Tom Selleck won an Emmy for his portrayal of Thomas Magnum, a charming private detective who lives in Hawaii on the estate of an absentee millionaire. Though a bit of a rascal, Magnum investigates his cases with skill, deftly moving about an island that is luxurious, exotic, and sometimes dangerous. Successfully blending doses of action, mystery, irreverent comedy, and poignant drama, this series became one of the biggest hits in television history and afforded Selleck and his characterization iconic status.
Magnum darting off in the Ferrari smiling at the camera is one of the most iconic moments in television history!

the funny thing is it's not the best show of the 80's. Star Trek was, but that's like comparing an acura NSX to an Audi turbo or Mercedes turbodiesel it's so late in the 80's it's basically a different time. Magnum PI fit in right between Roots and Star Trek and then the Simpsons

I loved Magnum as a kid. Mags was always kind of a big kid pulling one over on Higgins

The two Dobermans, Zeus and Apollo, always cracked me up!

There was an episode around season 6 or so where something had happened to Higgins (went missing or something) and both dogs were so distraught, they sought out Magnum for comfort. It was sweet.
Magnum breaking the 4th wall is the best. But he was always talking to us through out the series.

Higgins and Magnum were like brothers - they fought one another, but had a deep respect for each other.
I loved Magnum P.I. so very much as a kid in the 80's. This show helped define a decade, and showed a generation (Generation-X) how to be cool. This was my favorite 80's TV show. Sadly I never got the chance to see this part until now. Thank you.

Selleck used to Live up the Street from Me when we were living in Honolulu. He lived at Black Point, our house was down the street on Aukai. Used to drive his Black CJ7 down our street all the time....Memories..

Yes you can I watch a daily on roku, I watch a couple of episodes every night. I think also on prime or paramount
Loved the show when I was a teenager ! I remember that I always wanted one of those team rings. Finally got one in 2005 made of 10k yellow gold ! Wear it religiously 😊

I loved this show. It was a nice follow up on Hawai'i 50 giving us a look at Hawai'i and it's charm.
My daughter deals with ADD and can sometimes overwhelm herself and have a break down / lock up . Tears it can be ugly. I always told her “dont look at the dogs. Focus only on whats in front of you” Dads will use anything to help their girls. Today at 19 years old i had to dust this one off and tell her again and wouldnt you know I find this clip in my feed! Shared it with her. Now she knows Dad isnt original but the phrase still works for her.

This show is so good. Tam Selleck was just amazing. I'm in the 7th season now and the show gets better with time. The opening of the 6th season is great, and the 7th season is basically a movie in LA. It's amazing the way they keep building up the show.

Its a Targa top and is stored behind the seats . Seems he didnt need it lol. But still a great show , one of the best of the eighties .

Watched this every week in the 80's. Damn I'm 53 today where did the time go. My wife was born and raised on Oahu, not too far from where this show was filmed ( Kailua). Sadly the house was demolished .
Most of the outside scenes at "Robin's Nest" were Filmed in Waimanolo. I watched the "Foiled Again" episode being filmed there and got to meet Tom Selleck and John Hillerman, it was really a great day

Certain Actors in person you wouldn't look twice at in person.. However my mother met Tom Selleck in Malibu back in 1990 and she said in person he was stop in your tracks beautiful. She said in person he's far FAR more attractive than television shows him.. He's 6'4 with an excellent body and of course that iconic mustache and Face. ❤

used to watch this a lot not so much in the early 80's since I was too young but as got older mid and later 80's into the 90's on reruns became my favorite show. then i learned they were making a reboot or at one point before movie, i still think they should have flipped roles with magnum and higgins, i.e. the older magnum which now somewhat resembles higgins more becomes the caretaker of estate and there is a new pi living there that could have made a great story lines seems to me

They used panaflex film, which I understand is movie quality film. Some shows used cheaper stuff, and it shows. Somebody made the decision not to cheap out. Goodson them!

There was one episode in season 7 I think that almost deliberately played like a Miami Vice episode and quite effective, too. I think the makers of Magnum were simply trying out new things.
