I just did this to my '06 Trailblazer. Had the engine light for Idle Air Control low, not to mention low idle speed affecting the A/C temperature at idle. After cleaning up the throttle body, the truck is running perfect and the engine light went out on its on rather quickly. Thanks for the spot on video guide!
Thanks this fixed my problem ,RPMs would drop when AC was turned on and eventually kill the motor and AC turn off and on like AC was bad. Cleaned throttle body per this video and all is FIXED..!!! Do this before you take to shop and get taken for a ride . Thnaks for the video !!
Thank you so much!. I have a 2006 and with your advice, I finished in an hour. Trailblazer runs great. Check engine light is off after leaving it running for about 10 minutes. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video/instruction by the way. I dont know if it was just coincidence, but after an alternator failure and installing the new alternator, the very next day the 03 trailblazer started idling rough, revving up, slowing to almost stalling(stalled a few times actually). only codes I was able to get were BARO/MAP, VAF, and a reference to throttle body intake tube loose.
I have a 07 TB L 6 motor that stalls on cold start up I'm gonna clean the throttle body and I don't have to pull any fuses or disconnect the battery right? As long as I don't lift up the throttle plate? Thumbs up subbed
It works, plus changing one coil for a misfire. See on you tube how to switch the coil from the misfire to another to make sure it is the coil. Replace all spark plugs and it purrs like kitten now. Wouldn't mind finding and SS now. In love with these trailblazer. lol. Thanks for sharing God bless
I have a 2006 trailblazer and have these issues as well. There was a recall about the senor in gas tank and they would do repairs but because i had gone over mileage allowance they fixed mine but i had to pay a reduced price. Mine went bad right after i bought it. But i still have idle sensor that is supposed to be bad and mine has cut off is the air is runnung.Bought new in 2006.
What do you cal the black plastic cover you take off? Anyway, when I took it off I noticed a puddle of oil/brown liquid settled in the black cover. Not a lot but enough to notice. Why would there be oil in there and where could it come from?
Thank You. The plug had me confused in a garage with shadows! BTW mine had 133,000 on it and was much much more dirty than the one you showed. Pulled the 2 fuses when done and waited 1/2hour. Replaced fuses and idled for 15 mins then took a short drive. Idle ended up looking like about 740 on the gauge but the Trailblazer is running fine. Oh and to finish off replaced the gas pressure sensor right next to just because it's old. Now I have new O2s (front and rear bank), new air filter, cleaned throttle body, cleaned airflow temp sensor. Anything else in that pollution path I should be replacing "just because"?
Any time your removing electrical plugs/components on a vehicle you should always disconnect the negative battery terminal an the line your referring to as a fuel line is not a fuel line it's a vacuum line I'm sure those that have any kind of mechanical sense know this but seeing as this is You Tube an most are watching this to learn I just figured I'd point that out. Other then that I found this to be great video showing how to clean your throttle body on envoy's/trailblazer's with the 4.2 inline 6. An really is the same on any drive by wire vehicle
Sorry I said it wrong. , and you can un hook battery if u want but with key off those have no power. Plz make a video showing how you do it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
6:26 How did you get the fuel line off without fuel spraying all over the place. I went to change the Fuel Pressure Regulator off my 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT on the 3800 Series II engine and that thing popped up out of my hand and sprayed fuel all over me. Changing it fixed the first start stalls I was having but damn that was a lot of pressure there.
i did not remove fuel line with liquid fuel in it . but if you do for something like a pressure regulator , then you can pull the fuel pump relay and start car and let it run till it quits this will remove the pressure with no mess
My GMC envoy had same engine code and rough idle while in drive and park even worse idle with A/C on. I took everything off used proper cleaner and put it back together. I will tell you it worked like a charm idles perfect A/C on or off. Thank you for the video it defiantly helped. And yes with just a little of carbon build up it can make a difference in the engine. Took me less than an hour and i really appreciate the video.
Thanks for the video. My 03 4.2 just started showing P0510 code which is "closed throttle positioning switch" I think I have to remove the throttle body and clean it thoroughly and see if it does the trick
If dirty , cleaning may help , but with that code , you may have a throttle position sensor or closed throttle position switch needing a new throttle body assembly . Sometimes wiring by the throttle body has issues . Maybe a clean and a throttle body relearn would be worth the try .
I have 2005 Trailblazer LT with the 4.2L and was told that the throttle body couldn't be cleaned and should just be replaced due to the type of housing used on the part. Something about it would "melt" it?
