IT IS JUNE 2023 & RAPS HAWAII IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE. LAUGHED WHEN I WAS TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING & AM STILL LAUGHING AT THIS MAN'S GENIUS. RIP+ DEAR RAP.
My sisters and I used to watch this over and over and over again! I recently just watched this and literally laughed/cried the whole time! My husband thought I was crazy.
Introduced my kids to Rap and they can't get enough of him just as my parents did for me back in the 80s. Our favorites are aunty Marialani and the Filipino bells. Now I got a 4 and 6 year old walking around the house going "maka-dang-dang, salang-sang, dog dog dog dog . . . ! Classic!
When I was a kid, one of my best friends was Hawaiian and her dad had one of Rap's albums. I'll always love him for turning me on to Rap's comedy, and for breaking down da pidgin to me since I'm Mexican and had no idea what lau lau or a kanaka is. Learning a little pidgin came in real handy when I moved to Oahu in my 20s! I'd never seen the Auntie Marialani bit before - LOVE IT!!
We watched this show for 30 more years , when my kids were young. now they are at their 40th. this show still make us laugh and love. what a good show for family to enjoy toghter.
This skit cracks me up every time I see it. I wish that I could have seen him live. I've seen Frank Delima and Andy Bumatai live but Rap had a special sense of silliness.
Now remember you have to cook the chicken at 850 degrees for 1 minute............or 5 degrees for 4 days. I'm gonna laugh my ass off on my death bed thinking about that quote.
Still just as funny as when I was a little kid :) I wonder what non-Hawaii people think of this? I would think her pigeon accent and mannerisms alone would be hilarious to people outside of Hawaii.
I lived in Hawaii for 1.5 years, but not from there. I was crying laughing at this. Soooooooo hilarious. Watched it with my daughter who is not from there. She was looking at me like I was crazy with tears coming out of my eyes from laughter. I don't think she got it. (That's one feedback of non-Hawaiians.) :)
But more so when you have seen interactions that remind you of this and even more so if you actually know people like this...that is, one middle age local lady with a heart of gold...most of the time upbeat and full of aloha...loves to talk story with all her friends and family, cook chicken or whaveh need doing..and drink and smoke heavily!
Living in the mainland, I get pidgin sick a lot. I have to watch this video sometimes 5 times a day to keep my pidgin from going holoholo. “Da ting about da chicken is you can tell if da chicken is tendah, cuz if da buggah no can stand, woaaaaaah, tendah ah” 😂😂😂😂😂
When tasting the wine first time , when shes smacking her lips, you can literally tell by the look on her face something wrong. "Try wait. Aunty lost the taste. One more time ."
That was my favorite part too, but there were so many good lines from this skit! 850 degrees for 1 minute..or 5 Degrees for 4 days! Subtle..yet annoying... Crack me up all da time! She sounds like my Auntie!
Christopher Reilly, that’s absolutely perfect! Unfortunately, since this is local Hawaiian humor, most mainland people watching this wouldn’t get it, especially a modern audience. If Rap were still alive today, he’d probably have found a way to make that possible. RIP Rap.
Still as funny as when we make 'em. RIP Rap, Tom Moffat, Don (da hamajang mangler), everyone at Raps place. those who have the LP know it was "gently massage its breasts", but for TV, even in 1980s, could not (na keiki @primetime)
I had a penpal who loved Rap and Pidgeon English, and she was from the East Coast (born and raised there). Just depends on a person's ability to 'get it'... (I guess the same goes for British humor as well. Some people get it, and some people don't). As for me, I really miss Rap and all the other comedians who have since gone on. :(
These were the days still fun and happy and peaceful. Simple life still yet.......My Uncle came home with Poi Dog and wow he did all the skits Rap's did. He sounded and could mimic Rap's to da max. Not when Rap's did women though lol Rap's was da best HE WAS SOOOOO FUNNY!!!! He and Andy Bumatai da most funniest guys around
"ch kin ch kin, p an p an, w ine, w one" - so funny i roll laugh every time. "check the chickenen now go." "boujo k get da red kine yah." AH HA HA! "flamboyantly nondescript, a lighthearted wine with a marose attitude. Suttle yet unknowing" Wha! HA HA!
I think the inspiration for this came from the "I Love Lucy" show when Lucy was filming a TV ad for cough medicine...but in my opinion, this is even funnier!

"You have to cook the chicken at 850 degrees for one minute...or five degrees for four days."
I can never pick ONE favorite line, but this might be it!
Tooo tooo funny!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Love ❤❤❤ Rap!!!
My sisters and I used to watch this over and over and over again! I recently just watched this and literally laughed/cried the whole time! My husband thought I was crazy.

"Cook the chicken at 850 degrees for one minute or five degrees for four days"

I didn’t realize how special his genius was when I was a kid. Took him for granted. They just don’t make um like that anymore
Introduced my kids to Rap and they can't get enough of him just as my parents did for me back in the 80s. Our favorites are aunty Marialani and the Filipino bells. Now I got a 4 and 6 year old walking around the house going "maka-dang-dang, salang-sang, dog dog dog dog . . . ! Classic!

This is one of my absolute favorite comedy skits.
We watched this show for 30 more years , when my kids were young. now they are at their 40th. this show still make us laugh and love. what a good show for family to enjoy toghter.

There will never be another Rap. One of a kind.

"Here bebe take a hit, going be hot you know."
Rap--where ever you stay now, I bet you still making everybody laugh.
"Where do we start? At de beginning!" Brilliant.
This skit cracks me up every time I see it. I wish that I could have seen him live. I've seen Frank Delima and Andy Bumatai live but Rap had a special sense of silliness.
Every decision I’ve ever made in my entire life of 19 years has led me to this video and I am not disappointed.
"Go write 'em down, go write 'em, go -"
Bra
Now remember you have to cook the chicken at 850 degrees for 1 minute............or 5 degrees for 4 days.
I'm gonna laugh my ass off on my death bed thinking about that quote.

ohreally62 pretty sure it was "subtle, but annoying"
I think she says "Subtle, yet annoying
Tink so it's "subtle yet annoying"
My mom introduced me to Rap a few days ago and I haven’t laughed this hard in so long 😂
Still just as funny as when I was a little kid :)
I wonder what non-Hawaii people think of this? I would think her pigeon accent and mannerisms alone would be hilarious to people outside of Hawaii.

5:40 "You can tell the chicken is ready to be cooked, OH NO COOK ME, I GOIN RUN AWAY FROM YOU!"
"here you go baby have a hit its gonna be hot in there" xD im dying
Living in the mainland, I get pidgin sick a lot. I have to watch this video sometimes 5 times a day to keep my pidgin from going holoholo.
“Da ting about da chicken is you can tell if da chicken is tendah, cuz if da buggah no can stand, woaaaaaah, tendah ah” 😂😂😂😂😂

And this is why I've been saying "ingrediments" for the past 30 years since I first heard it.

Who thinks this should be sent to Food network, care of Bobby flay with a side not of Lighten the fk up?
Christopher Reilly, that’s absolutely perfect!
Unfortunately, since this is local Hawaiian humor, most mainland people watching this wouldn’t get it, especially a modern audience. If Rap were still alive today, he’d probably have found a way to make that possible. RIP Rap.

Da funniest part is Aunty couldnt say her own name at the end of the cooking show. Lol😂
