I Bought A TOTALED Kia Optima SIGHT UNSEEN From COPART

  • It was time to rebuild a Copart car, something I've never done before. I jumped on Copart to buy a Chevy Volt and ended up winning a totaled 2016 Kia Optima LX. Then we headed over to the auction yard to pick up the car and it was a disaster but still a bit better than my expectations, this is turning into a fun late model project!

What do I do for a living? Make TH-cam videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

On ALL GDI engines, you have to spray the CRC Intake cleaner into the throttle body at a minimum of every 10,000 miles! The injectors in these engines doesn’t spray on the back of the valves anymore and the cleaner cleans them so it runs 100% better and better gas mileage! We’ve had 3 Kia’s and now a 2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport! Have did this to every one

Black fiesta with 17k miles, interior was even more trashed than yours, and the trunk was the same but literally twice as much crap. It cleaned up incredibly well though, besides the smoke smell. My fees were about $500 on a $1000 bid.

    • @rachelblack3816

Even if he sells this car at significant loss, he's pulling down big bucks from TH-cam; JR buying cars, the making videos of the repairs, and then selling the car (even at a loss), is like the money you spend on paint when you are painting something that will sell for high $$$. The cost of the car is just a minor expense; the profit is from the TH-cam vid, not selling the car.

Love what your doing John Ross, over here in the UK that car would definitely have been stripped for parts and what ever was left would of been scrapped! Fair play to ya man 🙂

Doesn't the airbag module itself cook and need replacement after an accident? The Honda service manual for my 02 specifically says it does. So you've got to disassemble the seat to replace that airbag, find the bloody airbag module wherever kia hid it in the dashboard, replace the curtain airbag, and then cajole the "new" module into working with this particular ECM/pray it isn't VIN coded. The whole reason a lot of these cars are totaled is the cost of the SRS system, not the cost of the actual fixes.

Definitely looking forward to seeing you doing these... It's something different on your channel since you've never done a copart car before. My tow truck company I work for did pickups and transports for copart but now we do it for adesa. You should look into them as well.

The Airbag module needs to be replaced to if you ever want the system to function properly again. don't forget a new headliner as well because it might look good on the outside, but it trashed on the inside. also the seats air bags are serviced together with the seat. you may find a yard that will pull them and sell them separately (like mine) but finding a yard that is willing to even keep one of these seats is even harder. we classify car on A, B and C grade. these cars are a hard C or C-. absolutely worthless. pull the motor and sell it and scrap the rest.

My first copart car 2011 Cadillac sts, going to be a nice car. It's still on the trailer. Easy haul was a no show, had to drive to st. Louis to get it. That was a nightmare. If I lived over in witchita I would have got cars from copart years ago. Now my wife says we not doing that again! Now I can only get copart cars from witchita, or Tulsa, Lol.

The KIA's are supposedly very strong so might be fine. Friend of mine has a KIA Optima GT (Wagon) and its super nice inside and out, especially for its price. Quilted leather seats and got driving assist features, backup cam ofc, think its a 8 speed gearbox? or is it 7, not sure... auto ofc... DCT even, and it shifts super fast and smooth, cant feel it shift at all. Only downside is that it has poor power for a modern car, just 143 hp or something, a diesel tho. Look alot like a BMW inside, apparently KIA has alot of EX BMW designers... :D They have owned it for over 3 years now and its been going strong, never an issue.
