DRIVING 2 TOTALED BMWs 1,000 Miles To Be SCRAPPED

  • Hoovie's Garage is done with his two mechanically totaled BMWs. The very rare supercharged Alpina B7 sport sedan, and the ultimate in luxury BMW 760Li with a V12 under the hood. J&J Auto Wrecking bought them from him for parts so we're going to drive the cars 1,000 miles in one day to their final resting place. This roadtrip was unbelievably fun and I really didn't want to give the Alpina up at the end... but the next morning, it got far worse. Stay tuned!

      he could get a cleaner b7 for that money. And these b7 might never go up in value because of just how bad the reliability is. not only poor reliability, but also how much it would actually cost to constantly repair it. It's so complex, unlike the older beamers. And these BMW's aren't as universally loved as the older ones as well. Things could change, but i doubt it.

    • @travisc7506
      @travisc7506 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@povilasmarveloustv3810 he may never find a cleaner B7 sadly. Back when they were new it was a pretty niche car. Most dealers only had 1 and they sat in the showroom not selling. They were more expensive then a 760 of the time and most people in the market for a 7 series didn't care about the performance. I remember my dealer had a black one just like Hoovie's and it was still sitting in the showroom a year later with a big cut in price.

    I did a 12 hour trek with a friend in Volvo truck with a car hauler to pick up 3 wagons all together last week. Picked up a 05 Passat 4motion wagon, a 04 Volvo V70R AWD Wagon, and a gem of a 09 Saab 9-3 Aero wagon (XWD, eLSD, and the 2.8T all with a 6 speed manual is way too much fun). The VW and Saab are mostly in great shape, couple signs of light wear that come with 100-140k miles. The 215k mile Volvo is smoking on start but I haggled the price down to a point where I accept repairing that. I do all the work myself at my shop so I'm not too worried.
    I'm a sucker for wagons and I spent less than 10 grand on all 3 together so I'm happy. I've been wanting the Saab and Volvo for a while already having a 9-2x Aero and a 750R. The VW was just a solid find that I've been driving since, I like the 20V 1.8t's and the DSG + 4motion has been working great for me and is now my daily.

    From where I come from(Estonia), a car is not considered totaled until it is a absolute pile of rust. Nobody here will scrap a car that has a solid body, even the crashed ones will be fixed up again(ex: Arthur Tussik's channel).

    This actually breaks my heart a bit. My dad has had multiple of this generation 7 series for work (just want to point out they both ended with 300k+ miles, but damn it cost to get them that far) I fully get why they’re getting this final outcome, that’s for sure, but they hold a special place in my heart lol. RIP you lovely vehicles, you’ll be missed by no ones wallets, but by my dreams

    Am I alone in feeling BMW sedans and Coupes age very well? Even 06 era ones seem to hold up well (not including the new tech options) but style very well. Thoughts?

    Seriously heart wrenching watching this, Having owned BMW's my who life I hate to see a couple beautiful and rare in the case of the B7 cars going to their deaths. On the same note this is why I would never buy a 7 series. Pretty sad when you see are car that was over $100,000 new and its now worth less then my 3 series that's actually a couple years older then those cars. The valve seal issue was a problem with that generation of 7 and 5 series. Its since been fixed on the newer BMW's. In most cases people buy these cars when they cant afford the upkeep on them. They ignore problems until they get to this point. Enthusiasts know to stay away from this generation 5 and 7 series like its the plague but unfortunately a lot of people don't know this. However the depreciation of these cars should be an indicator to anyone looking at a used BMW. If the price seems too good to be true that's because it is. The generation prior to these was actually pretty solid. Which is why you still see the 1999 - 2001 740i Sport selling upwards of the mid 20's for a low mileage well taken care of example. All in all a BMW is a BMW and not a Toyota. You just have to know what to expect which is keeping up on maintenance. When people don't do their homework you end up buying cars like these. No offense to Tyler lol as buying broken cars is the whole premise to his channel. I currently own 2 BMWs. My M240i is still under warranty so I cant attest to the reliability of that car but my 2004 325ci still runs like a champ. Mostly because I took care of the maintenance. Had a few surprises in the 16 years and 110,000 miles I have owned the car (purchased new in 2004) but overall just keeping up with everything it has been a pretty reliable car. So much so that I cant bring myself to part with it lol.

    You should have put 50 weight oil into the engine. I had a 74 Chevrolet pickup that had a 454 and it used 5 gallons of oil in 750 miles. No smoke, but I found out that these engine had bad valve problems. Your trip is a thumbs up and thanks for sharing your story.

    I had an almost identical Alpina, it was burning oil out a tailpipe bad... would come and go. I spent $14000 on different "Fixes" an in the end it just turned out to be a simple plastic valve that was dumping oil into cylinder, $35 fix. I was convinced the motor was bad. What an amazing car after.. I guess its common issue on them.

    At the price of those cars, they should last practically forever.
    So much for German engineering.

    When my brother had his first steady girlfriend back during the 1980's his girlfriend drove this green Ford Pinto which my brother kept pouring waste oil in the engine since it burned oil so much.
