Turns out these drives are write protected, so you shouldn’t plan on using them for other purposes. Still, I think it’s neat to have.
Heh, there is no way I would use modern day Windows operating system USB flash drives as shortcuts for transferring files to other computers anyway!
I actually really like that. At least you know it's immutable. Granted, you can't update it with later releases, but neither could you with a pressed DVD, so...

thats kinda a shame, as they release updated ISO of Win10 I think they would do the same for 11 then you could update the install on these flash drives to have a newer ISO guess they said nope on that
I remember when they started shipping 10 on USBs, they were written with the intention that you wouldn't overwrite them, if you did write to them you could only put it under regular use for a couple months before the flash chips went dead. You could read from them pretty much indefinitely though.
Honestly never knew that Windows was sold on USB drives nowadays. I haven't bought a physical full version since Win 7.
I bought Windows 10 on CD for the PC I built in 2019. It was sold on USB and CD
I mean it makes sense. if you're gonna do a physical version of an operating system it's not gonna be on a cd.

A couple months ago I was looking for a physical copy and couldn't find any for retail. I was able to get one in DVD in the ugly OEM envelope style which was better than nothing. I just wanted a physical license sticker.

I got windows 10 on DVD-ROM form an OEM veider; That's my be how you will have to get an Windows 11 DVD-ROM. The number 1 resoen to got Windows 10 on DVD-ROM has to do with the fact I trust optical discs more then USB Drives. That along with how good the M-Disk BD-R disks are makes me say with optical discs.

I just upgraded to Windows 11. All the changes I could notice are:
-task bar entries cannot be ungrouped anymore (so they removed a very useful feature for no apparent reason)
-There are now 2 start menus instead of one, only one of which can be opened with the Windows key (I'm sure many users asked for this MAJOR improvement)

I'm a level 3 Technical Analyst working for a Fortune 100 company supporting 45,000 workstations both Windows 10 and Windows 11. I have actually compared system performance, and on thousands of devices.
Windows 11 is not even close to smoother. It kills SSD speeds by 45% when bitlocker is enabled(which is a must on enterprise devices) unless you go through a massive pain in the ass process that entails entirely reimaging the device and enabling hardware encryption, utilizes TWICE the RAM resources Win 10 does at idle(because it has so much telemetry that is uninstallable), has less functional context menus, less functional task bar, less functional start menu, less functional file explorer, and the list can go on.
There is also a DVD/BD version of the Windows 11 physical copy, usually only found in offline stores.

Since the Windows 10/11 installation image is already bigger than 4.7 GiB (the maxium capability of DVD), I'm wondering if it will ask you to change the disc or filp to the other side when installing?

I used to collect physical Windows versions, but with 10 and 11 both being free upgrades, I could never justify spending money on them just to have the box. Will probably wait until years down the road when they're cheaper.

Since I have plenty of flash drives; if I bought this, I would keep the installer on it in case something goes wrong later on. I miss being able to reuse a disk, though. In the past, only floppies could do that. Couldn't with CDs. Unless it was a RW. I used to collect AOL floppies and reformat them to use for downloading small games and doom / duke3d levels in my school computer lab to take home to my pc. lol
I honestly think most of back the day who were on a budget did that, I know I did....
Dang... we went from a Few MBs on Floppys to 1TB on an SD card that's smaller than a coin.
That's pretty cool. I downloaded stuff at school on floppy, too. I've got a huge stack of AOL CDs as well, been thinking about making something arty with them.

@@ThisOLmaan Yeah, though I meant my comment only about the downloading stuff at school. I don't even use Windows at all. My only problem with installing my OS was figuring out how to handle UEFI, which I ultimately disabled because I don't need its features and would like to mitigate the chances of a remote attack disabling the whole computer. Not that I couldn't leave it enabled, I just didn't want to.
I find the price of this pretty interesting. Microsoft's pricing for Windows has DECREASED over the years. For example, Windows XP retailed for $99 for the upgrade, and $199 for the full version. Windows XP Professional was $199 for an upgrade and $299 for a full version.
Makes sense, considering the fact that almost every alternative to Windows is free and they are getting more and more popular over the years even though they likely won't overtake Windows anytime soon

I do. Always have. I know I could save money on keys or even just live with a watermark but I just like having the os box. Still have my xp box from my first build. Even have a couple old Mac os boxes.
@grawbad6397 Most people just pirate the OS, precracked. There's also ways to remove the watermark, through the reg editor method. No need to buy or use keys. No need to live with the watermark.

