  • Today we visit a graveyard in Killegy, Killarney, Kerry.
Rumoured for having satanic rituals and visited by many paranormal groups.
Killegy hold several amazing crypts and vaults with skelatal remains.
Killegy also has Irelands tallest Celtic Cross and a man who wished to be entombed sitting up in his vault to watch over his home in Muckross House in Killarney.
On Exploring the graves and vaults we find one of the most strange, sad and interesting inscriptions we have ever found. After cleaning the slab we discover a man deserted by friends and family who served in the army.
Thanks to his son finding his private papers we can now read what this man wanted as his inscription.

Sad to think james had a family that deserted him and has no friends.
But james had the courage to serve his country and his king.
I'm quite sure james holds a special place in the arms of the lord.
People of Ireland can be proud of this hero.
    Greetings from Connecticut USA 🇺🇸

The thing is, Ireland was colonised by the British and at the time, Irish people had nothing but hatred for everything associated with England, and they would never call an English king their King. They would have disowned him, not been proud of him.

I think you all were drawn to James McGrath on purpose, it's almost as if he wanted to be remembered, if only by strangers. He knew he was an honorable man even though others may not have stuck by him, at least his son inherited his decency and did the honorable thing by making that plaque. Thank you GV for showing us a glimpse into somebody else's life. And what a beautiful cemetery! I too have seen the other videos; that Celtic cross is like no other, and the view! Breathtaking. Thank you guys and safe trip home.

I was so touched by the inscription and thrilled that GV managed to clean off the moss so that he could read the whole thing. I reckon you were directed to that plaque so that James' name could be heard and all watching could hear of his life and of his passing. Something made you stop there and investigate more. I am sure that wealthy guy's body is BEHIND that wall.. because, in the video you can see the two coffins are in a basically narrow room but there is still quite a bit of distance from there to the spot right underneath the Cross. So, the actual owner of that elaborate grave is right underneath that Cross, that means behind that red wall...he must have been given a seperate room behind those red bricks. And those are not candles, they are salty discarges from the roof/above soil over a long period.

  • @benbaker2965

Hi Sue it's been a while since I commented because I'm so busy with my own channel among other things. I still drop by though when I can and as usual all very interesting. I was thinking about the trouble you guys had in trying to clear away moss and dirt from James McGrath's resting place (21:27) and maybe a little hand brush you can get from any DIY store with stiff bristles in your backpack would come in handy more often than you think. Plus it would make the job of clearing away all that rubbish easier. Perhaps a bottle of tap water would help too but I do appreciate the fact you guys walk hills and climb which is hard enough on its own without adding the weight of water. Just a thought that's all Sue. But keep going with this great work on your channel because what you are also doing is immortalizing all these locations for future generations (far from being born yet) to see here before these places deteriorate a lot more and then lost forever. Can you imagine in 40 or 50 years time when 'WE' are all gone what people then will make of your videos? Your channel is a gem waiting to sparkle even more because all it takes is time 😉👍 Take Care and continued success to you both.

I will tell you , sometimes one just gets a feeling and you found the plaque and cleared it. I say it’s God’s way at times. The home we lived before we moved, I was just given this feeling that I should look out the front door. I don’t do that very often. So I look out the front door and look across the the street at the neighbors yard. Then I see it. He was laying on the ground with his big Harley motorcycle on top of him. That motorcycle is heavy. I ran to our backyard and yelled at my husband that I neighbor was trapped under his motorcycle and could be hurt. Lucky for the neighbor the ground was soft from rain. My husband lifted it and he crawled out from under it. “God’s intervention “! That’s what it was! That neighbor was 72 years old.

I wonder how well a fiber-optic camera that plugs into your phone would work, so that you could slip it in between the bars when you're viewing vaults?

Indecently there's a Celtic Cross tucked away in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. And It's quite a bit bigger. I came across it in the middle of the night the first time and I was under the influence let's just say, and I couldn't find it again until 18 years later! You should look it up you might like to have a look at it. Plus, How crazy would it have been if the guy was Actually just sitting there in a chair with a very dusty suit!

    • @SerenitySueGraveyards
      @SerenitySueGraveyards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'll look it up, yes I'd of loved to see a strange shaped coffin or a man in a dusty suit

Ireland must have some of the most beautiful celebrations in the world although I had to attend the funeral of my sister yesterday she died apart 18th 2023 and was buried yesterday the cemetery is an old one dating back to the 1700 in one place with 1800s and present day nearer the back of it

It must be that you cause a happy spark of appreciation from some folk who have lost track of the whereabouts of their ancestors but find them via a chance video shot of a gravestone in some abandoned, forgotten cemetery that you have chosen by either random or intent to visit. You are never disrespecting a grave by doing a little housekeeping.

Henry Herbert's grave may only have the 2 coffins in it which to me says its conspicuously empty for some reason possibly because there were or aren't any other relatives either living or that want to be interested there beautiful though in its own way did the couple not have children who wanted to be interested with their parents?I wonder
