"Pay it forward", simple but effective, how many boards have you taken the cover off and cursed the sod that installed it or touched it last? Seen a few vids recently were they show off the purely pornographic boards that someone has taken time on and there's never enough of that.

James makes a good presenterr and shows his enthusiasm for the wok. The team seems to be working well and I think you look far more relaxed so the direction your taking works!
only thing id change about how you do your mcb/rcbos is leave a small loop down behind the breaker instead of straight into the top, so handy having spare length , i normally group all my lives into a bundle and loop it down behind the mcbs and bring them back up and bend back on itself into the mcb, that way they can basically reach anywhere inside the distribution board
loved the outtakes at the end, should be more of them, and yes, he does do a lot with his hands lol. but nice to see he takes such pride in his work at the end of the day, well done James.

James and Tom are both expressive with their hands, the thing that caught my eye more was the lighting James had where his hands cast shadows while moving around.
James knows a hwll of alot for a 16 year old! 🤣🤣 On a serious note though, the channel is quality...way ahead of the other YTers!

I love neat cabling. There are few things as satisfying as sitting back and looking at a just completed perfect cabling layout on the back of a rack of audio/video equipment. Nice work James.

Great job! I'm from Adelaide, Australia.
I use RCBOs all the time. The only main difference is most of our Distribution Boards are plastic. We only switch the Active on Main Switch.
Also our wiring colours are your "old style". Actives: Red, White (pre 80's yellow), Blue. Neutral: Black. Earth: Green/Yellow (pre 80's Green and also uninsulated). All our Twin & Earth cable have insulated Earth so we dont need Earth sleeving.
Our cables are all stranded.
We use 1.5mm for Lights, 2.5mm for Power, 4/6/10mm for heavier loads.
Main supply is normally 16mm or higher for larger installations. Main earth normally 6mm.

Awesome job on the fuse board James - OCD is both a blessing and a curse :) I have never seen a zip connector like you had on those fly leads at 13:38 - that is brilliant!
It's quite a common hack on you tube, I have seen that method used as a cable tidy
Thinking of the next person who comes to my fuseboards I always try and leave more length than that, but it compromises neatness.

I really like any tradesman who takes pride in their work! So thumbs up for that 👍 I’m not a fan of those clip on cable markers though! They have a habit of pinging off and getting lost. I do like the idea of marking up the cores though.
Nice work! Board wiring reminds me of working with Dornier techs when installing lithotripters many years ago. The techs were all trained to lay cables as if in an aircraft. A bit more time to install but very helpful tracing faults and understanding the house in the future.
How do they lay cables in aircrafts?
@@tommymack3210 with extreme neatness and organization. Obviously in a confined space like that you can't afford a lot of room for cabling so it's all bundled very nicely and very concisely.

Really great job super neat, I love to take my time on my own jobs but no way I would be able to come back the next day at work would be expected to do that board in a day or less shame that so many companies just want the cheapest quickest work I mainly do offices and industrial, and a lot of the work I see is utter rubbish keep up the good work.
What's the point in using metal boards, just to cut a big hole in the top. That plastic trunking isn't goin to contain a fire very well.
Thought was shit using copex for the Socket and wouldn't ever use impact driver on bakerlite type box 9 times out of ten smash it

That consumer unit was a work of art. I think whoever did ours was busy in the middle of an earthquake.
I've seen a few where the best solution would be to rip it all out and start over.
Do you have recommendations for the most premium and well thought out boards/ trunking , clips and breakers i think abb is the best but is there a better option?

So those ferrules, the way those are crimped do they actually hold onto the wires properly? All the times I have seen em they are usually squished down into squares or octogons.

Also very neat.. but you should consider spacing for the rcbos for heat dissipation.the zip tie trick is a good idea for reducing gouping factors.

Just curious and maybe a topic you can talk on Tom.. The top of the consumer unit was slotted and plastic trunking above, I didnt see any attempt to seal the slot following cable installation, what method was used?
Also re: Cable ties inside CCUs, is this now an accepted practice as I always thought not? I’m out of touch with latest regs so maybe you can explain?
i have one question... after you have stripped all the cables. and lost the signing.. do you still know what every cable was for?
I’m in the marine electronics world, we would usually crimp bootlace ferrules with a square crimp. Is there a reason you crimped with a U crimp?
Well said ... I have been a master electrician going on 40 years ... I am still learning ... the more you learn the more you realise how little you actually know.
Instead of using '0' on the rings, use A & B and for the sake of a few extra quid get an insulated mirror just in case...

They only work if you’re in a Sprint area but be interested to see how that pans out when you do it as we just pop to Electricfix to collect stuff
I just connect the blues and whites without the trimming and crimping I’m 50 and past giving a fuck
