Nice work! Very efficient building methods. I'd like to see more of how you finish it out with electrical, heating, insulation, and the rear deck addition. I would call this a "Carriage house" as opposed to a garage. This would be a nice way to add a rental apartment to a residential home site. Thanks
You make an outstanding video. You should make more. Your music, speech patterns and production are terrific. Nice work. Way too often folks who have no business making videos try to do it. You have the gift !
wow that is beautiful.. . I wouldn't put in the garage door, I would add two sets of French patio doors instead and then I would absolutely LIVE IN THIS building... wow..
Kens crew does good work, I sould know been a union carpenter for 32yrs. First time that I watched. The sugestions and coments are inquisitive , I am shur they would like a little more feed back than just a; / Thanks.
I have done similar buildings here in Virginia. Always had to have the monolithic slab footing turn down to frost depth (32”) . Wish we could make our own trusses here too. Nice job. Thanks for posting.
Thanks true. A couple things for me. 1. The weight...I don’t have the same muscles from 20 years ago. :). 2. Sometimes there’s a slight variation in the concrete so the sheathed wall doesn’t sit flat.
That ladder hoist is the best. I’ll have to see if we can rent one. We’re thinking about building a garage w an apartment on top. Thank you for this video. We’re wanting to put a bedroom downstairs in the workshop and you mentioned using different products. This will be our “up north” get away so, you also mentioned how you have the windows high up for when your not there in hopes for a less break in. Love how you mentioned that as well. I did enjoy it! Michigan
This is great!! But I'd love to see it done inside... Thinking of adding a garage with an apartment for my Mother above it. Thanks for sharing, I'll take a look at your other videos. ps... Many of us are contemplating the same idea for our parents if you could keep us in mind as you build more.
California Union carpenter here...back in the day wall bangers were paid by the sq foot to stand walls...the bone yard would pre cut a header package, the bone would drop a load in front of the slab,1 man would pound the nails/no nail gun back than.Paid 22.00 bucks per Garage/took me 2 hours...
Hey Ken, My first time commenting. Love watching your videos, the length of your videos are perfect for a morning coffee and your content is precise and to the point, NO DRAMA, just a little humor now and then, thanks for that. I have many questions but that would take all morning and 10 cups of coffee. I don't know if you have a video of your tool trailer? if not, do you think it could be of any value or maybe just entertainment? Any how, great work, and have a great day. Stay safe.
Very nice. I live in tornado country and do not know if the attachment of the walls to the foundation will pass around here. But, if not, they can be modified. Nice vid and nice job.
Thanks for the video. I am starting the thinking process of doing a 24' deep by 30' wide detached garage with an ADU above. I'll have a separate dedicated entrance for the ADU. I just haven't decided if I go a simple gable or perhaps a clerestory roof design.
I’d like to see a similar building built with Zip-Sheath product and maybe hardyboard siding vs. vinyl. Obviously, I’d like to see how it was finished. Insulation, plumbing, finish carpentry on the stairs. Very nice job.
Morning. This is a nice garage with efficiency apartment above. Lots of light as well. Won’t feel closed in. Thanks for my daily dose. Enjoy your coffee.
Id love for you guys to build a garage for me. But, alas, Delaware is a tad more than 60 miles from you! lol I really like how down to earth you seem and how you explain what you are doing.
Ken you folks done a beautiful job! Dang hard to find good, honest, and skillful works. I feel the contractor here ( Hawaii) always subcontracting there jobs and they do horrible job.and over priced. You folks are awesome!
I built a similar barn with stick for 1st floor and post/beam second floor/third floor. A little movement upstairs but so far held up even in high winds.
The very last thing you should do is put the railing on the stairs, you will need every inch of clearance to get appliances and furniture up that staircase.
pretty much exactly what i'm looking for. I'm in SW Missouri so i know you are not going to come out and build me one, but i would love to see you do a video on suggestions on how to select a contractor for such kind of buildings- what to ask, how to determine a rough but fair cost, any other due diligence you suggest, etc. That would be extremely helpful.
My only thought is if you intend to have a deck off the back, would it not be better to have the access stairs to go via the deck rather than inside? It would give a little more floor space and leave the entire garage area seperate, particularly good if the garage and the apartment are rented out separately or used by different people. if I understand correctly, that would mean turning some other area into an egress, right?
You should have put some insulation between wooden planks and concrete foundation. Concrete is cold and on warm air will create humidity which will be accumulated by wood.

