i believe this was the first and only episode of gilmore girls that they did a handheld camera scene. it really shows how much the showrunners wanted you to feel that entire gilmore clan was in a shaky and difficult place! i just absolutely love the final moments of this episode, it shows how much they can have fun and fight with each other at the same time.
Someone might’ve said it, but the cast had to run through their lines with someone to make sure they were speaking fast enough, as the show has like double the dialog than other shows bc the creators want them all to speak super quickly lol.
Now that you mentioned it, I do remember seeing an article titled "Why Gilmore Girls characters speak a mile a minute" or something like that. Thanks for telling me.
It just occurred to me that the creator of this show, Amy Sherman- Palladino also created , more recently The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and they also have quick and witty dialogue like GG
I’m glad this is a lot of peoples fav episode as well, bc it’s always been one of my favs. The mix of fighting and laughing in the dinner scene is just perfect lol
I loved that final dinner scene where all 4 players hashed out their differences, took breaks to eat and retell fun stories and then hash out more differences. A functional family communicates, tries to meet one another half way, and always keep lines of communication open
I'll never get tired of watching your reactions to Gilmore Girls, especially because it seems you truly enjoy this show as much as we all do! I'd love to see your reaction to Gilmore Girls's episode 4x22, even just for all the Kirk's moments.
Believe it or not, during that Friday night dinner fight, many of us were actually on Emily’s side or at least understood her pov 😂 this episode really recaps the past year they’ve had
@@notthemovie I never believed Rory was actually sorry for her behavior; she just says so. But lf she really were sorry, her attitude towards others (specially their grandparents who’ve always been extremely loving and generous with her and when she didnt like something, she just left them in a horrible and inmature way) After im watching it again now that im older… i can see how entitled and selfish Lorelai and Rory can be; i love them, of course. But Rory and Lorelai are not the kindest of persons…
@@frenzelventura They're extremely flawed and very entitled. This all comes from them finding a community that dotes on them and keeps that attitude active.
I saw someone recommend Dear Emily and Richard (3x13) and I wanted to jump on and say I totally agree with that recommendation!! And you mentioned Raincoats and Recipes as well, that’s also a great one.
I never realized how many references in those fights at the end of the video were made to various other episodes throughout the series. It's rare to see an attempt at the complexity of family arguments, and this one is pretty good. It could have been better. But being that it's such a rare niche to be taken seriously like this, I very much appreciate the end product of what must have been a tremendous effort.
I really enjoyed seeing rory’s leadership and ambition in this episode, it felt like a great redemption episode for her after she quit Yale in the beginning of the season, to bad they RUINED it in AYITL. Unlike most people I actually enjoy what they did with Rory seasons 4-7, but I cannot stand what they did to her in the revival
I was so hoping you would do this episode! I'm really glad you did. If you do another one, Dear Emily and Richard (3x13) is such a beautifully sad episode. I think it'll help to give some context to the relationships as well.
Ok. Context for the last fight between Emily and Lorelei. Those two had the same fight in the pilot episode, verbatim. As a longtime fan, that part of the scene made me laugh the hardest because after 6 years in the series (21 years in the context of the show), they are having the same fight.
The hats, you are correct. And it actually goes back to Roseanne. The creator of Gilmore Girl, Amy Sherman-Palladino was a writer on Rosanne and Rosanne Barr would have the staff wear numbered jerseys to identify them.
Raincoats and Recipes, my favorite episode! "Night terrors and Kirk running naked through the square!" "Will you just be still?!?" Love this Friday one too! Also love the one where Richard wants to punch Mitchum for what he did to Rory and discovers all that Lorelai said was true. Also love the letter the Lorelai wrote for Luke, and the episode where Rory turns Logan down and finally says no to him and stands up for herself, and loved the last episode❤ Kirk is hilarious in all the episodes, lol!
Your commentaries on this series are awesome to listen too! It is fascinating that you chose to watch out of order, and randomly.... I watched Gilmore Girls as it was originally airing on TV, one episode a week, and have re-watched it multiple times.... I will say season 6 is the choppiest, and probably the most frustrating of the series, but it still remained one of my favourite shows. And, I hate how this season ends... 'Friday Night's Alright for Fighting' is definitely one of Gilmore Girls' best episodes, in my opinion. And, it is in large part due to the last segment, with the fighting....I just love how those scenes were shot, written, edited, broken up.... You are right, definitely a chaotic episode, but so well done. Well, story line wise, I don't like what is going on between Luke and Lorelai, here....This situation, with Luke's daughter, is just one of the times that highlights how bad they BOTH are at communicating with each other. Actually, Gilmore Girls, as a whole showcases communication issues between other characters, and the different relationships as well.
I've always thought that the fight at the end of the episode was the funniest thing. But apparently having someone react and interject comments is even funnier.
I love ur intro/reason for making these videos bc i started watching gilmore girls as reruns on cable just like you described. Eventually i liked it so much i rented it from the library and watched them all in order but it really shows how streaming has changed how we watch shows and how that changes how shows are made.
Another episode I would recommend is Raincoats and Recipes (4x22). It has family drama, romantic drama and all town folks coming together so it’s another iconic episode!
I don't remember the purpose of why or if it was just this episode, but I remember back just before this aired The CW put the clip of that last whole scene on their website to watch like a week early. I remember watching it and being very like wtf did I just see.
Omg I love this episode!! So excited for this. I think you might like to watch 1x15 of Gilmore Girls, too, it might fill in some blanks for you in understanding certain characters and their dynamic. Ep 13 of season 7 is another brilliant and very emotional episode that I love, so highly recommend, too :) Oh, and episode 3 of season 5 if you like romantic comedies lol

I've watched the whole series through twice (as well as odd episodes when it was on tv) and your videos are helping to allay the urge to start watching for a third time. I love the way you condense an episode. Your commentary is very entertaining.
I feel like in order to understand the full brilliance of this episode you'd have to watch the whole season leading up to it, but obviously that's not the point of this video haha
Indeed, but I do have some context now. Logan's family rejected Rory, so she became a dropout and a criminal, she moves in with her grandparents, and their personal disputes began. Right?
@@notthemovie And when her grandparents realize she's having sex with her bf, they don't allow her to stay in the pool house, so she has to move into a room next to their bedroom in the main house. Then they invite a priest telling this 21-year old woman she's not to give up her most precious gift. So actually, in that regard only, I'm completely on Rorys side for just leaving without saying good bye.
I vote for your next Gilmore Girls watch to be "A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving" - the 9th episode of Season 3. It is on time for the season AND it has some really good Kirk moments

This and the flashbacks to Lorelei's childhood, I think
Certainly the only handheld moment ever done in that house setting. I remember noticing it with my family the first time I watched this episode 😅😊
Lauren Graham (Lorelai) has a pet peeve about filming with empty cups so they always had something in them even if it was just water
