You’re wrong about the arrows. That just means they have two supports for that letter. Ones without it can be locked by the story. It will usually say “It will take some time for that bound to build” or something like that.
Yeah, the arrows are mark for "plus" supports. I think their main purpose is to just allow characters to have four conversation arc instead of 2 or 3 conversation arcs
It's still possible, check the recruitment requirements. If you haven't reached the minimum, get their support level up to lower the requirements (if you're not even close get their support level up to B). So get your gifts ready and be smart about it (i.e. don't waste other gifts on Hilda if you have 20 anemones lying around, since she's the only one you can use them on). Also I'm pretty sure your gifts go to waste if you already have a support conversation ready, but haven't done it yet, but I'm not completely sure about that. Gl.
@@Wackaz she's really good, but ultimately gets a little bit outshined by other wyverns post timeskip. The fact that she has access to darting blow gives her a big edge early though. I just wish she'd stop missing 80+ hit chances for me lmao.
@@randombrit4504 Great Knight is just kind of underwhelming anyway. Fliers however are really strong, their only weakness being lack of battalion options. This game is primarily player phase focused, that's why the movement, utility and damage output of a Wyvern Lord has so much more value than the extra tankiness a Great Knight provides. But in the end you could make basically anything work in this game so do what makes you happy :D.
Whenever I spun my controller in the air (like to the right) my character would run super fast to the end so whenever the loading bar went super fast to the right (like when the game is about to be done loading) I’d do that to see if my character would make it to the end before the loading bar did
Here's a couple battalion based ones for me. 1. Something I wish I knew when I started was to train characters in Authority. I neglected it on characters who don't particularly excel there and it's really limited the amount of battalions my characters can use late game. 2. At the start there's a battalion with the ability "Stride" which gives you a gambit that increases up to 8 units movement by 5 for a turn, you can use this twice per battle. This is amazing at the start of the game as all of your characters have 4 movement to start with. This is still something very useful late game and is the first battalion I recommend buying.
It was one of the first battalions I bought and thinking about it would make for probably be part of speed runs for the game especially since we also have the dancer class back
I've found Gautier Knights very useful for Byleth not only for Stride but it gives a great avoidance rate although you do need a B in Authority and Sylvain's paralogue.
@@t0wnkrier don't the character have specific skills requirements which you must have in order to recruit them? Like Mercedes requires mag or bow and that is all that is written there so is it possible to bypass the bow and mag requirements altogether?
Cognito Tan Khaii Hui if you get the support to B on the character that you want, they may request to join your class. It’s a random day though. I got Dorothea and Ignatz through this method.
feels like default difficulty of divinity or any other big TRPG to me, if you're a vet of the genre it's easy, but if you're not, you can easily lose half your units in 1 battle from bad decisions.
I mean it did say Hard is for experienced players. I just went by the subtext more than the actual difficulty name. Maddening was for those craving a challenge.

I heard you can also recruit other students by attaining support level B rather than meeting stat requirements. Once support level B is reached theres a chance the student will request a house transfer by the end of the month. This could help maximize your faculty training to focus on skills you actually want to use. I have yet to test it myself, but I hear its worked for others.

Can confirm, did a last minute support grind with a few black Eagles I kinda liked and ended up getting a whole bunch, even those I didn't massively want asked to join. Which I can understand because who wants to be Black Eagles when you can Golden Deer.
I've recruited all possible students. And some stats are still in E. I recruited almost everyone via B Level support. About 3 of them were recruited through stat requirements.
Completely forgot about the advice box 40 hours in. Yeah, standing next to the main character usually let other characters access the convoy in every fire emblem game.
Related to merchants: Fishing gives you professor EXP (10-60EXP per catch), and the merchants sell 40 (10 one, two, three star and 5 four, five star) bait every month. “Fistfuls of fish” is a good time to grind because of how many fish you get per successful catch, leaving a surplus of cooking fish and meal sharing fish.
edward shehan True, you can sell a lot of fish back to offset the cost, but it only runs you 1050G a month, should you buy every bait in stock, but yes, some fish are quite valuable.

Something I wish I knew about was unlocking the dancer class. By the time the quest came around I was so focused on training and stuff I didn't know it existed.
In new game+ plus you can also use renown points to unlock any support ranks you had in your previous playthrough; very useful for recruiting other students into your house.
I used the renown to boost my professor level first and foremost, then skills I had unlocked. I decided to use different skills this play through. First one, I did sword and reason (and authority seemed to level up well, too) but this time I decided to be a cavalry class.
Tip for lunatic mode; if you want to make your lunatic run easier, play all 3 routes on hard and keep stacking your New Game+, max your statues then save all your renown for your lunatic playthrough. During each hard play through, change what you focus your avatar skills on. When entering New Game+ on your Lunatic playthrough, use all that renown to purchase your avatar skills back up, which if you did it properly and got enough skills high enough each playthrough, you will be able to recruit other students almost immediately. It's only important because your team WILL matter on lunatic, and having access to those important students (Felix, Dorothea, Lyisthea) early is a huge bonus.
Uh also u can make everyone learn heal by making faith at least D or C i think so everyone can be a healer also train up authority for higher ranking battalions for later

I agree. Personally I don't own the game yet but I'm planning on buying it so I looked up the classes on the wiki and got a bit spoiled with the Byleth specific class. Other than that I only watched about 5-7 hours of gameplay to find out if I indeed would like this kind of game. I also tend to watch videos like this, because I don't like messing up right at the beginning and only finding out later in the game. I felt pretty sad when I saw that Byleth had different colored hair right at the beginning of the video. It was obvious what would cause the change later in the story and I think that kind of ruins me watching that scene with my own eyes in the future. Just a tip for Gamer Guru for the future - please try using footage without anything after the first 5-10 hours of the game (for longer rpgs, etc). There are quite a few people who tend to look up things like me and that might disappoint the for one, they might not even finish the video because they wont know if there'll be any more spoilers. Most of these videos are spoiler free, some run random clips that have nothing to do with the themes. Or you could just put a simple "minors spoilers in the video" tag at the beginning. The tips are great otherwise and the video is quite fun :) Keep it up man!

