- Mid-range variant of new-generation dual-cab 4x4 ute range tested 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GLS is expected to be the volume-seller in the all-new ute range, so having covered the GSR flagship at the recent media launch it’s time for us to examine the next rung down the ladder.
It’s a solid ute that’s undoubtedly a sizeable improvement on its predecessor in most areas, particularly handling, towing and payload, but it’s also frustratingly short of excellence in a number of key areas.
While Mitsubishi fans are likely to be pleased with the latest Triton, the large price increases have eroded its traditional value advantage so buyers should shop around.

Not really a review. Got nothing out if other than you are a Ranger fanboi
You missed the main point mate. Getting this means you can actually spend time driving the car vs waiting for your car to be fixed constantly like in say the Ranger.
Now do a segment with some roadside assistance mechanics regarding the Ranger…
I’ve also road tested the new triton and the Ford. It’s getting more and more obvious you are paid by Ford
Pretty good review, but you could hilight that to get constant 4wd in a Ranger you need to outlay $73000. You could hilight were the Triton exceeds the Ranger:
- warranty
- reliabilty
- extra safety across the range
- cheaper
- better load capacity
- better fuel economy
- manoeuvrability and smaller turning circle
To me this all says that Triton now sets the benchmark.
If they did that they would lose their Ford Marketing budget.
The first point was highlighted "Need to get a V6 Ranger or Amarok for constant 4WD" As for the rest...
Warranty - absolutely
Reliability - possibly, though new engine and platform means it's untested
Extra safety - not true, Ranger has comprehensive safety across the range so same
Cheaper - yep, by a few thousand, that point was made
Better load capacity - payload very similar, Triton slight edge with a bigger tray, though Ranger is bigger between the arches by a decent amount
Fuel economy - this point was made in the written review and yes Triton does seem better by about 0.5L/100km in our testing
Smaller turning circle - only 0.3m in it, but you're right Triton is slightly tighter
Thanks for replying, so you are basically agreeing that the Triton is ahead of the Ranger in quite a few key areas, so this must kinda mean its at the benchmark pointy end. It's seems the only area where the Ranger is superior is ride comfort at low speed and more pitch control on undulations. My theory on this is that the Ranger is better due to 200kg of extra fat.
ps on safety everything except front camera is standard on the base GLX and the Ranger doesn't have driver fatigue monitoring...
@@keithholland7465 The all round camera is across the whole range including GLX.
@@keithholland7465 the ranger is also roomier and the adaptive cruise control is much better than the Triton. Both of them have poor stopping distance. and the turning circle isn't that big of a difference to matter
driver fatigue monitoring is garbage tech
So gotta get that ranger plug in for the Ford marketing team no matter what!
The video made it clear that it isn't as good as the Ranger/Amarok, okay. But I wonder how does it stack up against the rest. The numbers on paper seem good, and if its 2nd to the Ranger at a much lower cost, then the Triton is a solid ute to get I recon, even if you aren't a Triton fan.
Will be very close to call. Stay tuned for comparison tests to come. But you're right, it's a solid choice.
Another review bought to you by Ford Ranger, with no comparison to any other brand other than Ford 🤔
I had a 2019 Triton for 240,000 klms and I currently have a 2022 Ranger which I have done 130,000 klms.
While I like the slightly larger cabin space on the ranger, the 6 speed transmission is terrible compared with the Triton. Your review regarding the Triton on how it handles bumps and potholes on the road is just as bad in a ranger. The infotainment system in the ranger is way more glitchy than the Mitsubishi.
I will be interested seeing some long term reviews conducted from people who drive these vehicles daily.
Mitsubishi has always been underrated in my opinion.
How must does ford ranger pay you ?
The down hill decent control can be set between 1 & 20 kmph, this can be adjusted via the accelerator or the brake depending on if you want to go faster or slower.
Off road cruise control??
Great. How about you review the changan hunter pickup?
Because it’s not sold in Australia
Times like this when Japanese domestic markets were never interested in Triton dual cab ute (typically made in Thailand) with monotonous drum brakes and polluting diesel engines; Mitsubishi Triton V6 petrol 2 door coupe utility pick-up were ever last made in Japan 2006 due to beyond repairs, thirsty V6, drum brakes fail by collisions and worst insurance premiums.
The MV Triton is being sold in Japan
Any towing test reviews coming?
For sure, stay tuned!
If its built half as good as a ' 380 ' buy it.😅
That thing was awesome.
The media of the day didn't rate the 380 either, i often wonder if the have driven the same car i have when i read and watch their reviews.