If you use the proper cleaner and do not scratch it all up it should be fine . I think i mentioned in the video about some having a coating, but maybe not . The one in the video is still driving daily .
I was looking at your two gauges oil pressure and battery is it normal that they move higher than 40 on oil pressure and up to 16 on battery when you speed?? I don't know if that's a issue but I'm concerned about it I have a 2002 bravada that is doing the same
Just wondering , couldn't it be that when the car is on idle the throttle still has a tiny gap to get air and that gap gets clogged with the carbon. Before i cleaned it i had to step on the gas a little which would open the plate when i stopped so the engine wouldn't die.
Changed battery and same thing happened. I'm going to do this tomorrow. Did you disconnect the battery prior to this? Some say yes and some say no. I would think you would so it would relearn idle with a clean throttle body
My TB was so encrusted with carbon, cleaner did not remove anything. I had to gently scrape it, spray it and scrape some more. I also disconnected the battery when removing the TB and the computer relearned idle after running rough for about 30 seconds.
I saw a similar video on this and what the other guy did was after he re-installed the throttle back into place, he went over to the fuse box and disconnected two of those fuses and waited 15 minutes then put them on, is that necessary or just do it your way?
I used a scan tool to remove codes. If the car is fixed by the cleaning the light will go off in a few miles anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting
After cleaning throttle body my trail blazer 2007 LT's RPM is not coming on idle and A/C stuck on defrost.... any suggestion or idea to fix this. RPM gauge is displaying between .5 to .6. and engine has little vibration as well and not as smooth as before. Shall I connect the computer and check the code. Thanks in advance for the helping comments.
if it was smooth before are u sure everything is hooked back up. sometimes if you open drive by wire throttle plates it can cause it to need to relearn idle. Not sure on the defrost that should be a separate system. sometimes if idle relearn does not do it its self you may need a scanner to put it in relearn.
I found your video because I'm having issues with the battery meter recently dropping/bouncing pretty low. I've seen that cleaning the TB could potentially fix that, and I see from between the 00:14 and 13:40, it's increased. Was that a result of the TB cleaning? I've not noticed any idling issues, or rather any change in idling.
Sometimes it will mess with the calibration , and a relearn could be needed . some can relearn on their own but some may need a computer to do relearn . could idle at a very very high rpm .even 3000 is possible .Plugged in key on, gas pedal to floor , most will open
Hello I switched over to a new throttle body because my code said it was bad. I sinked it in and it started I drove around for a couple blocks pulled in the drive way turned the car off went to turn it back on and it would not start it would crank over but no fire. Any suggestions on what else it could be.
Maybe check wire connections . Hard to say , with out looking at it or plugging in a scanner to see if it is communicating with the vehicle . I would check for fuel pressure and spark .Wonders if it has a crank and cam signal . Never know it may or may not be related to the throttle body . When you figure out the issue , please let us know as it may help another .
Is it necessary to pull the PCM fuses once your all done to do a reset? for about 30 mins, Fuse #10 PCMB and Fuse #28 PCM1, I have been told this though dont understand it ! I have an 04 Trailblazer !
It is not necessary . On a vehicle if the issue is fixed it will read correctly to the computer and after so many correct readings the light will go out on its own. I use a scanner to clear codes ,but not right away .I run the vehicle and watch the data to confirm the fix. The only reason I turn the check engine light out is so the customer does not see the light and get alarmed. So if you have a check engine light on and fixed the issue , you could just drive the car and when the light does go out it is like confirming the fix, but if light is turned off and it is not really fixed the light will come back on ,so it really does not matter
wtbm123 Thanks Appreciate it, My check engine light is not on, I have had a few local guys tell me it might help my gas milage by cleaning the throttle body, The engine seems to iidle real nice still at 75K miles about 800 RPM or so.
I read that disconnecting the negative terminal and waiting to reset the PCM can cause problems when the battery is hooked back up. Some say the HVAC system actuators can break. Is there any truth to this?
misterdinkly Every time power is cut , and re energized , it will go through a relearn . It opens and closes the HVAC doors . If the relearn does not complete then HVAC will not work properly . Most of the times you can disonnect the power again and wait a min or so . then re power . turn key on and do not touch HVAC controls till relearn is complete . I believe in most cases if one actuator does not relearn then there was starting to be a issue with that actuator , or door anyhow , and would of acted up in the future anyhow .
wtbm123 very good. Thanks. Would disconnecting for half hour be any different than disconnecting for just a minute? It relearns no matter the time off the battery?
