Man, I really had no clue about Bobby. Sure, I know the name and his association with Indy and doing something with Jaguar in F1, but not a lot more. I really don't follow Indy racing, I used to be addicted to F1, so its not close to home -- although everyone knows the name Bobby Rahal. I am a collector of air cooled Porsches and also have a Touring 1973 RS among other great Porsches... Nice to see Bobby's love for those cars too. Anyway, I really did like this presentation. Bobby seems like a thoughtful, respectful and decent guy who loves his motorsports... Good Job.

@@markjurczyk LOL lets face it though.. the competition has always only been between a few teams...Those with the most money.. win in F1 its become a joke

Bobby is a genuine, really nice guy. So easy to approach in conversation at almost any time. First had the opportunity to chat with him at the initial Denver Indy GP. Then again years later when Graham was in his first year of open wheel racing at an Indy-Car support race in Denver. The best crossing of our paths was at Watkins Glen, mid-2000's. I was downtown Friday afternoon before the Fall Vintage Festival weekend taking in the shops and decided to stop in for a beer at one of the hole in the wall bars on main street. Through the front window I spotted Bobby alone out on the sidewalk. So I went out and asked if he'd care to join my sister and myself for a beer. He said "sure, why not". My sister was absolutely star struck, we could hear the other patrons in the place full of whispers, "There's Bobby Rahal . . .there's Bobby Rahal". He shared with us his excitement for Graham progress as having more natural talent than he ever had at that age. He was the beaming proud father excited for his child. It was one of those chance encounters which remain in your permanent memory as a very special moment with a pretty special guy. Thank you Bobby for being the gentleman you are, the inspiration for not letting ones ego override their successes and sharing a beer with a life long rail-bird fan.

Bobby personifies class, eloquence, humility, but you know he's a bad ass too. That he knew Rockford himself...well that kicks butt as well.

I shook Mr Rahal's hand at the Long Beach Gran Prix in 1988. I was with Toyota as a participant for the Toyota Skills Contest. Part of that weekend was attending the race and working as pit crew for the drivers of the Toyota Pro-Celebrity race. My assignment was to pit for the great Walter Peyton. It was a fantastic time and met many people including Bobby Rahal, Al Unser Jr., Parnelli Jones,.... and may others...(too many to name here). I considered it an honer and a prize in itself to be among these great racing personalities. Thank you Toyota... 1988.

Thanks so much Bobby! I was lucky enough to see 4 500's back when it was balls out and electrifying! (Thanks Dad! ) I saw Rick Mears, Gordon Johncock, Arie Lyandycke(sic) and Bobby Rahal win theirs and it truly is "The greatest spectacle in motorsports racing!" I remember thinking as I stood up on the first lap of my first 500 and the cars were screaming past so fast that you could only tell what color they were and not much else, This must be what it was like. In ancient times to seeing gladiators fight at the colosseum! A wonderful time to be alive and Bobby brought it all back and then some. Thanks again Bobby and great job. Awesome collection too!

Been a HUGE Bobby Rahal fan since 1976, reading about him in National Speed Sport News driving a Lola T290 in SCCA B Sports. (He was a fellow Ohioan) Saw him win Pole Position at the Formula Atlantic race at the Long Beach Grand Prix. (almost cried when he broke a half shaft in the race. and laughed at the LA times Listing him in the results as Bobby Ray Hall) Ironically, Also a Huge fan of John Force. Now a HUGE fan of Graham and Courtney. (Have your baby and get back in that seat, Girl) SOOO many great memories of watching Bobby race and continuing with watching Graham race. Great to see HIS memories of his career.

After these videos, I am more of a Bobby Rahal fan then before!!! I often rooted for the other guys. But now! My one Bobby Rahal story.: I'm at Long Beach somewhere in the 90s. I'm taking pictures of his car during the Pit walk. I voice comes up behind me, "what do you think his chances today?", I respond "I don't know, I'm more of a little Al fan fan." Bobby responds "Well, I hope this guy wins!"
I have to say, ALWAYS A CLASS ACT.

WOW !!! This was SO good !!! I've just watched it twice, and paused plenty of times to check out the details, and there are so many details !!! What a rich life you're leading Bobby; thanks so much for sharing it with us !!! And to the production team, so well done .. Bravo !!! A couple of the interesting details: the Vasek Polak rear number plate surround on the RS (very cool!); the little orange 2002tii in the office just like its big brother downstairs; and what looks like perhaps a 906 (?) in I'm guessing a workshop off the main area! I'm sure you could manage a Part 3, if you'd like to .. and perhaps take some of the cars out on the track !!! As always, thanks so, so much everyone at the Petersen !!! Infinite 🌟 s !!! Take care everybody !!! 😄

No, it was added for motorcycle racing and auto trackdays in the 2000's for safety. I think the sports cars and indycars do not use the kink. So the track is still the same.

I have loved Porsches ever since May 26, 1963 and have owned eight. But I met your uncle, Ed, at Vidalia, GA in 1967 when he raced his D-Type for the last time. I saw the car advertised in Autoweek not long afterward for $12,000. I should have begged, borrowed or stolen to buy it. Some misguided people might love Bugatti but my one true love is the D-Type. I met Ed in Savannah in the late ‘80s and talked about the car. He told me the buyer turned around and sold it for $1,000,000. Ed was sick. But I bet that guy is sick when he sees how much they are fetching these days.
After meeting Ed for the second time I wrote a column about that last race for the Waycross Journal Herald. I doubt many people read it because it was published the day of the Challenger disaster.
