    1. If you are seated and someone you are meeting or are introduced to at the table, stand up, don't shake their hands sitting down.
    2. Ties into the above, wait till that person is seated before you take your seat.
    3. If someone is leaving before you (not going to the bathroom or some short term like that) stand when they do.
Well that's just what we learned in the Caribbean.

I was just debating this on a self defense channel the yesterday about what to do in rough neighborhoods. My points were that most people just want to go about their day. If you have to be in a rough area, become a "Gray Man" (blend in as much as possible, you're not likely to get targeted if you're not noticed), be polite (general respect as he said in the video), and be compliant (yet be ready and able to defend yourself). Someone else argued how they wouldn't take any rudeness. Look, I have had to travel to places like Downtown LA, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Oakland, etc for work. If I was rude and upsetting people, I was going to have a rough time getting out.
Some refused thinking it was best to be the tough guy all the time, loud and abrasive. I would rather be the polite guy in my warm bed than the tough guy in my cold grave.

Whenever I'm out with someone who does not speak dutch, I'm going to use english when talking to waiters, bartenders, that kind of people. Only when it becomes neccessary I'll switch to dutch.

I have a rule for opening doors. this was very big in the middle east when i went there. Its called the Yameen Rule (Right rules). The person on the right hand side goes through a door first; if you're part of a group, the right most person goes first and so on. If you want to show courtesy, come the left side of the door and open it for your colleagues and come in after everyone else has.
This prevents those awkward "no you first" moments. if you got caught on the right side, accept the courtesy and go in first no complaints, all thanks.

Such an appropriate lesson and time to be shown. This needs to be shared by everyone who watches it to everyone... ESPECIALLY our kids, educators and politicians... EVERYONE. Now I am going to give away my age in that. I actually still have the book I was given as a young child. That addresses... teaches... manners and etiquette. Additionally when I joined the Corps, yes believe it or not the Marine Corps. Taught these same lessons as part of its leadership training. Some how so much of this has been lost in our society.

These values was drilled into us our lives from the beginning. I do most of these things. I need to work on things. I tend to poke the bear, escalate situations. Great content! So much of this is based on basic mindfulness and being aware of the people & situations we are in. Being present is huge! I see people displaying bad manners chiefly because they are so engaged with their phones. For example people on the phone letting a door slam in someone’s face simply because they are so wrapped up in their device that they don’t notice someone right behind them. Being present is so key to having proper manners.

Amazing people have to be told to wash their hands and cover their mouth while coughing too, and stay 6 feet apart. I was taught that at age 3 by my grandmothers . Amazing kids mooch off the parents until 26 or more, its rude too mooch, no respect to parents, but now you have raised a new generation of Narcisists who are easily offended when called out. Had 6 girls who thought I was rude for charging them for everything they ordered and ate, they didnt want to pay for it all , because they couldnt eat it all, but I was rude for pressing theft of service on them and having them arrested. They were very polite up until then.

Many years ago I checked out every book on manners for gentlemen from the library and read the small bit of info that was available online at the time. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. A lot of them are out dated and some modern people would find offensive, but if you pull that behavior out around the right type of people, it’s like a key to a door. Suddenly some old lady who wouldn’t give you the time of day, thinks of you as her grandson. Haha

I just recently watched the kings man movies and they're so cool and fun at the same time.

Antonio I think they're speaking about me in this video. My wife always comments how I do all of these for everyone. I will always ask someone that is carrying a lot of things if they would mind if I help or if they would like some help. People always look at me funny, but I just tell them that not everyone needs help but it feels good to have someone offer it even when they don't need it.

A bit late to this party. Good manners go a long way with me. You also talk about respect. Same thing and the two go hand in hand. Also lets not forget kindness, compassion, graciousness, dignity and integrity.
If you have all these things, then you are a gentleman.

Fighting over these exact point with my wife over our son. Raised southern, married Oregon. So different, even just simple things like hat on inside and simple words

Antonio, thank you for preaching this! Manners and chivalry are dying and I don’t agree with it!
I have a comment: While sitting in front of your bookcase, it is an intelligent spot! You often keep the camera from your midriff-up, but in front of your library in a leather chair, back the camera up - you could have a great looking scene of power and presence. Show your whole person in your domain.
Keep doing what you’re doing! Love it!

A great book that I highly recommend for every man. George Washingtons Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior. Some may be a bit outdated but it's a great book that every Man should own.

The exciting thing about eye contact is that in some cultures like mine, keeping eye contact was generally seen as a challenge, as if you disagree or disprove. I will say that it's a little lenient nowadays, but they would still see it as disrespectful for the older generation.

I was brought up to be well mannered. I've taught my son the same way. A well mannered man is sooo attractive (swoon).
