- Tom Selleck won an Emmy for his portrayal of Thomas Magnum, a charming private detective who lives in Hawaii on the estate of an absentee millionaire. Though a bit of a rascal, Magnum investigates his cases with skill, deftly moving about an island that is luxurious, exotic, and sometimes dangerous. Successfully blending doses of action, mystery, irreverent comedy, and poignant drama, this series became one of the biggest hits in television history and afforded Selleck and his characterization iconic status.

Funny how CBS picked the bones of two classic franchises Hawaii Five-O and Magnum. Neither can hold a candle to the original. That abomination they call Magnum that’s on now, is a disgrace.
I Concur...never watched one second of this new Magnum... nothing will ever compare to the Original .. Nothing 💯
I don't watch it but the promos of the Magnum\Female Higgins hook up makes me sick to my stomach! Yuck!
Right on both counts.
I watch the new magnum and like it but I still prefer the original
Abomination is what it is indeed!
Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, and Hill Street Blues. Man, I loved Thursday nights.
There are actors that play a role and there are actors that ARE a role and Tom Selleck was and always will be Thomas Magnum. Just the perfect guy to embody that role. You also can't top Roger Moseley, John Hillerman and Larry Manetti either.
Selleck is ALSO the Commissioner of the NYC Police!
And Jesse Stone

Stone Cold 💯
Watching Blue Bloods, he's also amazing in that role. Part of a very small club of Tv actors who can create SEVERAL iconic characters.
It's been tough watching Tom get old. There wasn't a girl that didn't want to date him, or a guy that didn't want to be his pal.
He actually looks great for his age....just was on cbs sunday news, but he is 79 now and walks with a feeble elderly gait....hard to watch out heroes age....i am 59 and my brother in law is 69 and he is walking and looking elderly now...i guess i may be right behind him....puts in my mind u have to live life to the fullest more so when u can see ur self getting old....
I was 18 in 1987. Watched this show every week. Man where did the time go, Magnum is a classic show now.
I started seeing the original Magnum PI on reruns bunch of times back in maybe 2014/2015 and I greatly enjoyed it...and then I stopped watching it up until yesterday when I decided to rewatch it again on Freevee. Still enjoyable and really holds up good.
And yes, I wasn't even born yet until long after the OG Magnum went off the air and I'm 19 now haha. Guess I still definitely have a soft spot for old shows after all these years.
I was 9
* did you ever notice in the beginning of the last episode it shows a plaque, like a rip for magnum? 🤔 didn't know if it was an end date for the show running?
I was twenty and I agree with you, like, wow, time does fly!
I lived in Waikiki in 1987.....I was at a stop light at around 7PM at night in Waikiki and noticed that a white Porsche had pulled up net to me.....I looked to my left and noticed Tom looking right at me....Tom then pulled into the parking lot of Nicks Fish Market that was a joint he was known to eat at....one of my few contacts so to speak with a famous person....
I used to like Magnum having a touch of premonitions about things. It made him even the more interesting.
I’m grateful my mom had a crush on Tom Sellek, because we never missed an episode. She even had his Salem cigarette ad on the fridge. I live in Puna on the Big Island now and love it. I sent my mom a commemorative Robin-1 Hawaii license plate and an old National Geographic from EBay that had the Salem ad in it. Thanks mom
Iol…that’s awesome. That’s the same reason I watched magnum
This video made me think of all the people under the age of 30 that cannot imagine being able to wander around an airport without going trough TSA screening.
With a gun! lol
That was what stood out to me as well.
When you could go right to the gate to see people off and greet them.
First season of Magnum Pi was a great intro to knowing the cast, as well the main protagonist, Thomas Sullivan Magnum. The plot and writing was engaging, as well the drama and the quirkinesses, making it a great detective-action-drama show of the 80’s. This is the REAL MAGNUM Pi! 😎
You forgot the funky jazz rendition of the theme song!
You forgot to thank ChatGPT for writing your post for you.
I have forgotten how much I love this show... I grew up watching Magnum P. I.
Same here.
"I know what you're thinking" "Hi guys!' "Private Investigator" The 80's have come back to life in this channel.
And your right…
Were you ever thinking what he thought you were thinking though?
@@curiousnomadic rarely...:)
@@MTobin1000 Me neither. I thought I wasn't following along close enough. It had me perplexed.
Two guys carrying pistols in an airport... definitely the 80's 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And airport security isn’t all over them as soon as they hear the shots. 😵💫
Or on a plane like in Die Hard
Rick just shows up with a full auto Uzi running down the street and let's off a controlled burst and no one freaks out. TV in the 80s!
