The music was such a big part of the whole vibe.
The new one is cheesy. I didn't like the underlying love story. The old one is better.

The original is much better than the robot and shows how Hollywood has lost its way there too lazy too do some creative writing and come up with new shows .and these actors don’t have the depth are the range too play a complexed character magnum showed when pushed he was deadly .long live the original.✌🏿

There’s only one magnum and that is Tom Selleck, the new spinoff show is a total embarrassment I lived on the island for many of these shootings of the original magnum ,, Tom Selleck gave the show a certain type of air that just fit him and all the people that were in the TV show, the new guy should take a bath and shave and go home, I was a stunt man on two episodes ,, And one of the requirements was properly shaved and the mustache properly groomed so I had a glance he would not know the difference, and that was an honor plus I was paid very well, tell the guy pretending to be magnum to go home, and take a bath
My housemate built sets for the new one. Even he thought it sux.

I lived in Waikiki back in the 80s when they had the pedi cabs ....miss those days but not the pedi cabs.....a lot of young hot shots drove them who did not want to get real jobs and they made good tips....they backed up traffic big time and some of them were scammers....i only took 1 as i remember when a gf i had back then wanted to take one to her apartment....the city did away with them by 1990 due to all the head aches the pedi cabs caused...

Wonder why they used the "bionics" sounds?
When I produced the episode most of my budget went to the helicopter fuel and maintenance. So I just used the library of sound effects to fill in for otherwise costly stunts.

I like the new show for what it is but I remember the original well and if measured, the original far out-weighs the new in acting ability, depth of character, story lines and just plain creative skill. Theirs was on a different level from the new. The new is light, fluffy and fun. Something to enjoy and pass the time but tbh the characters, especially (and unfortunately Magnum's character) is thin. I hate saying it because I do like the reboot, just not for the same depth. And the over loud background music is annoying. The attention spans of today's audience is shorter and needs it I guess but it detracts from the show to me. And let's be real, Tom Selleck is a superior actor with a much larger range than Jay Hernadez. As much as I enjoy Hernandez, he can't pull off the gravitas of character like Selleck. Maybe given time, but for now his version of Magnum is fluff. Fun, but fluffy.
