I’m going to wire lights like you have. The difference is I want mine wired from the ignition switch so they go off with the ignition switch so they turn off when the switch is off. You did a great job showing how to get the dash off to drill square hole for the light switch. Thank you for the useful video! Wayne from Wisconsin
Watched several of your vids and enjoy the tips and info. From the locking pins to welding on grab hooks and a clevice! Adding lights is high on my to do list!!
I mouned mine onside the ROPS and am glad i did. Tree branches are more of a problem than thought. They occasionally get repositioned, but not wiped off. I would also have tapped into the keyed light switch leads. One bump of the switch or forgetting to turn em off = jumper time. Nice fitting of the switch.
Thanks very much. Yes, I was thinking of the keyed switch too. We'll see how this all goes. Good thing is I can change anything. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Ed
Mine need the key and the light switch on to operate. (hooked up at right rear factory lead). Same with the hazzards, key must be on. Key off = ALL lights off
Simply buy an automotive relay and place it under the cover, near the light switch. Control the relay with the key switch. That way it will interrupt the current to the lights when the key is turned off and allow it when it's on. In the meantime, don't forget to make us a video on your first battery recharge ;)
I replaced my BX25 with a B2301 in September 2021. I needed an LED warming light and front/rear LED flood lights on the ROPS. Thanks to you and Paul Shorts, I got some great ideas. On the B2301, I mounted the LED flood lights in the center of, and under the ROPS, because the previous side-mount flood lights reflected off my glasses. For the LED, amber warning light, I build an "L" shaped swivel mount (Like those on the dump bed of snow plows) on the right side of the ROPS. I had to use a 3/8" brass bushing to insure that it would swivel without resistance. This allowed visibility regardless of the angle of the ROPS. With the access to the channel of the new ROPS of the B2301, I was able to fish the wires down the right side, to the fender and was able to install three (3) toggles switches on the right side console, behind the 3-point lever. As a police officer, I have wired and repaired many emergency lighting systems; on the BX25, I wired 360 degree coverage with red and amber flashing LED lights, on the lower half of the ROPS bar, using inexpensive (Less than $10 each that have multiple pattern choices.) oval-shaped, surface mount LED modules, which only required a 1/4" hole for the wires, and threaded taps onto the bar. The warning lights are highly visible, with the red lights to the rear and amber to the sides and front.
Thank you. On 3/25/2022 I added red and amber side mount 3/4 inch round button LED marker lights because there was no side illumination and it was dangerous at night on or near a roadway. They are also visible in They are also visible to the front and rear. There are bullet connectors on the tail light wire harness, which made it easy with "Y" pigtails. The head lights have two (2) pair of wires (One pair for each head light for an unknown reason). I spliced into one positive and one negative wires under the right side of the hood. Being a fellow Clark Griswold myself (my wife says my tractor looks like a circus ride), I can appreciate this. I did much the same thing on my tractor, however I stumbled across the stock Kubota work light u-bolts online, in a parts catalog. They match ROPS nicely and look pretty stock.
I did the same thing with two lights but I mounted mine on the inside of the ROPS because I get into a lot of trees. I also wired directly to the tail lights which made wiring much easier. I only had to run straight down and not worry about a switch. They come on anytime I turn the headlights on. And the way I clamped the brackets on the bars I can rotate the lights towards the back for when I am using the backhoe into the night.
Did the same, added lights. I have 4 total. Small work light facing rearward, 2 led rearward and a bar forward. The forward bar is so bright it’s like a ufo.

Nice use of chapter titles here! As usual you break things down very well and put together an interesting and engaging presentation good sir thank you for the share and letting me tag along to learn something new! :))
Regarding your steering wheel, a spinner works so well! Just get one that has smooth bolts underneath so it doesn't dig into your leg because it seems to always be lined up with my leg when I'm getting off my tractor.
Very helpful video as always, Ed. My ROPS lights have been sitting in a box for about a year, and I really need to get around to installing them. The KBOH's ROPS clamps are a nice alternative to U bolts for those who haven't purchased mounting hardware yet.
I put a couple of lights on my rops system and they work great. The only drawback here is at night you get an accessible amount of bugs that get drawn to the lights. There were times I had to shut the lights off because of too many bugs swarming my head.
Got potential two feet of snow coming tomorrow did a search to see some options, happy to find your video Ed and i was shocked to hear that you were climbing up on the first 1000 of many! Nice job on the video as always!
Excellent video, Ed. That looks like a very nice light choice. I especially liked where you showed how much brighter the new lights are compared to the factory lights. Love the tongue-in-cheek humor! Cheers!
I would have surface mounted the switch, inline, on the ROPS because I'm -lazy- too busy. Yeah, that's the ticket. The first time you hit your head on those u-bolts you'll re-think that drill and tap.