Toyota XLT??? What’s that? 😮 why is everything based off a lemon 🍋 yes the ranger drives nice and has a large screen 📺 but it’s the lowest for reliability just like the new NF Amarok. Fit and finish is a Ute not a prestige car! You new age car reviewers have lost touch. That’s why I like the channel Redriven
reliability is actually decent. claims of poor reliability are over blown
Well, at least this review didnt include your sponsors name dropped every 30 seconds. You were doing really well, right up untill the last 30 seconds when you had to drop the Ranger name. So so obvious guys. Why not throw in a quick comparison with the other competition Hilux, dmax etc to hide it. By once again comparing to just the Ranger like Sams shambles review did, your bias has been highlighted. I tested the XLT VS GLS Triton, and the Triton wins hands down and was 8k cheaper.
Intrusive driver tech is always a deal breaker for me.
No new cars for you ever again then
Shop around? Ranger aint bigger or better mate. Triton now bigger than a Hilux. Tub in Ranger look tiny.
Triton bigger than a hilux? Your dreaming. The hilux rogue sits higher with more articulation flex and much wider body and guards and is heavier.
Gutless old 2.4L is a joke.
@@ev0wat lol..Rouge aint a standard Lux mate. And check the stats, Triton is bigger.
@@davidscott820plus the interior of the rogue looks like a 2002 Camry lol
@@ev0watthe Triton is the second largest pick-up in ASIA-OCEANIA Market..lots of car reviewers confirmed it already..Hilux Rouge just looks wider because of the additional aesthetic exterior options
Infotainment is Nissan, is bagged in their older vehicles.
Main dials and LCD between them is also Nissan, bagged for being archaic.
No it's not. It's in the outlander and is great
@@richardtimms6645 The new Outlander is also a Nissan X Trail. Outlander uses the 2.5 and CVT from Nissan. That's not a bad thing but it is a fact. The infotainment system came from the last gen X Trail. Watch one review to see.
I took a Triton, Dmax, and BT 50 for a test drive. On the same road, did not go off road. Before the test I had my Mindset on the BT 50. I even took 2 different models of the BT 50 on the same driving loop. The Dmax was a NO to me. The BT 50,
Was a lot smooth in the gearbox changing gears. But over the same bumps wanted a Bunny hop. And after driving them, My leg ate because of the foot position on the break and saturated petals. Before driving the triton , I was against it because of the Adblue. After the test drive, it ticked all the boxes. There was only 2 issues that concerned me. The engine rev a lot higher while driving and a gearbox changing gears Was snappy. I'm looking for a vehicle. That I can hop in and drive a 1000kms in the trip and still be able to walk the next day.
At 9:24 minutes, did he say “Toyota XLT Ranger”??
2.0-litre XLT Ranger
It is fantastic and the diesel engine is really a must for a truck!, No real exact idea of why diesels are absolute in N.Am.😢
They've just never been popular with a large majority of buyers. There's probably some point or event in the past this can be traced back to.
Ranger a few grand dearer…that’s a bit of a stretch, it’s around $8k against the 2.0 XLT or 15%
$63,390 for Ranger XLT 2.0, $59,090 for Triton GLS = $4300. Upper end of “a few” I’ll grant you, but a long way short of $8K
@@addictedtosliding its based on RRP like all other reviews, RRP of the ranger is not 63.390
@@Kevin_Barnacle_Jones I can assure you it is
Triton can be good as or better now to be fair to take number one spot 😊
This is a review? Phews, you miss a lot of features mate.
Such as?
My friend I wouldn’t let you review a new ice cream flavor.
They'll probably say this chocolate icecream doesn't taste as good as a Ford Ranger 😂
But I love ice cream😢
@@richardtimms6645 😂
Introducing the new mitsubishi ranger
Did he say a Toyota Xlt ranger?!?!
I thought the same
“2.0-litre XLT Ranger”
Can't work for carsales and be in the most popular brands pocket.
In Thailand they modified with the biggest turbo all the pickup truck for drag racing and track race mostly they use Isuzu but in standard engine Isuzu is not good enough power, Mitsubishi is the best interm of speed performance sterling design safety features gearbox and intelligent engineering, Ford ranger second choice, Nissan Isuzu third choice,
Why don't these reviewers mention that this shares the navara platform ? And, get off that ford train, you'll embarrass yourself long term.
You guys deleting comments now, what happened to free speech you go on about. Just another biased review. Why compare it to the Ranger and not any other utes? Lol, so so obvious.
Two turbos to replace after 150 miles. No thanx.
No thx
NO MANUAL ? THAT IS STUPID THATS ALL I OWN MITSUBISHI TRITON THE MANUAL DON'T MAKE ME TURN AWAY MITSUBISHI
yuck.

Feature artist this month. It'll change for next few vids, don't worry.
Shitty review. 4wd said the gearbox is literally one of the best.
What a load of crap this review
