    Good points, I had the opposite issue with the ktm65 forks as they were about 3/4" too short to run a stock 19" wheel so I had to add length to damping rods(older model with no adjustments). Wish I could have done air but then theres no easy or cheap way to add length to an already expensive fork(there are "big wheel" lugs offered that could work)
    All that said, with the TKO cancelled for 2023 and SEER also cancelled when they were going to add electric class, do yall plan on doing any more hard enduro events? That would be needed to test and see if the KO motor actually solves the issue.
    I was planning to run a couple SEER events and TKO but really disappointed its all gone for a year at least. I planned to do TKO and started a build thread on thumpertalk a few year back but just never got the surron where I want it for a race so brutal and having time to get it all sorted. Maybe one day

    Let me get this straight- you’re calling the one with dorados, the stock swing arm and motor a “Frankenstein”… but when you retrofit an aftermarket swing arm, kid style mini-bike forks, and an untested motor - some how it’s no longer “Frankenstein“? … I’m excited to see it!!

      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, we are considering the current set up in this video before the upgrades Frankenstein, We are hoping it becomes a more refined Frankenstein with proper geometry by the end of this build lol

    Have you considered a works components angled headset? Might help lower the front and gain more stability at speed

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are always hesitant to swap the lower surron bearing out with a MTB bearing because a massive motorcycle roller bearing is used and far stronger than anything in the MTB world. It's been very reliable. We have seen a couple people do these types of headsets, but don't know how long they will last with the weight of the Surron.

    What 21" wheel are you planning on using?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the KTM85 hub is 32 spoke and almost all 21" rims are 36h it's a little trickier than normal. The KTM Freeride actually uses the same fork and comes with a 21" wheel, so that is one option. BUT, we are going to bring Gold Excel wheels back to this build so we will be using a KTM85 hub, custom made spokes, and sourcing a 32h Excel Gold rim, which are basically impossible to find right now. We'll be sure to mention how we did this in the next video.

  • @jacobj2851
    @jacobj2851 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about ktm 65 forks instead for the 19 and 16in wheel combo?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, we've asked ourselves that many times. The challenge with that would be getting the fork tuned for the weight of an adult rider since there is a large weight difference between a 65 rider and an adult. BUT, it would be another really interesting experiment. Kind of surprised we haven't seen anyone do this yet. The KTM85 fork is made for a 19/16 setup and it does work really well on the surron, we could do a few things to move the forks up a bit more and choose a different 16" rear tire that is a little taller to dial in the geometry. But, we really want to get an 18/21 wheelset back onto this particular bike to showcase a "large" build.

  • @Vectorebike
    @Vectorebike ปีที่แล้ว

    A lot lighter, but still x2 heavier then Dorado. Or x3?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the KTM air fork is still heavy at 18lbs, where as most of the other MTB based forks meant for Surron are around 9lbs. But this bike is going to be so large and overbuilt that it won't matter. We have the power turned up so high on this bike that nobody cares about the weight of the fork...everyone who has ridden it (before the transformation) was all smiles. :) The biggest issue with the MX forks is they are valved for jumping and racing motocross, they need to be revalved for trail riding to make them more plush which is another expense on top of a very expensive solution. While it's fun to build and show off a bike like this, we recommend other suspension options for 99% of customers, either our tuned FastAce for $1000 or wait for the new EXT fork which is custom made for the Surron/Talaria which will be out early 2023 and that is far less expensive than a Motocross conversion and will most likely out-perform an MX fork on these bikes for all-around use.

      Surron just feels better than any gas bike I’ve been on coming from a 2020 ZX-6r, crf 450, Kawi 250, Bmw s1000 nothing compares to surron prefer it to any gas bike on the market today

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The surron is certainly one of those bikes that you just don't understand until you ride one. I can't tell you how many motocross guys laugh at us and then as soon we we get them to ride one they come back with a gigantic grin on their face saying "ok, that was a lot of fun I get it now". You have to experience it to understand why people love them so much.

      @@ChargedCycleWorks I can’t explain how fun the bike is literally everytime I get on the thing I’m just in awe and I’m still on stock DNM suspension. My previous bikes the only time I’d be in “awe” is if I’m going 170+ down the highway on the verge of killing myself. With the sur Ron I can do street riding trails anything enduro anything!!! Like name another gas bike that can do that? I can even ride on the sidewalks without the cops glancing an eye you can literally take the bike anywhere. Why aren’t more people hyping this bike up it’s the best thing to come to the motorcycle industry.

    Change the motor should of been the first thing!

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure we follow, you cannot change the motor without first upgrading both the controller and battery. And we would also argue that without MX wheels, tires, and great suspension all the power that a KO system can output is just about useless off-road. For us our priorities typically go in this order: 1) Cockpit to fit body better 2) Wheels and Tires for superior traction and handling 3) Suspension 4) Power via Battery and Controller and Brakes 5) Extreme mods such as a KO motor. We know many jump to power first....this is America where bigger is better (right)...but as racers we've learned long ago that power is nothing without great traction and handling. But we understand why so many go straight to the power...it's fun! Be sure to watch part2 to see how it all turned out and Part 3 will drop tomorrow where we answer all the questions asked on Social Media about the build.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thomasmclean4020 If you're willing to spend the money it would cost to do a KTM fork conversion and you are a trail rider we would encourage you to wait for the EXT fork that will launch early spring. It should have performance and adjustability and strength to satisfy just about any need. The only thing we are not liking about the KTM fork is it's not very plush since it's meant for Motocross, we'll probably end up revalving it and spending even more money on an already expensive solution.
