Hotel del Coronado's Historic Restoration of the Main Lobby & Front Porch

This year we look forward to celebrating an incredible milestone - reopening the hotel’s historic lobby and Front Porch after being meticulously restored to its 1888 Victorian grandeur. Historic photographs are being used to recreate as many details as possible including light fixtures and window latches. Original pieces discovered during the project have been documented, saved and repurposed.
Historic architect David Marshall gives us an inside look at the progress and a glimpse of what's to come. The lobby, reconstructed Front Porch, and new grand entry drive will reopen by summer 2021.

I'm thankful to see this because the last time I was in the hotel a few years ago, I couldn't believe the poor taste in "upgrades." I'm so happy that they're brining it closer to the original and I do hope they restore the ballroom from that awful merry-go ground with acoustic tiles back to the original wooden hall it once was. It's a far grander space than anyone alive today has witnessed under all that sheet rock, carpet and foam.
