He managed to stop a new man bearing a koi tatoo from going down the dark path his own brother went into. I wonder if Kiryu sees in Ichiban some of the kind of man he hoped Nishiki would become in his absence. Not like Kiryu would ever bring that up to anyone, even less so to Ichiban.

I put both Ichiban and Saeko into host and hostess and Namba and used Eri in that fight. and yeah Namba did eat shit but with 3 ice attackers Kiryu went down without too much issue

I've seen some people say Kiryu's inclusion makes no sense to the story, but honestly I think it makes complete sense. He got a chance to end the Yakuza and took it.

I mean, the poor guy literally sacrifice his chane of a normal peaceful life over and over again because of Tojo and Omi problems. If a chance to finally put a end on the criminal actions of both groups in a good way appears Kiryu definitely would like to take some part to made that happen. Like he actually did. So yeah, besides wanting Kiryu in the game just because he's awesome, his presence made total sense.

Well not really, because that shortens the window of targets for Kiryu and if Ichiban goes down, it's game over. you have Saeko and Eri out Ichiban becomes the target 1/2 the time and higher risk of losing.

@@ping5258 I find that Nanba is capable of surviving a majority of the fight as long as you spam Malodorus Breath to lower Kiryu’s attack throughout the fight. But he WILL NOT survive the Beast style phase as he gets two-shotted, so it’s important to switch Nanba out during that part
20:33 I know this is just visual effects, but if we take the scene quite literally and remove the dragon, Kiryu is strong and fast enough to deal airblows strong enough to knock a person back and break a steel door with them. This man is NOT human anymore.

Jesus. You don't just have to fight him, you get to be on the recieving end of "Come at me if you want to die!" Plus, that damage he does, and how much he resists certain attack types, but it seems appropriate for going up against the biggest legend of the Tojo Clan. (of course a Dragon is weak to ice...) Also, I love the fact he cycles through the styles he's learned over the years, ending with his classic Dragon style, as though to say 'You've learned all this over the years with me...and now it's time to put you to the ultimate test.'
The truly scary thing is that Kiryu isn't even remotely trying in this fight and it's clear to tell when he's only doing two hits when you consider the combo's he's really capable of, nevermind the weapons he's capable of wielding, plus all the training over the years AND the fact he doesn't use a single heat action during the fight either. If it weren't for the government, Kiryu could have easily resolved this whole Ryo Aoki problem and beaten the lieutenants long before they started causing shit.

Fun Fact: Kiryu will never hit women. I was not prepared for this fight but once I discovered he completely ignored Saeko, I put Eri in and I won. Felt so cheap after though 😭😭😭😭
My headcanon is that he probably wore out Saeko in reality by wasting her stamina. Probably from dodging her attacks or no selling them. It sucks that we’ll never get Kiryu in Tekken because Nagoshi says that Kiryu never hits women (or females in general) despite doing it in Kiwami during a substory and slapping Haruka. :(