I watched this show as a child and I certainly didn't remember that scene!
I went to boot in Sep of '87, missed the last season. Found it on line 4 or 5 years ago. FINALLY got to watch the last season...
"......I!"
I was 18-19 when Magnum began. Seeing Tom Selleck so young here really bring to the fore how long ago that was. The first few seasons were a lot of fun. It got kind of silly later on with all the dream sequences and so forth but those early seasons were great.
This was my favorite TV show when I was a kid and it was on. It is still my favorite show ever.
MAGNUM!Tom Selleck!Die beste Serie in den 80er.Ich war 18 Jahre. Und liebe Magnum noch heute FOREVER!Tolle Zeiten!
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Seeing bits of the show is like visiting old friends. Those were simpler times.
3:08-3:12 iconic reload
Rack the slide + insert the magazine = hammer back on an empty chamber. It looks cool, but all he will hear is “click.” But it does make the iconic shot from the opening credits. Cheers.
@@parklloyd6690 That's so he can rack the slide again! That looks much more cooler!
@@parklloyd6690 really had to have been intentional, the set armourer alone would have pointed out the inconsistency
Such a well-written pilot episode. Tons of questions not answered
I love these clips! Miss this, so much--great Friday nights!
My favorite line in that clip was Higgins looking at Rick and saying "Orville?" 😂
Rick running down the street with a Mac10..Noone notices until he shoots the guy " where'd ya get that gun?"
It a Uzi 9mm
It was a wild scene. Humphrey Bogart wastes a dude during happy hour with a full auto Uzi.
It is clearly a Mac 10.
*_I really miss the 80's... No TSA at the airports..._*
My absolute favorite show ....Thursday nite❤
Absolutely LOVE Higgins.
With the number of times TSM has been shot in the shoulder, he wouldn't have passed his Medical for Re-enlistment in the Navy...
That’s true. I never thought of that.
Or John Wayne
He did'nt re-enlist he was offered another commision. He was an officer.
I was just commenting on the same thing. Back then all good guys would only get shot in the shoulder.🤣🤣🤣
And how many important parts are the shoulder? Bones, veins, arteries to the arm. It's almost the same as the pelvic girdle. You are dead.
Still love me some Magnum! Awesome cast, great stories, and fun in Hawaii!
There are people that get matched with a role and it was just PERFECT -- Selleck w/ Magnum, Don Johnson as Sonny Crocket, and Ted Danson as Mayday Malone -- No one else could have been those characters. ... BTW I owned that exact yellow MGB in this scene... That might have been CGI / special effects... Because I don't think an MGB has ever driven that far without breaking down. MG's are neat cars and they sure do look good behind the tow truck. BTW Larry Manetti's book was pretty cool Aloha Magnum.
Back when Magnum was great!
Magnum, PI & Hawaii Five-O are great classics. I could not sit through one episode of either reboots. I am surprised both lasted.
Grest series! Saw them all in the original run in the 80s. A great time to be a youngster in my 20s!
Magnum: "DAMMITT!! THE SAME FRICKEN SHOULDER AGAIN."
The most famous reload of all time.
My dad always chuckled at that. "You'd crumple that mag like tinfoil if you slam it that hard."
@@responsiblejerk2328 TM racking the slide with no magazine inserted is not a "reload"
Higgins should have got the ring by the end, he was essentially part of the core team
What was the point of putting the gun under the briefcase?
The image quality in these is great.
We got dobermans and vacationed in Hawaii when I was little because of this show. As a 10.yr old I would look for magnum during our visits....❤❤🎉
Could you imagine if Tom Selleck played Han Solo and Harrison Ford played Magnum? Hypothetical.
Tom would have done well but Harrson is a Terrible actor and would have ruined it
There is something to think about.
If Higgins is Robin Masters, and i believe he is...then he gave Magnum a job working security for the estate. Magnum was a mess after the War, working as a PI on the estate gave him time to heal from his trauma.
The studios still have no idea that these shows were successful because of the writing, subject, and location but more importantly, the specific actors and you’ll never recreate that.
Damn, Magnum PI was a great show. So let me get this straight, you look like Tom Selleck, you get to work in Hawaii for 8 years and oh by the way, we’ll pay you big bucks for your “trouble”. It was good to be Tom.
Magnum’s narrative voice sounds like Norm MacDonald! 😂
These were all such good stories !
Archer: "Robert Loggia, doing what he does best ... getting shot."
