Their buildings are shiny, but what about basic food supply and fresh water? Human rights? Are these buildings made to last more than a decade, or just built for show?

Poor cement quality and engineering shortcuts. Horrible urban planning...actually there is NO plan. Building inspectors take bribes so everything passes for the right amount of money.

The architecture is great but social issues have yet to evolve. Many of these building have not solved social issues, political, religious and above all these building wear made using laborer's from other country badly paid and living in bad condition. The beaches are deserted, all those building and hardly any one around.
How do u know they are empty? Have u been there?
Islamic people and african , has the highest megacities , but I disagree , they should be aware and optically speaking wise and conscious .