Despite how I feel about windows 11, I’m glad they’re keeping the tradition of physical copies. However I miss their cool shiny discs. It’s not the same with USB
Disks are slower, larger, easier to break, and every PC has a USB drive, and a lot of PC's don't have disk drives. There's too many downsides for Mike to use disks these days.

I know these are popular for those building their own computers. I used to work at Micro Center in the computer repair dept and often when someone built their computer they would buy the boxed copy of Windows 10 with the usb,. So we would install it and put in the license key for them. So there is some demand as you can't easily just buy a key from microsoft from a retail store if you are buying computer parts.
there's no need to buy windows at all. there are multiple less than legal methods to get it for free.

There is no need to pirate it, the official installer does the job just fine.
As for dark mode, it is just a registry tweak.

That's really neat. I wish the flash drive looked a bit better. Windows Vista and 7 era packaging was an eye candy. CDs can't look good but flash drives sure can.

as for why it's a 32gb chip: cause on many listings 32gb flash currently gives you the cheapest price when ordered in bulk like 100k or so - buying a 16gb chip would had just cost more in the end
as for why both home and pro: cause it depends on the product key which features gets enabled - the install is the same for both - that's a feature from at least win 10 where you install pretty much a full blown pro version and by switching the key you switch what features are enabled - this goes back as far as vista when the wim format was first used
Yeah, heck in Windows 11 you don't even pick the edition in the install menu, it just installs home unless you activate with a Pro key.
No it doesn't. If your computer doesn't have a license in the BIOS you get a selection. Home only gets auto selected if you have a Home license on your motherboard.@@shanez1215

Reason why Windows 11 USBs have home and pro is because they are the same product. You are installing Windows 11 (You need Pro license to activate pro or home features, home license to activate just Home features). Not sure if you can use Pro license to install pro into 1 and home to 1 computer, but it seemes like that. During installation you are opted to choose which version features are installed, but product key activates them.

This is really cool! I've honestly never bought a standalone operating system personally, I have always just stuck with whatever has come with the PC/laptop, and never upgraded.
I know that might really confuse and even annoy some people but once I use and get accustom to an operating system I see no reason to change it! Currently running Windows 21H2 on an Alienware R12 with no plans to upgrade to Windows 11.
Both my sister and partner have updated to Windows 11 and honestly I find it..strange(?) to use, 10 just seems so much more familiar to me.
All of that said, the fact you can buy Windows 11 as a physical now is really cool. I'd like to see a shelf with the boxes for DOS, through Windows 9X, XP and 7 up to 11. That'd look sweet. 😊
If you build your own PC, it's not possible to just use the OS it comes with because it doesn't come with one. It's also handy to have some Windows install drives in case something goes horribly wrong with your PC that makes you need a reinstall (but I wouldn't buy one, just use the tool for making your own)
Windows ISOs usually ship with most editions (except Enterprise) if no product key is specified so it makes sense why the USB drive reports containing both Home and Pro
It can also get annoying when you want to install Windows Pro but the OEM system has a home key embedded in the BIOS/UEFI so that’s the key the windows installer is picking up unless you modify the ei.cfg file beforehand
This has caused us so much trouble in the Office - preparing a Laptop for Autopilot is all nice and dandy, but if the device comes with home, it will then need to download a new windows version to upgrade to Enterprise - if it's on Pro, it just seemingly "flips a switch" and is converted to the subscription Enterprise Version. And if it was a pre-installed Enterprise Version, it tries to reach a non-existant KMS Server that doesn't exist, because we use MBP subscriptions per user that activate after sign in and the Enterprise Version doesn't like that out of the Box.
@@Marenthyu You can upgrade a home edition to pro using a default key. Then “flip the switch” to enterprise with your license. No reinstalls required.

