Hi Nick I have just purchased a property with what seems sound enough wiring but an old style consumer unit dating about 1993 so hoping to get a similar job to this consumer unit upgrade. I certainly don’t want to go down the route of a rewire and all the hassle and mess with that but assuming the wiring tests fine which I’m hoping it will we won’t be in that territory. Very informative video as always.
You got rid of the slack. You could have kept it in the trunking. In 2025 when the 25th edition makes plastic CUs compulsory it will need rewiring in lead sheathed red and black cable.
just a quick question I've got an spd device in my consumer unit in a new build house but it's just blank on the two little windows so can't see grwwn or red light it's an hager spd 015 do I need too call the property develepor too get their electrican out too look at it
jammyb2008 yeah the length was there to do it. Been called to some houses over the years as the power was still on but the shower didn’t work as it was tripped in a different location.
Looks neat, but why are you cutting the cables to length? The next guy in 30 years will have issues replacing it. It would have left that cable length in that big trunking
why did british gas put warning on wylex cu in the first place though? was it the missing fuse cover or lack of rcd protection even though regs arent retrospective?
While a neat board is 👍🏻. The cable ties on the bunched cables de rate the cables. While it may not look as good on TH-cam using the available space to avoid such issue is recommended.
why did you not put the spd and main isolation on the left as an old timer i would have left some slack in the trunking foe edition 2007 when they want you to change a board for no reason its neat but think of the next guy who needs a bit more cable because the breaker fried
Great video Nick, I would have just pulled out the shower panel and cleaned it up even more. Then the supply could have went up and around instead. Either way just an armchair suggestion here. 🍺
I think it had only just been installed and maybe under warranty. While it would have been neater, I can also see the advantage of leaving the large load on its own.
Do not stand on toilets or seats, theyre meant to sit on, and top tip cover with a thick dust sheet or blanket, just incase you drop something down it, as it will disapear round the u bend by accident or a hammer falls off somewhere.Great video.
Nice to see you use a bit of trunking, always looks more sensible that way. Personally I would leave some extra slack inside the trunking and not trim wires back so short inside the CU. Seems to be a strange trend to have wires very short inside consumer units these days. I like to leave slack wherever possible for future works but seems that no one does this anymore. Can make future testing and fault finding easier if you do that. I don't get this OCD consume unit stuff which everyone seems to love now. The client will probably never even see inside!? Obviously it shouldn't look like a complete dogs dinner but there is a happy medium in my humble opinion but i'm an old git so what the fuck would I know
You lend your van to a plumber, now it's worthless 😂😂 btw you could easily stick the shower on the main board and just have everything in one place. Nice work, Fusebox rules 😂
Cable flags, save the tape and just number the cables up with a sharpie and write a ref sheet or the test sheet in the order you want the final DB numbering to be 💪 flag at the end if you really feel the need 😁
2 lengths come with the CP Fusebox board. They are an exact fit for the rear knockouts. That’s attention to detail from the manufacturer - or a lucky coincidence!
It's a real shame that such a neat and tidy job, is going to be hidden in a cupboard. I'd of plastered over the brick work, and ditched most of the cupboard. It looks to be sticking out just enough that you could easily bump your head on it constantly.
I'm surprised they are allowed to cover over a circuit box. Code here in the States it has to be accessible and nothing blocking from opening the box door.
Why not move the 10mm shower in to main board? Get some 15mm copper pipe and a slice can cut yourself standoffs to any length :) I was waiting for you to drop stuff in the Loo!
I've often wondered why sparkys spend so much time "dressing" the CU when just 2 meters away and out of sight it is all a dog's breakfast. I guess its to convince the consumer that their money is well spent.
Adams lucky to have a great apprentice like you Nick
😂😂😂
ditto
Adam keeps you out of trouble, 😁😁
Great work. You’ve got a priceless relationship with Adam that fills your work with positivity. 👌
Great videos Nick. I like your style on here. I’m multitrade but have a keen interest in electrical stuff. Thank you.
You good job nick!!! Nice install for an apprentice you coming on well Adam is training you so well
Nice work i like.my self working in schneider electric break and fix HV gear, when i have time i watch you.

Nice job once again, good to be doing such a thing at a reasonable hour, not waking up the customer and neighbours with smashing up toilet seats.

good job again nick and adams done well hard doing consumers in confined spaces eh.
A raffle for your old van is a great idea. I would definitely enter.

