- Today is my 44th birthday!!! Hollaaaaaaa!!! And in today's mixed media art tutorial for beginners I'm going to show you exactly How to Shade a Face with TOMBOW Dual Brush Pens & Water!
If you're self-isolating today, come hang out #withme!!!! I will teach you how to draw and shade a face with marker and water! I'm using a grayscale set of markers for this Tombow dual brush pen tutorial because I love the effects I can get when I add water with a paintbrush. If you don't have these- just use whatever watersoluble markers you have at home already. Or- grab a pencil or some colored pencils and skip the part with water. Press play and let's draw!!

I've been going through a rabbit hole of your videos these past few days and I found this video using tombows and faces. Can I just say wow! When I saw the picture I thought to myself there's no way I can possibly draw this especially using my limited tombows and crayola super tips of grey to do this. But it somehow came together with a few hiccups (I'm a novice at face shading 😞) However with your guidance and the rewind and pause button I was able to create a decent face. My sis said she looked like Sally in from The Nightmare Before Christmas in human form sort of even though she was far from my mind when I drew it. 🤣 So I'm going to call her Sally and leave the imperfections in it so I don't overworked it like I tend to do. Happy 44th Birthday! Thank you for the awesome video!! I know your birthday will be better than mine as you’re surrounded by family and a good neighbor that’s considered family. I just lost my Dad in January (mom 30 years prior), father in law passed a 10 days before my dad. and our daughter is grown so at least I got a phone call from her. I’ve never felt so alone before now. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, I think your new book can’t come soon enough for those of us who are really struggling and it’s an outstanding project, one that I hope to be a part of it somehow.

Hi Karen - I have just bought the skin tone colours of tombows and I'm following your video - but my tombows won't activate with water - I'm using watercolour paper...what am I doing wrong?
That is a very good question!! I'm not sure, are they really not moving at all? I'd try using a lot more water for starters. Are you working on hot press or cold press?

There is a local food chain where I have a membership card, and they mail me a birthday card every year for a free dessert. Don't know how I'm going to do it this year though.

Thank you so much Karen! I have a ton of Tombow markers... I have tried to use them the way you use Pitt pens or gelatos but they are so soluble that they move to easily! Sometimes I hit them with a light spray of fixative and that helps but I’m going to try them this way! Maybe they will become my second favourite tool (cause stabilo will always be #1 I think!) have a great day! 🤗

What that pen called thats water soluble i thort it was called "The Elegant writer" but all the elegant writers come up on amazon dont seem to be watter soluble so im little confused can you please tell me the right name if that pen please hun...hope your well & staying safe & had a lovely birthday despite this isolation thing 🌻😁🌍💞

I hope someone can help me find one of Karen's videos. She was drawing in a small journal. On one of the pages she drew triangles and squares. She drew hats on some of them. They were so cute. She drew on two other pages, but I don't remember what she drew on those. I would love to watch it again, but I can't find it.