I think the best time to be recruiting is after you complete the battle of eagle and lion cause they will have higher levels when recruiting so you don’t have to grind them.
Leaving this out here as something i really regret not knowing beforehand: you can use 'steal' from the rogue class to steal equipped shields from.enemies. those do not count as equipped weapons for the purpose of.shields. Thus, you can steal artefact shields from enemies you could not get any other way.
Dragon King equip the ability to the character. Then in battle, when you put your unit next to an enemy unit that has more than a single weapon you’re able select steal and then be able to take everything but the weapon
Also, the arrow doesn't denote story lock-out on support convo, it just means it has more than one scene before rank up. If each one blocked by story was marked over half the list would be marked since most of your house can't pass B with you until Ch.12, Leonie can't pass C with you until Ch.10, etc.
An extra tip, for those who want to beat up the death knight and some dark seals to boot, i recommend training Lysithea's reason to B. She'll learn Dark Spikes. This spell is incredibly powerful against cavalry units. Lysithea will be able to 1-hit K.O that dark knight i swear.
Little adds. 1: even if they are weak in it train EVERYONE in Battallions (except Felix. his crest conflicts with battalions) 2: use said battlions to break the shield of the monsters. THEN kill the monster (best way to get rare ore (Only real way out side of some "Ore quests") 3: I wouldn't sell the battalions (myself). I just kept all of the great ones 4: Do NOT Cash in your renown to re-buy your professor-ship right away. do the first quests that gets your professorship to like Level e+ then buy (you can buy some of it "later" or just go straight to A+ - I did A+, simply because i wanted to have max teacher training/tea time etc to bond with students in NG+ - and if i wanted to buy support to get someone back (ie: for me HIlda, so i could train her how i needed earlier, where as someone like Dorothea it's okay). 5: Try to fish 1-3 times, but save the majority of your hooks for events called "Fistfull of Fish" this is the best way to grind out your Prof Levels. 6: there are just some classes not worth the time to level out. (for example - class mastery of assassin is lethality. I had my Byleth learn this and in 275 battles, she triggered it 0 times. I kid you not. Petra (who also learned it), triggered it three times in 200 battles. Lethality is not like Awakening where it seemed to go ALL the time).
Some of this information is either flat-out wrong or simply inefficient. The arrows above the Support icons are not the ones that are story barred, that just means that there are two different Support conversations needed to get whatever Ranking it is. For example, the ones above Edelgard mean you need to get through two conversations to get C-Rank. The ones that are story related will show up blue when you have the required affection but be unavailable to get the conversation. If you click it, it will tell you that 'this bond will take time to deepen'. You don't need to focus the Professor Training toward anything other than the specific stats you want your character to use. For example, if you want to want to become an assassin, don't force training in lances to recruit Leonie. If you want Leonie, use gifts to boost affection. At B-Rank support with units, save for the ones that can't be recruited, they will offer to join your house. It might take a few weeks but they will show up. But out every gift from the East/West Merchants as well as all the fishing bait. When you're gardening, specifically use the Three-Star flower seeds because they also give you gifts. Save your bait for an event on the calendar called 'Fistfuls of Fish' in which you get 2-4 fish for each piece of bait you use. This can easily get you 1-2 Professor Ranks in one sitting. I was able to go from B to B+ and halfway to A in one week. Don't listen to the advice about not changing classes. When you get the chance to progress, at levels 10/20/30, do so immediately. You can always reclass yourself to an earlier one that you want to finish mastering at any time. There are two main reasons for this. First, you gain some stat increases by advancing to the higher tiers, which you retain even if you switch back to a lower class. The second is that you might not have the stats for a 100% chance of advancing. You can only advance at the start of your Free Time, so if you fail, you are locked into that fail until the next opportunity, even if you save scum. It is far better to have a class available at any time than to hold-off. For further recruiting strategies, you can ask a character from another house to give you aid. Do this for whichever character you are focused on recruiting. So long as you put them in the battle but don't use them to kill enemies, you can gain affection points without losing experience for your characters. If you have a C-Ranked Professor Level you gain access to Adjutants, which allows you to equip one unit on another. If you equip your hired help to Byleth, you can rack up the affection without removing a slot on the battlefield.
Well, if your weapon mastery stats are higher than the student you instruct, you'll get professor expertise when instructing them. So, it may not be useless at all to upgrade them. But yeah, getting B support is a faster way to recruit students
@@herusetiawan5399 I don't recall getting Professor Experience when teaching... I thought that having a higher level in certain mastery only meant that you give an extra boost to the student you are teaching.
@@lo4tr that's what I said. You get professor expertise in that area where your mastery is higher than your students. Professor experiences are earned at the end of the lecture week.
The arrows over the support letters are for when they have an extra support level at that rank. For example Byleth and Edelgard Can have a C,C+,B,A,S support level. When you get the C support the first arrow will fill and when you get the C+ support the second one will fill. When the blue dialogue box (the icon that shows you have a support waiting) turns to a light blue that is when the support is time locked.
Gifts are huge for motivation, too. Once you hit mid-game and late-game especially, when you are drowning in money, buying gifts and using flowers essentially allow you to use money instead of activity points ahead of instruction. That frees up your activity points for faculty training/advanced drills. Also, on the first day of the month, you should ALWAYS use the sauna (the very refreshed buff lasts all month for each character, giving +4 to all instruction - very useful for getting master classes earlier), and also use the head chef to create a stat boosting food for a monthlong buff. Also, you do keep your prof level and affection in NG+ - you can buy support levels with renown (very useful to insta-buy someone you want to recruit from your last play).
The bit about Faculty training your skills to help recruit is straight up bad advice. Every character you can recruit barring two (Lysithea and Felix) will offer to join once you hit B-rank. This is easily achieved by giving them the correct gifts or just showing their with swag. It's also a gross waste of time resources to train skills you will never use over powering up the ones you need on Byleth (usually sword+auth+faith for their unique job).
@@golfer435 Even if they won´t ask automatically for sure. it still lowers the requirements and if you ask them manually while exploring they still join, atleast most of them
Lysithea and Felix will in fact join with a B level support by the way. Just in case anyone's reading this now. I know because I've done it three times lol.
Don't forget Mercedes or Annette as the former is the best healer in the game, and the latter is the best utility based mage in the game. She gets access to 4 different Rally's, amazing Mag stat and naturally high authority. There is also Petra who has the highest Speed growth in the game easily capping at 50 by maxing out Swordmaster, Assassin and Wyvern Lord. Honestly just recruit whoever you like because you like them. All of the students are lovely and this game has the best cast of characters of any FE game solely because they are so fleshed out as actual people with personalities quirks and such.
A tip is that once you get an adjutant you can pair them with another character. That adjutant will level up and can master their class this way. More importantly you don't use weapon points or magic points this way. So if you want to power up a magic or weapon level equip it on your adjutant and they can infinitely power up that weapon skill everytime the person they're paired with attacks or counter attacks.
You can also hit the plus sign on your switch when your in battle to zoom in on the characters and you can control them differently than you would in the grid based system
True, get character you want to recruit as assistants to build relationship. Once you can get them as adjutants, you can have them with Byleth as that will also build their relationship, and won't steal XP. I suggest doing that to healers/mages you want to recruit, as to now let them steal XP from your units.
And the artefact shielda are really really.good, in.addition to there being a lot of unique shields that block class weaknesses which you can get more of only by stealing them.
@Kainos Teleos I've found that keeping a Silver Weapon, and Iron Weapon, and a Killer Weapon on each character is the best way to cover all my bases. I used to worry about things like Armorslayers, but having Mages available and combat arts for the characters that can directly counter anything I might come across made doing so pointless. I've also found that, since there is no Weapon Triangle, that focusing on more than one weapon type is pointless. Just use one weapon type and sink the rest of your training into Authority (save for Felix) and whatever skills you need for reclassing.
Tip in maddening mode: if you’re really looking to get through maddening mode, make sure you really know who you want on your team from the start. Since maddening makes it hard to get xp if you recruit early you can have everyone you need. Also don’t spend time on everyone in training in maddening as your top units need all the do possible
Near the end of the video, it's worth mentioning that if you break all the barriers of the beast related enemies, you get rare smiting material. Like Umbral Steels, Mythril, etc.
I literally only managed to recruit 2 on my first play through, Dorothea and Felix, both were by stat requirements :^). Other than that, I somehow got Sylvain to C rank partly cuz I took him along to fight his brother.
Go Fishing the fastest way to get professor rank is by doing a lot of fishing. Buy all the bait that you can each month, then wait for a fishing day. You can easily get 4000+ points in just 1 day without using an event point.
Also - new game + has a lot of benefits. you can use renown points to increase your professor level immediately and spend renown points on skills to recruit - 2nd play through I recruited every character and currently have 3 max characters and only have a few more classes for byleth.
So a little bit about the bylteth loading screen one, when using joycons, the right one controls which direction byleth runs, shaking the right joycon really fast makes byleth run at the speed of light back and forth, and finally, byleth can jump by pressing B
DO NOT let Ignatz die. No matter how much he annoys you and how weak he seems at the start. He is a MONSTER late game. His personal ability gives him +20 crit and sniper mastery gives him another +10. This with a killer bow and he tears through armies.
Super late but also, if you already a have character in an advance class you can have them apply for a different class and there is a chance they will get a stat boost, then you can just go back to the class you like the most while keeping the stat boost
You can get a lot of gold and experience points from the battle that doesn't have a sword next to it and if you break the all the shields of a monster you get materials for forging new weapons or repairing them
I played the game at first without, recruiting a single battalion, using a single combat art, doing a single certification exam, recuiting anyone, doing any paralogs, any faculty training, no gardening, and no support conversations, if only I knew
Something else to note is if youre trying to recruit students outside your house you need a C support level and 15 stats in the stats they require OR you just need a flat B support level, so if it's only 1 or 2 students you're trying to gain you can easily acquire them with gift spamming
... what I need to know is where can I look to see which classes CAN use magic. ... there are classes I want to make some of my students... and I want them to still be able to use their magic abilities... but i'm scared to invest because I dunno which will allow it. A lot of them don't really say.
If it's no a mage type class it can't use magic. It's really simple to tell. There are some classes that are not magic centered that explicitly state you can use magic like Dancer and the starter Noble/Commoner classes

