He's probably not used to being filmed doing his job. And it's got to get a bit taxing with people saying 'Hold on, let me move the camera' over and over in the middle of a supposed non-stop conversation.

Should be fine Matt. I bought a 3.2 Targa from them years ago - it was fine. They price their cars keenly and turn them over, rather than ask a high price and hold stock for too long. That's why they don't offer discount. check suspension bushes.

LV when I learnt to drive my uncle told me the M6 toll had no speed limit (not true). My ford puma did 130mph and I was very lucky not to get caught!

Came back to this video today (same day Mat posted his collecting a 992 GT3RS video). Amazing. Also nuts to see how cheap 996s uses to be!
There is no way I would purchase any car from that sales rep.
But most of them are like that; shifty and know very little about cars.
Think that dealer has a reputation for clocking.

I've always liked that incarnation of the 911. Of course I've always liked to be the fan of the underdog as well. Doesn't matter what "most people" think, as long as you find the right thing to yourself just stick with it and enjoy it!

I finally managed to get my dream car earlier this year. R34 Skyline with only 11k miles on it. It's such a special car to drive.
Paid a lot but you can't beat that feeling when you at last get that ride you always wanted.
Problem with buying older top end cars is that the bills can be crippling. This still represents nearly 25% of the original price. Only camper vans do better but they have van bills.
I love that contrast colour and pure driving feeling !! Worth every cent

'We never negociate on price' Well I would turn my back and walk out... What is that for bullshit and garage... So because its a Porsche? Well it's an old one and not that expensive. And it's evennot a real Porsche Dealer. The paint has some small issues and also the windows and some other little things. So yes negociate about the price is def. something I would have done... But oke Mat, nice car and Im sure you will enjoy this car. Have fun and im looking forward for new videos like this!

Porsche generally doesn't negotiate on price. it's not that specific dealer. I haven't owned one myself but I have heard this from multiple people already.
It's a 16 year old used car from some corner dealership. Ofc it has to be negotiable. Especially since he put a tag on the car, and after that Mat pointed out problems which the dealer only addressed in a half assed manner. I doubt he will have really put on new brake pads for example.
I gotta say I love the headlights and body shape of the 996, and with the gt3 wing it just looks mad. I like the 996 more than the newer Carreras with the small circular headlights
You should have taken Rebecca Jackson shopping with you. Knows her Porsches and I'm sure she could have negotiated a deal with the salesman! Cracking buy though Mat!
You bought a great car to drive. older Porsches are the pure driving machines. congrats!
Honestly I would have not bought the car and the reason is simple. The car has low mileage and the salesman tells me it is a London car. So basically, the car has spent most of his life driving in the city, or at least the last 8 years which the salesman says they have been servicing it. I would rather have a second hand car which has spent most of his life in the highway (motorway) rather than a car which has low mileage and spent most of his life in the city.
Exactly my thoughts. Stop/start driving. Plus the comment about sweating oil?
Cold startup is the worst time for an engine as the bearings are dry for a few seconds. Multiply that by a billion for a car that lived its life in a city.
Its amazing how few Porsche cars arrive on the market, without that optional adaptive steering wheel.
The majority of Porsche owners have bought their vehicle from new, and very few ive looked at, in quite a few main dealers around the country, have cars with the desirable adaptive steering wheel option.
The factory fitted adaptive steering wheel, is decent value compared to a lot of the expensive items on the options list, and its an option that makes everyday driving such a pleasure.
Whatever the model, 911, Cayman, Panamera, very few come with the optional adaptive steering wheel.
I wonder why ?
As long as the IMS has been done, you're golden. Enjoy it. If not, have it done immediately before the engine grenades.
Put in a short shift kit. Forget the new exhaust or gonzo hack. You are not 16 anymore. Spend your money on new coil overs (W030 option kit), bushing and go have some fun. Although keep some cash and an eye on that oil weeping. The seals on the RMS and IMS go eventually.
Watched this a few times Matt and decided it’s my time now to get one!! Same year as yours and have been worrying about a few usual horror stories but just need this I’m my life now!! 😁👌🏼 you still happy with your choice Matt now you’ve had some life with the car?? 🤔

I can't really tell, but does the 911 have metallic paint? It seems it has the standard paint.
Also I'd suggest clay clean the paint (from what I can tell it's not in it's best condition) and apply a fresh layer of resin to remove paint swirls, tiny scuffs, then apply wax to make it shinny and pop the color and finally a sealant to keep it nice and clean.

Brave purchase. Tested the 3.4 and the 3.6 years ago and would never choose the 3.4 over the 3.6. The extra torque of the 3.6 makes all the difference and the headlights are a lot more attractive.
A 911 is my dream car too, a 997 Carrera S in silver with tan interior :)

Man idk how car buying is in UK but if someone told me I couldn't negotiate on the price I'd walk out right then and there. There are plenty of other good examples out there to choose from, from dealers willing to play ball. I hope they at least fixed the car up for you at no extra cost.
But enough negativity, congrats on the Porsche! I hope it gives you many miles of fun. Enjoy it!

996 is a good car. Coming from a 991 owner.
I'm worried about IMS problem (intermediate shaft) in the 996 engine

I really loved this, thank you Mat! I wish I was even 20% as knowledgable as you about buying a car, the first car I bought was an overpriced Passat that a year later has a ton of costly engine-related issues (and it's a late 2010 model).

I own a C4S 996 with the revised headlight design and it is a glorious car...they don't feel their age and I've had 0 problems with it so far

I owned both a year 2000 Porsche 911 and a 1992 Toyota MR2 (both automatic) at the same time and I preferred driving the MR2 around town.
I have to admit, good choice. I was thinking about a Porsche boxter. What is your thoughts? It's just a car to drive around, and also my grandpa used to have the car, so I kinda want it for him when we hang out.

Looks a nice example matt,colours are such a personal preference. for me a 911 check is history,have known weak spots been addressed, body damage,corrosion issues,brakes,tyres (clutch in your case) and exhaust including manifolds.
how far wrong can you go for a low mileage,with history 911 for circa 16k.
Having looked at some similar age Boxsters I must be one of the few that actually likes the headlamps! Nice colour.

Spooky, I've been looking at getting a 996 for the past few months then my fav reviewer goes and buys one as well! I'd initially thought about the 3.4 but a higher miler as the IMS is less likely to be an issue. Then I do prefer the lights on the 3.6 and it has PSM especially on a C2! Bore scoring is something to be aware of but from my research the IMS and bore scoring and seal issues are not as much a problem as made out especially on these older cars! The older the car the less likely it is to be an issue! Buy it and maintain it, if it needs a new clutch get the IMS upgraded then? Oh, I do like the blue and beige combo! Mind you I've seen cheaper ones than £16k, saw a nice C4S on 70k for £17! That's likely to be a classic 996!

300bhp is not a lot for a sports car by today'standard, but surely plenty enough for a bit of fun without traction control. I personally wouldn't pay that much for a 16yrs old 996. But as long as it puts a smile on your face! Enjoy the ride.

Check the clearance between the steering fluid system and the exhaust system. Nearly killed myself because of that a few days ago.

Well done !!!!! I've had a 3.4 - so much fun. I got a new iMS kit put on mine - but in hindsight - I reckon it could have stayed with out the upgrade. Great driving car :)
