Building a Large Garage FULL TIME LAPSE: Never before seen footage!!

  • I filmed this entire build series, about a year ago, and never had time to edit it into a full video series. We built our customers a 40x60x16 residential style post frame garage, and finished the interior to prep for a man cave. Take a watch, wait til the end, and tell me what you think. I'll be honest, there isn't an easier, more cost effective way to build a large scale garage, than to use post frame construction. Let me know what you think, drop me a comment below, and hit the subscribe button, because we've got some great projects coming in 2025! I used my GoPro time-lapse setting on my Hero 13 Black for 90 percent of this video.

    The fit and finish are so good that it makes the drone footage at the end look almost like a computer rendering. Thanks for the very satisfying video and taking the time to anticipate the shots required to produce this time lapse.

    What an inspiration you guys have been for me! Im a self employed carpenter and built an addition on my shop in 2008. Well it been in typar house wrap for 16 years "kinda embarrassing". But i finally decided to do rugged rib steel on the walls. The cost was quite significantly cheaper than diamond coat siding. Went with a charcoal crinkle. In the 26 years ive been self employed ive only dont sheet steel on a big shop we did years ago. Its not quite as easy as lap siding i can say that. The tips and tricks in your videos have got me through the project. The main one was leaving out top j channel. I did struggle with a few sheets where the j channel was on boths sides and top of gable but i can say its done and all my neighbors are really happy with the outcome! I cant thank you guys enough for getting me to the finish line! Aaron-great falls montana!

    Not your biggest built, but in my book one of your best!! Simple structure, good choice of materials (classic red exterior, I like the dark stone) and a clean interior with that plywood wall to support shelves and workbenches. Funny how a small porch took probably more days than the main structure :), but it makes the looks.

    Such a great looking building! Genuinely curious, what is the benefit of having the same color wainscott and upper wall steel, vs just using one piece for the whole wall? Also, I was curious about how you guys start the gable wall steel on a ripped sheet and end on a ripped sheet. I like how it is symmetrical to have two equal pieces on either end, but is it also okay to just start with full sheets and end with a 12" piece?

    Great looking building, as always. One question...since the metal wainscoting on most of the building was the same color as the upper walls, I was wondering if there was a reason to use wainscoting at all, instead of simply running the wall panels full height. Maybe it was done to visually connect with the stone wainscoting in the porch area.

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it’s just an aesthetic choice, without it the building would look much ‘cheaper’. It’s adds class.

    • @AL_K_
      @AL_K_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is cheaper to NOT put up wainscoting but that way is more expensive to maintain. If a vehicle or implement damages the outer cladding it is cheaper to replace a short piece of wainscoting than a full sheet.

    You've probably already explained it in the past, but... why do you and others leave pouring a floor until after the building is up? Wouldn't, basically everything, be easier if the floor was already there?
    I am planning to be putting up a barndominuim in the next couple years. It's going to be 1/2 post frame and 1/2 stick built. Hopefully, I can do it in 2 phases starting with the garage portion..
    I have an idea that I haven't seen before - reverse spray foam.... True the frame, install the inner liner, spray foam from the outside, then sheet it.
    Have any thoughts on this?

    Looks like the wall to roof flashing on porch may not be quite correct. Usually the tyvek would go over the flashing. At 12:45 it looks like the flashing is on top of the tyvek and it doesn't look taped. But even tape isn't enough to flash properly. Unlike a zip or weatherlogic system. Maybe I just can't see it from video.

    Here it's probably just my Scandinavian way of thinking that comes into play. You put some form of insulation on the wall but nothing in the floor and ceiling, so you might as well not put anything in the walls. The biggest heat loss comes from the ceiling, which seeks heat upwards and the cold of the earth draws into the house from below.
    It is important to have about 400 mm of "16 inch" insulation in your ceiling, if possible.
    If you are installing an all-terrain deck, you should put about 300 mm of "12 inch" insulation. 🤔🤔🤫🤠😎

    • @michiganengineer8621
      @michiganengineer8621 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They put up a slide at 20:41 R-38 fiberglass for the ceiling and R-19 for the walls. I'm guessing the property owner is going to be pouring a concrete floor later, MAYBE with foam underneath although that's not common for a shop/storage barn.