For people that want hard numbers for getting other students. You can get any Student with a B rank support given a bit a time they will ask to join your class. (Fredie and Caspar's B rank are post time skip so you cant use this on them. Also Leonie's is time locked to just before the time skip.) If you don't want to wait and have B rank you need 10 in the stat they want plus a D in the skill they want. If you have a Support rank of C then you need a Stat of 15 and a Skill rank of C, if you don't have any support rank at all then you need a stat of 20 and a Skill rank of B.
What I wish I knew was to level up your houses characters to 23ish. If you dont there is a certain mission where you are forced to use them and if you happened to have them still at level 10 like me they are able to be 1 shot and you will have a real fun next 5-10 hours restarting the game over and over until rng has the enemy miss every attack. Oh I also wish I knew I needed to talk to edelgard on the second month no later then the 22 but only after I used all my stamina in the monastery. Was a real nice waste of time not knowing that because what person would do that normally? I would say most get the talking done, if at all, before the stamina is used. They really should just ask me "Edelgard wishes to speak to you, is now a good time" after I exit the monastery but no lets make it real annoying and piss people off by wasting there time.
Follow up tip: If you have the DLC don't buy battalions before a new game plus. Buy as many cheap seeds as you can. Then go to the altar in the abyss and sacrifice them for a bunch of renown.
Specific monsters only. Dragons give Umbral Steel, but Giant Birds and Golems give Mythril, Giant Wolves give Wootz Steel, and Giant Crawlers and Titanuses give Agarthium.
Support can expire is a big one that I found out... if you just leave your support and never read it, it can expire and the two characters will not be able to get closer.... EVER
My advice is really kinda what most people seem to be doing. On your average month, starting with exploration first can be tempting, but is often not the best choice. On the 2nd and sometimes 4th of every month is almost always an event that’s exclusive to exploring like boosted greenhouse experience or bigger fish. You can eat multiple means a day, just not with the same students and it boosts support between all units involved (If I eat with Lorenz and Ralph, they will grow closer to Byleth and the other student). In late game I used all my activitiy points to boost units who were difficult to gain support with. Often it only takes one or two (favorite) meals to reach C between all parties. If you want to recruit characters, get a read on them by experimenting with gifts and hosting tea parties. It shoots up their support and great/perfect tea parties increase charm for everyone involved. If you have around a D+ in the desired rank and a B lvl support with a student, they will probably ask to join you class during the week! It’s crazy! I has a D in bows and got Bernie to ask to join with this strat! Also, you can only attempt to recruit a specific student once a day- so save it till after the end of the day, when you have made sure that you have given them all their lost items or you’ve eaten with them. Any amount of support helps. If you really want to f up your experience, equip Byleth with a weapon/class you are struggling with raising for any purpose. There are items that specifically double the rank gained, so it’s pretty good at quickly ranking other weapons or simply conserving uses on the creator’s sword. If you do this, you almost never have to rest and can explore more, which means building more support, teachers rank, and overall just recruiting units faster. My Byleth has an A+ rank in bows and a B+ in Gauntlets before I had a B in swords. There are some situations post Chpt 11 where you can recruit students, but I’m not quite sure how that works quite yet. Just be sure to recruit you most desired units first, and end Chpt 11 with either a strong support with all wanted students or save scum until they join you. With these things I figured out I was able to recruit every student (Other than Ferdinand) on my first play through after feeling it out a bit. Just remember NG+ is a thing and it’s glorious. Yep! I managed to recruit every single student but Ferdie before Chpt 11! You just have to be careful. Prioritize recruiting students from whichever house that becomes your direct enemy in your path- I’ve seen some play throughs that managed to recruit students from the secondary antagonists house when met on the battlefield, but I am not entirely sure how it works. *SPIOLERS* In Golden deer, you HAVE to recruit students from black eagles first. Blue lion students seem to be recruitable if you had some support with them. I am not entirely sure how it works in the other three paths... but just try your best!
I don't know what happened but everyone ended up joining my class. I must have over 10 maybe even 15 recruits. The problem is I can't level any of them up because the game only lets you bring 10 students per battle. It sucks! My main character is like level 27 or so but I have main students on my team that I started with that are literally level 7! It's a disaster because they keep absolutely wretched in battles. I wish I could bring more than one of the linked (adjundant?) characters. Talk about things I wish I knew, Nobody told me it would be such a pain in the ass if I recruited everyone I wanted. My advice would be to only recruit like one or two of your favorites.
You can recruit any character you want and then just not use them in battles. I recruited many of them for the hell of it but didn't bother with them on the field. Also, if you increase you Professor Level higher, you can gain more adjutants at once. I think the maximum is three, which you reach at A-Rank.
Also another helpful tip. If u want relic weapons from a paralogue. Make sure you have the characters associated with the paralogue already recruited. I missed out on Ingrids relic lance because I didnt have her yet on my golden deer playthrough. But did have her before that paralogue and got it on my black eagle one.
Huh... I got Ingrid's quest without having her recruited... because I had Dorothea. I had to use Ingrid in the quest, but she was green and couldn't gain EXP, much like I had asked her for assistance.
@@lo4tr U can get the quest if u have at least one of the characters. But for Ingrids relic lance u have to have her recruited. For the goddess ring u need Dorothea.
@@Matton0114 Oh, cool. I remember having that quest back in my first playthrough but I don't remember what I got out of it. The more recent time I had both Ingrid and Dorothea, so I got both items. I wasn't aware that you'd only get them based on who you had on your team.
@@lo4tr for some reason I have found not many people are aware of this. I did have to find out the hard way but yeah. I recommend having all characters for the paralogue recruited before doing them. The only exception might be Flayns And seteths. I think u get their rewards just by doing it. Although I will say always try to do the bonus objectives. Like on Felix's paralogue u can get his Aegis Shield relic by doing the bonus of that mission which I think is making sure all green units survive. Or maybe u get the shield just by finishing it.
@@Matton0114 I would assume that most people aren't aware because they either never recruited Dorothea or Ingrid or they already had both when completing it. Of course, if you didn't know going in that you should receive multiple rewards, you wouldn't know you missed anything...
It might be pretty obvious (and this comment is late), but keep an eye on fishing events and always buy all the baits. Some event will have a lot more gold fishes, which is a good way to make money, but the best event is one where you catch many fish everytime, of the quality you caught (so you can catch 4 platinum fish in one go)...this also multiply the amount of professor points you gain from fishing, and I made around 2k points on the one time I caught such an event...you can get more if you can stand fishing for longer, but I stopped after maybe an hour.
I can confirm that you need Trust-Level B with the character you want and them will join very quick. I tried with Hilda, Bernadette and Lhysitea and it worked :) Got all of them the month before the last of "Act 1", by giving them the items and flowers them love. So no need to farm skills you do not use :)
You can still kinda recruit from other houses after ch 11, if you where close to getting them before ch 11 and run into them on the battlefield after ch 11 you can sometimes have them flip sides.
these are your recruited students but they are story bound so they dont appear in your army after the "thing". if you wouldnt have recruited them they would just die(I got ashe back but everyone else died that i didnt recruited before) you can still say ,,kill em" but dunno what happends and *really dont want to find out* (hope they give boots like somebody else in a game with 3 paths)
I wanna add a tip: when you get to the fishing tournament! Make sure you use l of the fishing tournament lure! Not only do you gain more fish but you gain more professor points and you don’t gain those lures back! That was my mistakes a couple days ago lmao
If you'll fish for large blue shadows, there's a chance for sellable fish, which gets you 10 profesor exp. Happy save scumming for 49 fishing baits, hahaha
What I really regretted was main-ing a few characters and not training my other ones which left me with only a few characters to play with. On my second play through I played evenly and made sure not to focus on 2 or 3 of my fav characters
free battles are the easiest way to farm exp and skill. I just turn off animation, skipped enemy turn, used stride on a char, and sent them in the trees with iron weapons. Battles usually over in 3 or 4 turns. Got everyone to lvl 50 pretty early. The only annoying part is going thru the monster battles. Also a shit ton of gold and resources
Durring the battles and you have like 10 people on the field with batalliins is it good to break up into groups of 3 or 4 or what? Just starting looking for best practice tips.

