    Just something interesting that the youtuber tehsnakerer noted about this fight.
    Kiryu serves as the final obstacle to aizawa’s dream. As the fight progresses, we see kiryu pushing Aizawa further and further away from the Tojo clan HQ until they’re literally outside, symbolizing Kiryu slowly crushing Aizawa’s dream to be chairman.

    I'm guessing that Aizawa was supposed to mirror Kiryu's relationship with their fathers setting up legacies for them.
    Kazama always wanted what was best for Kiryu (as we saw in Zero) and essentially gave him the top seat as chairman in Sera's will to make him the peak of what it was to be Yakuza. Kiryu cared for Kazama, and likewise.
    Aizawa on the other hand had no relationship with his father, until his father concocted the plan to make Aizawa the leader of both the Tojo and Omi; not because he cared for his son, but out of a selfish desire to use his son to continue his own legacy. Aizawa despised this, but only took it so he could prove to himself that he could reach the peak of being a Yakuza by defeating Kiryu. Not because it was the wish of his father, but for his own legacy.
    And then, of course, is the opposition between Aizawa and his dad, to Haruka with Kiryu.
    Too bad the game didn't communicate Aizawa's motives all that well or how he's the appropriate final boss!

      I disagree with this reading of Tsubasa. Yes he wanted to leave something behind and prove his stance on yakuza to be better than that of main cast, but he chose Aizawa specifically and more importantly, he didn't want Aizawa to go through the same process he did to get to the top. Aizawa's too naive to notice this unfortunately.

    • @REDEEMERWOLF
      @REDEEMERWOLF 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Good take. Also fits with the dream theme of Y5.
      Is Aizawa fighting for his own dream or is he fighting on behalf of his father's dream? It mirrors Haruka's struggle in this game, in which she was still figuring out if the idol world was really Haruka's dream or was it Park's dream?

    • @DJKennedy90
      @DJKennedy90 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@DrearyMiri I wouldn't say that. Kazuma never wanted Kiryu (or Nishiki) to join the Yakuza, they basically begged & guilt tripped him.
      Hell, it's outright stated that part of Kazama's plan in 0 was that Kiryu could try to make a legit life in real estate. So Kazama would have at least approved of Kiryu leaving to be a father and leaving the Tojo in (what was thought to be) capable hands with Teru, who was Kazuma's ally.
      He at least got to meet his future surrogate granddaughter before he sacrificed himself.

    I said it before certainly but I think it deserves saying again. I always liked that touch of... mixed excitement and hesitance that Aizawa has when Kiryu reveals his own wound. The realization of him finally having a chance at standing up against a living legend coupled with the realization that what Kiryu throws at him won't even be his best due to the Dragon being gutshot. I'd almost wager that he considered, for a moment, standing down because if he won, it'd be a hollow victory.
    Honestly, he has protagonist vibes for me. I wouldn't mind seeing a Judgment-esque spinoff with him, giving him a lot more much needed screentime to develop his character.

If there was more screentime for Aizawa, I think he'd probably be one of my favorite antagonists. He still makes for one of the best boss fights in the series (if not the best), so kudos to him.

    And here it is, one of the most epic final boss fights in the whole series. Ironic that after all Kurosawa did to leave behind for his son, aizawa ultimately just wanted a chance to fight Kiryu to prove himself (hardly the first time that's happened). And that he can soak up at least 12 health bars (or thereabouts) of a beating from a half-dead Kiryu and just keep going. He must have been seriously holding back earlier in the story.
    Also, is he supposedly to be mirroring Nishki in this fight? As he has a white suit on, and he also has a carp tattoo on his back. Though that also shows that he's on the verge of becoming a legend of his own, and all he needs to do is slay a dragon to do it.

    The biggest torture with Aizawa is that he wasn't a sinister guy, he wasn't evil, and he wasn't altogether that bad; he just had ambition and a longing desire to see it through, training and working tirelessly for it. He hated his estranged father's plot to make him the head of Tojo and Omi without any work; he knew it would have no meaning if he couldn't prove he was the best, and THAT is why he had to fight Kiryu. And Kiryu understood this and gave him his fight, even saying that he doesn't think Aizawa's line of thinking is wrong.
    And then, even after all of that, Kiryu says to keep trying, keep struggling, and he'll be ready to fight Aizawa again when he picks himself back up... but then they never let that chance happen; they just dropped him entirely. It sucks so bad.

      Im interested to meet Y5 people from ichiban's perspective. Judging that Watase still serves as Omi's captain in Yakuza 7 looks like its Katsuya who stepped up as the chairman. Hoping to meet Aizawa and Katsuya as Ichiban, maybe also Kuze and Shibusawa from 0.
      Also trivia and spoiler, Aizawa and Ryo Aoki (other name Masato Arakawa, main antagonist in Y7) shares the same first name (masato), and they both sons of some yakuza top boss (kurosawa and masumi Arakawa both served as chairman of Omi for some time).

      This is my opinion, but if Aizawa was going to be the final villain of the game, they should've had him be the one to kill Aoyoma at the end of the early Kiryu portion instead of his oath brother Morinaga. Had they done this, the build up for this character and him being part of some sort of Yakuza conspiracy to the final villain would've felt more natural. Having Morinaga act like the one of the main players of the conspiracy, lie about killing his oath brother and then die off screen before all the playable characters unite leaves me to question, what the heck was the point of this character?.

    1. Remove the battle against him as Saejima, keep his power ambiguous before the final battle.
    2. Make him more plot relevant and built up, foreshadow him at least once or twice more with hints linking him to Kurosawa or his ambitions.

    • @kaz101
      @kaz101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I don't think so. Aizawa is definitely strong, but I personally doubt that he could compare to Kiryu at full strength. I think it was only such a difficult battle for Kiryu because of his wound.
      If Kiryu was at full strength, I imagine Aizawa would only have like 2 health bars for him to beat.

    I just beat this game and I don't know why people often rate it so low, I loved it, from start to finish.
    Not only it adds a lot of new, refreshing mechanics but the story also wasn't that bad, sure, Aizawa being a twist villain is so dumb, but aside from that I feel like this game is tied with Zero as in how good it is.

  • @lukecwolf
    @lukecwolf ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Some things i had the double check about the fight.
    Kiryu constantly checks his wound but Aizawa never aims at it. Aizawas moves always aim at his uoper body or grapple at the hip. Kind of cool that Aizawa wants to prove himself that he can win without a handicap. Kiryu also bleeds more intensely through the fight, which is a weird way to show someone overcoming weakness, considering he almost dies from bloodloss.
    .
    This ending is going to be in my head for a while.

    Logic Aside (sorry Leon I couldn't resist), this was honestly a Brilliant Final Boss. :^)
    Maybe not exactly story wise, given how he's just a last minute twist villain with little time to develop properly, but Gameplay wise it was honestly amazing! Probably one of my favourite Final Bosses, other than Shibusawa and Nishika, all things considered.
    (Edit: Also, the Music Syncs you achieved in this Video are absolutely Top Notch! I'm guessing we'll need a new Music Sync compilation Video in the near future... ;) )

    I honestly think this was the thought process of the writers: "Alright its time for the big final boss at the end of the game which we can't make Kurosawa since he's a sick old man... And there isn't really anyone else we can make final boss... Fuck it, let's make a new character and insert him in random parts of the story and make him the final boss that's a good idea."

    like, I'm disappointed that the longest main campaign in the franchise couldn't find time to give its final boss much more than half an hour of screentime (this boss fight included, honestly)... but hot damn, they went hard on a guy i was smacking the daylights out of 40 hours earlierm