Nice work mate! As usual. You know how to do things right, and honestly.
Another great video nick, hope your staying safe in these times 😀
Why does UK have the fuse boards in the WEIRDEST locations ever?
Not only it is close to the ceiling, but in small confined closets even.
In older houses downstairs closets were often converted into toilets as they used to be outside.
Yes boys, notification came through on the loo
So did Nick
Id have put a bit of ply over the toilet and stood on that instead, easy enough to keep in the van somewhere 👍 saves leaning over chris 😂
Lovely and neat Nick, leave the slack in the trunking tho💪
Great honest video. Keep up the good work
Why wouldn’t you put the shower in the new db?
British Gas work normally carries warranty so any fault with there work in the future they'll say not us you've played around on it
Why didn’t you include the shower into the new db to keep all circuits together.
My thoughts too. All that expense. The time it would’ve taken. All it would’ve cost is an extra RCBO.
jammyb2008 yeah the length was there to do it. Been called to some houses over the years as the power was still on but the shower didn’t work as it was tripped in a different location.
I was thinking exactly the same. One DB. Loose the Henley block.
Looks neat, but why are you cutting the cables to length? The next guy in 30 years will have issues replacing it. It would have left that cable length in that big trunking
Wants some more copper to make ingots out of 🤣🤣
It’ll need rewiring in 30 years lol
“Electricians dream this much cable.”
Proceeds to cut it all off for the next guy.
That installation wont last another 30years (its probably about 30year old already) therefore doesnt matter
I agree, tuck a little slack behind the breakers atleast 😂
Definitely up for a van raffle!
Great vid. My house is old and the fuse box is ancient. How much would it cost to bring into this era and is it harder for old properties.
If the consumer unit is fitted in a room where ambient temperature is always 27-30 degrees, will it fail or is it ok? No way to get a vent in either.
Great video Nick, love the dig at Jordan 🤣🤣🤣
Who is Jordan? I'm new here
I was expecting Adam the superstar influencer to be in charge! 😂👍🏼
He was he told Nick not to use flexicon and do it in trunking. Joking aside it's a good working relationship they have.
board change outs are the best
Nick someone told me to bend the fixing lugs you don't need on single boxes, do you agree?
I think it's good practice and can't stop now.
Sad I know
Neat board but you had all that trunking space to leave any slack, why cut it off?
Always taught to leave slack for the next man.
Leave some slack, ya might be back haha
I used my old immersion heater cable for an server room
I have an old storage heater ring that's no longer used that I plan to do exactly the same
why did british gas put warning on wylex cu in the first place though? was it the missing fuse cover or lack of rcd protection even though regs arent retrospective?
Really good job there Nick
What is the requirements for 18th edition for a fuse box?
Did you drop any tools down the loo ?
That’s a very neat job considering it’s going to be covered up.
I'd love a van. Raffle it! Great video by the way 👍
Yes mate! Raffle the van! GREAT idea!!
While a neat board is 👍🏻. The cable ties on the bunched cables de rate the cables. While it may not look as good on TH-cam using the available space to avoid such issue is recommended.
Have you done your 2391 nick
Most definitely raffle the van
16:50 SLAM - P O W! Brought out the big guns. Just because Robin was by himself without Superman! 😎😎👍👍
Excellent video chaps-well done-D
With the fuseboard and the big knockouts at the back how do you fire proof them to stop the spread of a fire mate
You can use sealant but the regs don’t require it
Brilliant work and thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care
I had to make that dangerous decision today.. do i or do i not stand on the toilet seat to run my cables... i chose correctly.
Daft I know, but what's Adams channel called?

Great video like always. What did u use to space the fuse board of the wall please great idea
Who does a board change at 02:30 in the morning lol artison by any chance lol
Why did you not bring
Are you supposed to bend the unused threads in the single boxes out the way. I tested my earthing with it. Breaker works
Nice work Nick just like always.
That old immersion cable could be a double socket in that cupboard on a 20amp rcbo.
Rear entry and side entry mix.... nice
I've just started out and would buy a raffle ticket for the van 🚚 👍

Great videos, can I have the promotion code please, need to get fuse board.
Thank you
8:31 yeah raffle sounds good, but get a solicitor involved like Chris did, to make sure it's all above board 😎

What did you use to keep it off the wall? Didn’t quiet get what you said, all’s I hear was coupler lol thanks
Hi Nick, can you recommend a labelling machine please?
Yes mate the brother p touch 550w
@@NBundyElectrical fab nice one buddy! 💪
1:09 it's ok get a plumber round to replace the seat 😆😆😆
The plumber owes him a favor for lending him his old van.
Hi mate
Still got the van to sell ?
Thanks
It's wild you guys have the panel in the bathroom.
With most old houses in the UK it never starts out that way lol was probably a storeroom when house was originally built
@@lewis94uk Probably a coalhouse or outside toilet, the conversions are such a nightmare for damp

Lovely job that mate 👍👍
There can't be many old wooden back fuse board's left in UK unless you take all the old farm house that not been up graded
We’ve taken out loads still is plenty around
There was in my house, had it upgraded as soon as I moved in.
What did you use to space out the CCU for back entry?
Conduit couplers
Good job mate! ⚡️🤟
Hey nick, how much did you want on the van, let me know
Old RCD? Isn't that an old VOLTAGE trip?
Might of been best to leave the imm/htr live in case the boiler broke down ,at least you have not water ,good job 👍
He said the heater was faulty.
Where did you get that grommet strip from?

who did the 2am consumer unit change?
artisan

Great I vote for a reffal for you old van.
Are you interested to come to Ireland and change a fuse board in my house ?
Nice thin spd
Usual good quality
👍 for the late night consumer unit comment 😂
Can’t believe you don’t use a bucket to throw all your cut/stripped cable in instead of just throwing on the floor 😮.
Am a plumber, can confirm that this is how electricians roll 😂
I thought all sparkies worked until 2:30am you’re such a slacker nick 🤣
What did you drop in the loo? Don’t lie! 😂
thanks chaps
or donate the van to an organization or something that needs vehicles?
50 quid for that old smoker, more like a fiver a pop.
I think Nagy couldn’t just raffle off his van, he had to ask a question to make it a prize skill competition or something
It’s still very much a grey area.
Good job 😎
Would you like to come to Ireland to change a fuse board for me ?

His a youtube star in his own right now Nick has to pay an appearance fee to him.
yes deffo do a raffle!