@@NazmusLabs Correct, but that isn't even the point of my situation - the laptops come pre-installed with Pro and their Key baked in to the UEFI. But still, it has bloatware pre-installed, so we wipe it with a fresh install, only installing the drivers we need and then proceeding with Autopilot.
It only runs into issues if you, during this install step, install an Enterprise Edition, which may try to contact a KMS Server. It depends on the exact image and how it was generated.
Home is effectively completely out of the question here as it is not pre-installed and initially installing it would just be bothersome as it would then upgrade from the burnt-in key and THEN switch to Enterprise from the Subscription. It's an easily-skipped step by just installing Pro instead.

Considering Windows 11 is just Windows 10 with a new oobe, start menu, theme and a hack making the window manager make all windows have rounded corners, them not bothering to replace the logo doesn't make that much of a difference.

windows 95 is over 20 years old and an unopened version sells for $130 bucks on ebay. Less than what it originally cost.

The reason why the partition isn't the full size is that if they change suppliers of the actual stick/electronics inside the casing, and the spare sector area is slightly different (which affects available space to the user), the disk image they write to the sticks still fits no matter the variation in available space from different 32GB sticks

I wonder if maybe the partition table is just borked… You could try to remove it using DiskPart (built in Windows tool). Look up how to use the “clean” command (be very careful you select the USB drive!) and try to reformat the drive using the Windows partitioning utility.

I used a 3rd part software to remove the Partition-table on the drive (as Windows, and DiskPart would not let me do so)
and now it's permanently bricked.

As a physical collector of video games, I am highly interested in physical collecting for operating systems. Very cool.
Problem with this is that flash drives aren't very good for "Cold Storage" and need to be powered from time to time, otherwise they'll die. So I wouldn't leave it sealed forever lol

I would imagine it's just easier and cheaper for Microsoft to include both versions of the OS on the drive. I'm surprised Microsoft just doesn't do one installer for all versions, and the installer chooses which version to install automatically, depending on the key used.
That's exactly what they do.
They still make DVDs as well, but only in OEM packaging (since Windows 10).

That's cool. To have a physical copy, an actual box to put somewhere if you're into that kind of thing. The price though. You can get legit activation keys for Windows 11 for much cheaper, so really you're just buying it for the novelty.

I didn’t even know they still sale physical copies. But a s someone who loves physical software/media it’s nice to know! Although nowadays I don’t purchase an operating system physicals anymore, only some software. Like just one year ago I purchased a physical copy of a music production software.
Buying a physical copy of Windows 11 could compete with buying a license for WinRAR. Nobody ever did.
Every Windows Vista,7,10,11... iso contains all editions (except Enterprise). All you need to do is to change the "ei.cfg" file (or create one) witch is a text file in the "sources" folder, and remove the [EditionID] parameter.
We want the Enterprise version of Windows; no more Home or Pro versions.

I really doubt that this is the genuine physical edition of Windows 11. The brochure has noticeable translation errors in Russian (possibly with errors in other languages as well). Additionally, there are dents in the printed material. Furthermore, the Windows 10 logo is used, which is very concerning as it has been left unchanged. It is more likely that this is a copy of the physical edition of Windows 10, simply adapted for the new system. Also, there are numerous designs of the Windows 11 box version available online, and it is unknown which one is truly authentic or if they are all fake.
I got one of these "fake" ones right on launch day and I don't understand. Your right that the listing has since been removed but the product was identical to what you've shown here and the license was genuine.

@@arnox4554 I agree, especially since non-digital releases are perfect for avoiding data loss in possible hard drive crashes. But like Michael MJD said in this video, DVD-ROM releases of Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro could be possibilities. We will just have to see what happens next!
@@CEO100able I highly doubt they'll ship DVD-ROM releases since I think they stopped that in later versions of boxed Windows 10. In fairness though, I don't know if I see the point of that since even super old PCs have had the capability to boot off a USB drive.
I haven't paid for a release of Windows since Windows 7. I got a pre-release of Windows 8 as a beta tester. That got ungraded for free to the full version. Then I got a free Windows 8.1 the same way. Then everyone got an upgrade to Windows 10 for free. And the same happened to Windows 11. I love how solid Windows is now. During the 95, 98, XP days, I would to a full re-install every twelve month or so. I've never had to do it since 8.1. it rarely crashes or blue screen, and general maintenance keeps it fighting fit.
Honestly, Microsoft is actually creating new theme over win 7 and making it as a new release everytime . Settings panel is a good example.