I like how you prefab everything possible in your shop ahead of time, even made your own trusses.
Thanks
Watching this reminds me of working with my grand pa. We built two gambrel roofed style barns. Great job and Thank you for the memories.
Sweet apartment. That’s going to be a cozy space.
Thanks

When I was framing we would sheet the outside walls before standing them up - faster easier ...

Wow, you boys got that up PDQ! Nice job too. That'll make a nice little apartment or guest house for someone!
Thanks
I must say it was quite enjoyable and somewhat relaxing watching it all come together. Great Job!
Thanks

Thanks
Nice recap on the build Ken, turned out great.
Thanks
The older guy is worth every penny you are paying him
Haha. My son does a lot of off camera behind the scenes stuff that he doesn’t get credit for.

Thanks for watching. I’ll try to work my trailer into a video
Love there’s no waste on a 4x8 sheet with a little math and thinking ahead!
Yes definitely
Great work Ken. What is the cost if you don’t mind me asking just for the shell like it is now
Fantastic. I love how quickly things came together having done most of your framing beforehand.
Thanks
Very nice. I live in tornado country and do not know if the attachment of the walls to the foundation will pass around here. But, if not, they can be modified. Nice vid and nice job.
Awesome work... Fine craftmanship
Thanks

Thanks for the video. I am starting the thinking process of doing a 24' deep by 30' wide detached garage with an ADU above. I'll have a separate dedicated entrance for the ADU. I just haven't decided if I go a simple gable or perhaps a clerestory roof design.

You get the distinct impression that those guys have worked together before.
Thanks
Id love for you guys to build a garage for me. But, alas, Delaware is a tad more than 60 miles from you! lol I really like how down to earth you seem and how you explain what you are doing.
Bummer thanks
6:00 2 young guys on 1 side. 1 older guy on the other. “No problem”. says the older guy. I wish I could be in that great of shape when i get his age.
Haha
Great job and inspiring. Looking to do something similar here in LA county, CA.
Oh nice
Ken you folks done a beautiful job! Dang hard to find good, honest, and skillful works. I feel the contractor here ( Hawaii) always subcontracting there jobs and they do horrible job.and over priced. You folks are awesome!

Man I wish I could hire you, you and your team are fantastic.

seal up those garage doors, no gaps greater then 1/4" keep out the rodents, your friendly exterminator.
This is terrific and even come with little extra bonus small department
Nicely done, have you ever used a router with a pilot bit instead of a reciprocating saw to remove the sheathing from the window openings?
I haven’t
40k including the foundation?
Nice spacious garage with living space. Looks like the headroom on the landing is a bit tight .
Great video thanks ken stay safe 👍🏻
Thanks you too
Nice Job, great project and video!
Thanks
Cool I just noticed your in VT. I am in South Burlington.
Nice. Stay safe
Love the scenery
Thanks
Great job looks good i would like to build one one day

I noticed you didn't wrap the second floor on one side, mind letting me know why that wasn't done? Btw amazing build. Looks great. Real quick and nice
We eventually wrapped it. Thanks for watching
thtas os pretty and gorgeouss! loving the roof design too!
Thanks for watching
You should have put some insulation between wooden planks and concrete foundation. Concrete is cold and on warm air will create humidity which will be accumulated by wood.
We staple sill seal to the pressure treated bottom plate before we tip it up.
I'd like to live there but have a pole to slide down into the garage. These guys work smart. How did he get up there at 12:46?
Haha. We just use ladders
What do you think the garage would cost in today's materials prices?
you can tell these guys have done this before, nice work
Thanks
Well done build and video 👍👍
Thanks
How do you stop the wall from tipping over at 8:52? Is it just having a firm grip or is there some clever trick to that?
Thanks. We toenail the wall to the floor like a piano hinge then tip it up
Great work and videos, I wish you worked near me. Thank you.
Thanks. :)
That is some is beautiful country!
Yes it is.
Would’ve been nice to see the finished product, inside and out
These guys are obviously professionals.
Thanks
I respect the fact that u share the price. Well done.
Thanks
This channel is amazing 👏
Thanks for watching
Not your typical barn style but one with style
Thanks
I love that ladder hoist, it's money!
Thanks
very nice. I like the mix of the 2 different roof designs. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it looks great.
Why did the customer opt for that?
Would have liked to see how you finished the eves.
Maybe next time
Great little structure!
Thanks for watching
Got a general price for material to get just this far with no interior?
Nice job. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching.
Awesome work but no tie off?? You make it look easy for your age hats off to u!
Love this space, I'd love to build something similar!
Great Video! Do you have plans available on this build?
Thanks for watching. Sorry I don’t.
I can't understand the thumbs down on any of your video's. Great work!
Thanks for watching
Nicely done!
