God, I owe this man SO much. Rap Replinger was before my time, but I had access to the VHS. I had a pretty tumultuous childhood, and his comedy got me through a lot. It makes me sad that he could make so many people so happy, but pass away so tragically. Mahalo for uploading, and mahalo to Rap Replinger.
"RAP'S HAWAII" was a 1981 KGMB-TV special that was produced by Lee Enterprises, who brought the CBS affiliate (KGMB) from Heftel Broadcasting in 1977, and unwisely sold the TV station to EMMIS in 2001( who also brought KHON, a former NBC affiliate that became a FOX station in 1996) KGMB was again sold to Raycom Media in the mid/late 2000s and is currently owned by Grey Broadcasting. their former TV station general manager is now The Mayor of Honolulu, which is Mr. Rick Blangiardi. selling and dismantling the original KGMB-TV Station was highly stupid, but-this is the bottom line-money and real estate! The old KGMB building also originated HPC, which opened in 1981. Rap Replenger was THE finest Honolulu comedian and talent, along with Andy Bumatai and Frank De Lima. one of the people who worked on "RAP'S HAWAII" was a man named Sid Nicholas, who I met back in the late 1970s- a very nice man, who also worked for Bill Melendez Productions, the animation company responsible for the "CHARLIE BROWN" animated TV specials that CBS used to air from the 60s to the 90s. Wonderful KGMB!!
Man i had this recorded on VHS from the tv and remember watching it as a kid. Too bad nobody put up the video of Booga Booga when they did that tv special also. Mahalos braddah. Rap was the best.
@@HiryuBlue not sure what was called but my parents had that one on VHS also. Had them playing the tic tac tako game, the tar and feather skit. Another like johnny b goode skit and one with the real estate where the haoles got all the land.

Firstly, THANK YOU for posting this! Raps, Mahalo Nui for sharing your comedic genius back then so I can always come back to you to transport me back to my hanabutta days growing up in Hawaii. Knowing a little about how much it takes to come up with a funny skit and take it to production and execution...WOW, you are genius! Just know, your work lives on in all of us who grew up in that “salad” of people you articulated in the best way anybody from Hawaii could have done! Mahalo and Rest In Peace.

It was built by my friend’s parents. A magical place before it was taken by the water department ( l think), then eventually ended up withUH art department. It was allowed to go to ruin. But once upon a time it was a beautiful place .
Wow, something about that opening scene made me think Agee house. And I've been researching with the MANOA - Story of a Valley book and looking online. Glad I found this thread, cause the pics "match" what I remembered from my teenage years stomping around the valley. I too was surprised when it burned..It was a true Manoa classic hideaway. It will always be preserved in Raps Hawaii video. Mahalo Rap and KGMB for making that a lasting memory for generations to come.
thank you for this! as a kid i waited and was so excited when this came on tv. very fond memories watching this with my dad who has since passed away. this makes me remember laughing and incorporating the lines on our everyday conversations. thank you for not only the upload, but bringing back those memories. we also had the lp and then then the cassette tape and of course the vhs.