@@123berno I'd sort of agree with you there. And yes, I've been running 11 since it's pre-release days, and I'm still two builds ahead of the general public due to Microsoft testing. But the thing is, if you like Windows, what else are you going to use? Windows 10 is still supported, but not for much longer. So it's either Windows, buy a Mac, or learn to use Linux. I dual boot Ubuntu, but rarely use it nowadays. I even have Android apps on my Windows 11 machine now
@@DemonArshan It's easy to do. Especially now. I'm two builds ahead of the general public due to still being a tester. And Windows 11 is solid now. I use Ccleaner and Malwarebyte twice a month and that's about it. Microsoft's Defender is pretty good as antivirus software, so I don't need anything else.

Re-using old logos on new products is something Microsoft does quite a lot, for some reason. On the inside of the Xbox One S (or at least ones that were manufactured in its first year, mine was made in Aug 2016), you can see the old Microsoft logo.
Sometimes companies do that for trademark reasons. It's easier to enforce a trademark if you keep using it.
The DVD version is available to buy currently.
I just checked Jimm's (Finland's biggest computer component seller), they have OEM-versions of Win 11 available as DVD (Home & Pro)
Dunno, how legit that is considering they have never been officially released on DVD. Current Official window(s) come with usb stick, as modern machines don't have dvd burner anymore.

But if they're truly legit then has to be a limited run targetted towards those on older machines which defeats the purpose considering Windows 11's lackluster compatibility with older machines, and could've just contained a usb stick as many machines don't come with dvd burner and usb is lot faster even on older machines then spinning disc.

You can't reformat the USBs Microsoft sneds out. At least you can't with the Windows 10 one. It's read-only which is dumb considering all I wanted to do was put an updated Windows 10 ISO on it because it shipped with 1909 on my copy.

I STILL wonder why DVDs/DVD drives died on PC (storage limits aside, excluding dual layer etc.) and why many are even saying USB drives are on the way out/outdated? I get 'digital' this and that...but I mean is there another physical means of transferring data that I am unaware of?
I guess it's the spread of high speed internet access that pretty much killed optical disks. They simply became obsolete
I'm pretty sure optical dries dissapeared on laptops to save space and the last time I checked prebuilt desktops often still have them. When they don't I bet it's a cost saving measure, or on "gaming" systems it must be for "stylistic" reasons.
The pack design is about the same as the one for Office 360. Thankfully though this is not a "medialess" release like the Office one I've seen in person, as that (basically a piece of cardboard and minimal paperwork) is NOT a physical copy in my book.
Ironically you CAN download a full offline “ISO” file of office 365 and make your own physical USB installation media. Not sure why Microsoft doesn’t just include that.

Yeah Obviously you could format the usb, but why would you do that? I just find formatting this usb stick bizarre. Imagine spending $200 on an operating system and then delete it , so you can get more space on the flash that's worth $10
But you pay 200 for the key/license. Not the installer. You can get the installer for free.
Assuming it's made like the Windows 10 USB media, you can't reformat it anyway. It's write protected. As for why you would want to reformat it, there is a simple reason: to update the install files to a newer version than what comes on it originally. I have one of the Windows 10 drives, but it has a much older version on it (1909 I think). I found out about it being write protected when I tried to update it to 21H1 last year.
@@DeadNoob451 I know it's for the license, but it's still bizarre to delete this, especially since, whoever bothers to purchase this in physical form, probably wants to have that product on the medium, deleting it defeats the purpose. Most people purchase this and then wait days because their internet sucks and it takes too long to download this.. or they don't have an extra pc to download and then install on one without OS, soo no win on usb means they are stuck.
3:23 Win11 is basically Win10 with some "new"/"redesigned" elements. It doesn't even really have any features that make it superior to Win10...
It's Windows 10 but with security required (Password protected account required, TPM required, encryption required). It would be difficult to force all Windows 10 users into this higher security version of the OS, so they just made a different version.
That's an exaggeration. Windows 11 does have SOME improvements.
It makes windows easier to control when snapped side-by-side, adds additional snap layouts, remembers window positions on external monitors, and shows Linux filesystems in File Explorer, among other things.
Windows 11 is the WEF edition of windows 10 where you will no longer own the computer you built, and the megacorps and elitest goons in Davos will be happy.