Alright I got a Blazer 06 after I got my rotors done it now sounds as if I'm shaking a tool box like it might break in pieces and when I change gears too. I Asked the Mechanic why does it do that he said : " Is normal happends over time" :| Not satisfied with the answer. Just curious if anyone has an idea what could it be ??
I have a 2004 trail Blazer and the other day the vehicle lost power as in barely moving. I thought it was transmission slipping but I put it on a code find and it through 4 codes no.1 is p0172 fuel system rich(bank 1)#2 is p0455 EVAP system large leak (0.080") detected.#3 is loss of cooling fan speed signal and #4 is p0455 again. I've replace 02senser bank 1 and replaced fuel filter.and it still feels as if the transmission is slipping. the rpm goes way up until I let off the gas a little and the it tries to get going. but I can't slow down or hit a hill it falls on its face. Any suggestions
Some codes could be related , but could have more than one issue . i WOULD WANT TO SEE THE LIVE DATA . So i could see what the MAF is doing ,what the fuel trims are at idle and at 2500 rpm . check fuel pressure . What are the readings of the 02 sensors , before the converter and after , to see if cat is plugged . The only real way of knowing is to hook to a scanner and see what everything is doing , or replace parts till you get lucky . A good scanner one could also look in to the transmission to see if it is slipping and causing the issue . A code is a clue in the direction of what to test . Like if you got a 02 sensor code , you would need to read data of the sensor , as it may be fine , but reporting rich or lean because of another issue . the p0455 could even be the gas cap and not related to how it runs . And if it shows bank one , does it show a bank 2 . If i have a code on only one bank , and the car has a bank one and a bank two then i look to see if the other bank readings are normal or close to the same as the bank setting the code, but just not bad enough yet to set a code . If your bank two readings are normal , then maf , fuel pump and things like that would do the same to both banks . not all cars will have a bank one and two , some only use one bank .
Thank you very much for this useful video, i have trail blazer 2007 LT and i have done the same what u done, its work perfect Actually I found some oil inside the Throttle Body also inside resonator cover, any hint please
+richard malone It needs a relearn procedure done , some will do on its own , but may take some time , or someone with a scan tool can do . A lot of times this happens if butterfly was opened by hand .
I will have to disagree with Ed below. There is a need to clean the throttle body as you can clearly see the carbon buildup in this video. The car was throwing a code for throttle body cleaning and it was running rough. This guy should have disconnected the negative terminal on the battery or you can pull fuse #10 and #28 and wait about 10 minutes. This resets the PCM computer so it will learn the now clean throttle body..air/fuel mixture
What are some of the symptoms that would require this to be done? I have a 2007 Envoy that has recently started idling poorly, almost like the engine "jumps" or sputters. After about 10 minutes on the highway its not nearly as bad, and sometimes the check engine light flashes.
I would see what codes , with the flashing light it sounds like a misfire . maybe a coil or oil in spark plug well . a flashing light is saying do not drive as it is causing damage to converter
Oil residue ,lot from pvc system and egr system , some even say from what pulses back from the intake valve. they run crankcase pressure back in the engine instead of venting it out to the air.
Any vehicle no matter how good of quality gasoline you use will eventually build up with carbon now that don't mean your car will throw a code causing a check engine light but they all do it an with 100 thousand plus miles will start to effect gas milage some it's really just good preventive maintenance to clean your throttle body. I like to every 4th oil change pull the intake snorkel an clean what you can reach an only when it gives any trouble codes do I go as far as pulling the throttle body to clean like this
thanks for the video i have a used 02 TB about to hit 250k miles only had to replace leaking AC but will need to do this in future the dealership will overcharge u lol
i cleaned reset code start up truck and no rpm at all when pushing gas if i leave it run and plug the scan tool in then reset the code then i have rpm till i shut key off im lost on this

Great vid this is going help out alot of people for sure Terry! CJ
Thanks CJ.
do you have to take it off?can you just spray it??
My trailblazer had very low fuel ⛽️ it stalled on me once i got fuel in it it sputtering a little I’m thinking to clean the TB
Very informative, thank you much buddy. 😎
Thanks for watching and commenting
I have a code 2176 2004 Envoy change the throttle body unit , nothing when turn key on gages flicker all dash lights come on then go out no start.
Does the gasket have a tendency to rip? Do u recommend buying one first to have on hand?
every once in a while u see a bad one , but most can be reused
+wtbm123 Ok. Thank u for the info and the video.
Great how to ! Very informational
Thank you
Thanks. Quite an informative video my friend
Thank you
I found oil in the resonator when I removed it. What would cause that? Thanks.