I would argue that gaining renown and maxing out the statues is the most important for new game plus as the statues will retain the levels plus you can use renown to unlock things like skills, stats and support /professor levels
You’ll find these blue/green sparkly areas around the monastery and it’s usually a gift of some sort (like an owl feather or something). Choose to explore and talk to whoever you want to give the gift to, and after the conversation has finished it’ll give you a little bar that says “gifts”. Press that and choose something to give. Hope this helped :)

You have to talk to her during chapter 11 with a c+ support (her crest must be revealed) and choose to go with her to her coronation in Enbarr. Then, when the Holy Tomb fight is over, you will get the option to protect her instead of kill her, thus giving you the option for to side with her against the church
@@Vordenker007 When you have C Support complete, as in, both arrow conversations are complete, then yes. During Exploration in Chapter 11, you talk with her and must either accept or decline her invitation. If you decline, you are free to continue that week but lose the opportunity to go her route. If you accept her invitation you lose out on the next week of training your students but are able to help her rather than kill her on Rhea's orders. To note, the split in the path happens after you beat the Holy Tomb mission, as in, defeat Edelgard and stop her from getting the Crest Stones.
You’re wrong about the arrows. That just means they have two supports for that letter. Ones without it can be locked by the story. It will usually say “It will take some time for that bound to build” or something like that.
Yeah, the arrows are mark for "plus" supports. I think their main purpose is to just allow characters to have four conversation arc instead of 2 or 3 conversation arcs
Also, if you are in new game + you can check if a support level is unlocked by going to the support levels tab in your journal. Helped me a bunch.

