My tip for helping eyes be the same, if you’re right handed, draw the left eye first so you can visually reference it (without your hand covering it) when you draw the right eye. It helps! Reverse if you are left handed.
Sally Van Nuys, artist Good tip! I wondered why the left eye was always bigger than the other even though I had measured etc. I will try that. I am right handed.
Mandy G I had the same frustrating problem. One day my son nonchalantly said, just draw the left one first so you can see it when you do the right. It really helped me...hope it works for you.

As always fantabulistic. Do you realise how fantastic you are? I’ve actually not done a face yet. Yes, mad I know !, But, because I’ve watched hundreds of vids, I know when I finally start, which is tomorrow "..................guys I’m. Not at all scared. I know it’s a weird way of doing things, but that’s just my way of doing things. I watch and watch and watch, and read and read and read and then it feels really familiar and then I’m ready. And I know I won’t be freaked out about the many mistakes that I know I’ll make. It’s how I was at school and I found it worked for me. But you are the BEST and now with you I’m ready. Wish me luck. What do u do with the transfer paper. How do i use it?
Transfer paper is super cool! You’d have to grab the reference and then print it out. Then put the transfer paper - dark side DOWN between your photocopy and drawing paper, then trace the outline with a ballpoint pen, and voila! The image will now be transferred onto your drawing paper. But honestly, draw along!! It’s so much fun!!

Hi Karen, can you go over again about the numbers and letters on pencils please? Do the higher numbers mean lighter, and which do you use when?
Sure! B is for black. 10B is the Blackest. H is for hard. 10H is the lightest (so the higher the number is, the more extreme is it in either direction) and HB is right in the middle (think school pencil).

If we were to look and scrutinize our own faces or the face of others (without being too creepy about it lol) both sides of our bodies are always different
Yes!! It doesn't bother me personally if my eyes don't match but I know it drives a lot of people crazy so I was just offering up a method to help!

In addition to my own practice, every weekend, my 8 year old grandson and I watch your videos and practice along with you. I love your beautiful girls. Do you think you could do some older faces?
I love to do stylized faces, so faces that arent super realistic. I could do older faces (or younger) but as soon as you start talking wrinkles and creases you're really talking realism and I, personally, prefer to keep things light and whimsical with my faces...and not at all too serious. Takes the pressure off and turns up the fun! Of you would like to practice realistic portraits I'd recommend drawing from photos. That way you can try to capture the subtleties of what makes an older face. For me? I like to draw without a photo reference and just for fun. I hope that's okay!
@@KarenCampbellArtist Thanks, I understand. When I am trying more realistic I do use reference photos. I just thought maybe you might have additional insight-especially on the shading. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
@@reginaread8786 no prob! Shading is the same no matter what age the person is the reference. Simply try to draw what you see. I know I know, easier said then done 😊 But the truth is that whether you're drawing an elephant's face or a human one, you will still want to be paying close attention to light sources, bumps and depressions, slight changes in curves etc. Does that make sense?
