16:15 says it all. Jay’s face and boyish giggle (that we all have with a new toy) just shows his pure joy of cars and driving. That’s what I love and respect about Jay. Some billionaires go out and buy cars to put up and show off. Not Jay. He just loves each one in it’s respective right and he enjoys them.

Jay, I've seen this video a few times. It is the sweet spot for you and many of us. McLaren P1. The others (F1, Merc, 570) in the background. The CEO. The street driving in the hills. And most importantly the genuine enthusiasm on your face. Many many of us are saying "Thank you", and "Congratulations".

Jay is a car guy in the true sense of the word. Most of us will never afford a McLaren P1, but we feel quite at home looking over Jay's shoulder as he drives his, and being in on the conversation. He doesn't mind us going along for the ride. A "collector" never conveys that sense of sharing the experience. Love the video Jay! Enjoy the P1!

The P1 is seriously so beautiful. I saw it on the highway in Atlanta flying in and out of traffic and it is truly stunning and looks TINY. It seemed like the driver must have been laying down it was that close to the ground and small. Definitely my dream car after seeing it in person that day. It was white. Masterpiece! I hope you all can see one one day!
Just coming across this video. My teenage son was lucky enough to take a ride with Jay back in July. He mentioned how impressed he was with the braking and after watching this, I now realize why. Thanks again Jay for what you did that Sunday morning. He (nor I) will ever forget it.
this is the epitome of a man doing what he genuinely loves for a living. of course, the content of this show/channel is fantastic, but I love seeing the pure joy and true excitement expressed by Jay. he had to fake being interested for years on the tonight show, but now you can see that he's truly happy and doing what he loves.

I noticed something...most cars Jay drives, even the Bugatti Veyron and Hennessey Venom GT, he is very neutral and straight-faced during the drive, and even if he enjoys it, doesn't express it much. But when he drives the P1, he's always laughing and smiling. That says something.

In 2023, Tavarish bought one of these "cheap" that had been flooded... in saltwater. He's just starting out on a complete rebuild and is fully aware of the scale of his undertaking.

No offense to the other great TH-camrs out there, but Jay does some of the most awesome videos on TH-cam and he still gets less than a million views usually. He really deserves better. I don't think he cares though. He's just having fun.
I just have such a hankering for an American Top Gear style show. All he needs is a floppy haired pedant and a short angry guy and we're there.
They had Top Gear USA and it just kind of sucked...no chemistry like the BBC guys. Worst of all...no Stig

American top gear kinda just sucks... you can't copy what Clarkson, may, and hammond had together.
It's great knowing that some of the guys who can afford one of these are like Jay
I had the opportunity to drive a P1 VERY VERY BRIEFLY and at low speed, but even then..... the car felt incredible. Even sitting in it is an experience, the steering felt very direct too. Surprisingly though it doesen't have a "rolling gear" like most semi-automatic-automatic cars have. Which makes it that much cooler to drive, because it feels a little bit like your driving a manual when your modulating the gas in and out slightly to set off. Also the doors have weights in them, so you need to let them simply drop by themselves, or else they will slam. I was fortunate enough to sit in a Mclaren F1 Longtail. It felt so special sitting in the center driving seat. I cant imagine what the F1 is like to drive.

I'm British so don't really know A lot about Jay Leno but he seems like a really nice, genuine guy who's extremely passionate about cars. Just think it's really cool of him to share his passion and his garage of very cool cars. Go Jay!

Jay's facial expression when he's driving in the second half are just priceless. It's like he's getting married to a supermodel and watching their child graduate from Princeton over and over and over again.
In the 9 years that's passed since Jay got his P1, he's mentioned in almost every video how terrible it is to drive on the road because it's so low the undercarriage gets destroyed every time it goes over the slightest bump. So despite of how amazing a car it is, it's also equally amazingly bad at being a road going vehicle. Like many other supercars, it became yet another amazing vehicle that excels at its uselessness

hey I just seen Jay and this exact P1 just down the street at my local car show and it's just so cool to see one and to see Jay. He also let some kids jump in front seat which just shows how humble and down to earth we car people are.
If I could have any car, and I mean ANY car, this would be the one. I LOVE the styling, the performance, everything about it. I'll never own one. But if I did have the money, this would be my first purchase, if I could get my hands on one.

First time watching this video in 2020. I know, late to the party. But man was Jay just so happy & alive. I don't think I've seen any other video of him so impressed & proud of what he was driving.

The only reason I can think of that would make McLaren not want to reveal the Nürburgring lap time is that the 918 is FASTER!!!!!(Not to mention more luxurious, cheaper, and the 918 was easier to get due to the larger number of cars produced) Porsche there is no substitute!!!

Go-karts are fun! I reminisce back when I was 17er'old, there was this go-kart down the road that did not have a engine in it. I asked the man if he would sell it, he said sure, so i bought it from him. He said he would sell me a water pump gassed engine to go with it, I said sure! It worked out great, I gave all my friend's at one time a RIDE on it around our neighborhood block of about 1/2 mile, it was crazy fun, because I guess we were so young! Welcome to my world back in the late 60's and early 70s!..

+Robert Grant No you didn't. I have friends that work at The Toy Barn and M.A.G. Insurance companies won't let these be test driven for massive amounts of money and dealerships don't want to take the risk. There's not as much of a profit margin on these cars as one might think.

We have a new show Called Houston Life here on NBC in Houston we had to luxury car segment where we drove in the parking lot, Trust me we Knew all about the liability, now they did take us on the highway with two cars, and boy where they fast!! and like I said my G37 will never be the same again

I feel like the F1 will never be replaced for a long time as the only supercar that's basically an F1 car made street legal, with an F1 engine, F1 controls, F1 cockpit (almost), normally aspirated, and made by the (at least at the time, and still today) leading F1 car makers at the time, with pure 100% roadfeel.
The P1 is still close but its more of a modern F1 supercar similar to 2014 F1, with a twin turbo V8, and use of hybrid technology to compensate for turbo lag. The F1 was the good old F1 car with a skinny V12 that revs like crazy and makes that orgasmic sound.... And is about as green as an oil drilling rig leak, with 6 miles to the gallon.... So yeah, they did the right thing by going towards the future.
All points are well said in all areas. I have to 100% agree on F1 statue in road cars. Nothing will ever replace it. Gordon and development team hit on all points of the car. The only really knock was the brakes. CCB street tech was in the early stages. Murray tried to use this F1 racing tech but no one had yet refined for road use. I'm pretty sure Mclaren offers some type of upgrades for the brakes. So basically now you can have a total up to date vehicle. Which still looks like it belongs with all cars of today. Tire tech has improved also making F1 handle even better on road.
P1 will be iconic in a different way to the pure analog F1.
All those "dangerous" characteristics of the older F1 make it more exciting to me :D, i think the only real difference between the two are that the P1 will do what a good driver does FOR YOU, and the F1 simply needs a real driver behind the wheel lol.