It's still possible, check the recruitment requirements. If you haven't reached the minimum, get their support level up to lower the requirements (if you're not even close get their support level up to B). So get your gifts ready and be smart about it (i.e. don't waste other gifts on Hilda if you have 20 anemones lying around, since she's the only one you can use them on). Also I'm pretty sure your gifts go to waste if you already have a support conversation ready, but haven't done it yet, but I'm not completely sure about that. Gl.

@@randombrit4504 Great Knight is just kind of underwhelming anyway. Fliers however are really strong, their only weakness being lack of battalion options. This game is primarily player phase focused, that's why the movement, utility and damage output of a Wyvern Lord has so much more value than the extra tankiness a Great Knight provides. But in the end you could make basically anything work in this game so do what makes you happy :D.

Whenever I spun my controller in the air (like to the right) my character would run super fast to the end so whenever the loading bar went super fast to the right (like when the game is about to be done loading) I’d do that to see if my character would make it to the end before the loading bar did

Here's a couple battalion based ones for me.
1. Something I wish I knew when I started was to train characters in Authority. I neglected it on characters who don't particularly excel there and it's really limited the amount of battalions my characters can use late game.
2. At the start there's a battalion with the ability "Stride" which gives you a gambit that increases up to 8 units movement by 5 for a turn, you can use this twice per battle. This is amazing at the start of the game as all of your characters have 4 movement to start with. This is still something very useful late game and is the first battalion I recommend buying.
It was one of the first battalions I bought and thinking about it would make for probably be part of speed runs for the game especially since we also have the dancer class back
I've found Gautier Knights very useful for Byleth not only for Stride but it gives a great avoidance rate although you do need a B in Authority and Sylvain's paralogue.

I heard you can also recruit other students by attaining support level B rather than meeting stat requirements. Once support level B is reached theres a chance the student will request a house transfer by the end of the month. This could help maximize your faculty training to focus on skills you actually want to use. I have yet to test it myself, but I hear its worked for others.

Related to merchants: Fishing gives you professor EXP (10-60EXP per catch), and the merchants sell 40 (10 one, two, three star and 5 four, five star) bait every month. “Fistfuls of fish” is a good time to grind because of how many fish you get per successful catch, leaving a surplus of cooking fish and meal sharing fish.
and you can also sell off excess fish to rebuild the gold spent on purchasing the bait.
edward shehan True, you can sell a lot of fish back to offset the cost, but it only runs you 1050G a month, should you buy every bait in stock, but yes, some fish are quite valuable.

Something I wish I knew about was unlocking the dancer class. By the time the quest came around I was so focused on training and stuff I didn't know it existed.
In new game+ plus you can also use renown points to unlock any support ranks you had in your previous playthrough; very useful for recruiting other students into your house.
I used the renown to boost my professor level first and foremost, then skills I had unlocked. I decided to use different skills this play through. First one, I did sword and reason (and authority seemed to level up well, too) but this time I decided to be a cavalry class.
Buying the A Rank supports causes the students to ask to join regardless of stats and skills.

Tip for lunatic mode; if you want to make your lunatic run easier, play all 3 routes on hard and keep stacking your New Game+, max your statues then save all your renown for your lunatic playthrough. During each hard play through, change what you focus your avatar skills on. When entering New Game+ on your Lunatic playthrough, use all that renown to purchase your avatar skills back up, which if you did it properly and got enough skills high enough each playthrough, you will be able to recruit other students almost immediately. It's only important because your team WILL matter on lunatic, and having access to those important students (Felix, Dorothea, Lyisthea) early is a huge bonus.

I agree. Personally I don't own the game yet but I'm planning on buying it so I looked up the classes on the wiki and got a bit spoiled with the Byleth specific class. Other than that I only watched about 5-7 hours of gameplay to find out if I indeed would like this kind of game. I also tend to watch videos like this, because I don't like messing up right at the beginning and only finding out later in the game.
I felt pretty sad when I saw that Byleth had different colored hair right at the beginning of the video. It was obvious what would cause the change later in the story and I think that kind of ruins me watching that scene with my own eyes in the future.
Just a tip for Gamer Guru for the future - please try using footage without anything after the first 5-10 hours of the game (for longer rpgs, etc). There are quite a few people who tend to look up things like me and that might disappoint the for one, they might not even finish the video because they wont know if there'll be any more spoilers. Most of these videos are spoiler free, some run random clips that have nothing to do with the themes. Or you could just put a simple "minors spoilers in the video" tag at the beginning.

I think the best time to be recruiting is after you complete the battle of eagle and lion cause they will have higher levels when recruiting so you don’t have to grind them.
Leaving this out here as something i really regret not knowing beforehand: you can use 'steal' from the rogue class to steal equipped shields from.enemies. those do not count as equipped weapons for the purpose of.shields. Thus, you can steal artefact shields from enemies you could not get any other way.
You can also use it to steal the death knight’s item early on

Dragon King equip the ability to the character. Then in battle, when you put your unit next to an enemy unit that has more than a single weapon you’re able select steal and then be able to take everything but the weapon