Great job, Ed! And entertaining too! Lightly seasoned with humor, just like I like it. Adding LED lights was one of the first mods I did to my tractor. I put a light bar in the middle of the ROPS, two on the sides for side lighting and two on the rear, so I have 360 degree light, which I love. BTW, I taking pictures of wiring and such too before taking things apart, which has saved the day more than once.

I just added LED lights to my tractor as well. I used a bar for the front and two smaller lights for the rear with magnetic mounts. They worked great. Check it out if you like.
Oh darn you're making it hard for me to choose one guy put his lights underneath the bucket on the frame and use the factory switch I like that but then I've always pictured doing it your way I don't know what to do LOL maybe I'll do both. Okay so my only question for you is why didn't you use a relay I'm not even sure why one is needed but most people are installing relays when they hook up lights I'd like to hear your explanation of this thank you for your good work be blessed I'm a thumbs uper and a subscriber
Hi Wayne. The kit didn’t include a relay, so I assume one is not needed. LEDs are a pretty low draw of power so I think that’s another reason one is not needed. I’m actually getting ready to replace these lights within a kit from Artillian. Nothing wrong with these, but the Artillian lights rotate, so I’m curious how they will perform. Thanks for following along! -Ed
Ed, those rear tail lights and directional lights need protection. I ordered light guards from Paul and Kathy Short from Roberts Bay In Canada and I sure am happy with them. Very good quality
Just a thought but would the light be more adjustable with the flat part of the "U" bolt to the inside ? At least it wouldn't be 3/8" thick that way, may have to move the light back behind the nuts and cut the "U" bolt off. Another thing you could try is leave it like it is but angle the top "U' bolt upwards clearing the light like the bottom "U" bolt. I like the lights too, I went with the cheapo $14 dollar set but they work well. You can change the factory yellow headlight bulbs to white LED bulbs for $13 bucks on Amazon. I changed all the factory bulbs to LEDs and it makes a big difference.
I seem to be the outlier, as I wired mine into the taillight itself right next to the auxiliary wiring. I cut the taillight wires, and used deutsch connectors to plug everything back together. I wanted my extra ROPS mounted lights to come on with the factory light switch.
If you didn’t have such a ‘cluttered garage’ you could have used your smooth garage floor. By chance were you a shop teacher? Your teaching style reminds me of some of my best teachers.
@@MyClutteredGarage I was a high school science teacher as well as a college wood shop teacher. I learned you need to be able to laugh at you mistakes along with your students. These are often the best ‘teachable moments’. Keep up the great videos.
Great video…and I love the lights….Did you leave ubolt as one after tightened nuts??.I see myself riding in field n hit a bad spot smackin my head against leftover thread part of unbolt that sticks out past nut…or when I turn seat around to run backhoe
Good evening Ed 😉 Great video editing 👍 Great installation video and nicely done Sir 👌 Yes please do cut off the extra bolts dangerously close on each side of your head Sir 😉 Cheers !!!
I was reading all these comments to see if anyone had already suggested this. Envisioned looking backward and catching one of those bolts that never used to be there, or worse yet, rollover and striking a bolt!
Another great video! I used my new ROP lights but the bug started to come around so bad I stopped mowing. Yours are really bright so maybe the bugs will burn up before they get near you 🤔
Mitch Doing Stuff - thanks very much. Good point about attracting bugs. Maybe I’ll need to add a flame-thrower 😄 We’ll see what happens! Thanks for watching. -Ed
I'd flip the U-bolts around or hacksaw the extra thread off. Not something you want to crack your head on when looking out the back or if you roll it. If playing with the battery, disconnect the -ive 1st and hook it up last. I've welded a 10mm spanner to the hood while connecting up a 800A battery by making that mistake. It doesn't take much of a slip with a wrench on the +ive terminal to short it out and a small spanner gets very hot very quickly.
Love your sense of humor, "you stay there, I got this..." You may have a bit more room to angle the lights if you use the flat bracket over the light mount instead of the U bolt. I have ordered a B2601 and, due to COVID, could be December before it shows up, sigh... I too will be adding lights and have been trying to decide where to put the switches... which is futile without ACTUALLY having the tractor to look at (but it is fun to think about) and like where you decided to put yours! Will you post a link to the 1"x7/8" drill bit? ;) Keep up with the great videos
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. The lights seems to be at the right angle so I guess I lucked out! December?! Kubota is really testing your patience, but you’ll love it. Please check back in when you get it! And yeah those square drill bits are hard to come by! -Ed
I have a lot of downed trees and brush always on my land and I’m thinking about that always. I’m thinking about buying new tractor with a grapple or putting the hydraulics and a grapple on my 2003! Any thoughts from those in the know. I wouldn’t be doing any odor the work myself.