Maybe blow by . if a lot of oil i would look into it , but also sometimes with the carbon build up it looks like a coating of oil .
It relearns no matter the time off the battery?
thanks great video question; can this apply in a 2006 model ?
should be basically the same
Alright I got a Blazer 06 after I got my rotors done it now sounds as if I'm shaking a tool box like it might break in pieces and when I change gears too. I Asked the Mechanic why does it do that he said : " Is normal happends over time" :| Not satisfied with the answer. Just curious if anyone has an idea what could it be ??
Try a different garage
Thanks for the video!!! Very well done.
Thank you
I have a 2004 trail Blazer and the other day the vehicle lost power as in barely moving.
Worked like a champ!!!
Thanks for the Video worked great on my 2002.

Nissan Titan throttle body sensor
How to replace a Nissan Titan throttle sensor
Great video. Is that a crack on your display screen?
a tear in the screen cover
Thank you very much for this useful video, i have trail blazer 2007 LT and i have done the same what u done, its work perfect
Actually I found some oil inside the Throttle Body also inside resonator cover, any hint please
may be PCV Valve if equipped with one .
wtbm123 true , i will clean the area and repace the PVC Valve, thanks
Talat Deeb Hi , i think there is no PVC Valve on TrailBlazer 4WD L6-4.2L ,
i wonder how the oil came inside the resonator ? Any idea pls
Good Job Terry :)
Thank you
good fix dr. terry
Thank You
very nice instructions learned alot thanks
Thanks
Great little vid, thanks.
can I do this on a 04 model without having to worry about messing the RPM reading?
If drive by wire , do not move throttle plate . most can be cleaned with out issue .
I missed this video. COOL
thanks
cleaned throttle body and pulled #10 fuses put all back in and on 05 trail blazer now idles at 2500-3000, what can I do to fix?
+richard malone It needs a relearn procedure done , some will do on its own , but may take some time , or someone with a scan tool can do . A lot of times this happens if butterfly was opened by hand .
+wtbm123 how long does this usually take it to relearn?
Good vid Terry
Thank You
great vid terry
Thanks Jay
very good info in this thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching and commenting
Thank you. Great vid..
Will this problem..cause. poor gas milage. In your vehicle? >
Some , but may want to clean MAF sensor and check air filter also
I will have to disagree with Ed below. This resets the PCM computer so it will learn the now clean throttle body..air/fuel mixture
uploadthis2011 can I pull the fuses before I start unplugging wires? and should I disconnect the negative before I start just to be safe?
misterdinkly You can
wtbm123 Awesome..thanks for the info and video!
Yes it was a bad coil. Easy fix. Thanks.
wtbm123
Where does the carbon build-up in the throttle body come from???
Oil residue ,lot from pvc system and egr system , some even say from what pulses back from the intake valve. they run crankcase pressure back in the engine instead of venting it out to the air.
Lower quality gasoline. Try a better gas station like chevron, shell, Phillips 66.etc
Any vehicle no matter how good of quality gasoline you use will eventually build up with carbon now that don't mean your car will throw a code causing a check engine light but they all do it an with 100 thousand plus miles will start to effect gas milage some it's really just good preventive maintenance to clean your throttle body. I like to every 4th oil change pull the intake snorkel an clean what you can reach an only when it gives any trouble codes do I go as far as pulling the throttle body to clean like this
Im gonna do this in the morning. my Tb is shaking and the idle flex's and sometimes it gets so low it kills the car.
+jehova lopez Hope it helps , not sure what u mean by TB shaking , may also check for a misfire as those coils do go bad from time to time
+wtbm123 trailblazer is TB, lol sorry. coils are fine. replaced all 6 and plugs 20k miles ago.
Yes amsoil power form?
You can use it , but i prefer not to wash all the crud into the engine . then it goes into the catalytic converter
thanks for the video i have a used 02 TB about to hit 250k miles only had to replace leaking AC but will need to do this in future the dealership will overcharge u lol
Thanks for watching
i cleaned reset code start up truck and no rpm at all when pushing gas if i leave it run and plug the scan tool in then reset the code then i have rpm till i shut key off im lost on this
May be the throttle body is bad , may need to do some testing on it
@@wtbm123 flushed out transmission line it was like never changed replace filter in the pan and added new fluid no engine codes any more my thought I think transmission was getting to hot
@@rickcarp5453 Glad you got it sorted out , And thank you for sharing what fixed yours . It may help someone some day that is reading the comments