If each one blocked by story was marked over half the list would be marked since most of your house can't pass B with you until Ch.12, Leonie can't pass C with you until Ch.10, etc.
An extra tip, for those who want to beat up the death knight and some dark seals to boot, i recommend training Lysithea's reason to B. She'll learn Dark Spikes. This spell is incredibly powerful against cavalry units. Lysithea will be able to 1-hit K.O that dark knight i swear.
Little adds.
1: even if they are weak in it train EVERYONE in Battallions (except Felix. his crest conflicts with battalions)
2: use said battlions to break the shield of the monsters. THEN kill the monster (best way to get rare ore (Only real way out side of some "Ore quests")
3: I wouldn't sell the battalions (myself). I just kept all of the great ones
4: Do NOT Cash in your renown to re-buy your professor-ship right away. do the first quests that gets your professorship to like Level e+ then buy (you can buy some of it "later" or just go straight to A+ - I did A+, simply because i wanted to have max teacher training/tea time etc to bond with students in NG+ - and if i wanted to buy support to get someone back (ie: for me HIlda, so i could train her how i needed earlier, where as someone like Dorothea it's okay).
5: Try to fish 1-3 times, but save the majority of your hooks for events called "Fistfull of Fish" this is the best way to grind out your Prof Levels.
6: there are just some classes not worth the time to level out. (for example - class mastery of assassin is lethality. I had my Byleth learn this and in 275 battles, she triggered it 0 times. I kid you not. Petra (who also learned it), triggered it three times in 200 battles. Lethality is not like Awakening where it seemed to go ALL the time).

Some of this information is either flat-out wrong or simply inefficient.
The arrows above the Support icons are not the ones that are story barred, that just means that there are two different Support conversations needed to get whatever Ranking it is. For example, the ones above Edelgard mean you need to get through two conversations to get C-Rank. The ones that are story related will show up blue when you have the required affection but be unavailable to get the conversation. If you click it, it will tell you that 'this bond will take time to deepen'.
You don't need to focus the Professor Training toward anything other than the specific stats you want your character to use. For example, if you want to want to become an assassin, don't force training in lances to recruit Leonie. If you want Leonie, use gifts to boost affection. At B-Rank support with units, save for the ones that can't be recruited, they will offer to join your house. It might take a few weeks but they will show up.
But out every gift from the East/West Merchants as well as all the fishing bait. When you're gardening, specifically use the Three-Star flower seeds because they also give you gifts. Save your bait for an event on the calendar called 'Fistfuls of Fish' in which you get 2-4 fish for each piece of bait you use. This can easily get you 1-2 Professor Ranks in one sitting. I was able to go from B to B+ and halfway to A in one week.
Don't listen to the advice about not changing classes. When you get the chance to progress, at levels 10/20/30, do so immediately. You can always reclass yourself to an earlier one that you want to finish mastering at any time. There are two main reasons for this. First, you gain some stat increases by advancing to the higher tiers, which you retain even if you switch back to a lower class. The second is that you might not have the stats for a 100% chance of advancing. You can only advance at the start of your Free Time, so if you fail, you are locked into that fail until the next opportunity, even if you save scum. It is far better to have a class available at any time than to hold-off.
For further recruiting strategies, you can ask a character from another house to give you aid. Do this for whichever character you are focused on recruiting. So long as you put them in the battle but don't use them to kill enemies, you can gain affection points without losing experience for your characters. If you have a C-Ranked Professor Level you gain access to Adjutants, which allows you to equip one unit on another. If you equip your hired help to Byleth, you can rack up the affection without removing a slot on the battlefield.
This stuff is better advice than anything in the video.
Well, if your weapon mastery stats are higher than the student you instruct, you'll get professor expertise when instructing them. So, it may not be useless at all to upgrade them. But yeah, getting B support is a faster way to recruit students

The arrows over the support letters are for when they have an extra support level at that rank. For example Byleth and Edelgard Can have a C,C+,B,A,S support level. When you get the C support the first arrow will fill and when you get the C+ support the second one will fill. When the blue dialogue box (the icon that shows you have a support waiting) turns to a light blue that is when the support is time locked.
Gifts are huge for motivation, too. Once you hit mid-game and late-game especially, when you are drowning in money, buying gifts and using flowers essentially allow you to use money instead of activity points ahead of instruction. That frees up your activity points for faculty training/advanced drills. Also, on the first day of the month, you should ALWAYS use the sauna (the very refreshed buff lasts all month for each character, giving +4 to all instruction - very useful for getting master classes earlier), and also use the head chef to create a stat boosting food for a monthlong buff. Also, you do keep your prof level and affection in NG+ - you can buy support levels with renown (very useful to insta-buy someone you want to recruit from your last play).

The bit about Faculty training your skills to help recruit is straight up bad advice. Every character you can recruit barring two (Lysithea and Felix) will offer to join once you hit B-rank. This is easily achieved by giving them the correct gifts or just showing their with swag. It's also a gross waste of time resources to train skills you will never use over powering up the ones you need on Byleth (usually sword+auth+faith for their unique job).
Wrong, chara ters have a chance to ask to join your class, getting b support does not guarantee it

Its, like, a 20% chance they'll join after support B, so if you keep reloading saves, it's bound to happen eventually
Lysithea and Felix will in fact join with a B level support by the way. Just in case anyone's reading this now. I know because I've done it three times lol.
Don't forget Mercedes or Annette as the former is the best healer in the game, and the latter is the best utility based mage in the game. She gets access to 4 different Rally's, amazing Mag stat and naturally high authority.
There is also Petra who has the highest Speed growth in the game easily capping at 50 by maxing out Swordmaster, Assassin and Wyvern Lord.
Honestly just recruit whoever you like because you like them. All of the students are lovely and this game has the best cast of characters of any FE game solely because they are so fleshed out as actual people with personalities quirks and such.
A tip is that once you get an adjutant you can pair them with another character. That adjutant will level up and can master their class this way. More importantly you don't use weapon points or magic points this way. So if you want to power up a magic or weapon level equip it on your adjutant and they can infinitely power up that weapon skill everytime the person they're paired with attacks or counter attacks.
AND you can equip the knowledge gem or experiece gem on those adjuntants!
You can also hit the plus sign on your switch when your in battle to zoom in on the characters and you can control them differently than you would in the grid based system
Make use out of characters assisting in battle to get more affection from them
True, get character you want to recruit as assistants to build relationship. Once you can get them as adjutants, you can have them with Byleth as that will also build their relationship, and won't steal XP. I suggest doing that to healers/mages you want to recruit, as to now let them steal XP from your units.