I got a kubota B2601 last week. Did have a kubota about the same HP in 1987. Was a very good tractor. I would like to get and additional 20 years. BUT a very BIG tree fall on it 8 weeks ago. / ? Is the reverse speed pedal much harder to press down then the forward pedal ? What kind of fuel hr. do you get ? My new one uses twice the fuel that the old one did. I only got 12 hr. on it.
Bummer about the tree! Yes the reverse pedal is harder - one of my few complaints. Interesting question about fuel consumption. I feel like it’s very fuel efficient and never thought about it. 12 hours sounds like a good days work only one tank of fuel. Thanks for watching!
hi ihave similar wire harnes but im a bit worry if the switcht doesnt drain battery because when si connected to the batery there is small light on a switch
Hi Ed, My B2601 arrived today 🥳 with a payment 😟... Oh, the things we get ourselves into... ANYWAY... I am installing lights and plan to install the switches on the dash like you and am curious about the steering wheel center cap, does it pop off easily? I'm notorious for breaking that kind of stuff and it is about 25°F which means the plastic is probably pretty brittle! Any tips would be appreciated! Update: got it off, now I have to find my rectangular drill bit... 😉
@@MyClutteredGarage Hi Ed, We got 14"-16' of snow then 1/4" or more of rain yesterday which made for some very wet, heavy, sticky snow and the B2601 with the BX2822 snowblower ate it up! A snow like that would have typically taken 9 or 10 hours of work with the walk-behind blower. I was able to complete my drive, my in-laws (who live a mile from me) driveway, and help 2 neighbors in 3 hours... why did I wait so long 🙈?!?!?! Turns out I didn't need the rectangular drill bit (good thing, I couldn't find it either) because my switches are round! Hopefully I can finish my led light install today!
I just subscribed, have you ever watched Paul Short's channel? He lives in Canada he builds and sells mods for Kubota tractors . He has a website called Specialty Repairs Custom Mods. Paul and his wife Kathy also own 2 Kubota tractors.
I'm wondering why Kubota hasn't designed the bar at the front with decent mesh (to protect that plastic grill and what's behind it), and thought about the lighting issue once a loader, bucket or what ever goes on the front? The Japanese aren't dumb, so I'm guessing there's a reason that I am just not seeing.
Careful not to knock your noggin on those u bolts when off roading. Try cutting the threads for acorn nuts or just bend up some 11gage steel in your vice to fabricate some sleek minimal bolt on clamps.
That's what I was thinking. I'll figure out a different and cleaner way to install my lights. Even drilling small holes in the ROPS won't hurt the integrity, and will clean up the entire install. I love the lights switch mounting location. Connecting them directly to the battery works for me. Sometimes the wiring can be too small when connecting to the ignition sources. Just pay attention when shutting down for the day.
Small mounting holes should not compromise the integrity of the roll bar. I know that forklifts have holes and things mounted on the roll cage. I’m a forklift operator.

I just added LED lights to my tractor as well. I used a bar for the front and two smaller lights for the rear with magnetic mounts. They worked great. Check it out if you like.
great job
Thanks much!
-Ed
A bit of rubber (from a bicycle tire - for instance) around your ROPS mounted U clamps makes them less prone to slip.
Good tip. Thanks!
Instead of the u-bolts you could use stainless steel worm gear hose clamps for a low profile clean attachment
Great idea. And probably better!
good job
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Ed, those rear tail lights and directional lights need protection. I ordered light guards from Paul and Kathy Short from Roberts Bay In Canada and I sure am happy with them. Very good quality
Thanks Wayne. I’ve heard about those. I’ll have to check them out.
Bright idea 👍
ba00173 - 😄
Great install video 👍🏻
Topaze 2000 - thank you, and thanks for watching!
Mount the lites on the inside of the roll bar
Great idea I have a new l2501 and just subscribe like your video
I take pliers and twist of the zip tie ends so they don't cut my skin when I'm working on the rig.
I said Bud Lite. LOL. Nice video.
Nicholas Lacovara - haha! Thanks for watching. -Ed
Cool.
Positive terminal gets tightened first my friend....in case you touch ground it can't arc on ya
I seem to be the outlier, as I wired mine into the taillight itself right next to the auxiliary wiring. I cut the taillight wires, and used deutsch connectors to plug everything back together. I wanted my extra ROPS mounted lights to come on with the factory light switch.
I actually changed the lights recently and did the same thing. th-cam.com/video/4lNo0lqL188/w-d-xo.html
If you didn’t have such a ‘cluttered garage’ you could have used your smooth garage floor. By chance were you a shop teacher? Your teaching style reminds me of some of my best teachers.
Haha! Thanks for your kind comments but I was not a teacher. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
@@MyClutteredGarage I was a high school science teacher as well as a college wood shop teacher. I learned you need to be able to laugh at you mistakes along with your students. These are often the best ‘teachable moments’. Keep up the great videos.
