Yes my dtr and her chap went 20 yrs ago🇬🇧 after Uni to 'try' it..and stayed..i have 4 Aussie grandchildren now..they really are 'living the dream'...it is so family geared up,lots to do and see, ive been 3 times it truly is a beautiful City..🇦🇺

A mug of tea does cool you down in the heat and it is better to wash down fish & chips than a fizzy drink.
We call them prawns in Australia, Paul Hogan is the only one who calls them shrimp.
Paul called them shrimp because the yanks wouldn't know what a prawn was to save their lives. 😆👍

LOL! This reminds me of the time I went to Italy with a couple of family groups. It was lunch time so one person dined in the hotel, her husband and adult kids went to McDonald’s and I went to a little Italian restaurant where I ordered some pasta and then some gelato, but before I had finished, my brother called me to see where I was and I told him where to come. He asked me to order for him and his mate, since I had enough Italian to communicate with the staff. I had a second bowl of gelato because it was soooo delicious, and the total for my lunch was $15. When we got back to the hotel, I asked the other family why on earth they went to McDonald’s when they could eat that at home! How can you be in Rome and not eat some Italian food! They complained that Macca’s was a waste of money, too expensive and not as good as back home. Some people do strange things on holiday! 😂🇦🇺

“Put another shrimp on the barbie” is actually not something we ever say. That was purely for Paul Hogan’s script for an ad for Tourism Australia, that would be screened in the USA, where they have shrimp, a different type of crustacean to prawns, which they don’t have. In Australia, we have prawns in many types and sizes. You should really try a King Prawn cooked on the barbie, so you understand what they are and what they taste like. We have an abundance of seafoods because we are surrounded by oceans and so much fresh seafood to try!

You mentioned about a cup of tea would cool you down and you didnt think it was true. It is actually true, a hot drink will cool you down better than a cold drink. My son is a scientist and happily sat and explained it to me years ago as to why. I am a bad mother as I zoned out so cant actually explain the reason why lol 😂😮
My mum used to say that to me
Actually a hot drink won’t cool you down better than a cold drink. Adding heat to cool makes no physiological sense. If the air has very low humidity a hot drink will make you sweat and the surface evaporation of your sweat will cool you down but in high humidity it will make things considerably worse. However why wouldn’t you just apply the cold drink to your skin and let it evaporate too. Works better than consuming a hot drink.

Lee - if you see a dead 'roo on the side of the road ALWAYS ALWAYS check its pouch if it's a female - there may be a joey inside which needs rescuing. Kangaroo Dundee taught that. There are plenty of places that take in rescued joeys. ❤

Controversial, but I think a lot of UK fish and chip shops use frozen fish. Are you telling me they go every morning at 4am to the fish market? (if there is one nowadays) I don't think so.

East coast has different fish! We have Flathead, Ocean Perch, Barramundi, Salmon and Tuna. Our burgers are different too! In Sydney, a burger with the works would include lettuce, tomato, meat or fish of your choice, egg, bacon, beetroot, pineapple, onions, cheese and your favourite choice of sauce. We also have lots of fast food places that are not part of any franchise.
I haven’t been to WA since 2011. You’ve made me want to get back there.

In Melbourne Australia the main fish eaten at fish and chip shops is shark. It is called Flake but it is gummy shark.