And the artefact shielda are really really.good, in.addition to there being a lot of unique shields that block class weaknesses which you can get more of only by stealing them.
Iron weapons, even if you have access to better keep them because they are really more light, so you can do a double attack with them
@Kainos Teleos I've found that keeping a Silver Weapon, and Iron Weapon, and a Killer Weapon on each character is the best way to cover all my bases. I used to worry about things like Armorslayers, but having Mages available and combat arts for the characters that can directly counter anything I might come across made doing so pointless.
I've also found that, since there is no Weapon Triangle, that focusing on more than one weapon type is pointless. Just use one weapon type and sink the rest of your training into Authority (save for Felix) and whatever skills you need for reclassing.
Tip in maddening mode: if you’re really looking to get through maddening mode, make sure you really know who you want on your team from the start. Since maddening makes it hard to get xp if you recruit early you can have everyone you need. Also don’t spend time on everyone in training in maddening as your top units need all the do possible
If you have extra activity points use it on tournament battles. I always skipped them, but the gold stacks.
Near the end of the video, it's worth mentioning that if you break all the barriers of the beast related enemies, you get rare smiting material. Like Umbral Steels, Mythril, etc.

Go Fishing the fastest way to get professor rank is by doing a lot of fishing. Buy all the bait that you can each month, then wait for a fishing day. You can easily get 4000+ points in just 1 day without using an event point.

So a little bit about the bylteth loading screen one, when using joycons, the right one controls which direction byleth runs, shaking the right joycon really fast makes byleth run at the speed of light back and forth, and finally, byleth can jump by pressing B

DO NOT let Ignatz die. No matter how much he annoys you and how weak he seems at the start. He is a MONSTER late game. His personal ability gives him +20 crit and sniper mastery gives him another +10. This with a killer bow and he tears through armies.

Super late but also, if you already a have character in an advance class you can have them apply for a different class and there is a chance they will get a stat boost, then you can just go back to the class you like the most while keeping the stat boost
You can get a lot of gold and experience points from the battle that doesn't have a sword next to it and if you break the all the shields of a monster you get materials for forging new weapons or repairing them
do you get a chance for a material per each shield? say a monster has 4 squares of shields, do you have to break each one?

Something else to note is if youre trying to recruit students outside your house you need a C support level and 15 stats in the stats they require OR you just need a flat B support level, so if it's only 1 or 2 students you're trying to gain you can easily acquire them with gift spamming

Yes it does. It’s just the starter class that use magic without description but everything else is specified it’s pretty simple
If it's no a mage type class it can't use magic. It's really simple to tell. There are some classes that are not magic centered that explicitly state you can use magic like Dancer and the starter Noble/Commoner classes

For people that want hard numbers for getting other students. You can get any Student with a B rank support given a bit a time they will ask to join your class. (Fredie and Caspar's B rank are post time skip so you cant use this on them. Also Leonie's is time locked to just before the time skip.) If you don't want to wait and have B rank you need 10 in the stat they want plus a D in the skill they want. If you have a Support rank of C then you need a Stat of 15 and a Skill rank of C, if you don't have any support rank at all then you need a stat of 20 and a Skill rank of B.

What I wish I knew was to level up your houses characters to 23ish. If you dont there is a certain mission where you are forced to use them and if you happened to have them still at level 10 like me they are able to be 1 shot and you will have a real fun next 5-10 hours restarting the game over and over until rng has the enemy miss every attack. Oh I also wish I knew I needed to talk to edelgard on the second month no later then the 22 but only after I used all my stamina in the monastery. Was a real nice waste of time not knowing that because what person would do that normally? I would say most get the talking done, if at all, before the stamina is used. They really should just ask me "Edelgard wishes to speak to you, is now a good time" after I exit the monastery but no lets make it real annoying and piss people off by wasting there time.
Follow up tip: If you have the DLC don't buy battalions before a new game plus. Buy as many cheap seeds as you can. Then go to the altar in the abyss and sacrifice them for a bunch of renown.
Drstroying all of a demonic beast's barriers gives you umbral steel, so do that before you kill it every time.
Specific monsters only. Dragons give Umbral Steel, but Giant Birds and Golems give Mythril, Giant Wolves give Wootz Steel, and Giant Crawlers and Titanuses give Agarthium.
Support can expire is a big one that I found out... if you just leave your support and never read it, it can expire and the two characters will not be able to get closer.... EVER
My advice is really kinda what most people seem to be doing. On your average month, starting with exploration first can be tempting, but is often not the best choice. On the 2nd and sometimes 4th of every month is almost always an event that’s exclusive to exploring like boosted greenhouse experience or bigger fish.
You can eat multiple means a day, just not with the same students and it boosts support between all units involved (If I eat with Lorenz and Ralph, they will grow closer to Byleth and the other student). In late game I used all my activitiy points to boost units who were difficult to gain support with. Often it only takes one or two (favorite) meals to reach C between all parties.
If you want to recruit characters, get a read on them by experimenting with gifts and hosting tea parties. It shoots up their support and great/perfect tea parties increase charm for everyone involved. If you have around a D+ in the desired rank and a B lvl support with a student, they will probably ask to join you class during the week! It’s crazy! I has a D in bows and got Bernie to ask to join with this strat! Also, you can only attempt to recruit a specific student once a day- so save it till after the end of the day, when you have made sure that you have given them all their lost items or you’ve eaten with them. Any amount of support helps.
If you really want to f up your experience, equip Byleth with a weapon/class you are struggling with raising for any purpose. There are items that specifically double the rank gained, so it’s pretty good at quickly ranking other weapons or simply conserving uses on the creator’s sword. If you do this, you almost never have to rest and can explore more, which means building more support, teachers rank, and overall just recruiting units faster. My Byleth has an A+ rank in bows and a B+ in Gauntlets before I had a B in swords.
There are some situations post Chpt 11 where you can recruit students, but I’m not quite sure how that works quite yet. Just be sure to recruit you most desired units first, and end Chpt 11 with either a strong support with all wanted students or save scum until they join you.
With these things I figured out I was able to recruit every student (Other than Ferdinand) on my first play through after feeling it out a bit. Just remember NG+ is a thing and it’s glorious. Good luck everyone!
Yep! I managed to recruit every single student but Ferdie before Chpt 11! You just have to be careful. Prioritize recruiting students from whichever house that becomes your direct enemy in your path- I’ve seen some play throughs that managed to recruit students from the secondary antagonists house when met on the battlefield, but I am not entirely sure how it works.