I see you have hit a few branches with the ROPS too
Hahaha! Yup me too.
Great video…and I love the lights….Did you leave ubolt as one after tightened nuts??.I see myself riding in field n hit a bad spot smackin my head against leftover thread part of unbolt that sticks out past nut…or when I turn seat around to run backhoe
Thanks much! I’d cut the extra thread off for sure!
Good evening Ed 😉 Great video editing 👍 Great installation video and nicely done Sir 👌 Yes please do cut off the extra bolts dangerously close on each side of your head Sir 😉 Cheers !!!
RCAFpolarexpress - absolutely planning to cut those bolts off, Dave. Good suggestion, and thanks for watching! -Ed
@@MyClutteredGarage I rear light is a good thing to have Cheers 😉👍
I was reading all these comments to see if anyone had already suggested this. Envisioned looking backward and catching one of those bolts that never used to be there, or worse yet, rollover and striking a bolt!
@@tommoore8123 Yes in deed, great input comment Sir Cheers 👍😇
Another great video! I used my new ROP lights but the bug started to come around so bad I stopped mowing. Yours are really bright so maybe the bugs will burn up before they get near you 🤔
Mitch Doing Stuff - thanks very much. Good point about attracting bugs. Maybe I’ll need to add a flame-thrower 😄 We’ll see what happens! Thanks for watching. -Ed
hook up + first then - on 12 volt, no sparks if you touch metal then.
Good point. Thanks Pat!
New subscriber , well done !!
Thanks very much, and welcome!
I like them lights what was the part number on them
Love your sense of humor, "you stay there, I got this..."
You may have a bit more room to angle the lights if you use the flat bracket over the light mount instead of the U bolt.
I have ordered a B2601 and, due to COVID, could be December before it shows up, sigh... I too will be adding lights and have been trying to decide where to put the switches... which is futile without ACTUALLY having the tractor to look at (but it is fun to think about) and like where you decided to put yours! Will you post a link to the 1"x7/8" drill bit? ;)
Keep up with the great videos
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. The lights seems to be at the right angle so I guess I lucked out! December?! Kubota is really testing your patience, but you’ll love it. Please check back in when you get it! And yeah those square drill bits are hard to come by! -Ed
Great video. Do you have a link to this kit and where you got it? I can't seem to find it.
Thanks very much. There is a link to TSC in the video description. Good luck with your project!
I have a lot of downed trees and brush always on my land and I’m thinking about that always. I’m thinking about buying new tractor with a grapple or putting the hydraulics and a grapple on my 2003! Any thoughts from those in the know. I wouldn’t be doing any odor the work myself.
Hi Al. If you’re happy with your 2003, no reason to not just add a grapple. So handy!
Can you have both on? Also replace fronts w led bulbs. Little help to for right right in front of you. Under attachment area to see.
Both ROPS & headlights? Yes. True it may help to replace headlights with LED. Thanks for watching.
Where did you buy that brand of light?
I picked them up locally at tractor supply. They should be a link in the description. Thank you.
can you put them on the inside so you don't catch them onCLOSE OPENINGS ,SUCH AS BRUSH?
Sure can!
Did you mod your lights since you did this?
Not yet! I actually haven’t done very much “night riding”.
hi ihave similar wire harnes but im a bit worry if the switcht doesnt drain battery because when si connected to the batery there is small light on a switch
There is no light on my switch. There should be a way to wire without that light, or so it only lights when switched on.
Hi Ed,
My B2601 arrived today 🥳 with a payment 😟...
Congrats! That’s exciting news! -Ed
@@domenicmaiani3795 - Just in time! :)
Do you think he knows we are not able to move the camera at his request?
Is that a water proof switch?
It’s not, but my tractor doesn’t sit in the weather. I think it would still be better to install a weather resistant switch.
Is this guy related to Mr Rogers?
Haha, you’re not the first person to mention that.
You can put as much back as you want with epoxy lol
I just subscribed, have you ever watched Paul Short's channel? He lives in Canada he builds and sells mods for Kubota tractors . He has a website called
Specialty Repairs Custom Mods. Paul and his wife Kathy also own 2 Kubota tractors.
Thanks much. Yes I’m subscribed to Paul and Kathy’s channel. Good stuff! -Ed
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽🙏🏻 Enjoyed!
MOUNT THE LIGHTS ON THE INSIDE
I don’t like hydraulic steering for that very reason. It drifts continuously.
why not using a self tapping screw
You should not drill into your ROPS. It can weaken them.
Small mounting holes should not compromise the integrity of the roll bar. I know that forklifts have holes and things mounted on the roll cage. I’m a forklift operator.
I agree. The temptation is great, but backlash from viewers would be greater ;)