Tom Selleck is my only Thomas Sullivan Magnum forever and ever
Watched every episode, loved this show.
Frank Lopez had his trouble days with Magnum and Tony Montana!
Intramontabile grande Tom sellek.
“Where’d you get that gun…”
Looks into barrel puzzled.
We here in Columbia SC r great fans of both shows an boths shows of 5-0 too
Ya don't muck around with Magnum, he'll get ya..Bam
J aimais bien Magnum à l époque , sacrée charme 🫢voilà un beau torse bien viril
Higgins was all class!
Only the original Higgnes would throat chop a gun thug & then apologize 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Two observations:
1. I can't believe Thomas fit in that MG.
2. Rick shot the windows out of a Cutlass Supreme! I hope the damage was limited to the glass!
Magnum is the man !
Rick totally iced that guy 😂
THANK YOU LOVE
My god! It was Robert Loggia all along!
L as in Look, it’s Robert Loggia! O as in "Oh my, it’s Robert Loggia! G as is Great Acott, it’s Robert Loggia! …
🌸 if only I could solve my problems while having a nice place to live and everything I needed... 😑
“What you do, re up?” LMAO
Anybody notice he’s not wearing his SEAL trident? Looks like he’s rocking a SWO badge.
Love that mac 10 action. 👍
Nice shootin’, Tex. 😎
It’s possible to like the original show and like the reboot one. I had to let the reboot grow on me but it’s fun in its own way. I’m not particularly keen on Jay Hernandez but I don’t hate him. Love the new TC and Rick. Often watch the show just for them. We all need buddies like them.
Making Higgins a woman was cheeky. She’s great.
I would love them to say that Juliet was the favorite niece of her uncle Jonathan Quayle. Hearing his exploits inspired her to the path of adventure and service to the Crown. She then took over his role as major domo when Robin asked JQ who he recommended to replace him.
Which leads me to Robin Masters in the reboot. It would break the internet if they could get Tom Selleck to play Robin Masters in the reboot. He’s a rugged adventurer who could write adventure novels. Please world, make this happen.
This teleplay should have been a motion picture. We could have seen a more thought-provoking drama with what 'we' now know of the CIA's and Corsican mafia's activities before and after the USA's 'official' involvement in Southeast Asia [Laos, Cambodia, Bangkok, and 'Nam]. Still, it's one of my favorite episodes of the original series.
Nice
l love it. .no holes in the garments. . .
That’s a man right there 💪🏻
0:48 Great trick.
What episode Is this
The "reboot" or "remake" or whatever they called it, is a joke
💜
🔥
I loved this show, it was really excellent.just sayin ;)
Magnum kills Feech Lamanna.
Did he get a big flat screen?
@@Daniel-Weaver for fucking parking?
all there magnum good luck on the win
Rick would have been arrested and jailed for illegal gun charges, possible murder, firing a gun in public and probably a half dozen other charges.
Seems Frank Lopez really didn't fly straight after all. ; )
At least he didn’t get pushed out of a helicopter
@@pilotff 🤣🤣
Casually running down the street with an UZI, as one does...
Mac 10, but yes...
@@clintleffingwell8129 Don't try to confuse me with the facts.
It's all ok Natural shows r fabulous th news onesr still cool 😎 too
Magnum got shot more times than 2pac
Downtown Honolulu looks pretty rough.
The good old days when you could bring guns into an airport
Then the "Patriot Act" came along and ruined everything.
HERE DUM DUM CC YOUR TV SCENE WITH TOM SELLECK
Ah the days when you could carry Uzi on the street and loaded guns at airports. The 1980's were great and this was a fantastic show and later we got Miami Vice. Oh and unlike today we had a great President as well back then.
Ah, an airport bathroom that remains empty for minutes on end.😅
Tom Selleck was built like a side of beef back in the day.
Thank god the ferrari didnt get hit
I had that thought too!
Two guys carrying pistols in an airport with little security and being able to carry them IN PLANES? Ohhhhh the 80s
Anyone know the Season number and Episode #? Thanks!
🥊
Rick don't play.
Mr Higgins
You owe me one. I say.
Is that a double stack 1911?
Tom Selleck is very proficient with firearms. However, he should have loaded the 7 round magazine before racking the slide. Otherwise, there would be no bullet in the chamber of his 1911. Humm.
Making sure the chamber is clear prior to loading.
and they know that it isnt me....but they can use it to steal
He has wings on his uniform, not a trident
STOP IT HALZ
Rick's like, 'say hello..' - 3∅ in the clip