In Golden deer, you HAVE to recruit students from black eagles first. Blue lion students seem to be recruitable if you had some support with them.
I am not entirely sure how it works in the other three paths... but just try your best!

I don't know what happened but everyone ended up joining my class. I must have over 10 maybe even 15 recruits. The problem is I can't level any of them up because the game only lets you bring 10 students per battle. It sucks! My main character is like level 27 or so but I have main students on my team that I started with that are literally level 7! It's a disaster because they keep absolutely wretched in battles. I wish I could bring more than one of the linked (adjundant?) characters. Talk about things I wish I knew, Nobody told me it would be such a pain in the ass if I recruited everyone I wanted. My advice would be to only recruit like one or two of your favorites.
You can recruit any character you want and then just not use them in battles. I recruited many of them for the hell of it but didn't bother with them on the field. Also, if you increase you Professor Level higher, you can gain more adjutants at once. I think the maximum is three, which you reach at A-Rank.

Also another helpful tip. If u want relic weapons from a paralogue. Make sure you have the characters associated with the paralogue already recruited. I missed out on Ingrids relic lance because I didnt have her yet on my golden deer playthrough. But did have her before that paralogue and got it on my black eagle one.
Huh... I got Ingrid's quest without having her recruited... because I had Dorothea. I had to use Ingrid in the quest, but she was green and couldn't gain EXP, much like I had asked her for assistance.

U can get the quest if u have at least one of the characters. But for Ingrids relic lance u have to have her recruited. For the goddess ring u need Dorothea.
@@Matton0114 Oh, cool. I remember having that quest back in my first playthrough but I don't remember what I got out of it. The more recent time I had both Ingrid and Dorothea, so I got both items. I wasn't aware that you'd only get them based on who you had on your team.
@@lo4tr for some reason I have found not many people are aware of this. I did have to find out the hard way but yeah. I recommend having all characters for the paralogue recruited before doing them. The only exception might be Flayns And seteths. I think u get their rewards just by doing it. Although I will say always try to do the bonus objectives. Like on Felix's paralogue u can get his Aegis Shield relic by doing the bonus of that mission which I think is making sure all green units survive. Or maybe u get the shield just by finishing it.
@@Matton0114 I would assume that most people aren't aware because they either never recruited Dorothea or Ingrid or they already had both when completing it.
Of course, if you didn't know going in that you should receive multiple rewards, you wouldn't know you missed anything...
It might be pretty obvious (and this comment is late), but keep an eye on fishing events and always buy all the baits. Some event will have a lot more gold fishes, which is a good way to make money, but the best event is one where you catch many fish everytime, of the quality you caught (so you can catch 4 platinum fish in one go)...this also multiply the amount of professor points you gain from fishing, and I made around 2k points on the one time I caught such an event...you can get more if you can stand fishing for longer, but I stopped after maybe an hour.

I can confirm that you need Trust-Level B with the character you want and them will join very quick. I tried with Hilda, Bernadette and Lhysitea and it worked :) Got all of them the month before the last of "Act 1", by giving them the items and flowers them love. So no need to farm skills you do not use :)
Hilda can't be recruited before act II and only for the Church side of the story

You can still kinda recruit from other houses after ch 11, if you where close to getting them before ch 11 and run into them on the battlefield after ch 11 you can sometimes have them flip sides.
these are your recruited students but they are story bound so they dont appear in your army after the "thing".
if you wouldnt have recruited them they would just die(I got ashe back but everyone else died that i didnt recruited before) you can still say ,,kill em" but dunno what happends and *really dont want to find out* (hope they give boots like somebody else in a game with 3 paths)

I am on my 5th NG+ and I did not know you had to equip the abilities... 250+ hours and I thought they were all just passive gains.
I wanna add a tip: when you get to the fishing tournament! Make sure you use l of the fishing tournament lure! Not only do you gain more fish but you gain more professor points and you don’t gain those lures back! That was my mistakes a couple days ago lmao
I didn't get any professor experience when using the tournament bait.
You can't really sell the caught fish either
If you'll fish for large blue shadows, there's a chance for sellable fish, which gets you 10 profesor exp. Happy save scumming for 49 fishing baits, hahaha

Only recruited both professors my first play through... after part 1, I realized it was no longer possible.
What I really regretted was main-ing a few characters and not training my other ones which left me with only a few characters to play with. On my second play through I played evenly and made sure not to focus on 2 or 3 of my fav characters
free battles are the easiest way to farm exp and skill. I just turn off animation, skipped enemy turn, used stride on a char, and sent them in the trees with iron weapons. Battles usually over in 3 or 4 turns. Got everyone to lvl 50 pretty early. The only annoying part is going thru the monster battles. Also a shit ton of gold and resources
Durring the battles and you have like 10 people on the field with batalliins is it good to break up into groups of 3 or 4 or what?

I'm super late cause I've played this several times over- I had a bad habit of wasting money on buying flowers for people for their birthday when I had no plans on recruiting them lol just wanted to bring that up so people don't make the same mistake
I would argue that gaining renown and maxing out the statues is the most important for new game plus as the statues will retain the levels plus you can use renown to unlock things like skills, stats and support /professor levels
Guys I know this sounds stupid but HOW do I give gifts? I can’t find out how in either videos or TH-cam ;-;
You’ll find these blue/green sparkly areas around the monastery and it’s usually a gift of some sort (like an owl feather or something). Choose to explore and talk to whoever you want to give the gift to, and after the conversation has finished it’ll give you a little bar that says “gifts”. Press that and choose something to give. Hope this helped :)
You don't get to keep your Swordmaster Mastery class skill though, Just throwing that out there, Its SM exclusive.

You have to talk to her during chapter 11 with a c+ support (her crest must be revealed) and choose to go with her to her coronation in Enbarr. Then, when the Holy Tomb fight is over, you will get the option to protect her instead of kill her, thus giving you the option for to side with her against the church

@@Vordenker007 When you have C Support complete, as in, both arrow conversations are complete, then yes. During Exploration in Chapter 11, you talk with her and must either accept or decline her invitation. If you decline, you are free to continue that week but lose the opportunity to go her route. If you accept her invitation you lose out on the next week of training your students but are able to help her rather than kill her on Rhea's orders.
To note, the split in the path happens after you beat the Holy Tomb mission, as in, defeat Edelgard and stop her from getting the Crest Stones.
