hey hun those hot dogs look Fantastic and tasty . and I bet the kids enjoyed there books . it was lovely to see Woolworths my favorite store xxx❤
They're not Hot Dogs, that's an American thing. An Aussie Sausage Sizzle is a Beef Sausage usually from a Butchers. Classic Ausdie BBQ staple!
Bunning Sausage Sizzles here in the West have always been a Bun, we're much classier than the rest of Oz with a stingy slice of bread!
Sara will just love you - He went to Australia and he bought me a little bag - thx
Lol. She got my wages.
We live in nanny state. We are treated like children.
LOL! "There’s no such thing as a thumbs down…” 🤣
Anyway; three things! Suddenly I felt like travelling with you would be a blast! Second, if you, for whatever reason, wanted to go to my hometown there’s now a few new restaurants here in Larvik🇳🇴. And third: that onions in the bottom sausage looked so good that I had to eat!!
I always put my onions on the bottom as well. AND, I use Ketchup and Mustard on top. Yummy. 😋😋
Back when I still had my Greyhound the onions and mustard had to go at one end of the hotdog; sharing was kind of compulsory and hotdog stalls were the first place she'd head to at fairs and other outdoor events 🙂Apparently onions are unsuitable for dogs...
That's good you can take your pets with you in DIY store in Australia
We only get bread slices on the east coast so rolls are a new thing to us. The pet thing in Bunnings is starting to become a problem, let's just say, you wouldn't take your dog, unless it was a working dog, down the aisles of Sainsbury's or Morrisons.
Nothing strange about taking your cat out for a walk! There's a chap in London, I forget his name, who takes his cat around on his bicycle, with him. He's on the tube.
seen that me and my cat on a bike or something!!
Coming from Sutton-in-Ashfield originally.... my dad has a Sutton saying "it all goes to make a turd!"
You seem to have come across a very Boujee sausage sizzle at that bunnings. You got long bread rolls. Normally, a sausage sizzle would be your sausage & onion on a slice of sandwich bread
All of us West Aussie have our Sausage Sizzle in a bun, we don't do a stingy slice of bread like the rest of Oz, some places even do buttered buns!!
Nope. Perth is home of Bunnings and the sausage sizzle..you get ripped off over there sorry to say .it was always in a bun here long before Bunnings expanded east
That paint is a colossal price. I wouldn't like to be doing my house at that price. Great video. Nice hotdogs I don't like onions.
Elf & safety the world has gone mad
Yes. Always put onions on the bottom, add mustard and red sauce then turn the hot dog over...stops you from getting your hands messy!
A Hot Dog is American, an Aussie Sausage is different, we have Beef sausages from butchers, not highly processed like a Hot Dog Sausage. It's a classic Aussie BBQ staple!!
And yes, the buns need to cut throught the top like a Hot Dog, stops the contents from spilling out
It’s not supposed to be in a hotdog bun.. that’s too much bread…. Should be diagonally on a slice of white bread….
Us West Aussies are classier and have buns, some places you can get them buttered too!
I vote buns. We should have a referendum.
Ere Macmaster were you still a bit smashed 😂😂😂😂😂
Hanging out my a*** 😂
@@TheMacMaster 👍🏻👍🏻🥰
Ive done that for a while; they sit better and don't slide off with the sauce and im from Nottingham.
I’m not Australian but I always have the onions put on the bottom.
Same here
Burnings was here to take over home base now both businesses gone…loads of stock left for the skip..My wife’s cousin in Sydney’s ..her daughter works for the bluey production team for BBC Australia..
talking of B&Q, thier big warehouse in Worksop, I joined them as Engineering and Facilities Manager in 2005 and retired from there in Feb 2022.
Onions first makes the sauce be directly on the sausage for better taste anyhow. lol....
Hi-Viz For sausage eaters - sounds a great idea - helps with the "tar and feathering" later on. - onion droppers, tut tut.....
Tracey needs her own channel.
Watching people slip over on fried onions would be most amusing
Blimey not seen a Woolworth store for years, presume it can’t be the same business that went bust in the UK a few years back. The lady from Belfast was amazing “Four Candles” absolute classic. Sausage sizzler surely a hot dawg with onions.
Brilliant vlog lee hot dogs looked amazing Irish lady was bubbly great ❤
Hot Dogs are American, Aussie Sausage Sizzle is totally different, we have Beef Sausage from a Butchers.
Hahaha excited video 👍 also quick question have you ever thought of visiting Ibiza before ?
Feels like yesterday you just landed. Time flies!
Omg!!! Those hot dogs look delicious 😋
Sausage with onion rolls
A sausage sizzle in anything other then a slice of bread is blasphemy. Onion sausage and BBQ sauce
Most of the time it's bread anyway.
Perth invented the sausage sizzle. Bunnings is from Perth..it's blasphemy to have it in bread like that ...Bunnings was in Perth long before the rest of Australia . Our way is correct thank you very much 😅
@@ACDZ123 what makes you think Perth invented the sausage sizzle?
@solreaver83 because we had it before you ..bunnings was in Perth long before the east coast lol 😆..that's how I know
@@ACDZ123 bunnings didn't invent the sausage sizzle.....
Entertaining as always hot dogs looked good nice couple you are staying with.
Did you meet with any skips ? Or just poms ?
WA metro areas are covered with those migrants, unfortunately Islanders, Filipinos, etc have to jump thru a million hoops to even come here, and they are far better to have as residents ..
Guessing you missed some videos then where I met Australians. 😉
I have no idea what Australia you visited but I've been here over 60 years and the onions go on top. Probably some Perth or Melbourne psycho
Agree with the Tomato sauce and American mustard, Love it that way.
Tomato Sauce here in Australia is terrible, and when I moved here from Canada, I brought with me my Heinz Ketchup with me all the way. Agreed with American mustard and they should also put out the American Relish or what you Aussie's call gerkin shit.
sorry let me clairify that - Aussie gerkin IS shit
Hi Lee I watch your videos all the time just having a recap sat hear with a broken ankle but just wanted to let you know that I also when I have a hotdog I put mustard ketchup on my bread first then onion then my sausage it’s less messy when you go in for a bite you don’t get sauce all over your face keep up the good work 👍🏻
Get well soon. 👍🏼
Thank you Lee just watching your latest one love them keep it up mate MOT I know you love Leeds really lol
That place is just like B&Q here in England . xxx
Bunnings bought Homebase in the UK and sold the company very soon afterwards.