Well, the obvious reason must be because they (RGG Studios) hadn't thought of Gaiden. For the lore, my guess is he wanted to test Ichiban as Kiryu. Daidoji maybe knows that Ichi never met Kiryu before (and because of that, Ichi and the gang also didn't know about Morning Glory kids), so maybe they just let Kiryu do that, i guess? I'm pretty sure someone in the Daidoji was reluctant with Kiryu being himself meeting Ichiban, but probably Hanawa convinces them? There's many possibilities during that story gap, so mine is definitely not 100% correct
thank you devilion for not using the same 4 moves like every other video i ve seen of this fight im honestly surprised that this isnt one of those boss fights where the game forces Ichi into Freelancer, although considering who you're facing, thats probably a good thing
Imagine if Haruka knew and came to help her foster father and decides the girls will be her opponent and proceeds to show what she could really do from cheering Kiryu on to using certain dance techniques as damage dealers. Plus innate resistance and dodge from all damage received from Kasuga and friends.
Imagine if Kiryu could actually turn into a Shenron sized dragon and he is actually a dragon inhabiting the body of a human, because dragons can't exist in their true forms in Yakuzaverse so they have to assume the form of humans. So what Ichiban sees isn't his imagination. This is the actual Kiryu.
I honestly believe that the thing that makes this fight so much better? It's not just that Kiryu utilizes his other styles and such... It's that you KNOW the ins and outs of the styles from the get-go. You know that Rush is the evasive style, that Beast is the heavy-hitter... The rest of the games have basically been a giant study session into this very fight.
He wouldn't sugarcoat it. Full Combo - basic Tiger Drop - major counter Evade and Strike - lesser counter That double E move with a fucking somersault - evasion Essence of Mad Dog: Demon - That wasn't a health bar, that was a patience bar and it's already empty.
Yakuza 7 was my first Yakuza, I had no idea who tf this Kiryu guy even was. As soon as the fight started I realised this mf was the real protagonist after tanking Ichiban's fist with his face without flinching 💀
I could see this being as a minigame for kiryu after the events of 6 where he works as a hired bodyguard just to get some money and ichiban being the final boss of the minigame.
the one thing that would make this fight cooler imo is if they made it so that the whole "title of character, name of character" instead of saying "ex-tojo clan 4th chairman, kazuma kiryu" is if it said The Dragon of Dojima *Kazuma Kiryu*
Even though ichiban lost, the fact that he sent Kiryu sliding backwards even if it’s a little bit, speaks volumes to his potential of strength. I love that after the fight when Ichiban calls him the real deal, Kiryu himself even says he got a feel for Ichiban and he has a way to go, and says someday he will become the real deal. Kiryu sees potential for Ichiban to be as powerful as him.
We all know that you can only beat kiryu in an rpg style fight. If this is the brawler style. We all will be handed our asses before we can even hit pause.
I’m so happy that Kiryu uses all his three styles back from 0 and Kiwami, both of these are my first Yakuza games. However, I find it weird that they give Kiryu’s Brawler set with the Dragon Engine combat from 6 and Kiwami 2. Yet, they give the Brawler moveset to Kaito in Judgement. His Dragon of Dojima moveset in here is the same one before Dragon Engine was a thing.
I really like that Ichiban has the same VA as Nishiki. On top of that, his outfit is a reverses colour scheme of Kiryu's. Really like the symbolism that he's both similar, while being different than Kiryu. I'm definitely not the first to notice this, but haven't seen any comments as such.
Man I know stuff like this is commonplace in Yakuza but imagine getting full-force decked in the forehead by a guy built like Ichiban and just not even moving or flinching
This comes off as escalating comedy about how impossible Kiryu is to kill. They hit him with more and more elaborate lethal moves, karambit, neck-stomps, glaives, gun-kata, a FUCKING ORBITAL LASER. He punches them in the face and knocks they asses out (but only the men).

It may or may not be a common known fact but I find it cool that kiryu’s AI was programmed to NOT hurt the girls. Like no joke if the girls are in your party you’re basically inmortal as he will not hurt them.
Well not really, because that shortens the window of targets for Kiryu and if Ichiban goes down, it's game over. you have Saeko and Eri out Ichiban becomes the target 1/2 the time and higher risk of losing.

Yeah, I considered switching to Saeko and Eri for this fight once I realised what was going on... then I realised that I would be funneling even more Kiryu ass-whoopery onto Kasuga.
@@ping5258 I find that Nanba is capable of surviving a majority of the fight as long as you spam Malodorus Breath to lower Kiryu’s attack throughout the fight. But he WILL NOT survive the Beast style phase as he gets two-shotted, so it’s important to switch Nanba out during that part

20:33 I know this is just visual effects, but if we take the scene quite literally and remove the dragon, Kiryu is strong and fast enough to deal airblows strong enough to knock a person back and break a steel door with them. This man is NOT human anymore.

Jesus. You don't just have to fight him, you get to be on the recieving end of "Come at me if you want to die!" Plus, that damage he does, and how much he resists certain attack types, but it seems appropriate for going up against the biggest legend of the Tojo Clan. (of course a Dragon is weak to ice...)
Also, I love the fact he cycles through the styles he's learned over the years, ending with his classic Dragon style, as though to say 'You've learned all this over the years with me...and now it's time to put you to the ultimate test.'
The truly scary thing is that Kiryu isn't even remotely trying in this fight and it's clear to tell when he's only doing two hits when you consider the combo's he's really capable of, nevermind the weapons he's capable of wielding, plus all the training over the years AND the fact he doesn't use a single heat action during the fight either.
If it weren't for the government, Kiryu could have easily resolved this whole Ryo Aoki problem and beaten the lieutenants long before they started causing shit.

The big thing this battle was missing that would have made it toppest tier was to make that final dragon scene actually playable. Bonus points for doing it with an old school style RPG menu.