But those improvements are minor. And you can pretty easily peel out any Windows version you like if you know where to dig. (for example: you can close windows by double-clicking their application icon in the top left)

One thing I don't like about these later versions of Windows is that you have to have a Microsoft account to install it, you can't just create a local account like you can with previous versions of Windows. So I had to create a dummy account with Microsoft under a fake name just so I can install Windows 10 and 11.
Only Windows 11 Home "requires one". It can easily be bypassed with command prompt though. Personally, I'd just skip to installing Pro or Enterprise and permanently activating it for free.

There must be a law where if you buy physical copy of software, It should be workable without Internet connection. Why would someone buy physical copy if he/she has working Internet? Many countries still have kbps speeds/super expensive internet.
I get it, physical OS releases don't really make much sense in the digital age, but still, this is very minimal compared to the awesome boxes from the WinVista/Win7 times.

You'll find it easier to create and toggle between different virtual desktops in Windows 11 than in Windows 10. Windows 11 lets you set up virtual desktops in a way that's similar to on a Mac. It allows you to toggle between multiple desktops at once for personal, work, school or gaming.

Lots of computers (especially those that are actually capable of running Windows 11) don't even come with DVD drives anymore.
Seems neat not having to dedicate a USB for it. Even if you don't install windows still you need one USB drive for repair shenanigans. This are useful for when internet doesn't work on the pc to fix and for some recovery. I have to use one for updating a w7 that didn't work well anymore.

@@bland9876 well no you can use software like driver pack and 3dp dot net and 3dp chip, but w7 and XP have now certificate issues and also the service pack wasn't available anymore on the site, you need it to upgrade to W10 without loosing files. Upgrading fixed lot of issues and let drivers get automatically. But I did thought a pen-drive since couldn't connect because of the issues.
@@AlejandroRodolfoMendez I'm not sure what you are talking about but in device manager if you right click on the missing drivers it will ask you to search for the drivers but it can't do that unless you have internet. Sense it is the internet driver that is missing you are screwed. Why the internet driver is often the one missing is beyond me but it's the most common driver I have to find when reinstalling windows.
I do believe there is a DVD version of Windows 11. I imagine Microsoft makes both for enterprise purposes.

One thing interesting that I found with Windows 11 is that I installed it on my older Core 2 Quad desktop PC that I put together with old parts and it actually has a 3 1/2" Floppy disk drive and interestingly enough, I can actually use 3.5" Floppy disks in Windows 11 just like how I would have used them back in Windows 95 even though with such a low capacity, I would think that most people haven't used floppy disks in over 20 years. I remember that CD-RW disks began to replace floppy disks like in 2000 or 2001.

Floppy support on 11 is more interesting than on 10 because AFAIK _no_ PC meeting the Windows 11 official system requirements has a legacy floppy controller. Although I could be mistaken on that. What I want to know is whether or not serial mice will still work out of the box.
@@eDoc2020 I haven't tried that. I do remember that people stopped using floppy disks and moved on to using other storage devices with higher capacity by 2000 or 2001. My older desktop that I have Windows 11 does actually have a floppy disk controller on the motherboard, it's actually a Core 2 Quad CPU
@@sburton015 I believe the late Core 2 era is when desktops starting to drop floppy controllers. Floppy controllers weren't uncommon on first gen i7 systems but I don't think I've seen newer systems with floppy ports.
@@eDoc2020 I also do still have one older laptop with a floppy drive which is a Toshiba Satellite 330CDS from 1998. Of course there would be no way that it would run Windows 11. I still have it on Windows 98 second edition which I remember was released around this same month in 1999. However, if you bypass the TPM and CPU check, Windows 11 would run fine on any PC that's a Core 2 Duo from 2007 or later. I think desktops kept floppy drives until about 2009 or 2010.

you can also buy (legally afaik) win10 keys for like $10 or less, and upgrade those to 11 (I would stay at 10 for now)
We run 4 computers at home with Windows 10. All of them say nope, you can't run Windows 11.

People said the same thing about Windows 10. I've been using Win 11 since March and haven't experienced any major bugs. A few smaller ones, but no major ones.

Now Windows 11 64 bit is on a USB Flash Drive not on DVD most of the new Pc's will no longer have a Optical Drive DVD Burner Drive
