Not exactly a blockbuster but in 1997 McDonalds had a series of 4 plastic plates for Disney's Hercules movie. I still have the Pegasus one

Yeah I remember those. I too had Pegasus which came with Meg as well as Cerberus that came with Hades. It was neat how the small figures could go inside the bigger ones. Ps Sorry I miss read your comment. I thought you were talking about the toys. Didn't know they made plates too.

My parents got those dishes, and the happy meal toys were cool, but all that is gone.

As for ghostbusters, that wasn't much merch for the first film bc it was targeted to adults but the kids (including me) loved it hence why a cartoon came afterwards and the 2nd movie got influenced by the cartoon.

Great video. Some notes--Don't forget the star trek movie happy meal if that counts. 2. Goonies did have a tie in. Godfathers pizza had goonies glasses. There is an ad on youtube for them. 3. You missed an american tail books and christmas ornaments at mcdonalds. 4. Pizza hut had the care bear movie glasses. 5. Great muppet caper had mcdonalds glasses also.

@@PNPVideocast Burger Chef actually invented the happy meal under their own name before McDonalds and the rest imitated it.

@@nicholassheffo5723 It was called the Funmeal. They even had a Star Wars version of it surprisingly before McDonald's in like 78'.

79'/80' was the Star Trek The Motion Picture Happy Meal Promotion. What's kinda neat about it is that it's the 1st film based Happy Meal.

I still have my Taco Bell Batman cup from 1989. Not a blockbuster (and forgotten for a reason), but I remember McDonald's heavily promoting Mac and Me back when it first came out. One of few movies where McDonald's is featured IN the movie.

I remember seeing that Tacobell Godzilla ad on television just thought it was a strange design for that iconic character. As far as my fast-food toy keeping goes, I kept a Rapidash from Pokemon the First Movie. It still works luckily.
My little daughter has a Peach toy from that animated Super Mario Bros film and a toy of Luca from Pixar' Luca so the saga of film toys still continues. I try to not over do it though because I feel bad most of the items are plastic.
I hope companies will bring back the genuine glasses it just more eco and appears more valuable.

One that you missed that I fondly remember was in 1988 when Pizza Hut had 'The Land Before Time' puppets. Don't know if it counts as a blockbuster but it was really popular at the time. My sisters and I pretty much had all of them; except Petrie.

Well, the Burger King tie ins with Disney were interesting. It started because the Mcdonalds Dick Tracey promo didn’t go well for McDonalds. Also McDonalds was giving Disney a hard time. So from Beauty and the Beast to the Oliver and Company re release in 1997, Disney partnered with Burger King. In 1997, McDonald’s promised Disney they’d be easier to work with, promoting Disney to go back to McDonald’s

I wasn't born until 1997, so the vast majority of these I don't have personal memory of. Though there is a remnant of the McDonald's 1998 promotional campaign for Mulan in my parents' bedroom for some reason.

My brother in Christ how could you skip the first Pokémon movie? That was the single biggest fast food tie in in history and it also had a scandal when kids choked on the poke balls.

You can argue the summer blockbuster really started with George Lucas' American Graffiti, though it certainly didn't match in scope either Jaws or Star Wars. You also should mention the Indiana Jones films in the 80s by Lucas & Spielberg.. Lucas & Spielberg really invented the whole thing between the two of them.

    • @PNPVideocast
      @PNPVideocast  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Absolutely. I tired limiting it to blockbusters with fast food tie-ins but squeezed Indy in with toys and a soda contest. Also, in the wrap up with the BK ad for Crystal Skull. I’m surprised there wasn’t more!

Santa Clause: The Movie (1985) had a McDonalds tie-in, though not a summer movie or a blockbuster. Not a very good movie, but as a child in the '80s I remember this being on every commercial break. I knew it would be a cold day in hell the day my parents would take me.