Fun Fact: Kiryu will never hit women. I was not prepared for this fight but once I discovered he completely ignored Saeko, I put Eri in and I won. Felt so cheap after though 😭😭😭😭
My headcanon is that he probably wore out Saeko in reality by wasting her stamina. Probably from dodging her attacks or no selling them.
It sucks that we’ll never get Kiryu in Tekken because Nagoshi says that Kiryu never hits women (or females in general) despite doing it in Kiwami during a substory and slapping Haruka. :(

eri as hostess to exploit ice weakness, saeko as idol to heal, guard with ichi every turn with that endure fatal blow skill always on, and joon as an extra body to take hits since kiryu won't hit the girls lmao
On Legend it was Ichiban buffing attack and healing, Joon gi just using ice bucket and eri with ice spreader, and saeko as on idol
Saeko for Ice spreader, Ichi for healing/blocking and Han Joon-Gi for poison after stance switch and Nanba for debuffing
The real question is why did the Daidoji let Joryu wear Kiryu's iconic outfit and fight Ichiban.
Well, the obvious reason must be because they (RGG Studios) hadn't thought of Gaiden.
For the lore, my guess is he wanted to test Ichiban as Kiryu. Daidoji maybe knows that Ichi never met Kiryu before (and because of that, Ichi and the gang also didn't know about Morning Glory kids), so maybe they just let Kiryu do that, i guess?
I'm pretty sure someone in the Daidoji was reluctant with Kiryu being himself meeting Ichiban, but probably Hanawa convinces them?
There's many possibilities during that story gap, so mine is definitely not 100% correct

im honestly surprised that this isnt one of those boss fights where the game forces Ichi into Freelancer, although considering who you're facing, thats probably a good thing
Imagine if Haruka knew and came to help her foster father and decides the girls will be her opponent and proceeds to show what she could really do from cheering Kiryu on to using certain dance techniques as damage dealers. Plus innate resistance and dodge from all damage received from Kasuga and friends.
So basically make the battle practically impossible

Imagine if Kiryu could actually turn into a Shenron sized dragon and he is actually a dragon inhabiting the body of a human, because dragons can't exist in their true forms in Yakuzaverse so they have to assume the form of humans. So what Ichiban sees isn't his imagination. This is the actual Kiryu.

I honestly believe that the thing that makes this fight so much better? It's not just that Kiryu utilizes his other styles and such... It's that you KNOW the ins and outs of the styles from the get-go. You know that Rush is the evasive style, that Beast is the heavy-hitter... The rest of the games have basically been a giant study session into this very fight.
Coming from Gaiden we are lucky Kiryu doesn't use any of the Daidoji equipment in this fight

Yakuza 7 was my first Yakuza, I had no idea who tf this Kiryu guy even was. As soon as the fight started I realised this mf was the real protagonist after tanking Ichiban's fist with his face without flinching 💀
I could see this being as a minigame for kiryu after the events of 6 where he works as a hired bodyguard just to get some money and ichiban being the final boss of the minigame.
I love it when everyone uses their craziest techniques, and Kiryu takes like 23 damage

This is probably the most badass fight intro in the whole series. Kiryu gets punched in the head and it looks like it hurt Ichiban more.
Even though ichiban lost, the fact that he sent Kiryu sliding backwards even if it’s a little bit, speaks volumes to his potential of strength.
I love that after the fight when Ichiban calls him the real deal, Kiryu himself even says he got a feel for Ichiban and he has a way to go, and says someday he will become the real deal. Kiryu sees potential for Ichiban to be as powerful as him.
We all know that you can only beat kiryu in an rpg style fight. If this is the brawler style. We all will be handed our asses before we can even hit pause.
Still epic to hear that original Receive You from Y1 when Ichiban takes off his top half.
I’m so happy that Kiryu uses all his three styles back from 0 and Kiwami, both of these are my first Yakuza games. However, I find it weird that they give Kiryu’s Brawler set with the Dragon Engine combat from 6 and Kiwami 2. Yet, they give the Brawler moveset to Kaito in Judgement. His Dragon of Dojima moveset in here is the same one before Dragon Engine was a thing.

I really like that Ichiban has the same VA as Nishiki. On top of that, his outfit is a reverses colour scheme of Kiryu's. Really like the symbolism that he's both similar, while being different than Kiryu.

This comes off as escalating comedy about how impossible Kiryu is to kill. They hit him with more and more elaborate lethal moves, karambit, neck-stomps, glaives, gun-kata, a FUCKING ORBITAL LASER. He punches them in the face and knocks they asses out (but only the men).
