After all the 422-2222 commercials. I got an opportunity to see one of his performances. Then I found out more about Frank. He done a type comedy. Rare to see in others... Salute to you Frank DeLima. Been a pleasure to meet you and some of your Ohana...
Funny we think of Glenn Miyashiro as the most generic person imaginable. But in 50,000 years this particular blip in time in this very special place will reveal itself to be supremely unique and profound.
OMG this is still so funny years later, because us locals KNOW it is so true! I went to Highlands Intermediate and lived in PC, but luckily my first name is not Karen. LOL
Funny. It's a real product of its time. I had two uncle Masas, one on each side of the family. Mom had a volkswagen and grandparents would bring back beef jerky from Las Vegas.
Then again, I have unknown relatives in Pearl City, though all of us are descendants of farmers from Fukushima. So instead of "omoshiroi" I would say "omose" for the word "hilarious" in Tohoku-ben.
Are most surnames that have the suffix "shiro" Okinawan? There are a lot in Hawaii, like the owner of a farm I worked at, Yamashiro farms. Also are Okinawans considered a subset of Japanese people or separate? Their native languages are the same, correct. We all consider them Japanese here, but the distinction of being Okinawan is often brought up.
I once had an Okinawan friend who told me that Ryukyuans were Samurais who didn't want to commit seppuku so they started their own colony on an island. He was joking of course. Okinawans (Ryukyuans) will make it clear to you that they are not Japanese. Most of the time, a surname ending with, "shiro" usually designates an Okinawan as well as surnames like, "Higa and Arakaki." There are more, but I can't think of them all.
@@bigislander72 Kinda late with this response, but Okinawans had their own language, Uchinaguchi. Most Okinawans will tell you they are Okinawan and not Japanese. Typically if the surname starts or ends with 'shiro' it is an Okinawan name. But it can also be replaced with 'gi' or 'gusuku' and be Okiinawan, too. So Miyagi or Miyagusuku and Miyashiro are all the same, as is Gima and Shiroma. Kind of complicated, but that's what I learned from my mother.
It’s not easy being a Glenn Miyashiro.
I can assure you, you are not a very boring person.

I live down the street from Kaimuki High School, and every time I pass it, this song gets stuck in my head. “I went to Kaimuki High School”
This is the world's easiest song to get stuck in your head. Don't say you weren't warned.

Every. Single. Time.
